Last weeks thread: Pregnant or Trying thread for Mar 27th - Apr 2nd

Pregnant Challenge of the Week:

When a real sugar craving hits and you just HAVE to have it... the challenge for the next two weeks is if you CAN'T find a lc substitute for it, you ONLY allow yourself to buy a ONE serving helping of it. One candy bar, one drink, one small ice cream and not a quart or gallon.

Do not give yourself an excuse to keep eating your craving for days... give yourself a small helping and then move on.

And try to eat some protein while you are at it!

Ok let me know what you all think of the new format.

I hope to be back on by next weekend, but just incase I made this a two week thread.

I have 21 hours to go..... I am actually going to attempt to stay all lowcarb at the hospital since they offer a personal chef service. I am going to log what I do as I have a website that I am putting up (blog like).

Wish me luck!

Ugh, I guess later ended up being tomorrow. I came down with a nasty headache and ended up on the couch the rest of the morning. I finally had to give in to some Tylenol. Ok, let's see if I can catch up.

I'm trying a different approach- going to M/E it for awhile and really count and measure my food intake. But in 4 weeks I've lost 3lbs? (I am up 2lbs from siggy- no explination......) I feel like I still look pregnant! My face is thin, my legs are smaller, but my mid section is unrecognizable! I'm very frustrated. I know some of you have been through this post-pregnancy issue. Just wanted to know if you experienced the same or if you have any tips???????
Actually, considering I didn't even try to lose weight after giving birth I think I did pretty good getting within a pound and a half of my pre-pregnancy weight. I owe it all to nursing and eating whole foods and rarely any junk. Compare that to pre-pregnancy I was excercising 4-5 times a week religiously low-carbing and struggling to lose a half a pound a month unless I was on the strict 72' version of Atkins, which was hard to stick to. However, I'm convinced now it was my birth control pills that were the culprit there. If it makes you feel better I never got rid of my poochy tummy, but I didn't really expect to. As skinny as my mother is she still has hers too....so I figure I was doomed.

No, actually I don't! If Grant continues I plan to nurse them both. This is called "tandem nursing". However, based on the research I've done on the topic it is very possible we won't get that far. If I can't keep up on my fluids my milk can dry up. I'm doing amazingly well despite my nausea, but I can tell my supply has already dipped some. Even if my milk doesn't dry up it will begin to change to colostrum sometime in the third trimester and some toddlers don't like the taste and wean themselves. So, I guess we'll see what happens!

It's definately hormonal. Hurts just like the last time I was pregnant. Oddly enough, once he is latched on good, the pain goes away while he is nursing. So as long as the nausea is at bay I welcome him to nurse!

Oh no! I pray things work out the way you want!

Ames, isn't the nausea medication crazy expensive? I think I read it was over three hundred dollars for a weeks supply.
Tell me about it! 30 bucks a pill if the insurance wouldn't cover it! No wonder they dig in their feet trying to renew the Rx.

I almost never have to go to the bathroom and when I do my urine is quite dark. I haven't had a BM for 2 days whereas previously I was like clockwork. I usually don't go to the doctor until 12 weeks or so, but do you think this is serious enough to go now? Is is possible to get dehydrated even though I rarely vomit? Even though I would desperately like to it seems that my body just won't let anything come up.
Oh no! I hope you've gotten to a doctor! My throwing up was so bad the last time that I got on the meds before I got to that point. Once I start throwing up I can't stop. I throw up and throw up until that bitter bile stuff comes up and then dry heave more! Obviously, I can't function and go to work like that so that is why they got me on the meds right away. If you are getting dehydrated, then you need to go to the hospital to reverse it and definately try to get on some meds. There is no reason to suffer that bad.

I'm definately not big on drugs as I had a natural child birth and I hate even taking tylenol, but when you are nauseas and/or throwing up so bad that your baby is in jeapordy or you can't function, go for the drugs! I guess having constipation as a side effect is pretty mild to some side effects from other drugs out there.

WOE: The Dr. Weston A. Price Diet, NO processed food!
Thank you metroames for the reply. I did get myself rehydrated and feel better. Im still struggling every day to find something I can stomach but my husband is being an angel and helping me out so much. I only work 12 hours per week and some friends are helping out with some housework like dishes and laundry so even though its tortous right now I do get a lot of time to just rest so Im going to try to stick it out without medication. If its like normal Ive only got about 4 more weeks to go.

Luna, good luck to you! And good decision about the Personal Chef. Just think, in Taiwan the hospitals never give you food unless you specifically request it, your family always brings it to you. And post partum nutrition is EXTREMELY important to Chinese women. The maternity floor has a kitchen area where relatives (usually moms, sisters, grandmas and aunts) can cook you food right there. They have a special name for the month after you give birth in Chinese and the women dont leave the house during that month. They just rest and eat super nutritional food. In the past the women werent even allowed to shower during that month but theyve kind of let that part slide into antiquity, although they will usually still wait a few days. Anyway, stick to your guns and know there is a whole culture of Chinese women who are backing you up!

I just wanted to ask all of you what you use to alleviate acid indigestion/heartburn. I am going on 35 weeks and recently this has started giving me a problem. I have been popping Tums, but wanted to know what all of you find effective. The acid indigestion has actually been keeping me up at night.

I have had a terrible time with reflux and indigestion. It was causing me to vomit uncontrollably. I finally have given up with tums and I take Ranitidine, by prescription, one tablet in the morning and two at night. Zantac is OTC and has the same active ingredient, but OTC drugs aren't covered by my medical plan. I'd talk to my doctor about the ranitidine.

How is it going Luna?

Cenicienta...I've had rotten heartburn since month four! My midwives suggested Maalox. I felt really weird taking any kind of medication...but they swear that it's fine...even on a daily basis. It works for me very well.

yeah! are hoping for one or the other?

as for my dr visit yesterday, everything looked/sounded good. I did have a small amount of protein in my urine. He says he'll keep an eye on that, but my bp was super (96/68), very minimal swelling (a little in my fingers and ankles) and my reflexes were still fine.

in 2 weeks, i get to go do the sugar test. I am so dreading this because, if my tummy gets empty, it makes me feel queasy (not that it's empty very often! ). So 12 hour fasting and then to fill it up w/ that sugary syrup? ugh! I'm afraid I'll ralph waiting for the blood draw (dr says it'll be a 2 hour wait, lab lady says it's usually an hour wait, so she's gonna double check which one he wants for sure). Thats a long time to wait!

Kinda hoping (ok......really really hoping) for a boy. BUT we will take whatever is healthy. The heartbeat is roughly 155, which would indicate a girl, but my gut says BOY.

This will sound like a really silly question, but I hear tons of mixed reviews. Can you tan while pregnant? Being pregnant doesn't make me feel ultra attractive, however, being tan always makes me feel much better about myself and I would love to be able to at least tan while I'm fat!
