Help me! I'm puffing up like a blowfish!

No kidding -- TOM is on the way, and I can literally FEEL myself retaining water! What's up with that??? Am I just more aware because I'm on the scale every day, or could this be worse than usual?

Anybody want to share any non-drug ideas?

I'm been drinking a lot today, and I can tell that output isn't matching input.

Right now, I am the human sponge...

I use dandelion root tea to help w/water retention (esp. when TOM is approaching). It's actually called PMS tea...but the main herb is dandelion root. 3 cups of this in one day and you will be good to go. It really, really works.

lemon squeezed in hot water first thing in the morning works as a diuretic, celery is also a diuretic, drink plenty of water throughout the day.

I often have a few days like this during the month. I am really careful not to eat any processed foods because if I eat a lot of salt it's a lot worse and I feel horrible! I usually take some midol but not sure you want to do that! Sorry I don't have any great advice...hope you feel better soon

It's sounding like I'm in the minority, but I just don't sweat this part of TOM and never have. I know it's coming, I know I'm going to be a little different for a little bit of time, but it's temporary.

I avoid the scale then, too. Why bother with it? If you are like me, you are going to try and do some magic mental math to come up with what the scale would say if it wasn't TOM, so I just wait until it's over

When you say 'non-drug', are you open to herbal remedies? I found one at Whole Foods in the supplements section, seems to work.

I agree with Jill. Stay off the scale.

Drink lots of water.

Eat asparagus - another natural diuretic.

If the swelling bothers you, you can offset it by lowering carbs (one "whoosh" defeats another?)

I'm more inclined to side with Jill-O. It is what it is, not permanent, and will be gone in a few days.

Thanks. It's not so much the scale I'm worried about -- I know water will go away. It's more that I feel so darn uncomfortable.

And truthfully, I'm a wreck mentally. PMS is just WAY worse for me this month, and I have NO idea why but I am SO on-edge and just generally feel not fit to be around other people. Top that with a binge today. I feel terrible in every way it is possible to feel terrible!

its funny but i can totally tell when i am bloated now as opposed to when i wasnt lowcarbing. at that time i was constantly bloated from the carbs anyway.
usually drinking a lot of water and waiting it out helps.
