Ladies only please.......sensitive issue....

Ladies, do you find that you have more or less yeast infections (you know the type down below with low carb. I am peri-menapausal and are having issues with yeast that I did not have , except when on the pill, many, many, years ago.
Now first, I have not been a good low carber, so I am not blaming this on low carb....might blame it on the HUGH amount of sugar I have been eating alot of lately...maybe.
I was just wondering about other ladies experience with this and what works for them to eliminate or add to their diets or lifestyle to help AVOID these little problems.
Also, ladies of close to menapause.... did you start having these issues and what has helped you.

SEE GUYS......... NOT OF INTEREST TO YOU... DONT SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.

Vicki

I don't get those kind of yeast infections, but I do get a yeast related rash under my arms. It starts out looking like a spider bite and it is itchy! Then it spreads.

I get it when I eat certain foods - salami or pepperoni and black tea are some main culprits! I have to limit them as much as possible.

If you do a search on candida diet, you can find lists of foods that you should avoid. I would bet there is a food on there that you are eating a lot of that is causing this yeast overgrowth.

Only time I get them is when I'm taking antibiotics. I've been on Atkins for 3 years and have only had 2 infections-both times I had bronchitis and had to get put on antibiotics.

You say you're just on low carb life...but Dr Atkins does go into yeast and stuff in the book if you happen to have it on hand...

If you get them frequently..I would consult your doc because it may be that you're not curing the one you have, before you think another is cropping up, but it may be the same one because the OTC medicine (if that's what you're using) may not be working.

Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of this.

I found the first time around low-carbing I was more suciptible to them (yeast infections) the more fermented foods I ate - i.e. cheeses, vinegar, etc. At one time I added in yogurt to help ward them off, but to be honest, it could have been my BCP too...

G'Day, I was having yeast/thrush problems for some time, until my doc said to wash with yoghurt Well after that, I stopped using soap altogether, and started using organic base shampoo, which is very mild, for hair, body and hand wash. I buy bulk, and add essential oils like lavendar and rosemary, and have NOT had a problem since. (at least 5 years)
So, I feel that soap is a bit of a problem for some of us.

I am 28 and I have battled with yeast infections since I was about 17. The Dr said it just has something to do with my PH levels "down there" being thrown out of wack real easily. To be honest with you, that is the main reason I stay low carb! The weight loss is great, but even if I'm not losing I'm happy- because their are no yeast infections! If I slip up and cheat with something super sweet- you bet I'll be regreting it the next day!!
Another thing that has helped is I don't use regular soap to wash. I use the Summers Eve Feminine wash, it is hypo-allergenic.
I hope you feel better soon!
OH- Have you been tested for Diabetes? That can also cause an overgrowth of yeast.

You probably need to do a candida cleanse to rid your body of the yeast..Lisa
