Question for the ladies
Ok since starting LC has your TOM been messed up or not on track at all?
I have PCOS and since starting taking my meds about a year ago i have been right on time every month. I am about 3 to 4 days late right now??? Anyone else think this is normal or should i go to walmart and get a preg test? Thanks Yall, Ash |

Mine has been a little screwy too. I have mine about every 20 days instead of 28. I would wait on the preg test and see if you have it in the next couple days.

When I was on Atkins I got my period for three weeks straight. It went away for a few days and came back for another week. On the three months I was on Atkins my period was never normal. I'm now on the BFL plan and my period is normal. I have a friend who went through the same thing. She had her period for several weeks and after a few days it started all over again.

TOM has been nice and regular since I've been LC'ing, so who knows? Nean is right though--buying your EPT will definitely bring it on within hours!

When women first starts lowcarbing, excess hormones are released from inside the fat cells as they shrink. This is the reason that a lot of women experience messed up cycles for a while. It will pass...but take an EPT JUST to make sure. Lots of women that have found themselves in the past to be not-so-easy concievers, find out quite differently once they start low carbing also.

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal..and trust me, it will sort itself out over time...unless you are pregnant..and well, that usually resolves itself in about 40 weeks
Take heart. I too, am (actually WAS) a PCOS sufferer...low carbing and losing the weight and keeping my insulin under control has allowed me to cease all PCOS meds and for quite some time, everything was picture perfect normal...then early menopause hit (it runs early in the women in my family so I wasn't surprised) but so far it's quite OK compared to the horror stories I've haerd other women tell. To be honest, I credit this to a healthier way of life also. My poor mother started menopause with a vengeance at 38...she will turn 70 this coming first of March and until about 4 month ago she was still having to go through in excess of 40 hot flashes a day, not sleeping, anxiety..you know, the usual. It was hard to watch her suffer so..and she had tried every rememdy out there, natural AND prescription. All they seemed to do for her was give her one terrifying breast lump after another. (This was very scarey for her as every women in her family has succumbed to breast cancer prior to the age of 56 so you can image the absolute terror she endured with every mammogram and subsequent lumpectomy) Four months ago, my mother began to low carb having seen how much happier and healthier I was and lo and behold, her life is now profoundly different...almost all her menopausal symptoms are markedly lessened if not completely gone. It's a break she deserves after 32 years of hormonal hell. While she's never had a serious weight problem, as her age increased a few pounds crept in around her middle...I'm so proud of her...she's two inches taller than me but now weighs less than I do! She's off for a 7 week vacation to Australia in a couple of weeks...she asked me if Kangaroo was low carb..my reply? "BLECH!"Low carb is amazing!!!!! |

Hey Ashlee - I'm PCOS too and yes, mine is sometimes more late and definitely lighter doing Atkins. I asked my RE about it and he said it's normal. I take Metformin - is that what you take?

I have PCOS......I never get periods.......maybe once a year i'll be surprised.....even with Lcing i still dont get em.... But if you feel pregnancy symptoms, or just want to clear your head, go ahead and get one. I have taken a million preg. tests in my life, cause i was never really sure.....until the time i started to get sick, and really was preg., I didnt find out until i was already 3months preg.

Heatha, I'm really surprised LCing hasn't straightened you out...it did for me, I've been like clock work for 5 years now, after 10 years of nearly no cycles. I had the same thing happen to me, too- didn't know I was pregnant, and I was (had a negative test) and it was when I started feeling sick..... |

yeah, i'm just really strange.....sometime's i noticed that stress will bring on a period. And when i do FF, i might get a period, which is weird too. But regular lc won't help me. My hormone's are all messed up. I dunno, I just know that low carb helps me lose weight cause of the insulin resistance.

Yea, my cycles have been "off" since low carbing-- no real consistency with them from month to month. |

Congrats Ashlee!!! I am soooo happy for you..... I was told that i couldnt have kids, and I have my little miracle baby!!! Just be sure to let your obgyn know you have PCOS. YAY!!!!! I'm sooo happy!!!
I didnt do low carb while pregnant....and ate everything under the sun and gained 80 pounds total....so be careful. I would look into eating like maitenence or do South Beach, just to be on the safe side. Someone else may have bettter understanding of this... Heather |
