Black cohosh for periomenopause?

Anyone taken this and has it helped? I am very wary of doing the synthetic hormone replacement. I am trying this first. Anyone had any luck with it?

I have not tried this, but look into proegestone cream. I use it (I use Emerita) with evening primrose oil and think that it is a miracle. My mom is post-menopausal and also uses it and swears by it as well. It has changed my life.

I just get the evening primrose oil from Wal-Mart. I order the Emerita online. The last time I posted where I found it, I got a warning from admin. about posting the site. I will say that Netrition does not carry that specific brand. If you do a search online, you will be able to find it. If you want, you can send me a PM with your email address, and I will send it to you privately.

Yes I have been taking it foe a few years , after a few weeks the hot flashes and the mood swings stopped . You can get it at the wal-mart for about 6 bucks.

I recommend herbal medication for many things , you can educate yourself by look them up on the web or go to your local health food store but be prepared to spend some time .

Suggest if you in any way suspect you may have a slow thyroid to NOT use cohosh OR evening primrose oil. Both are very goitrogenic, and slow the thyroid. Black CURRANT OIL will do the same with no high phytoestrogens.

The OTC progesterone cream is 'natural' but made from Wild Yam and soy (people with slow metabolisms and thyroids want to stay away from those!!). The BIO IDENTICAL progesterone cream is made from prometrium (the real deal).

I take bio identical HRT (natural is from plants and may have the same goitrogens and other additives that we are trying to avoid) that is Rx'd from my endocrinologist. Soy and other goitrogens are 'compounded out of' the resulting product.

Do you mean that black currant oil will do the same as epo or as black cohosh? Or both?

Thanks

No, black currant oil is OK...it doesn't have the same phytoestrogens in it. The phytoestrogens in EPO and black cohosh bind thyroid hormone (your natural, as well as incoming replacement).

I tried black cohosh and it seemed to help at first but a few weeks into it nothing. I take compounded progesterone and testosterone cream and estadiol in a gel and I feel great. I sleep like a baby too.

My cousin swears by wild yam root, which has drastically cut down on her hot flashes. She uses the cream.
