PCOS anyone?

Hey everyone... I am a very-newbie! (but I have been lurking for a while) and decided to just jump right on in!

I wondered if anyone here had PCOS? I was diagnosed about 6 years ago, and havent really sought much treatment. I did when I was a bit younger (I'm almost 25 now...) but the BC pills made me crazy, the premarin, the metformin...etc. I was young and irresponsible trying to remember to take meds... not good!

Anyways, I have several books on PCOS and a lot of them refer to Low Carbing as helping with the weight loss in PCOS patients. (since it's HARD and really S..L...OOOO.W... with PCOS), plus the disease boils down to insulin resistance kinda....

What are your findings?

I feel like I need to do this... but everyother day I fall off the bandwagon... argghhh.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you...C.

Hi, C.!! Welcome. I say welcome... I'm not pregnant or trying to conceive, but I lurk on this thread anyway, just to torture myself (I'd love to have more babies, but my husband thinks 5 is enough!). I am, however, a fellow PCOSer. I have had great results losing weight and regulating my cycles (resulting in conception) with Atkins. I cannot sing it's praises enough. PM me if you have specific questions I can answer.

I went to your webpage. You look so beautiful in your wedding picture! Are you and your husband trying to get pregnant now, or are you thinking about the future?

Good luck with whatever your goals are right now!

I needed to lose at least 70 pounds. I lost the first 40 in probably 3 months, then I lost 15 more over the next 3 months, as I wasn't trying very hard. I maintained my loss of about 55 pounds for several months, then began gaining at Christmas. After a few months, I got pregnant with my last baby, and I still haven't taken it off yet (she's 15 months old). However, I DO NOT blame Atkins. I blame myself. I just haven't tried hard enough. But it DOES work, and very well, especially for us PCOSers!!

pcos

I was dx with PCOS at 13, and am 25 now..Last year I went from 240 to 196 pounds via low carbing and exercise. I regulated my cycles with Homeopathic medicine...and now I'm seven months pregnant! This was a total suprise for me as seeing I wasn't TTC at the time and we SURE I would need fertility meds to get pregnant..but NOPE! I'm very excited about this pregnancy, but just to let you know that once you start losing weight...be careful..because you never know

I believe I have PCOS (self diagnosed). I have almost every single symptom. I would normally get my period a couple times a year, if that. When I start eating LC, I get my period in the first week and it gets regular quick! So, I can't say enough good things about LCing and PCOS, they go hand in hand, IMO!

I go to Soul Cysters occasionally, used to go there a lot more when I was first diagnosed.

I was diagnosed 5/01, I remember the day when the dr told me 'here, read this pamphlet, its really no big deal.' I had to educate myself. Low-carbing keeps me from feeling so tired and keeps my periods regular.

Hubby and I said a while ago, we would have a baby when it happened and didnt want to plan it, so we arent doing anything to prevent pregnancy. I tried BCP's for a while with little weight gain, but any weight gain was too much for me. I tried Metformin twice, the first time, it was ok, then the second time it just made me sick.

This is so tough, I have so much too lose and for a while I felt like every day I didnt see a change was another day for me to blame this on the PCOS and before long I would end up with some type of unclean food in my hand.

I am trying to keep back on track now though.

Are any of you on Metformin? I'm starting on Monday and want to start back on Atkins per RE's recommendation, but I'm wondering if I should worry about the induction phase and the Met. I posted on another thread so if you saw it sorry for the duplication.....

Thanks,
Amber

Ok, I went back to hardcore induction trying to knock a few poounds down for a competition this weekend and I must say I am utterly disappointed. My diet has been 100% CLEAN. I am eating well, tracking everything on fit day, lost three pounds last week and nothing over the weekend when I really thought I would lose. This just blows. I am really starting to feel like the weight loss is just never going to happen for me. I'll weigh 205 for the rest of my life
