Progesterone Cream????? Who has used it and what brand?
I know there is ALOT of talk about some types not working and some people swear by other brands, so, looking for those who have used Progresterone cream (the kind you buy without a prescription) and was wondering if they seen any difference with it and if so what brand it was.
Thanks for any info. Vicki |

A close friend uses it and I don't know the name. She buys it at the health food store and I think that it is made from yams. She swears by it. I tried it and kept forgetting to put it on so I just stopped as I didn't notice any difference with or without it.

Hi Sharon-
I started using Progesterone cream a few months ago for PCOS and have had wonderful results (my chronic migraines went away, sweet tooth under control, plus I now have a TOM). I use approx 1/4 tsp twice a day. I'm currently using ZAND and have also used Emerita. I purchased both brands at Whole Foods. Suzanne |

I use the Emerita brand and LOVE it!!! I finally have a TOM and my PMS is alot less hassle. I have PCOS too and that is why I use it as well. And my headaches/migraines are alot less too.

I've been on birth control pills for 30 years with no side effects. A few months ago, I had the brilliant idea to go off of them because my weight loss has been stalled for so long. I thought it might help. It didn't, but it threw me into full-blown menopause! I didn't have a period for the 4-5 months I was off of it and I had TERRIBLE night sweats and hot flashes, something I'd not been having before.
I tried Dr. Helen Pensanti's progesterone cream but didn't notice any improvement. Then I tried a program I found on the net called Women-to-Women. They send you progesterone cream, supplements (a good vitamin/mineral program), and advocate a low-carb diet. Nothing.....no relief! In desperation, I finally just stopped the cream and went back on the pill. I feel 100% better even though my periods started again. I guess they're just masking my menopause symptoms. Maybe I'll try it again in six months. It was quite an experience, LOL! Even with my experience, though, I'm sure that some people are helped enormously by progesterone cream, and I was really impressed with the Women-to-Women site. Check it out at http://www.women-to-women.com.

Someone sent me this over the weekend:
Progesterone Creams Reconsidered By Krispin Sullivan Currently many women in the US are using topical progesterone creams, often called wild yam cream, or others such as Progonol, Progest and the like. These have been heavily promoted by Dr. John Lee and other alternative healthcare practitioners. The general use of progesterone creams is alleged to be a safer alternative than estrogen therapy to prevent bone loss. This claim is based on anecdotal evidence from Dr. Lee. However, a recent clinical study showed no difference in bone mass between those using progesterone cream or a placebo. The cream did, however, reduce hot flashes. (Obstetrics and Gynecology August 1999, Vol 94, No 2, Pages 225-8) In working with laboratories using saliva testing, we have found levels of progesterone in excess of many thousands of units above normal. The idea that this is natural and that there are no side-effects from use of these creams is incorrect. Some of the symptoms of progesterone overdose include headache, weight gain, fatigue, water retention and depression. One clinician described the symptoms of progesterone overdose to be similar to those of pregnancy. Levels of progesterone begin to rise to abnormally high values after just 15 days of application of the creams. Symptoms begin gradually, often going unrecognized for months. When the cream is stopped it may take as long as three to six months for progesterone levels to return to normal. During this time symptoms may become worse before returning to the pre-cream baseline.

Boy, I'm getting afraid to use ANY kind of medications, "natural" or otherwise. Thankfully, I don't need anything. My health has always been excellent. I'm counting on a low-carb diet to keep me healthy for the rest of my life.
