Low carb while breastfeeding?

Hello all!

I had been lowcarbing up until I got pregnant. I was told by my doc to stop then, so I did and of course, I binged. Now, I need to lose the baby weight as well as a few extra. Does anyone know if this is safe? I am sure I would have to start with phase one and skip the induction period of atkins.

Thanks,
Carrie

Don't do low carb while breast feeding - but do do only healthy carbs.

The carbs are supplying the energy you need because you are feeding two still.

Once your new one is weaned, then gradually shift back to low-carb.

Why wouldn't LC be healthy for a nursing or pregnant woman? LC is healthy for everyone! I lost 80 lbs in a year while doing LC (yes, I was in ketosis for 6 months because I was on Induction) and I breastfed my child exclusively during that time. He's a perfectly normal and healthy 2 1/2 yr old. I got pregnant again, couldn't LC as well as I wanted because of extreme nausea and gained a bunch of weight but I'm now exclusively breastfeeding my 5 week old and doing Induction again (I've lost 7 lbs so far) and she is doing very, very well and so am I because I've got energy again Eskimos eat mostly protein and they are doing well too!
If you want to join an e-group where there is support for women who are TTC, pregnant or nursing while eating LC... go to Yahoogroups and search for "Pregnant Atkids" where there are very knowlegeable women there to help.

I have to agree completely. I believe I would still do maintence level while breastfeeding because it takes more nutrients when doing that. I don't think I would want to take the chance that my child isn't getting what it needs. You can eat healthy carbs and not bad ones.
