Question about baby rash...
Ethan ran a fever Sunday and Monday. the highest reading I got was 101. Gave him motrin. He is 7 months. So..then tuesday, woke up just great, but tuesday when i got home from work, he was broke out in a rash chest, shoulders, belly, back all up and down..bottoms of his feet.
Wednesday, he woke up his face all broke out. Today, pretty much everywhere...legs, arms, face... It gets worse in the heat, but it fades and worsens constantly. He has it whether he is cool or warm, (not heat rash)...i am at a loss. I have been looking on babycenter, and webmd...and all the illnesses listed there talk about a rash with blisters and raised bumps. His is smooth, you can barely feel them, just see them. I dont think it is allergies, he hasnt really eaten anything new, and had the fever. HElp! any ideas?? ![]() |

Cassidy just got over roseola. That's what it sounds like to me.
Put a glass on the rash and if it "blanches" (turns white) that's probably what it is. If it is roseola, the worst part (fever) is over and your baby should get better. Cassidy had to go to the hospital because she developed sores on her throat and wouldnt' eat/drink anything. Roseola is just baby measles, no biggie. let me know what happens! |

That is what I was thinking...but the description I found online didnt match his rash. So just press a glass to his skin? like the bottom of a glass? and if it is white under then that is probably it huh?
Thanks!!! |

I just used the side of a clear glass. You can see it easier then.
Yep, if it doesn't blanch it *might* hand, food and mouth disease. This is what I was told by my doctor after I had been in the hospital for days with Cassidy. As long as he's eating/drinking he's good! |

The 'glass trick' is very useful however I just read an article in one of England's papers on this and the rash was caused by meningitus (sp?) infection in the fluid around the brain.. but they said, if the rash stays even while looking at it through the glass (when you're pushing) that you need to take your child IMMEDIATELY to the hospital! The articles showed babies losing their limbs over it and this is serious stuff.
Anyway, your post is oevr a week old.. I hope your son is doing great now! I just wanted to post this in case others came to look they'd know.

How old is he? I would at least put a call into the peditrician. It could be 5ths disease or it could be a simple heat rash. I wouldn't mess around with rashes that are not explainable. A diaper rash or a rash under the arms is a normal rash...all over could be more. Hope it is something simple.

I was also going to say take them to the doc.
Hand and Foot and Fifth disease look like that. There is also a rash that is actually a type of strep virus that is rather serious. Call the doc. |
