This is off topic, but have you tried Diva cup, the keeper or mooncup

This is the first TOM I have used a moon cup and it is great.

I tend to be enviro friendly so this appealed to me.
After I had my last babe a few of my mama friends told me about these and they seemed so gross, but eventually I thought I would give it a try.

I chose the mooncup because it was silicone and flexible.

It has been so easy to use.

Just an FYI if anyone is wondering about them. You can google and come up with the web pages for these.
They are a nifty and environmentally friendly way to deal with your flow and not add more garbage to the landfill.

I used MSN to search for moon cup and got this.

LOL!! http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...t_adv_XSGB1343

I never knew these existed. Not sure if I'd like it or not. I had problems using the nuvaring for BC as it kept coming out.

LOL that is so funny

Well, I use mama pads and forgot them in my pad pot for a few days once...It was horrible. So this was something I thought to try. I have had 7 children and there has not been a time it felt like it was coming out except when I filled it up during AF.

I jsut wanted to share my experience with anyone who was thinking of trying one. So far it has been easy to deal with.

Thanks. Are you reasons for using this convenience or environment or both? If I may ask..

I researched the "moon cup" and found it strikingly similar to the menstrual cup I use called "instead." "Instead" is disposable so I throw it away after each use. Honestly I would be afraid of infection or bacteria with a re-usable one, but I'm open to it's environmental factors.

I think any type of "cup" is the way to go. I have never been able to use tampons and the instead cup has enabled me to swim, have sex and wear thongs during my period. I love them!

Ok, curious minds want to know and this might be a little TMI.....but I tried one of these things in high school, but it was sooo messy just putting the dang thing in and even worse when I went to take it out. Maybe I was using it wrong, but I followed the instructions and still had a mess.

I wonder the same thing about tampons....when I used to wear them I'd still have to wear a pantyliner to catch the few drops that would come out...and yes...I would change the tampon every time I would go to the bathroom. I gave up.....all's I use now is pads with wings! LOL!

Ok, so it's not too ecological. But I don't think I could do the Mama cloths at work.

Ames

ETA - I bleed really heavy the first 3-4 days of my period, so I don't know if that has anything to do with the failed use of these products. Then again, maybe I was just putting them in wrong.

Hmmm. I've heard of these. I'm using my own cloth pads now and I like that pads seem to make my period shorter (versus tampons which seem to make it last days longer). Also, there is no funky odor with cloth versus paper pads.

I"m interested in trying the moon cup. I used the Instead a few years back and liked it, but it was messy. Are these messy???

GOOD TOPIC and definitely not off topic...

I just received my Diva Cup. I know someone who uses one whom I trust and never made the move to it. Well, we booked a cruise last month and I'm at the age were I never know when I'm going to get my period. All I could think of was, geeze, gotta pack pads and tampons, and then, not ever use them or not pack enough, and then, how much I hate both.

Well...I practiced with my Diva so that if and when I get my period on that cruise, I'll be ready. You just have to get the hang of it You can run your finger around the outside of it once it's in you to make sure it has opened. Some people cut the tab on it and my friend told me not to, and I didn't, and I couldn't feel it at all. Of course it's going to be a little messy when you remove it. You simply rinse it off with hot water and a little soap, shake it, and put it back in. You don't even have to worry about doing this in a public restroom, as you can leave it in for up to 12 hours, although I don't know of anyone who does this.

It does save money and it does save the environment, as you're not flushing tampons or wrapping up pads for the garbage. It is made of silicone and comes in its own little bag, along with a pin that says Diva.

I'm actually looking forward to my period this time and can't wait to use it; wish I had known about it a long time ago. I can carry this around in my purse and be prepared for whenever...I can't believe it. Great thing to find at 51...wish I had known a long time ago...

You can google it and find their website for more info. Good Luck!

I have used the keeper for several years now and love it!! My periods ( after my tubal ligation) got soo heavy I wouldnt leave the house....still have problems now but its a lot easier if I have the keeper. I also use cloth pads as I dont care for the scratchy "diaper rash" feeling I get from storebought pads...lol

I've had one for five years, I started with the keeper and then bought a divacup in a larger size after having my son. I LOVE IT and have since the beginning. It's one of the best purchases I have ever made.

I don't find them particularly messy to put in or take out...ok taking OUT of course you have to empty and wash it unless you're in a public bathroom then I dont' bother to wash it but it's just a little blood on your finger and thumb and they're washable.

I would like to get one someday but with my weight it would be hard to use. I use my homemade cloth pads and it's so much easier and less painful than before (I'm convinced tampons were making my periods worse than they had to be). I just rinse them out and wash them with the diapers

Before I had my hysterectomy I used to use the Instead cups sometimes. But I got to bleeding so heavily that I would overflow them at the most inconvenient times. But I would have loved to have used them earlier in my reproductive years; they would have been a godsend. And yes, I reused the same one during one menstrual period. I would rinse it good in warm to hot water then reinsert it. They can really save you money, too.

Hmmm...I JUST noticed these at the health food store. Interesting. I too would worry about messiness. I'm with the other lady who said she doesnt even use tampons. I'm pads pretty much all the time. Tampons are hard cause Ya gotta change it every time you potty..and I potty ALOT. If i'm drinking water or soda...some times I pee a couple times an hour! Just too much work...

Now i noticed some one above said they can have sex using these????

You can have sex with the Instead cups but not the reusable Divas, Keepers and Mooncups.

Insteads were very messy for me, but the Diva Cup has been great. You don't have to change it every time you go to the bathroom. I change mine every 3-4 hours on heavy flow days and every 8-12 on lighter days.

I find pads much much messier than a mentstrual cup. You can have sex with the instead cup, that is one of the main reasons I started using one in the first place...it's extremely convenient! You can't have sex with the diva cup or keeper. I'm curious to know why you feel the need to change a tampon every time you pee?

I'm not Lori but I used to change my tampon every time I used the bathroom as I was bleeding so much using tampons. I could go through a super plus tampon plus a pad every hour at the worst part of my period, lasting a couple of days at least. Not using tampons has made my flow **signifigantly** lighter and I've never had a leak with cloth pads.
