IUD question???

Hi Everyone! Since I decided that 3 children are enough for right now I decided to go with an IUD just incase we change our mind later. Anyway my question is for those of you who do not get monthly TOM, the OB said that was a possibillty do you still have monthly PMS with out the actuall TOM? Is it possible that there could be a monthly stall/gain even though there is no TOM?
Does this make sense to anyone. Since the IUD just prevents the shedding of the lining is it possible that other hormones could go crazy and cause bloating etc.
Thanks
Maria

I was just fixing to post something about IUD's.I have had it in for 2 weeks I am EXTREMELY bloated and bleeding very heavily and I cant even describe how crampy I feel I have the paragard 10 year one so I cant speak for the mirena 5 year one (which is the one the ob says can eliminate periods and stop cramping. I was warned that the one I got would increase bleeding/cramping etc... but with all the discomfort I experienced at during and after insertion I didnt want to have to go back in 5 years, the longer the better before I have to go through that again.

lol I am a wimp when it comes to cramps and when the device hits the cervix its like labor all over again for me. I remember a really big pinch inside that was some sort of clamp the dr. used but after about 3 hours the cramping was gone it just recently came back two weeks after I had it inserted so I guess I am having one hell of a period to make up for the 9 months without one.

OMG...I don't think I can do that. Natural birth was so scary and painful for me that anymore pain down there is out of the question.

I had the 10 yr iud

And it along with the birth of my son made me very very anemic due to heavy periods, now they want to do a hystertomy because even though I had it removed I still have the heavy periods. I dont know if this is from the iud or other problems which I am being tested for. Also very bad bad cramping and long periods. It wasn't the one for me

When I had my paragard put in, I had bleeding for about 1 day, slight cramps for a few hours after insertion, and then I was fine. My monthly period is VERY crampy and heavy periods though.

I have had the Mirena for 2 years. Very happy I did it. I did cramp and bleed for a week or two. I also did gain weight. Happily, my periods are almost non existent many months. Every third month or so I get a heavier flow, but usually it is not even enough for a tampon. I love not having to worry about it. I do get PMS and cramping, just usually no bleeding.

Just had the Mirena put in today.
Hurt more than I thought it would to put it in, but because I haven't had any kids that was a factor. I had cramps for about 2 hours then I was fine.
So far so good!
My doctor steered me away from the Paragard, said too many women complain about really bad cramps and HEAVY bleeding.

I've had the mirena for over a year now. I don't have children yet so I did have some cramping then and do have some each month when I would be having a period. However, my periods are non-existent. I haven't used a tampon in a year. I had some very light spotting for a few days after insertion and then nothing since. It's suppose to be even easier on people who have had children since your cervix is larger due to stretching. I still have PMS with the moods and the zits...but none of that pesty bleeding. My insurance paid for mine and I think $20 for 5 years of birth control is a steal. I'll have mine removed when we decide to have kids but I'll definately choose this method again. My own gyno has the mirena herself.

I have had the mirena for over four years. I was having a period when it was put in, so the pain was minimal. I stopped having periods about four months later. Since I've recently lost a lot of weight, I have had some spotting the last couple of months - not even enough to waste a tampon on. I was not having PMS until my sister moved in and I started "cycling" with her. If there are no other women in their child-bearing years living with you, I would say you may not have any cycling symptoms at all (as I didn't until after she moved in).
