Thought you ladies might find this interesting...

My contact lenses have been bothering me ever since I've had Grant. I had heard that your eyes can change because of pregnancy hormones. Well, I finally broke down and made an eye appointment thinking that my eyes had gotten worse or my contacts needed to be polished (I have gas permeable ones).

Anyway, the doctor started looking at my eyes and noted that the contacts weren't fitting properly on my eyes anymore. We tried to do the regular exam with them in and was getting funky results so he had me take them out. Come to find out my eyes have gotten better! So much so, that I do not have to wear contact at all and only have to wear glasses for nighttime driving and if I want to watch tv for a long time.

I couldn't believe it and the doctor was a bit suprised too. He says that it is one of two things: either my pregnancy hormones have improved my vision or my contact lenses corrected it. If it is the pregnancy hormones, the doc said to expect my eyes to go back to where they were within a few months after I'm done breastfeeding. If it is the latter, my eyes will probably remain good for a long time, but eventually start to get bad again. He was putting his bets on the pregnancy hormones though, but couldn't believe the drastic change. This is the first time he's ever had to talk someone out of wearing contacts, he said, LOL!

Anyway, thought that was pretty cool and I guess I can enjoy it while it lasts!

Moral of the story: If things seem a bit off with your vision after having a baby, go get it checked out because things can change.

I just don't get why BFing is so hard. The success rate sucks. There are so many women that try and can't succeed at it! I really thought that #3 I could handle. ESPECIALLY since I made it past the initial first week and he started gaining.
Hey Becca. You need some I am so sorry this didn't work out. I know you really wanted it to. You are awesome for making it for 3 weeks with 2 kids and the dog. I don't know how much my midwife and especially my doula told me that the key to successful breastfeeding is to only focus on that for the first few weeks. It is really important to have extra hands around those crucial weeks to make it work.

I wish I knew why BFing was so hard too. God made us women to birth babies and feed our children, but child birth is painful and breastfeeding is difficult! That dang Eve for eating the forbidden fruit....she got us into this mess.

One thing I want to point out for those mommies that plan to breastfeed is that the constant nursing the first month or so is normal . A typical newborn should be nursing a minimum of 8 times in a day, but realistically they will be nursing 12-14 times a day those first few weeks.....yeah, that's literally every 1-2 hours from the start of a nursing session around the clock! Please don't be scared by this and think that the baby is starving. It is very rare for a mother not to be able to produce enough for their child. This is the baby's way of building up your supply. It is good that they don't get satisfied, otherwise it wouldn't work. Also, a pump will not do as good a job at this as a baby....so using a pump will prolong the process. It will get better, I promise!

I totally understand Becca how hard this was to keep up with. I had my MIL and husband both here with me those first few weeks and I literally did nothing but eat, sleep and nurse and I don't know how I could have done otherwise and succeeded. I was one of the unfortunate 12-14 nursing sessions a day category those first few weeks. All I felt like was a big boob!

I think that saying "it takes a village to raise a child" is soooo true. The human race couldn't have made it this far if nursing didn't work out for a majority of people. I really think that having a support group, especially family, around you is important. It also might help if we didn't have bottles and forumula at our fingertips either, *sigh*. I just want to cry every time I see another mommy on here give up breastfeeding, especially if they really wanted to do it. I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it work for everybody.

Morning ladies...

Ugh...this sleeping thing is NOT working out anymore. The right side of my back is so sore and all I do is toss and turn all night long. Even at work, I can't get comfy. I am beginning to understand the whole "I just want this pregnancy over with" mentality that people say all pregnant women get. It just seems to have gotten so much worse over the last couple of weeks. I can't stand it! I am so tired!!

Well, I had thought that my kitties couldn't make the tall leap into the crib, but last night, I was walking by the nursery and something caught my eye. I walk in and there is my male cat sleeping right there in the crib, curled up snug as a bug!! LOL I took a few pictures...so cute. I forgot to upload them last night. I will have to post them. Of course after I took the pictures, I shood him out and put tin foil along the bottom to try to deter him/them.

Hope I didn't miss anything major yesterday - although, I did notice today that Acutepenguin had her baby! Congratulations!

Grace ~ 5 from the top! And who knows thopki00 & rooney may have had their babies. They haven't checked in in a while. Has anyone PM'd them?? It is amazing how fast the list moves. Seems like I just found out. Yesterday was a panicy kind of day though. I had SO many people bring to my attention that I only had a month left - kinda made me scared.

Ames ~ Yeah on the better vision. I'll cross my fingers that it stays like that.

Becca ~ Just want to offer on the BF issue.

Well, I should get going...it's quarter end here and I have a lot to do. BBL!

Good morning, ladies. I lurked yesterday, but didn't feel like posting.

Acutepenguin--Congrats!!!

Abv--I can't really say what is normal, but I am so tired it is all I can do to get up, get dressed and go to work some days. Other days are better. I knew I'd be tired, but I never expected this. I slept for 12 hours last night and am hoping I feel better today.

Ames--Thanks for the breastfeeding info. I love your avatar!

Grace--You are moving up the list. I can't believe that I am moving up it too! Seems like just yesterday that I was at the very bottom.

Well, I am now recovered from our trip. It was only 3 days, but it felt like 3 weeks. Work was awful yesterday. I was so tired. I went home and slept from 4:15 until 6:30 and then was back in bed around 9 and slept until 7:15 this morning.

Everyone we've told is so excited. Now I just wish I could tell my boss (we are waiting until my next appointment which is in a week and a half) so that I can quit sucking my gut in all the time . I really need to eat better, but just can't get motivated to do it.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone had wonderful holiday weekends. It's not often our patriotic days (Canada & the USA) bookend a weekend like that.

Grace - That climbing of the list is happening fast! It is still a shock (happy one) to see how many weeks are beside my name after all the trouble we had getting there.

Amy - not long now is a good thing considering how you are feeling. I hope sleep and back trouble get better in the upcoming weeks not worse.

Becca - sorry to hear about the BF troubles. I am worried myself about how that will go being totally unexperienced, but I think you did awesome with the other tots and puppy to worry about.

Ames - thanks for the vision info. I can only wish that will happen to me. I am finding I have "dry eye" issues while wearing my contacts and I had heard vision changes while pregnant so I put off getting tested until after our little one arrives. Maybe I will be blessed with improvement, and hopefully yours isn't so temporary after all.

Louise - sorry you are still feeling so wiped out. It seems even more frustrating doesn't it, now that summer is in full swing and you want to be out doing things. Hopefully you will get that second trimester burst of energy you hear about. Glad to hear everyone is thrilled about your upcoming new arrival.

Well back to the grind, hope everyone has a great day!

Hi!

We are back from our trip and had a great time. My BF leaves today so that will be hard. DS will miss having her DD here to play with as well. MS has really subsided. There is no way I will be able to get caught up on what happened here while I was gone. But I would like to say:

Congratulations to jehcekah and acutepenguin.

Texoma-Welcome!

Grace-It is fun to see yourself move up on the list.

MetroAmes-My vision improved slightly after DS was born as well. Great info on breastfeeding.

SmileyAmy-Sorry you are so uncomfortable. My hips were the worst with DS. I remember sleeping with three extra pillows to try and get comfy. DH had to fight for a spot on the bed! I hope you get some relief soon.

Louise-Have you had any relief from your constant exhaustion? I really should start to get better for you soon.

vjfreddi-Hi! Have a good day.

BBL,

Hey Ladies. Here really quick. Will be back soon.

Thanks Ames for the words of wisdom. I appreciate it!

Thanks everyone for the hugs.

Luke is eating 40 oz of Isomil Advance a day! I called the Dr. worried because that is alot for a 3 wk old and they are recommending adding some rice cereal. They don't normally recommend that so I'm a bit taken back. My Dr. isn't really very "old school" and adding that usually is. I don't even want to try to mess with the freaking nipples to get that crap thru.

I also wanted to welcome bandyxoxo25.

abvidrine-Are you feeling any better today? Have you called your Dr?

Many great pictures were posted while I was gone. Beautiful babies!

Thank you! I so needed to see someone else say this. Abby has kept me up all night the last two nights and she wants to nurse constantly. I knew she wasn't starving (she goes through tons of diapers) but I am feeling slightly insane. I even broke down and attempted a pacifier and a bottle with breast milk. She wanted nothing to do with either! I did syringe feed her a little bit so I got a tiny break.

Yup Trailboss, that is alot. And I'm holding up okay. My guilt is lessening. I'm just really disappointed that nursing didn't work out. I really really wanted it to. I'm getting ready to give him a bottle with Rice cereal in it, but I made the nipple hole bigger and who knows if it is going to get clogged. Anyone have any experience with this? Is Kim around?

Smiley-Sorry, the pain only gets more annoying, not better until you deliver. Sleeping is a challenge. When you get home with the baby, feed her and then sleep whenever she sleeps. With one baby at home you can do that and I highly recommend it. Don't do the dishes or the laundry, just rest.

OMG...I could deal with the lack of sleep if my back would just stop killing me! I am constantly squirming in my seat. I finally e-mailed my two account managers and asked them to give me a hand with hole punching my filing. It kills me!! I feel like they think I am being dramatic - but I am not. If I have to do more than just my daily stuff, I am in so much pain! Am I overreacting here...or did you other mommies feel the same at this point. It just hurts so bad!!

Rant ~ Lady next to me - PLEASE CHEW QUIETER!! I DON'T NEED TO OR WANT TO HEAR YOU CHEWING YOUR VEGGIE PUFFS!! It is completely getting on my nerves!!

Can you tell I am a bit moody today!?!?

Have you tried nursing while lying down?

I admit I think I would have been saner at the point you are at if I could have done that. I wasn't very good with the positioning while nursing, so once I found one that ensured a good latch I kept using that one. DS is now 7 months old and we both do great nursing in the bed. Most of the time I am able to fall back to sleep before he even finishes. I wished I had put forth more of an effort to nurse in the bed when he was the age of your DD.

Are you going to have to give her bottles of breastmilk eventually? If so, you might want to continue of offer them periodically so she will be accustomed to them. While, it didn't personally happen with me, I have heard stories where mom waited to long and the baby would never take a bottle.

Ok, back to lurking now.

I'm 41 weeks now. At least I know he'll be here in 4 days then it's back to a better diet. I've not been such a good girl but oh well. I lost it once, I can do it again. I still weigh less that I did when I delivered my first son though so I'm pretty happy. Hope everyone else is well and congrats to all the newly expecting mommies. Sorry I've been MIA. I'll try to do better.

Luna- nursing laying down is great! You can sleep!!

They suggest offering a bottle around 3 wks at first to make sure they will take it. Just an FYI.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Luna-Hi

Becca-I hope you find a nipple that won't clog. Sorry I am no help, I didn't start cereal until DS could take it with a spoon.

Amy-I don't think you are overreacting. Boy, as soon as I started showing people never let me do anything without rushing in to help. Sorry your co-workers are not more sympathetic. Surely some of the ladies you work with have been pregnant and remember how uncomfortable it is at the end!?!?

Grace-Have fun at the gym. At this stage in your pregnancy what do you work out on? If it were me, I would be in the swimming pool!

Labor vibes to thopki00!

Jackie, I mostly do the exercise bike now. It seems to accomodate my expanding tummy. I have given up on weights for now. At least I'm still going, I guess. I want to try to keep in the habit, even though I don't think it is doing much good.

I still feel totally drained & exhausted today, much different than I have been feeling lately. I had to take a nap after I went to the gym, the only reason that I got up is because I was starving. Maybe I am starting to feel the full effects of the third trimester?

I need help with something. Does anyone have any suggestions for little gifts for my girlfriends that are hosting my shower? I'm really bad at that kind of stuff.

Grace-Would your girlfriends like a gift certificate for a some kind of spa treatment (manicure, pedicure, facial)? Depending on how many girlfriends you are talking about, that could get expensive. Do they collect anything or have a specific hobbies? Good Luck! I'm not good at that stuff either.

Well, my girlfriend and her family left a couple of hours ago. I'm kinda bummed but I look forward to seeing her in a month. Now I get to start on laundry - Woo Hoo!

Becca is there any way you can get a second opinion? Cereal at 3 weeks of age?

Babies are not designed to digest that early!!!!!!! And is there a reason for it being soy formula?

I really hate for this to sound bad in any way right now... and I apologize ahead of time. It is good that you did breastfeed him at all.... but I think you gave up long before you had him! I can remember your posts and you were already negative and thinking you could not do it while you were still pg! Is that mentality effecting the bf'ing maybe?

Once again I am sorry if I piss you or anyone off. It is your body in the end and you are an adult and have free will to choose!

But at the very least I would get another opinion on the cereal... thats insane that young!
