Just thought I'd get you ladies started. Alison screamed to wake me up, then fell back to sleep!

I posted an update on Rob's surgery and other happenings in our world at the Baby Fat thread, if anyone is interested. Yesterday, and this weekend, are VERY busy for us.

Lara, I'm glad Abby is doing so well! She's just beautiful!

Amy, congrats on DH's job!

Alli, Jessica, sorry you guys are so miserable. Alli, I can't believe you've made it this far! I hope you guys are holding your little ones soon.

Hello to everyone else. I need to find myself some breakfast while I still have a chance.

Dar--Thanks for getting us started. I read up on your DH. I hope he is feeling better. I am glad Alison had a good time at the game!

Mandy--Sounds like Spencer is doing well. I hope he can be home from the hospital soon!

I feel so much better today. I am still sick, but nothing like yesterday. I got up around 7:30 and have been doing some housework. DH will be amazed! I feel so bad that I haven't been able to help out much, but I've just been so tired.

I looked online a Classic Pooh nursery stuff, and I don't like any of it . It is cute, but it just isn't what I want. Ugh. Maybe I just need to look around more. I really don't want a theme at all. Maybe we can do a few Pooh things and that will make DH happy.

Well, DH is awake. Now I can vacuum! Have a great day everyone!

Hi Ladies.

Here really quick.

Here is my birth story. LOL Short and sweet, or not so sweet.

I took the castor oil, took a nap, woke up at about 4pm with contractions 10 min apart. Just 2 of them, then they were 2 min apart and getting harder. In laws were here with the kids, got a ride to the hospital lined up and DH left work on his way there. Called the Dr. Waited...he didn't call back. I called and said "too bad, can't wait, on my way!" Got to the hospital and they put me in this little room to change and left me there. 5 min they come in and say "OMG I didn't realize it was your 3rd baby. Come with me." They put me in a labor room, start the monitors and stuff. I said "I NEED MY EPIDURAL" They ignore me a bit, run IVs, give me my antibiotic, check me. I'm 4 cm. I'm SCREAMING in pain, crying, they are yelling at me to stop breathing so fast. Wacko nurse from hell comes in and checks me. She says 5 cm. I don't know what she did while up there but she set off the worst contraction and pressure ever!! I kept telling them from the time I got there that I had to pee but his head was in the way. They did nothing to help. So all of a sudden I'm feeling the need to push....I do...I pee EVERYWHERE and keep peeing. I said SEE! I felt better but said I need my epidural!! The Dr comes in...they call for the epi...he is busy. Dr. wants to give me 2 shots on either side of my cervix, but says I can still have the epi. I was too scared to get the shots and didn't. So he checks me. This is like 2 min later. I'm like 8/9! So I looked the good nurse in the eyes as I'm crying and grabbing her hand and DHs and said "I'm not getting an epidural am I?" She says, "No honey...I'm sorry." So then the ***** hits the fan and I'm screaming OH GOD OH GOD GET IT OUT!!!! I have NEVER EVER EVER been in so much pain or so scared in my life. Granted I pushed him out quickly but I really thought I was going to die. I'm so not the right person for natural birth! But 3 hrs start to finish it was done. I felt great after but am really tired now. The thought of the whole thing makes me upset.

Luke is doing good. He had a little blue scare a few hrs after delivery but they say it is from him being born so fast and not having the fluid squeezed out of him. He is keeping me busy, but not as busy as my other 2.

I can't get the freaking pics to upload yet, but will be back.

Talk more later!

Good morning, Dar & Louise.

I actually went to bed at a decent time last night, so I didn't get us started. We had a "date night", which we *try* to do once a week. Went out for a nice dinner and then came back and watched some recorded shows on Tivo together. (House Doctor, Queer Eye, and This Old House) How exciting!

I suppose I'd better enjoy the date nights while we can still manage them, although I swear that we are going to try to keep it up (maybe once every other week) and hire a babysitter after the baby is born. Probably not the first few months, but after that. DH has a younger (28 year old) half sister that lives close to us. I think she would be thrilled to babysit. I think it is so important to keep our relationship as a couple strong, even after we have kids. Has anyone else been able to do this? Am I dreaming?

Lou, (do you mind if I call you Lou? I love that name for a female.) I am surprised you are getting ANY housework done right now. I swear, I only did what I absolutely HAD to do during the first 3-4 monts. It was really pathetic. I was SO TIRED, all the time. I was doing laundry like once a month, at the most, only when we were completely out of clothes.

I like your idea for the Pooh nursery. Just buy the bedding & stuff that you like and then throw a few Pooh items in there for decoration. If your DH is anything like mine, he won't know the difference.

Becca! Wow, what a story!!! Thanks for checking in with us.

That kind of scares me that the nurses were so unsympathetic. Did your doctor deliver you? Or, was it the on-call doc? What was up with the 2 shots on either side of your cervix? What kind of shots?

OH BECCA! If you can't have the meds, then damnit... They needed SOMEONE in there to try and comfort you and calm you down. I know that's hard to do, but jeez... Just running in and out of there isn't good either. And lemme tell ya... When they come that fast, the contractions are a monster. You're going from point A to point B in such a short amount of time that the contractions are so hard. I'm glad you have your little boy though, and he's healthy! CONGRATS MOMMY!!!

hey gals, thanks.

the nurses weren't mean..just didn't think I'd go so fast I guess. The hospital was overloaded with births and the anethesiologist was just too busy. The nurse that told me the truth in the end was a great help. I would have had a panic attack for sure without her. It was the on call Dr. from my practice. He had just come out of surgery (C-section I believe) when I got there. Just too that day.

Dena, hero...no way. LOL.

I'm nursing and think it is going okay. I can't get him to open up as wide as I need to to get the right latch. I'm trying to find a pump to rent too so I can have some bottles for DH to use.

Grace-Sorry if I'm scaring you. A 3 hr labor is really not a common thing. Don't worry.

Wow, Becca, sounds like a fast and crazy birth! Sorry you weren't able to get the epidural. Congrats!

Grace--Of course you can call me Lou. Your date night sounds like so much fun! That is totally something my DH and I would do. I can only do house work in the mornings. In fact, I am so ready for a nap right now. Unfortunately, I am at work. Just for a bit though, then I am off to the grocery store.

Where are all of our pregnant ladies today? I hope you are all having a good weekend!

I love this part. I was laughing......

Becca, believe it or not, I'm not as scared as I am jealous. I would rather have extreme pain, all at once, than one of those drawn out deliveries. My sister's labors (all 3 of them) were all super long, and I'm afraid that's what I'm in for. Then again, she always did all-natural, midwife delieveries and I am definitely planning to deliver in a hospital, with drugs (sorry natural mommies). I don't think they will let me labor as long in the hospital.

I guess I am just scared, period. I wish I knew what to expect so that I could get mentally prepared, not going to happen, I know.

Hi everyone,

Awww... Becca, I'm so sorry you didn't have the experience you wanted. Sounds like the wild ride from hell!! But, congratulations and I can't wait to see pictures of Luke! Your birth story and mine completely confirm my theory that all pregnant women need to be prepared for all the different major scenarios because you never know what you are going to get. I'm quite sure I would have been totally panicked if I hadn't read up on epidurals and c-sections even though I was dead set on no drugs given the option. Instead I was joking around with the anethesologist in surgery about the time my husband who was standing by the warmer with baby looked over and me and saw my uterus held up being inspected. I'm hoping he's not scarred for life over that one!

I'm still catching up on everyone's posts between all the feedings, diaper changes, taking care of my incision, etc. What an adventure!

Breastfeeding is getting a little easier every day THANK GOD. The constant pumping was getting tedious. It seems she's pretty much over her jaundice too. Her color is much better and poopie is now the classic seedy yellow. Tonight we give her a sponge bath!

One thing I wanted to mention to the first time mom's to be that happened to me but I had no idea about was the major hot flashes I had the first few days after delivery. A couple times a day/night I would completely SOAK my clothes, pillowcase, etc. Not sure what you can do about it, but apparently it's normal for some women -- keep hydrated!

Hope everyone is doing well, I'll try to post some pictures soon!

((hugs))
Meg

WOW Becca! That's quite the birth. I also agree with Grace on the theory or a painful short one vs. a long drawn out one like I had with ds. BUT, who knows the grass is always greener right? Can't wait to see some pictures.

Meg - How come you had to pump? Our nurses recommend waiting a couple of weeks until I start pumping. With ds I waited a little too long (around 6 weeks) and he hated the bottle. This time I'm going to try to make it to two weeks instead, so others can help feed. I'm glad it's going well for you. I love it when bf turns out good for people. I found it to be SOOO easy, after the first month or so .

I'm still hanging in here. The u/s was kind of stinky yesterday. They are so big and squished you can't even really see anything. She saw all the important stuff like the heart, kidneys etc. but we had a hard time trying to see faces or hands and stuff. The nurses on the maternity floor don't think I'll make it until Friday, but we'll see. At least the other c/s that was scheduled the same day as mine is canceled now. She went in early on Wednesday and had her little girl. Maybe I'll luck out again and have the whole floor to myself. That's how it was with ds, 6 days with no other mommies or babies. It felt like I was at a grand hotel LOL. I can only hope.

Hi Alli, ooooh, I'm getting excited for you!

I'm pumping for a couple of reasons. The main one is to help my nipples be more latchable -- they are borderline flat so the pumping helps Charlotte get a better latch. The other reason is that she's easily latching onto my left boobie but not the right. So when she has trouble with the right I pump it to keep it from getting engorged and then DH can use the milk with a special bottle nipple & technique our lactation consultant taught us when I want to sleep through one of the nighttime feedings. I was very hesitant to pump at first but 3 different lacatation consultants (2 at the hospital and 1 independent) all agreed it would help if used in moderation. So far so good - just tedious!

Ah, I see. I had to use a nipple shield on one of my breasts. I had surgery done on one and he had a hard time latching on on the other. Once Charlotte gets bigger you probably won't have to do it anymore. I was a faithful pumper though once I started LOL. I'd pump and freeze and even pumped once he started solids to put in his cereal. I'd do the morning feeding and then pump right after. I finally threw out the last couple of bags I had in the freezer a few months ago LOL. Even though it had been in there for more than a year, I just couldn't bring myself to ditch it . It was hard work.
I'm glad it's going well and only hope it'll work out again with the twins. I hope you're getting some good rest when you can!!!!

Oh Becca I am so sorry you didn't get your epidural! I'm with you, I don't seem to tolerate pain well. I'm glad you and Luke are ok though!

Meg, I think I missed your pictures of Charlotte until today. She is adorable! And you are right about preparing for all possibilities. Well, I say that but if I hadn't had an epidural or if I had a c-section, I may not have been very well behaved!

I want to make my way over to the baby fat thread but I expect my inlaws to be here any minute. I will be glad when the visitors stop.

Yesterday we had an appointment with a lactation consultant that went well. Abby weighs 7 lbs 5 ounces which is 2 ounces down from birth.

OMG Becca! My doc let me have my epi when I was at 10 and had just started pushing. Alex was sunny-side up and came out face first...oweeee!

My OPK sticks are getting darker so I know the time is coming. DH, kids and I went yardsaling today. It was so hard to not buy every single baby thing I saw, even though we're getting all new stuff. I saw about 5 strollers I wanted to pack in the back of my soccer-mom-minivan and drive off with, but DH stopped me. But the MINUTE I get my BFP I'm going to put my crib on layaway. I just love the smell of baby things. Can I come to someone's house and smell your babies?? LOL

Meg, I had the same problem. I would wake up totally soaked. Pretty icky.

This week has just been amazing! Richard had the week off and he is such a natural father... still scared of other babies, but he can't keep his hands off Kayden ~smiles~ She smells sooooo good! Her breath is so yummy and I could just gobble up her toes! She has my toes! My second and third toe don't seperate all the way, and neither do hers... it's adorable! We're still arguing about who she looks like though... I look at her and see Richard, he looks at her and sees me... guess it's always that way ~smiles~

Anyway... we're getting ready to take her for a walk, but first, some new pictures!

3 days old:
Hello everyone!

Big yawn!

Ooo!

Sunbathing

5 days old:
What's that?

Intrigued!

I haven't uploaded any from today yet... I'm sure I will though! I'm still writing my birth story, so I'll be back with that ~smiles~

Wow Becca, what a birth story! Sorry you didn't get the drugs since you wanted them, but dang! I hope to have a birth like that the next time, although my husband would probably freak out!

VixenAmy, Kayden is just gorgeous! I can't wait to hear your birth story.

About pumping and feeding too early. I pumped early on too, but it wasn't to feed with a bottle. Grant wouldn't latch on very well the first few days, because he was sleepy, so we cup fed him after each attempt at the breast. Finally, on day 4 he woke up, latched on like a champ and nursed me to the ground after that! I was told strongly by my doula to NOT introduce any type of foreign nipple until at least 5 or 6 weeks, otherwise you risk nipple confusion. It is easier to feed from an artificial nipple than from the breast. The baby may decide to take the easier route with the artificial nipple and begin refusing the breast, thus causing a downward spiral and end to breastfeeding. If you do it, make sure to use only your milk, because supplementing with forumula can jeapordize your supply. It is even better if you feed with a cup or syringe instead of the bottle. Also, by 4-5 weeks you should have built a good milk supply. Babies are better at building it up than a machine. Don't wait too long to introduce the bottle either, otherwise they may refuse it. That narrow window of 5-6 weeks is the best time. Just be careful ladies with the bottles if you really want to stick with the breastfeeding. I am so happy to hear that all the new mommies seem to be doing well with it!

Ames

My in-laws are driving me nuts!! My mother in law wants me to give Abby bottles of water and pacifiers. My father in law wants to feed my week old baby rice cereal! They think we need to get a second car seat in case our current one "wears out". And they are both being so aggressive with her that she threw a terrible crying fit today. They kept bouncing and shaking her and my father in law was being loud which I think was scaring her!

My husband is trying to gently tell them they need to calm down a bit. I am liable to blow a gasket though. I know they are excited about their first grandchild but I think she will just end up being scared of them if they attack her like that!

I hope tomorrow goes better!

I'm glad it's going well and only hope it'll work out again with the twins. I hope you're getting some good rest when you can!!!!

Alli, that is so awesome that you are going to attempt to breastfeed twins! You have experience with one, so I'm sure you will succeed with two. I hope you have a great support team to help you with everything. I don't know what I would've done without my MIL being there. She breastfed her kids, so she was an invaluable source of support...that and she cooked and cleaned and changed most of the diapers, which was great!

Just think of all the calories you're gonna burn. I'm kind of jealous. If I didn't work, I'd probably pump just to get away with eating more, LOL! You are my hero!

Lara, sorry to hear about the in-laws. My mother was kind of the same way when she was here... even telling me to drink beer to increase my production! LOL... She still asks me when I'm going to give Alison rice cereal to help her sleep at night. Why? She sleeps 6 hours or so, last night she slept 8!!!!! Mothers.. gotta love 'em sometimes.

Becca, I hope BFing will work for you this time. Good luck!

Amy, Kayden is so adorable!
