TOM question...or is it TOY
This isn't directly related to low carbing, but I'm curious nonetheless. I am 19 years old and I only get my period about 2 or 3 times a year. I am somewhat athletic, but certainly not a marathon runner...in fact I haven't run in months. I am also not extremely thin. Those are the 2 things I have heard that will cause you to have very irregular and nonfrequent periods. The weirdest part is, I got my first one in 8th grade and for the first year or 2 they were regular, every month. It's only been in the past 3-ish years that I have had so few. I know this doesn't have anything to do with low carbing because I've been like this since before low carbing.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard of it? I just hope there isn't any problem with me that would prevent me from being able to have kids... Any help is appreciated thanks! |

You probably don't want to take this as medical advice...if you are having issues with TOM, you should go see a doctor. You never know.
But, I have heard of women who's cycles are all thrown off. I have a friend who actually got her TOM every two weeks when she was doing LC. But, as I said before...no one here is a doctor, and you shouldn't decide not to see a doctor because of advice you got here. Get checked out just in case. Good luck! |

I saw a doctor about a year ago and they ran some tests looking for hormones at the wrong levels I think, but nothing came of that. So I suppose it's nothing life threatening, just weird. Although I guess I shouldn't really complain about only have a period twice a year...

In your post you mention this problem hopefully not interfering with having children...I think it might if it means you are not ovulating and therefore not having a cycle. You might want to go see a doctor if you want to have children. Even if you aren't wanting kids right now, you may want to go see a doc and see if there is a problem. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out the problem and get a solution, so you might want to go see someone in case it's something that will take time to work out.
