Well, since I'm still up, just getting it started today. I posted a long response in yesterday's post.. but, Martha, I'm pretty sure it's April.

Kaillean & Tammara.. Suzanne (ThinInMex), who had her baby in October is 42, I think. She has a beautiful baby girl, plus a handsome son named Max. She's the one who was jogging at 42 weeks pregnant! You guys will do great.

Morning everyone! Jeeze, I never even noticed I wrote March in yesterdays thread title! I have serious pregnancy brain. Mom says I have CRS—can’t remember *****! LOL She laughed so hard when I told her I am continually losing count when I do kegels—I can’t even make it to twelve (elevator or hold to ten type)!

Dar, I’ll be thinking about you and praying everything goes smoothly all day!

Tammara, things work kind of different over here. Healthcare is socialized, so they generally do less testing, and I’ve had to push for some things—like Group B Strep. So, I didn’t get any flack about skipping the AFP and amnio. It’s a hard choice…

Heather, thanks for the recipe, I’m going to try it! Sounds yummy!

Hi Luna and Meg:- )

Kaillean, well put about the downs. I wouldn’t be the slightest bit concerned about your trip. I think you should go!

Chelle, as usual, Elana is gorgeous!

Dena, relax, take a deep breath. It will all be OK. I can sympathize with you though. Maybe it’s time for a massage?

Hi Mandy, glad to hear you’re hanging in there. *hugs*

Hey, I am NOT an old lady! LOL

Well, lots more crampiness last night, but it seems less today…still feel it when I get back in bed after a pee trip at night, though…it’s kind of like hot cramps in my lower abdomen. I’ll ask the midwife about it tomorrow…still have loose bowels, no matter what I eat.

Will try to check back in later.

I never noticed it said March either!

On another (mainstream) forum I used to go to there is a woman who posted a story about something she did a while back... I know how I felt after reading it, but I'm wondering how others would feel since we have a mix of mainstream and non-mainstream views here.

Quote:
my niece doesn't get spanked. They don't use Supernany techniques either Wink - which I plan on using. (unless he doesn't take to it.)

Anyways, on Saturdayshe was being a real terror - she's four. And she kept taking away A.J.'s pacifier and running away laughing. He starts crying so after three times I told her mom. Her mom did nothing but say, "Andrea, quit it, or we're going home!" So she did it again after I got it away from her. So then as I'm sitting there she HITS ME! So I said, "listen you are really getting on my nerves. If you hit me again I'm gonna hurt you." So she waited about 2 minutes then acted like she was going to hit A.J. - but instead HIT ME again. Then said, "you're not gonna hurt me."

I gave the baby to Angelo and grabbed her arm and squeezed it (in front of her mother) and said, "what the hell is your problem?! You need some attention or something?!" I looked her right in her face and growled, "if you mess with me or A.J. again I'm gonna hit you, kid, and your mother won't be able to protect you then. You got it?! Now apologize to me!" She sniffed a little then said, "sorry" and ran to her mom.

I cant see why any adult would talk to a child like that. I feel like that is worse than spanking, a spanking IMO is not as bad as verbally/mentally abusing a child. So i guess i don't agree with how either is handling this child.... just my 2 pennies since you asked.

Excuse my ignorance (at 4.5 weeks, I am just not up on all the mommy lingo yet ) but what is the difference between a mainstream mom and a non mainstream mom??

Thanks Chelsea and Dar. Next time my SIL offers unsolicited advice I will tell her to mind her own beeswax. I like that one -- we're pregnant, not dead!

That's a good question... I consider myself to be non-mainstream because I am using a midwife, I question and refuse standard tests, etc... basically try to go very natural through the pregnancy, but I believe in attachment parenting and gentle discipline, no vaccinations... some non-mainstream parents can go a lot farther than that though... things like no tv, homeschooling (something I'm considering), etc... it's normally seen as very earthy and natural... though that's just how I view non-mainstream... I'm sure others would describe it differently.

A mainstream mom normally goes to an OB, agrees to all tests... typically more medical... not as distrusting of the medical community, believes spanking is a good idea, etc... again, this is just how I generally view mainstream.

It's hard for me to define those quite honestly... I guess it boils down to:
Mainstream = goes with the general opinion on things
non-mainstream = bucks the system

Oh please... someone help me out... I'm too tired to make sense!

Chelsea... I don't think it'd be too girly for a baby boy, but after he gets a little older... welllllllll ~laughs~

Morning, girls. Wow, I actually got a little sleep last night! Only one bad dream, totally not baby related. Weird.

I'm going to have Rob take some last photos of me. If I'm brave I might actually show some skin. LOL! If I have time, I'll post them. He's still in bed, though.

Kaillean, I think that's the right attitude to adopt NOW! Tell others to mind their own business. It's your baby, your body. You are going to get SO much unsolicited advice, you might as well get used to it.

VixenAmy.. hmmm.. what possessed her to go all postal like that? I mean, I know we all have weak moments, and it looks like that's what she had. She could have handled herself better. If she had a clear mind that wasn't clouded by her frustration with that little terror, perhaps she could have removed herself and and her baby from that situation, or removed the terror. I believe in time outs, personally. Spanking has it's place, but often times removing a child from a situation is a good alternative. Teaching them what's right rather than only punishing wrong behavior. DH and I actually had a very brief discussion last night at dinner. We've never really discussed discipline, but through our past 3+ years of learning how to work with very demanding, difficult dogs, we've learned alot about training, conditioning, and discipline. I've done alot of reading regarding those issues, and much of it is applied to child-rearing, not just for dogs or other animals. Don't Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor is a great example. Her book is used in all kinds of situations.

Eek! Does that make me non-mainstream in some way.

Chels, Caena's feet are healing nicely. She even felt up to playing frisbee yesterday.

Okay, going to do some other stuff.. I might be back later.

Hi ladies.

Dar, thinking of you today!

Michelle, Elana is so cute! Where do they learn to do that pout? I swear they know its effective.

Vixen, I have never been one to question other peoples disciplinary methods but my excuse was always 'I don't have kids so I have no business saying anything'. I can't imagine speaking to a child that way and I am not a fan of spanking. I really don't know how I will end up disciplining my child. I know you can't reason with a 2 year old but I can't imagine smacking her either. When they are old enough to "know better" I think there are so many creative ways to handle it. My Grandmother used to torture me by making me sit on the edge of her bed. I could not lie down or do anything. SO boring!

Kaillean, I wanted to add my opinion to what your SIL said. I find it funny she made a comment about not being selfish. I have exercised throughout my pregnancy and have received positive comments from a lot of people for doing so. I always say I have to do it for the baby! I figure keeping yourself healthy keeps the baby healthy.

Be back later probably.

My main question about how she handled the situation was that she's not the child's mom... personally, I don't believe that anyone, aside from myself and DH, have a right to disipline my children... if they are at school and do something wrong then disipline them within the those parameters (send to prinicpals office, detention, etc), but NO ONE should EVER lay a hand on my child unless I say it's okay! ~sighs~

Dar, unfortunately based on her posts after that one it sounds like she didn't just *lose it*... she said she was totally justified in what she did and would do it again, if not more.

Ah, yeah, she needs to get herself in line, then. Like I said, she should have removed herself completely from that situation and talked to her sister/SIL - she didn't say who the mom was. I agree that NO ONE will discipline my child unless authorized to do so in a way I find appropriate. I'll have to have a serious talk with my in-laws about it for sure. I went about crazy when my FIL hit my younger pup Caena. NO ONE hits my dogs. Ever. Not even me, unless we are rough-housing. They don't know what it means and it doesn't work. And to hit my puppy because she was sniffing up my neice's skirt? Hello? She's a DOG! I still get just thinking about it. Just the look of sheer remorse on their face when they get a time out is enough for me to know it works.

Whee! Taxes are done!

I don't understand what people expect to get from hitting animals either... all that I've ever seen happen is the animal becomes afraid of the hitter. I used to help my aunt raise and train her dogs, and assisted with shows... her dogs were well behaved, and they were never hit. Makes me think that if she can keep 15 dogs in line without resorting to violence, then something she was doing must've been working.

Anyway... thought I'd share why I'm up so early (it JUST turned 6am here) It was NOT a pleasant way to wake up!!! At 4:30 this morning a car horn went off in the parking lot... not an alarm, but it also didn't sound like someone just holding their horn, ya know? So I wondered about it for a minute, and then got up to check... I somehow got over my fear of dark windows and looked out... there was a CAR ON FIRE in our parking lot!!! Thankfully not near our car, but still a CAR ON FIRE!!! Well, me being pyrophobid freaked out... I ran into the living room screaming for Richard (he snores... my preggy body just can't handle the snores now, so when it's bad he sleeps in the living room... I'm so horrible!)... I told him to call 911 that there was a CAR ON FIRE! While he did that I called the after hours emergency # for the complex to let them to what was up, just in case.... and while we were both on the phone... there was an explosion! Oh good... the car on fire was now an even bigger CAR ON FIRE!!! I HAD to go outside to watch. Yes, I am pyrophobic, so you'd think the only place I'd want to be would be hiding in a closet, but I don't work that way... if there is a fire I HAVE to be in control of it or I freak out... I knew I couldn't be in control of this one, so I had to at least watch it and know what it was doing... I couldn't stop shaking!!! We got downstairs and watched for a while... of course there were others milling around as well, though surprisingly, not as many as I'd have expected. After about 45 minutes they firemen ran out of water so they left a guy with a fire extinguisher and went to the other side of the parking bays to another fire hydrant... took them 5 minutes to get attached to the hydrant!!! Meanwhile inside me I was screaming, "The fire's getting bigger! Hurry! Put it out! Put it out!!!" By this time the smoke is so bad that I'm breathing through the side of my sweatshirt so not to inhale too much, and Richard wants to go upstairs... I start panicking more at the thought of not knowing what the fire was doing, but he's been sick and needed to lay down, and I certainly didn't want to be out there alone... so we went back inside. After about 15 minutes I went back out to check, and it was done... no more flames. Now the firemen are packing up to leave. Never once did we see anyone come out who claimed it was their car. Man, that's gonna suck when they find out.

Anyway... here I am now... 99% sure I will NOT be sleeping anymore today... great... I'm so tired! But sleep will bring nightmares of fire... no thank you!!!

Dar...you are probably gone by now, but good luck and I can't wait to hear from you.

I feel so bad about not doing personals this week. Really I am just skimming the posts. Sorry...

Well, I found 2 shirts at Fasion Bug...enought to get me through the week in comfy cloths. I will look more this weekend with my mother.

I guess I am never happy. Now that I have a maternity outfit on, I feel like an idiot. I keep dodging people. It's like the beginning where I didn't like people finding out I was pregnant because of the attention. Now I am afraid of people running up to me saying things about my cloths. Oh well...I will get used to it. The newness just has to pass.

I will try to pop in through out the day again.

Hey girlies... This is gonna sound terrible, but I really can't wait to have the baby. I want to be able to start dieting NOW... I am the biggest I've ever been, and I don't like it. I'm trying not to let myself get down about it, because there's nothing I can do now, but I think that's what it is... That there's nothing I can do about it...

VIXEN AMY - I don't think she's mainstream or non-mainstream... Just mean. Okay, so if someone else's kid is acting like that (which IS unacceptable), you tell the parent to do something about it. If they won't, then you remove them or yourself from the situation.

SMILEYAMY - Just relax hon... Take a deep breath, because you can't worry about what everyone will think...

Gotta get Miss Anna down for an early nap (she woke up uber early), so I'm gonna cut this short... Oh, and Chelsea... She'll be 1 on the 12th...

DAR: You are in my thoughts today!! I'm so excited!! I can't wait to hear and see your pictures!

AMY: You'll be fine. You have to be comfortable. You can't worry about what others think. And, you know what, they'll just think you are pregnant, and what's so wrong with that?

I am so with you on this! I'm motivated to lose the weight now. I want to be able to keep up with my little one when he or she starts getting active. I don't want to be chasing him or her for five minutes and then feel like I am going to pass out.

I had my weekly appointment today. Baby is head down and cervix is sealed shut "water tight" as she put it.

We took a "mini" tour of the hospital.....it's in a rural area, and you can kind of tell by the way they answered my questions....IV's are "mandatory" and they don't want you walking around much....I'm assuming she meant if I am medicated because I'll be d@mned if I can't walk around. Overall, the experience is okay. I feel my doctor will accomodate me as much as possible. This is a tiny hospital, so we will get a lot of attention.....I just have to make things very clear before going in.

Why doI feel like this is going to be a late baby?

Heather - How do you do it? And all you other mommies that go over 40 weeks?

Dena: In the hospital where I delivered I had an IV but I could walk around or use a birthing ball or whatever. They were really accomodating. They even had a tub I could use if I wanted too. Is yours the same way?

New mommy-to-be here!

Hey guys! DH & I found out on Saturday that I'm pregnant. Only been trying for about 7 weeks, so it was kind of a surprise. I'm guessing I'm due around Dec. 10th. We're telling his parents tomorrow & mine on Saturday. He's got 2 older kids that we're going to tell on Friday. It's all kinda weird now, but we'll get things figured out pretty soon.
