Good Morning Mommies!

Smiley!! Great news about the extra u/s! I hope hubby does something special for you today.

Becca, I remember hearing something like if you feel really sick from the GTT, you’re probably safe…good luck. Thanks for the list. Soft TP is definitely on my list, they use (no exaggeration here) sandpaper here! OMG about the ice pack/pads—I wish you could see my face, I’m sure my jaw dropped and my eyes bugged out a little when I read that!

Dar, what’s the Melting Pot? It sounds like melted cheese/fondue—which has been my biggest craving! Yum!

Mom2two, sorry your pregnancy isn’t going as planned—things aren’t always under our control. *hugs*

Heather, I think I might have to invest in a heating pad. Or they have these rice/bean bags that you microwave…maybe that would work, and I wouldn’t have to buy 220v stuff.

Thanks everyone for the great pictures!

About the underwear, I’ve heard here that they give you legless pantyhose, and enormous pads, like 12x18” that you fold up. Sounds really sexy, doesn’t it?!

I wonder if JennP is holding her babe?

Nothing special on the plan for today. I talked to my parents yesterday, they’re down in Florida and had a rainy day the other day so they went to the mall. Mom said she had to buy an extra suitcase to bring all the baby stuff over! Oh, and I’m having a shower on Sunday—not sure how many people will be there. I’m not very good at these types of things. I mean, I don’t feel like I have any really close friends here yet. But, it should be fun, none the less!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

PS, what was the drama in the Losing the Baby Fat thread?

Last week I promised some pictures of the nursery. It's still a little bare, but you can see the chair (Sorry, I don't know how to make the images smaller...)

OK, I see I need to clean the lens on the camera! LOL

Morning, Martha. Hello to everyone else.

Looks like your nursery is about as ready as mine. Now I don't feel so bad! Yay on a shower Sunday! Who is hosting? Mine is tomorrow, I'm so excited!

The Melting Pot is a fondue place, like you guessed.

If DH ever gets the rocker finished (he put one coat of sealant on it, but I think it needs another), I'll take pics of it and the nursery.

I had my breastfeeding class last night. Very informative.. it gave me a little more confidence I might be able to pull it off. We talked alot about latching on, differing holds, etc. One tip she had was that, starting in the last month of pregnancy, to stop using soaps or lotions on the breasts. That concerned me a little due to my skin problems, but she said that I could continue to use my cream if needed until the baby's born.

Anyways, overall pretty good. Although, she did say that if you feel like dieting during bf'ing, to use a "good diet" like WW or JC, not a "fad diet" like Atkins or SB, because baby may not get all the nutrients it needs. *sigh* Oh, well. Like my baby needs extra sugar and starch.. yep, LOTS of nutrients in there, huh girls?

Just remind me to NOT go into labor during a Yankees spring training game. Traffic was horrendous and I was late to class. (their stadium is right down the street from the hospital)

Needless to say I had dreams about bf'ing ALL night. LOL...

Woo, hooo....it's my birthday!!! I love, love, love my birthday and to make it better, DH didn't forget this year!! He woke me up early (unfortunatley) to give me my present(s). He got me 3 Tim McGraw CD's that I don't have...well, I have them burned, but not the "real" CD's and he got me the new Kenny Chesney CD too. And he signed to card from him and "Baby Bean".

Martha & Dar ~ I hope you have good showers!! And, I hope you get some good stuff!!

Martha ~ The nursery is looking good. Is the baby going to sleep on the floor??

Hey Gals.

I still feel icky from that GTT. I can't believe I threw up in the lab. So embarrasing!

Oh, and most hospitals will give you a tube of hemmroid cream (the good stuff dibucaine1%) and a small container of tucks and maybe some dermaplast to use as well as a squirt bottle to help rinse with. You just need TP to "Pat dry" with.

The ice packs are more if you have a longer pushing phase. I pushed for 3 hrs with forceps so needed the ice more.

Take whatever is in your room for you and whatever is in the baby's bassinet (except the blankets/clothes) when you leave.

Just a tip that you all might not want to know but I'm gonna tell ya anyway. After a vaginal birth, it might take a bit to have a BM. You may need some milk of mag. Choose Raisin Bran or something like that for breakfast if you can. Also, when you need to have a BM, use a sanitary pad to hold over your crotch when going. This will greatly lessen the pressure and make it easier to relax. Tip for the day. LOL!! I know TMI, but I wish people would have told me this stuff!

Have a great day everyone!!

Smiley Amy!!!

Dar - I'm glad you put up your picture in your avi.

Smiley Amy! Awesome on the u/s. Same thing happened to me. They couldn't see the heart based on the baby's position so we got to go back and she could tell right away what the sex was then!! Good luck!!!

Martha - I can't see the pictures at work, I will have to look tonight from home.

Becca - Sorry you got sick!!! Thanks for the tips, and like Darlene said - keep em coming.

The pictures is yesterday's thread were great!!! Keep those coming too!!!

for Jenn and baby!!!

I know I missed some personals from yesterday - will try to get to those later......

Didn't sleep last night again. I called my dr. for the first time with this pregnancy. I'm pretty stubborn, so for me to call is an act of desperation. The nurse took down some notes and should call back this afternoon. I was thinking sleep apnea, but now I'm not so sure...because I don't think I'm even getting to the point of sleeping. I am able to breathe through my nose....it just seems like my throat swells shut and I can't swallow, then I have to have something to drink. I told the nurse there is no way I can drive an hour to work, stay there 8 - 9 hours and drive an hour home and not get any sleep at night. I tried the humidfier, I tried sleeping upright, even tried the recliner......but nothing. She asked for the pharmacy....I told her that I wasn't looking for a prescription, but hoping these symptoms would ring a bell.....but, at this point, I might go ahead and take something.

Sorry for the multipple rants...I am miserable!

Dena, could you be suffering from some allergies? I usually don't have allergies (not since moving to FL), but they've been bothering me recently. Perhaps try some Actifed Cold & Allergy to cut down on the swelling in your throat? I was snoring really bad one night and my sinuses were all swollen. I wasn't conjested, just everything was swollen (DH had the windows open). I took some Actifed and felt alot better, and got a good night's sleep.

Hopefully the dr. will have some advice.

Hi Ladies,

I'm not a regular on this board because my dh and I are waiting until I lose a bit more weight before we start trying (hopefully this summer though).

However, I have a couple of questions and would appreciate any advice that you may have.

1) I want to get in to Onederland before TTC (I'm nearly 5'8 and 236 right now). However, since I could still be about 40-50lbs over my ideal weight, I am worried that continuing to eat well and exercising may cause me to continue to lose weight while pregnant even without trying (I lose weight easily when I am consistent about exercise). Have any of you who were plus sized prior to conceiving noticed any accidental weight loss from consistent good dietary/exercise habits and if so what does your doctor say?

2) If you were overweight before getting pregnant, what special advice (if any) did your doctor give you?

I got pregnant before once at 265 and lost it at 8 weeks so I didn't get far enough along to get any advice for the doctor at the time other than to lose weight before trying again.

Any advice would be very helpful! Thank you!!

Hi again,

Dar, one (or two) of my American friends here is hosting the shower...when she asked who I was close to, I could only come up with two names, and I'm not really even that close with them...I'm wondering if I should take a hostess gift. That's crazy about the breastfeeding diets...but typical, I guess.

Smiley, the other furniture should be here next week, if not, the week after it's coming from London, and shipped out a couple of weeks ago...

Becca, regardless of the gory details, I think we all want to hear them! I'd rather know too much!

Dena, that's really rotten about your lack of sleep. You must be going nuts! I wish there was something I could do or say to help you...Dar's allergy idea sounds like a good idea. I put the photos at geocities--sometimes you only get a limited number of views...maybe I should upload them somewhere else?

Well, here's wishing everyone a great weekend! (it's a blizzard here, AGAIN! will spring ever come?!)

It might be TMI, but definitely useful information. It wasn't so bad this last time, but after my 9 yo DD, I was dreading having a BM. Especially since I had a big ol' episiotomy w/stitches.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY!!!

DENA - I've never heard of that, but I sure hope they're able to help you. You NEED the sleep more than ever right now!

DAR - I thought SB would be the perfect nursing diet... It's not totally low fat or low carb... It just focuses on the healthy fats and carbs... Some people just assume it's LC, and there is such a stigma on that. UGH.

BECCA - Sorry you got sick. I'm sure they're used to it though.

MARTHA - Dang! I can't see the pictures!

Oh, and the drama on the Losin' the Baby Fat thread... Just a debate that got heated... All moms have different ways of caring for their babies, and some of us were feeling a little attacked by another mom with some very strong views. All in all it ended up okay... We all kissed and made up, and nobody left. We just had to reiterate that we were there for weight loss support, and that nobody needs to criticize what anyone else does as a mother. No biggie in the end.

I was 235, low carbed, got to 220 (I'm 5'4) and got pregnant..... had a miscarriage at ten weeks....got pregnant two months later, still at 220. I'm 32 weeks and at 246.

My doctor's advice....don't "try" to lose weight while pregnant. She said she wasn't going to pressure me about my weight since my vitals were good and I was "healthy" even though overweight.

She said her mother's doctor told her that women shouldn't gain more than 30 pounds while pregnant (this was 35 years ago)...she said her mother starved herself and as a result, she (my doctor) was born underweight. She decided when she was a doctor, she wouldn't do that to her patients.

She said that she can tell if the baby is growing and getting what it needs, so she wouldn't ride me about my weight....unless my vitals threw up any flags and my health was in danger.

Daisy! I don't have any tips to offer.. I've done nothing but gain, but I had also lost quite a bit of weight before becoming pg. There are some girls on here who have done nothing but lost, and I'm sure they could be a big help!

Martha, I'm bringing Dani a thank you gift, as well as small gifts for the two girls that own the tea shop. The tea shop is not officially open, so even though Dani is paying for food, they legally cannot make any revenue and are doing this as a favor since they are friends. I got Dani a cute colorful handbag she can use on her trip to Hawaii, plus a kitty bookmark and GC to Barnes & Noble for her to get some books for the trip. (and for her birthday today I got her a "Fom" - it's a squishy pillow they sell at Brookstone - for her to use on their flight) I got the other two girls some Yankee Candle votives with votive holders.

Jenn, I agree that I think there's just a stigma out there. You say SB or Atkins, and immediately a red flag goes up. You tell someone you're on a low sugar/refined starches diet, and it confuses the heck out of them and they just stupidly nod along. Anyways, as with anything out there.. you take away what you can use, and file the rest away. Overall, I learned alot.

Hi Daisy,

I am 19 weeks today and started off around 5'7" & 248lbs. My doctor isn't concerned. She did say they didn't want me to gain as much weight, but said if I didn't gain anything or lost a bit, that was fine as long as I wasn't trying to lose. I have lost 7lbs since getting pregnant and they are fine with that. If you already have an OB/GYN, maybe you could set up a meeting to see what they think about you becoming pregnant at the weight you are??? Just a thought. But good luck either way!

Thanks Dar and GoJackets. I look forward to hitting 199 and getting myself on the TTC list. I just turned 32 last Thursday so my biological clock, it is a ticking!

I have two friends that recently had babies and they both started out bigger than I am now. Both babies came out just fine and are very healthy. However, both women ended up having their gallbladders removed about six months after giving birth. I think it is because their diets were so full of junk food before, during, and after pregnancy. It is a good incentive to eat healthfully, that's for sure.

Thanks Amy. I do need to find a good OB/GYN in advance of getting pregnant this time. I mean, the last doctor I went to told me that the ultrasound showed no baby in the sac (I miscarried naturally a couple of weeks later) and that I should lose 80-100 lbs before evening "thinking" about getting pregnant again. He literally looked at me like I was crazy for getting pregnant while being overweight. Quite a jerk. However, that jerk did make me mad enough to start LCing so I guess it was a blessing in one way.

I have to open the photo, right click on it to get Properties, then copy and paste the URL using the "IMG" button while posting. Not super easy, but not too bad. It's usually sized perfectly, too.

Daisy...sorry your last doctor was a jerk. When I first went to my doctor, I was kinda nervous about what they would say about my weight. I was pleasantly surprised that they were okay with it. They said at times there are higher risks with being overweight, but you can still have a healthy baby and pregnancy with the extra weight. And they have been great since! Just find yourself a good doctor!

Amy! So glad your husband remembered! That is good news about the 2nd ultrasound too. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Martha, sounds like it will be interesting giving birth over there!

I keep going back and forth over having a baby shower. One of my friends has offered. I think the silly games are putting me off.

Darlene, I'm not on Atkins but wouldn't the Maintenance phase be ok during BF? I mean, didn't Dr. Atkins recommend that?

Becca, I agree with everyone else, please keep the tips coming. By the way, what sort of things do you get for the baby? Like nasal aspirator etc..

GoJ, I hope your doc has some advice so you can get some rest. What a commute you have everyday!

Oh, I love the chair and the wood floors, MARTHA!!!

About weight gain... When I was pregnant with Allison (now this was 9 1/2 years ago...), I was 180 and 5'7"... The doc told me I wasn't allowed to gain more than 20 pounds, because women over 200 had problems delivering vaginally, and there was more risk of infection during a c-section... Well... I SHOWED HIM! I gained 57 pounds... LOL! Funny thing is, he didn't say anything after that.
