Kim, Megan is so beautiful thanks for sharing the new pics of her!!
Amy sorry your little guy or girl did not show the goods, when did you eat the Twix?? I say go with having your mom pay for another u/s when she is in town. Just Google 3D u/s and the name of the nearest metro area to you, the Babies R Us by us had booklets on the local 3D places. Hello to everyone else......feel bad that I am not giving you all the attention you deserve. Unfortunately i am beat, but very relaxed from a massage that i treated myself to tonight. So I am off to bed. I will catch up with everyone this weekend. Wanted to share pic's that I got today of Payton. What a ham... ![]() wrinkling his brow ![]() smiling and showing his chubby cheeks ![]() trying to find his hand ![]() found it!! xoxo Chelsea *Pregnant with Our First* It's a Boy!! Where is everyone today???
Chels-great pics, they kinda freak me out at first because I'm used to the regular ultrasounds! Once I got over that they are pretty cool!!! You can see so well what he looks like! BrattyChells-Hey girl!! VixenAmy-I understand your point of view, but saying you cannot "have a healthy pregnancy" if you go to a hospital is untrue. I had 2 kids at a hospital and had a "healthy" pregnancy and labor with each. I had the intervention of forceps with the first after 22 hrs of labor and 3 hrs of pushing because he was face up and couldn't get his big head under my pelvic bone. When you have a baby in a hospital, they don't "push" you into things. That is why you write a birth plan and educate yourself before you go in. I understand your take but just think maybe you made too much of a blanket statement against hospitals instead of just a positive statement about your choices. No hard feelings either, we ALL have opinions. To all that follow, hope you are having a nice, painfree, relaxing weekend wiith no icky pregnancy symptoms! Those that are TTC hope you are having fun trying this weekend!! Those ready for labor...here is some labor fairy dust...sprinkle it on your belly!!

CHELS - Peyton's a looker already!!! AWWW!!!
About the whole hospital v. homebirth/birth center thing. I don't think that you can't have a healthy pregnancy and/or birth in a hospital, but they do a lot more intervening than I prefer. For example, the doc had me induced with Allison, because he thought she was getting too big. Nevermind that my pelvis is fine for having a larger baby. He was also going to be on vacation when my due date came around, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. If I had known what I know now, I wouldn't have let them induce... It was much more painful, and I've since heard that babies have a higher incidence of colic when the mother is induced. Allison was a colicky baby. Poor thing. Either way... I think mother's should do whatever they think is best. Just make sure that, wherever you deliver, you have a birth plan. You don't want to be wrangled into something that you wouldn't have agreed to otherwise. HI BECCA! Everything's going okay here... I'm just a little depressed. I chose not to go with DH to the In Laws' house for the weekend. I wanted to, but I don't want anyone seeing me. I know that sounds stupid, but I'm just down lately. And I'm missing my kiddoes and DH already.

Hi, girls...
Not going to post much since I'm pretty pooped right now. We took Caena to compete in her first frisbee competition, and DH was 1/2 a point away from tieing for third place! It was lots of fun, very relaxed, and the weather could not have been more beautiful (clear blue sky, 70 degrees, slight breeze). The cool thing was that afterwards, they had a baby shower planned for one of their established members. We just joined today, but they even had a card with a Target GC just for us! I thought it was very sweet. I have a little dilemma regarding my shower. A friend has replied that she'd like to attend, but that since her DH will be out of town, she'd like to bring her 9 yo son. He's a very good boy, but Dani (who's hosting) is paying for food by person. So, she's not really comfortable with paying for him. I'm not sure how to handle this. |

Dar, can I ask why Dani wouldn't pay for DS and she would pay for DH? Is it catered? Do they count kids?? Not sure what her issue is. Are you okay with him coming? If so, I would pay for him. Will there be any other kids there?

Just posting a quickie while baby is napping. I had my first outing without the baby along today...missed her very, very much.
My soon to be 12 year old daughter placed first place in her schools science fair project. So, today we had to go to the Metro science fair where she placed 2nd in her grade!!! I'm so proud of her!!! Her 12th b-day is next week so I went ahead and got her birthday present. She's into butterflies right now. So, I got her a pair of cubic zirconia butterfly earrings and the movie Raise Your Voice with Hillary Duff. She's going to love it. And the gift bag I bought her is shaped like a purse and it velcros shut...just her style!! Can't wait to see her face. With the arrival of little Megan, Lacey's father is handling the whole birthday thing...which has taken so much off me right now. In addition to family members he even let her invite some friends from school which I intend to have meet at my house and just ride with us to the party. While we were at the science fair (which was held at the mall) we went to the baby store and Lacey picked out an outfit for little Megan to wear to her b-day party. We're having problems finding clothes to fit her...since she's technically a premie and the 0-3 months just swallow her up. I found what was called premie clothes at Target the other day...but even then the little pants just fell right off her. The store we went to had premie clothes that fit up to 7 pounds so we got her b-day outfit and a little pink onsie that had a little elephant on it. And the onsie fit perfectly!!! I was gone from the house a total of 4 hours...but it seemed like forever!!! Next week at Lacey's b-day party will be Megan's first "official" outing other than to the doctor's office. Chelsea...what wonderful pics!!! I wish I had done the 3-D ultrasound...it's sooo clear. Kim ETA: I had my 1 week check up yesterday and have already dropped 24 of my 34 pounds gained during pregnancy!!! Only 10 more pounds to go!!! Also, after the science fair my daughter and I ate lunch. The cashier asked if she was my little sister!!!! I hope it was a compliment!!

Greetings everyone...
Amy, I totally feel your frustration! The exact same thing happened to me. A trip to the private U/S studio is probably your best bet. That's what we did. We had to drive 1.5 hours each way and pay $80 but it was well worth it. The tech was great. Very patient and thorough and she wouldn't tell us what it was until she was totally sure and could point to the "goods" clearly on the screen. I would do it again in a second. My doctor had said we could go back for another u/s but insurance wouldn't pay for it. I checked the regular place prices and just gender determination was going to be around $400!! Not much going on here today. Going to try to clean and organize our room a little bit. It's getting mighty cluttered to say the least. We'll see how far I get. Lately every little effort makes me soooo tired. And on the weekends I feel like I'm back in college and can sleep until someone forces me to get up. Yesterday I got up at 11am and today 9:30am! This is totally pathetic because I was in bed by midnight both nights! I don't even recall being this wiped out first trimester. *sigh* I hope everyone is doing well. ![]() Meg

Happy weekend, girls!
Chelsea, cool pics. I googled to find the 3D u/s places near us and there is one not too far from here. It sounds like you should be at least 22 weeks. So, I am going to have to be patient! It is kind of expensive too. It ranges from $150 for a 2D session all the way up to $295 for the "Platinum Plus 4D Package", which includes two 4D visits. I have a question for all of you who have been moms before. I think I should get us registered somewhere because I am already getting gifts from people. What would you consider your top 5-10 most important things to have for your baby? I'm thinking like: car seat, diaper genie, etc. Also, any specific products that you find to be especially valuable, such as the "Boppy Pillow"? Any recommendations on the best place to register?

Things I consider most important to have for the baby:
*clothes of course *diapers (cloth or disposable, whichever you prefer) *diaper wipes *bottles (even if breastfeeding it's a good idea to have 1 or 2 stashed away just in case you can't be there) *car seat *stroller *something for the baby to sleep in (crib, bassinet, pack-n-play, whatever) *swing and/or bouncer - not REQUIRED, but my DD loved hers so much I can't imagine not having one Things I personally consider a waste * diaper genie * boppy * wipe warmer Last edited by vixendrop : 03-06-2005 at 04:07 PM. |

As a mom with a 2 1/2 month old....I completely agree with vixendrop's recommendations. The rest can wait....focus on the basics that you absolutely need the first few weeks because either you won't feel up to going out...or you won't want to take your newborn out with you to get it.

I wish I'd have already had my boppy pillow when I brought my daughter home. I propped pillows all sorts of ways but they shifted, squished, or just were too soft to support her to make nursing simple. I wanted to get her in position quickly and latched on rather than arranging pillows and /then/ getting her on. I sent my DH out for a boppy on day 4 after she was born. It made things easier for me. One pillow, very firm, easy to get her set and positioned in a way that made nursing easier on the both of us. This time I'll have it from the start....

Hi Ladies,
~Chelsea - great pictures I'm unable to get a 3D, the nearest one is about 3-4 hours away LOL.~gilbabe - nicely put. ~Jefinner - Sorry you're feeling down. I'm sure you're absolutely glowing even if you don't feel like it . Hang in there.~Dar - I'm glad everything seems to have resolved itself. I'm always amazed at how big of a deal people make out of kids coming to a baby shower. It's to celebrate another baby!!! LOL ~Kim - Woohoo Lacey! Sounds like you had a nice time, how did Megan do while you were away? Congrats on the fast weightloss .~Meg - Lucky you for getting to sleep in. Even when Dh gets up with ds I can still here them out there. Did you get any of the straightening up done you wanted to? ~Ketosisgirl - I also could not live without my Boppy! If you have large breasts like I do it will be a Godsend. I actually ended up getting two and keeping one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom. I also took it everywhere I went until ds was older and bigger. For ME... carseat bed of some sort (I had a cradle) diapers/wipes/lotion sleepers Snap and Go - we used this constantly. It was SO much easier then carrying the infant seat around. When we weren't going anywhere we brought it into the house. I'd have a place to set him say in the kitchen while I made dinner or when I was afraid to leave him (because of the cats) I'd put him in it while I showered etc. If you go to http://www.babiesrus.com and click on registry, there is a link for a list of items you MAY need. HTH ~BrattyChelle - I still can't believe it but dh dragged me out to Walmart when ds was only 1 week old to get film developed and this was after a c/s! I can still remember feeling like I was going to die in line and thinking what the hell am I doing here?!?!!?!?!? ~acutepenguin - Me too on the Boppy. ~Shelley - You look great!!! I've been wondering where you've been. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Nothing major here. Alli |

Thanks for the responses everyone! It sounds like the consensus is that you just really need the basics.
Alli, I have large breasts too. so I might be a good candidate for a Boppy Pillow. I'll have to check out the Snap and Go. It sounds great. I just watched the episode of "A Baby Story" where the pastor & his wife had a water birth. OMG, I balled my eyes out, she looked like she was in so much pain! Yikes!!! We were considering a water birth, but I am rethinking this. Maybe epidurals are the way to go. |

Hello ladies.
I hope that you all had a nice weekend. It was so nice here today --62 and sunny. Spring is right around the corner. Chels-Those pics are so neat. DH was sort of creeped out by them. Jefinner-- I hope you had a nice weekend and didn't miss DH too much. Dar--Sounds like spring is in the air for you too! Enjoy that Target gift card! Gigi--Sleeping in sounds nice. I always want to sleep in on the weekends, but our cats demand to be fed around 7am. They let us sleep until 8am this morning. thanks to everyone for the suggestions on the essentials. We still have along way to go before that! Okay, will tomorrow's thread starter please add me to TRYING . DH and I have decided that we are not going to use condoms anymore. I seriously doubt anything will happen in the near future since it has taken a while for me to get my period back after going off the pill in the past.Louise |

Hi everyone, just checking in real quick.
My glucose screening is in the morning. It's sort of giving me the kick in the pants I need to get back to eating better. That's why I started posting here, I got off track with 1st trimester quesiness and 2nd trimester cravings! I wasn't on Atkins but I did follow his thoughts on clean eating. I wish there were not girl scouts selling cookies all over town! I taped In the Womb and will probably watch it tomorrow. Hope you are all well! |
