Good morning ladies!

Congratulations Shandril! How exciting! Glad everything went well.

I guess I'm pretty prepared, just wish I could have gotten a few things we really needed off of the register. (Hope I don't sound too un-grateful...)
You sound like me after my wedding shower. To put all that work into a registery and not get hardly anything on it was aggrevating to say the least! People are gonna get what they want to get and many times it is "re-gifting" just to get rid of something they got stuck with. I'm not wasting my time doing that for a baby shower. Since my shower will be after the baby comes I'm hoping people will use common sense and give us larger clothes and gift certificates to places we can buy things like diapers, bottles, baby proofing items, etc and assume we already have everything for a newborn. But it never ceases to amaze me at the lack of commen sense of some people. Ok, sorry that turned into a rant....maybe I'm the un-grateful one, because I'd rather get the stuff myself instead of having to take everything back or get stuck with stuff we can't use. It's a lot less of a hassle.

Boy, am I tired tonight! I don't know why either. Hopefully, I don't crash on the couch tonight and not get to sleep tomorrow since I have to work tomorrow night. Better try and keep myself busy.

Everyone have a great day!

WELCOME Elizabeth !! Shandril sounds to me like you had the ideal labor, hope that it goes as smoothly for me. Thought it was funny that you had her on the 10th because i remember talking about the pool at work and the earliest guess was the 10th and i was hoping you had her sooner so that you got the pool $$.

Ames ~ You are not un-grateful at all, I call those people "socially retarded" and there are WAY to many out there!! I try to put allot of thought into every gift I give, and I guess I at least expect a little bit of thought....

JennP ~ Wow you have been a busy girl, I didn’t know that you worked in that line of work. It must be very rewarding!! WooHoo on NO stretch marks!!

Kelley ~ Sounds like you have been a busy little bee!! Think you have entered the nesting phase!! Cant wait to see pics of the room!! Cute blanket, I love getting ideas from Posh Tots, think I am going to get a tropical fish rug they have there.

Dar ~ Have a nice mini trip, although it sounds like you don’t want to go. Just don’t forget your body pillow at the hotel this time!!

Martha ~ Thoughts and prayers going out for your friends, hope you hear from them soon.

Dierdre ~ I always try to look at everything in the positive. Just think of all the fun you will have when you return a bunch of that stuff & get to pick out what you want/need with your store credit!! Hope you have a good Dr. appt!!

When was the last time Viki posted??

I am SO frustrated, was looking in to signing up for birth classes although I was not sure if I wanted to go, it costs $90 and I am sure not much has changed since I went with my mom. Well ALL the days and hrs that they offer it David has to work. So I looked at just doing the Birth Center tour, same thing. Went to schedule our mid pregnancy class (they have 3 early, mid & late that they like you to go to) and what do you know. Not sure what to do now. Well off to read a bit before David gets home, I am so loving him being on Swing shift (2pm to midnight) He was on graves over a year (9pm to 7am) he is still trying to adjust to the new hrs. Will check in later today!!

xoxo Chelsea

I sent her a pm the other day and she hasn't read it yet. Hope she checks in with us soon...her c-section is only a few days away if she already hasn't had the baby. Boy I feel like a spy trying to keep up with the girls that stray away.

Ames - you are at the end of your pregnancy, rant away! And thank you for keepping up with everyone!

Martha - Glad you are back......from what I have read with regard to the hip pain, they said the same thing you did.....just keep your legs closed as much as possible.....swing both feet when getting out of a car, sit down to put on your undies and pants, minimize activity....I've been following those guidelines for two days now and can tell a difference already. It's more of an ache than a severe pain....I'm still getting the "popping" noises in bed when I move, but I'm not hurting as bad.

Chelsea - I bet the good thing about those ab muscles is that your belly will pop back into place after your little one gets here! I haven't even looked at birthing classes yet. I asked my doctor about them and she said we would look into it in a few more weeks. I'm not even sure where they offer them....need to start making lists.

Jenn - Hey Girl! I missed you! I can't imagine how busy you have been! Your organization says it's international, but does it assist with US disasters as well? Sounds like interesting work! Keep us posted on the ultrasound and rest when you can.

Kelley - Can't wait to see the pictures!

I've got my old stretch marks from being heavier.....I'm just filling those back out...no new ones (yet).

Darlene - cute story the other day about DH....they make this whole experience "interesting" to say the least. DH is going through the "being left out" phase. He won't believe this is real until he finally feels the baby. We tried last night....the baby was kicking up a storm, but he couldn't feel it yet. I guess between the placenta and huge layer of fat, it is going to take a little longer.

I told DH I look like Homer Simpson....we both look like we are carrying an inner tube in our pants.....round in the front and round in the back.

Shandril105 - How exciting, Elizabeth is here. You sound wonderful! Can't wait for pictures!!!

Nyanchan - you are so close too! How exciting!

Hello to the other ladies coming in!

As far as showers....I'm not sure how I feel about them....I try to keep things simple....most people I know live near a Target, so we will do the bulk of our registering there. I'm not worried abut what we get....they make is so easy to exchange stuff these days. Retailers know how that registry thing goes....plus, since we don't know what we are having, it is very unlikely we will end up with any "older" baby clothes....mostly just the onesies like you ladies were referring to. A good thing about registering is that you are making a list for yourself. There is so much on our minds....it would be nice to take all the extra stuff back in exchange for credit and just go pull what is on your list instead of trying to remember for ourselves.....I guess I am old school when it comes to showers....as I have mentioned before.....I'm not good at getting gifts, and I hate all of the attention....but most of the people I know are more experienced at this than I am, and I will probably end up with some interesting things. Most of our showers will be given by "older" ladies so it is highly likely they won't be using a registry either. Like I said, it will be interesting to see what others come up with.

Hi everyone

I feel for you guys getting things you didn't want. I'm all for regeristing for everything, even your birthday! We always get so much stuff we don't want, why not streamline it a little? I did register for a few things in the US, but no one has used it. I've really only recieved stuff from my parents, but I'd really perfer not to have a bunch of fru-fru, cutsey baby clothes...you know, cartoons and such. Well, now I have some...I've not always used the registry, but I go and look and get a sense for the persons style or desires.

Nothing new here, midwife appointment this afternoon...not sure what she'll do, probably prick my finger and measure my tummy. I can't seem to shake the jet lag, the first day back we made the mistake of sleeping from 9am-2pm here, and I just can't get back on track. Last night I did get to bed at 10:30, but was awake from 2-4 and took a nap from 11-1...and I just feel groggy all the time. Sorry for moaning on...

We just got our childbirth class schedule, its only 4 classes in Feb...and costs over $250...but choices are limited in English. I really wish I could find a Bradley class, but doesn't seem like they're here. We're also looking for a hypnobirthing class or coach as well.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi guys,

Just a drive by wave this morning, hope everyone is doing well!

Went for bloodwork yesterday and did the 1 hour glucose test. YUCK! I'm still a little annoyed they wanted to do it early on me because of my weight. I've never had abnormal blood sugars and I like to think I'm an expert at keeping my blood sugar even keel by low carbing at maintenance levels. Sheesh! Well, I guess better safe than sorry and they had to take blood anyway yesterday for some other junk. OH, and the phlebotomist was not great, she had to stab me twice. Have I mentioned lately that I hate blood tests?

CONGRATULATIONS SHANDRIL!!! Welcome Elizabeth!!!

Dena: ROFL on the Homer Simpson comments -- that's about what I feel like lately too!

Back to the saltmines... I'll try to pop back in later for more personals.

Meg

Once you pass this one, will they make you do it again later on?

Oh, and I meant to ask everyone.....are any of you taking additional supplements?

DH is keeping up with this pregnancy by reading....and now he is on the Omega 3 kick wanting me to take fish oil supplements.

I'm faithful with my prenatal....not sure if I want to start taking other things.....how about you ladies? Any additional supplements? If so, then what? TIA!!

My husband did the same thing half way through the pregnancy. I did a little research and decided it wasn't worth it. You have to make sure you get them from a reputable source, because fish oil goes rancid very quickly and also you have to make sure it is cholesterol free or you may be ingesting all the contaminates including mercury from the fish. Also, on a few products I read warnings about not taking any several weeks before your due date, because it can cause your blood to be thinner and if you have to have a c-section it could cause blood-clotting problems.

As for other supplements, I've been drinking at least 1 cup of red-raspberry leaf tea as it is supposed to help strenghen your uterus. Once I get past the 38 week mark I'm gonna try to push for 3 cups a day as more can cause uterine contractions....which is what I'll want soon. I've also been trying to eat a few cups of yogurt a day to improve my flora and help minimize the group B strep bacteria in my vagina, but I haven't been too successful, so I think that I'm going to take some probiotics starting today for the last several weeks. I know they're safe, because I asked my OB about them early in my pregnancy. I can actually insert them in my vagina to be more effective, but I'd have to buy the really expensive ones, so I think I'll just take them orally...I'm getting the antibiotics anyway, so I'm sure I'll be fine. Otherwise, no other supplements except my prenatal.

That is funny! My DH wanted me to take fish oil supplements too...but that was early on when I was barfing all the time from morning sickness. Those fish oil capsules were fing going down, but then I would belch for hours and it was like cat food fish breath...sorry if TMI... but it was a REALLY bad idea. I humored him for about three days, then gave up.

Ames and Martha~I registered online at Babies R Us, because the actual store is so huge it scares me...and nobody has bought anything from my registry yet! My shower is coming up in two weekends. I, too, spent a lot of time researching what I wanted, and only registered for about 20 things, none of them big-ticket items. I think you're right, people just get what they want to get anyway. My cousin ended up with about 5 identical "bathtime" kits, which she had not registered for. Also, I HATE the smell of baby powder, but I like the new scents of it. I just know I'll wind up with vats of traditional baby powder.

Meg~That is early to test for GD. I guess it's only annoying if they make you re-test later. That orange soda crap is gross! Hope you do great on it!

Chels~Yay on your hubby's new schedule! For the classes, I think the tour would be good, but also your DH should probably see a video or two...it really helped my DH. WOuld he read a birthing book if he had to? My DH would say "thanks", then put it in a pile and never pick it up again. The classes are sooooo sllloooowwww...

Dierdre~ You and Viki are NEXT!

Can't wait to see pics if Elizabeth!

Well, my Dad came and painted the baby's room yesterday! It's all done! Now I really have to start sewing. I set up the changing table, and got the rocking chair in there. DH will get to set up the crib...looks lika a P.I.T.A. In a way I feel relieved that her room is getting close to finished, but I also feel this unexplainable apprehension...like if something goes wrong it will be that much more terrible to have the room all ready. Does this make sense? I am really freaking out a lot lately these past couple of weeks. I was so calm before.

Kelley

LOL @ the fish oils....YUCKY tasting stuff those are on the "rebound".

chells_hoff....have you looked into independent classes? We did that with our son due to my ex's work schedule and it was nice as we learned everything on a full Saturday and it was much cheaper than the hospitals.

to everyone, sounds like you're doing well!

I'm just doing a drop in to let ya'll know that Elana has turned into a lil piggy girl!! Last week at the docs she weighed 7 lbs 10 oz., well today she weights 9 pounds even!! OMG what is in that formula?!?! Doc was fine with it as they see her as still "catching up" but it's like she's already growing up too fast!

Hope ya'll have a great day!

I think that is why I have been avoiding even working on the room.....just paranoia....although the baby has a slight chance of survival if something strange happened. I'm just not ready for any of this yet.

But then, I'm afraid I will wait too long, the baby will come, and nothing will be ready!!!

You are going to be fine.....I didn't realize how close it was getting for you!

No, I don't take any extra suppliments. I do eat salmon every week and a half or so, I love grilled salmon and hate that I have to limit it right now.

Kelley, Don't worry yourself, your baby will be fine! Now if it were 100 years ago, that would be a different story.....but even if something does go wrong, these pediatric doctors know what they're doing. As for getting the room done, IMO, the changing table is the most important thing and you've got that set up! You probably won't use the crib until she is at least 6 weeks, I'm all about using the moses basket until they out grow them! So I'm not even going to bother setting my crib up until the baby is ready for it. I was really contemplating even putting it up at all since I do a "family bed" but the crib comes in handy for naps and I also use it as a play pin.

Michelle-Wow, she is getting big!

Thanks for your input. I forgot to thank you other ladies too for the great information!!! I think I will probably not take them.....especially if you can taste them.

I may just eat fish once a week instead. Kind of a compromise!

Thanks Michelle, Dena, and Heather. I guess I just feel like I should "know" or that I'm responsible now if something goes wrong..like it will be my fault instead of out of my control if something had happened earlier. It's good to know this is "normal" for us crazy preggos!

So I'm not even going to bother setting my crib up until the baby is ready for it.
I didn't register for s moses basket or a side-car sleeper...should I?

Depends on what you are going to do with your little one the first few weeks I guess?

I've heard mixed reviews about the co-sleeper (if that is the same thing as the sidde-car sleeper)....I guess potentially, your baby can get stuck in the gap created by the sleeper and the bed.

We are buying one of those playpen things that has the temporary bassinet on top (I think up to 15 or 22 pounds). Hopefully, the baby will be in its crib by then.

Oh well.....does it really matter at this point since most agree that they aren't going to get what is on their registry anyway!!?

The moses basket is basically the same as a bassinet. (I got 3 bassinets at my shower and I already had bought my basket!) You can find a bassinet a lot cheaper than a moses basket. You can get a bassinet for $30 and up whereas the baskets are $100 and up (for a good one) I just love it because I can carry it from room to room. And I can also travel with it when we spend the night somewhere out of town.

Great. The doctors office just called and they want me to come back to do a 3 hour glucose test. I told them I'd come in Friday morning.

I'm so dreading this test....mine is in two weeks and I just know it's not going to be good.....Diabetes runs in my family, plus I'm overweight.........I will be very surprised if I get past the one hour test.

ETA - I like the idea about being able to tote the baby in the Moses basket....there are a bunch on eBay.

Morning ladies!

Well, we are doing good this morning. All I can say is that if you avoid an episiotomy. DO IT!!!!!!!!!! I had to go potty this morning, and it was good. Not like the hell I endured with my 1st little one. It was torture to potty for a month afterwards. Tear. I don't care if they do tell you that it is easier for the episitomy to be stitched and heal. Unless you are super tight and are at risk for a tear greater than 2nd degreee, forgo it. You will NEVER regret it! I already feel great enough to venture out. I'm already getting cabin fever.

I have also gotten off to a great breastfeeding start. Milk is in and Elizabeth has all the makings of a good little piggy now that she has had a taste of something other than colostrum. And I am showing all the signs of being a Holstein again. (I am going to need to pump just to keep from engorging, even with nursing)

Ames: Nothing beats a good rant some days. Get some rest, the fatigue doesn't get any better.

Martha: Good luck with the appts!

Heather123: Best of luck with the long glucose test. I don't envy you that endurance trial.

Ewwww, fish and fish oil! Until they can make that stuff scent and taste free, I won't even take the capsules!

Chels: Yep The 10th means that Carol at work won the pool. I will never hear the end of it.
I had a much better better labor than I had thought I would. It was longer than the first but still short. The only grrrr I had was with my delivery nurse, because she was such a slow responder.

GoJackets: If this is your first baby, be really glad for the baby shower. I got things the first time, I never dreamed I'd need that the older ladies took care of, not to mention I am so set for this little one terms of basics. I got away this time without a baby shower, or so I thought. My friend Heather infrmed me that I ruied their plans for a "suprise" shower at work. I had told eeryone for the longest time not to bother because I had most everything, not that I thought they would listen though!

Shandril - Wow! Sounds like you had such a good epxerience....I'm envious! Any advice for us looking back now? Your bathroom experience sounds like heaven to me! I'm so terrified of being cut down there!!!

I will be extremely grateful for whatever we receive, afterall, these are gifts and people are taking their time and money to give to our new little one.....this is the first baby and there are about 5 showers going to be planned. I'm just the type who is uncomfortable opening stuff in front of people. I'm very interested in seeing what we end up with since we are only registering at Target, and we don't know the sex of the baby. it should be fun!

So when do we get to see a picture?
