Hi ladies. Sorry I don't feel like typing much tonight...I just feel lazy.

The tour went fast (15 minutes) and both my husband and I were impressed. Since I have signed up for a possible water birth I will actually get one of the bigger rooms....and the regular rooms that we got to see on the tour are huge to begin with! They got huge tubs in all the rooms too! The nice thing is that I get to labor, deliever and stay postpardom all in the same room. My husband and I are both feeling good about the switch.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Ames

I'm so glad it all went well for you! It sounds like a really nice place! We tour our possible hospital (since out insurance doesn't cover the birth center itself) on Saturday... I hope it's as nice, but I'm not holding my breath ~shrugs~

I found the book that first convinced me to pursue a midwife and birth center birth... i've been looking for it since I became pregnant again... I want to show DH some of the stuff they talk about... it's very eye opening! It's called Birth Your Way by Sheila Kitzinger. If you have any reservations about a hospital and/or OB birth I highly recommend it.

Ames ~ Lazy is good!! Glad your tour went well, still jealous that you may have a water birth that would be SO cool!!

Kelley ~ I think I have that dress that you are talking about from VS. Actually have a few of those and there tank tops with the built in bras. They are very comfy, never thought about wearing it to deliver. Glad you liked the mobile, I ran across this quilt set. I know like me you where planning on making yours but the price cant be beat. I thought is was cute but may be the wrong colors. http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....ROD_ID=1090044

Dar ~ Thanks for the bottle info. I have found that some days I have more of an appetite but cant eat very much even if I wanted to. Sorry your net was down at work yesterday

Michelle ~ How did Elana's Dr. appt go?? A big Woo Hoo to you for almost being at your pre PG weight!! Ick on the staple how creepy to find it!!

Dena ~ I cant believe that your mom has not slipped yet. I only hid it from my mom for 3 days and almost slipped a couple times!!

Alli ~ Hello !! When is your next appt?? Do you know when you are going to have your next u/s??

Vixen ~ Sorry to here that the "good foods" make you quezzy. Had my first run in with a food aversion tonight. The thing that sucks that is is something I eat all the time in the spring/summer. I made myself a nice little plate of prosuttio, mozzarella, tomatoes & peperchinis drizzled with olive oil & balsamic. When I went to eat the second piece I gagged.

Meg ~ Your prince will be home in less then two days... can her highness hold out till then?? You are very lucky to have such a sweet husband!!

Shandril ~ That sound like a neat chain, wonder if we have anything like that around the Bay Area?? Hey if you have the baby before the 10th do you get the $$, I think it would only be fair!!

Aedie ~ Sounds like you are going to be a busy girl!! Did you see my reply to you on Mondays thread?? I see that you are a fellow night owl too!!

Kristee ~ Would love to here your birth story!!

Penguin ~ Why did he pick 8 months?? If I was going to peek before I would do it sooner for the baby showers & the room, but that just me!!

Wendy ~ cute pic is that from Picture People??

Dierdre ~ You are getting so close to your due date!!

Amy (smiley) ~ Yes you are helping people out, doesn't it feel good??!! At 9 weeks I would just tell people I was 2 1/2 when they asked, it seems easier to tell them in wholes and half's.

Jen ~ Murphy is SO cute, love the outfit!! Looks like he will be able to wear it for a long time!!

Sarah ~ Hello how is Tanner doing??

Not much going on here its still cold and still raining.... Blechh!!! Bought some hangers and and an outfit for Payton today. My mom is still trying to convince me to do the room in Tiger. Think I am going to tell her that it wouldn’t be fair since tiger is my thing, and he is his own person. My best friend is going to stay the night Friday and Saturday night. So I have to make what will be Payton's room habitable for her to sleep in. Didn’t think of that when I pulled EVERYTHING out of the very large closet. She has drill (Army Reserve) about 15 min from my house and she lives and hour in the other direction. We will see how that goes, she is a very self absorbed person. Just hope she does not bring her husband with her, cant stand the man. Well I am off to bed see you guys in the afternoon!!

xoxo Chelsea

Jen! I love it! I can't wait to show DH. My girlfriend at work bought me the same outfit. I showed it to her, and she had a fit! We can't wait to see our Little Jacket in some of his/her Tech outfits!!

Murphy is adorable! What does DH think of life with the little one?

Ames - Glad you are feeling good.....I'm far from feeling good about birthing.....still in that freaked out stage.

Good Morning Vixendrop!

Chelsea - sounds like you are on the ball.....we have yet to do anything! We visited a couple of furniture stores last week and are going back this weekend. We wanted to at least knock out a crib, rocker and changing table. Not sure when we will register.

Kristee - bring on the birth story (although my knees are shaking).

Good morning to the rest that come in! I will try to stay on top of personals today!

How is the sleeping thing going for you ladies? I know they recommend positions, but is that for the third trimester? I keep ending up on my back at night because it is the most comfortable. Does it matter right now? I'm not really uncomfortable in any position. If I am on my stomach, it's kind of at an angle. I can't lie (lay) flat any more. I know I read about the pressure/hemrhoid/bladder stuff being on your back....but they didn't know about this stuff 100 years ago did they?

DH's grandmother just cracks up over the "rules" I read to her.

CVS isn't a blood test... I think you're thinking of AFP which is a blood test. CVS stands for chorianic villus sampling.
Whoops.. duh.. silly me. All those silly tests, it's hard to keep them straight! LOL... Sorry, Amy! Didn't mean to confuse you.

Not much to discuss for me yet today. I'll check in later!

Oh, I see how it is....you must not sleep (see above)!

Just kidding! Good morning!

I never opted to take the test. My doctor is biased. She has three children, and took the test with one of them that came back with bad results. Of course the child was fine, so she doesn't like them. She said you got a 50-50 shot of a false reading.....the same thing happened to my cousin. She thought her baby had DS and it was fine.

I figured I have enough to worry about as it is. It would be nice to know if there is something wrong with my baby....but we wouldn't make any decisions until it gets here. I'm hoping anything major will be found in a US or something....but who knows.

Sorry, Dena! Forgot to answer your question. You can see I'm doing really well lately with this memory thing. My DH thinks it's hysterical. I, on the other hand, get frustrated with myself. I've started making notes for almost everything.

I just meant that nothing's interesting in my world.

Here's a typical night for me... shoo the dogs off the bed so I can get comfortable between by body pillow and my 'back support' pillow. I lie on my left side, hug the body pillow and put it between my knees to help my hips. Behind me, I just have a regular pillow to help keep me propped up. Some nights one of my dogs will lay on that pillow for a little while which helps me.

Wake up a couple hours later, on my back, and suffocating under two dogs who, when they sleep are more like 200 lbs instead of 40. *sigh* Get up to pee, shoo the dogs back off the bed and try to get comfortable again. They immediately jump back up to find themselves a spot, which is usually occupied by me at the same time. Argh... This happens a couple times a night.. I either wake up because I'm uncomfortable or because I have to pee, and it's always a struggle to get two sleepy dogs to cooperate with me. All the while I'm also fighting with my cat for head pillow space. It's enough to drive me crazy some nights.

Why in the world they want to sleep on ME and not DH is a mystery. I guess I'm softer? More gullible? I'm not sure...

This morning, I woke up on my back with my younger pup standing on me licking my face and one arm was asleep. Not sure if it's cause I was on my back or because I had slept on my arm, then just rolled over at the last minute.

As I said, I haven't had any tests done besides the early blood tests for toxoplasmosis, CF, etc. Like Dena, I figure they'll find something on an u/s and it's not like I'm going to abort, anyways.

Hi there ladies...thought I'd pop on to say hey to everyone and thank Chells_Hoff for the mail!! Got it yesterday

Elana's been up almost every hour since 1:30am eating....she's quickly turning into a lil piggy girl! Her pediatrician appointment went well yesterday and she is currently at 7 lbs. 10 oz. They expect her to be back at birth weight at her weigh-in next week.

I go this morn to get that stray staple removed *rolling eyes*. This should be fun! I think hubby's looking forward to showing her off. I literally have trouble getting time with her now that he's home LOL

OMG, substitue 2 dogs with 3 cats and this is a typical night for me! I get up a couple hours earlier than DH, so as soon as I start stirring, they go from laying on me to all three being in my face....."wake up"..."pet me"...."give me fresh water". I love my babies, but they aggravate the cr@p outta me in the morning - NOT DH, but ME!

And my cat loves that I have pillows in the bed with me. I've tried the tuck thing and he just comes and wedges himself between the pillow and my tummy which makes it every difficult to roll over!

Back to the testing - like a lot of choices we make in our pregnancies, testing is a personal one.

I'm sure there is some value to the test, or they wouldn't offer it at all. DH and I just weighed our options with the information provided, and decided it wasn't good for us.

I certainly don't want to knock anyone for having the test done.

Well, this is our second child. We're not expecting to have a shower (we have just about everything you could possibly need) and we're in a rental so we can't really decorate the children's room with regard to paint or anything. We didn't know the sex on our first child and so most of the clothes we have for up to about 9 months are for either flavor. I think he picked 8 months so he will know beforehand but not so far beforehand that he might slip and accidentally let me know. Just a guess, though.

Michelle, I'm absolutely loving the pics. I figure my dogs will be great bathers.. no need to bathe my child, just let the dog clean her up! They already love baby food (it's a great training treat). What's the little mark on her head?

Regarding sleeping on your back... the larger the baby gets the more it's discouraged... the weight of your uteras can compress the vena cava, a major artery that runs down your lower back... this can cause your blood pressure to drop and reduce the oxygen the baby is getting. The farther along you are, the more it's suggested not to lay on your back. However, another I've been told is that your body knows what it's doing. If you're asleep and you roll onto your back don't worry... you will wake up before you've been in that position to long and do any damage, like an internal alarm clock telling you to switch positions. If you're awake and just laying down and need to lay on your back for some reason just listen to your body's signals... if you start to feel light headed, dizzy, or just weird in general then it's time to move positions.

Good morning!

Guess what? I guess I can't eat broccoli anymore for the remainder of my pregnancy. I had the worst gas pains way high in my tummy last night, I couldn't even roll over in bed! I'll be in trouble if childbirth is a fraction as painful. So much for the ease of Chinese take-out and broccoli beef...sorry if TMI.

Ames~Glad you had the tour. I guess we have ours this Saturday. Those rooms sound great!

Chels~Some ladies on another board talked me out of using my own clothes at all during L&D...they said just to wear the hospital gown and bring your own robe. They said to let the hospital do the laundry. One woman said it really did look like a mass-murder had taken place in the delivery room, with all the blood. I got the link to Overstock but couldn't see the bedding set...Overstock's stock price has quadrupled in the past six months! Guess their business is booming.

Jen~Cute Pic of Murphy!

Dena~They say not to sleep on your back after about 20 weeks, but I can assure you I woke up all the time on my back up until about 28 weeks. I can't do it now...I'd wake up right away from the pain, but I think until your body tells you otherwise (by making you wake up) it can't be too harmful. I would try to roll over and just not get all the way there.

Michelle~Love the pics! Harleigh seems to be adjusting great! Did you do anything special to alert her to the new addition?

Smiley~Yep, CVS is an invasive test, with 99% accuracy, unlike the blood test (AFP, triple screen, first tri screen, quad screen are all BLOOD tests...theses do have an incidence of higher false positives...I know, I got one). I posted on CVS yesterday, page 1, you may have to scroll back. CVS can tell you whether your baby has chromosomal anomalies like Downs or any of the Trisomies, but not Spina Bifida. You can also find out the sex earlier. There is a loss rate of about 1/250 with CVS. If you are not at risk age-wise, I see no reason to do it, unless you have had one of the blood testes come back positive and are worried. Amnio is invasive too (I had this done) and searches for all the things CVS does, but also spina bifida. If you have been taking your prenatals with folate all along, I really wouldn't worry about spina bifida. Amnio is like 99.9% accurate.
The majority of babies born with Downs (80%) are born to mothers UNDER 35, but these are also the women having the most babies, so statistically you are still at greater risk if over 35. Spina bifida, if detected, early, can be helped by operating on the spine while the baby is still in utero, if necessary. Some of the trisomies (like 18) are fatal in most cases. These are some of the things amnio can detect.
My personal advice (from experience)? Don't even do the blood tests if you would not consider CVS, amnio, operating in utero, or aborting the baby. It's just not worth the stress. Plus, chances are excellent for a healthy baby anyway.
Sorry for the novel!

Dar~Do you think your doggies can tell you're PG? Or that "something's up"? Animals are so intuitive.

Penguin~So, does your DH know the sex and is just waiting till 8 months to tell you or will you both find out at 8 months?

Vixen~ Does "Birth Your Way" focus on home birth?

Hi everyone else! BBL!

Kelley

The farther along you are, the more it's suggested not to lay on your back. However, another I've been told is that your body knows what it's doing. If you're asleep and you roll onto your back don't worry... you will wake up before you've been in that position to long and do any damage, like an internal alarm clock telling you to switch positions. If you're awake and just laying down and need to lay on your back for some reason just listen to your body's signals... if you start to feel light headed, dizzy, or just weird in general then it's time to move positions.
Sounds like good advice!

I'll be in trouble if childbirth is a fraction as painful. So much for the ease of Chinese take-out and broccoli beef...sorry if TMI.
I'm still trying to figure out what gives me gas....I've never experienced it as painful as it has been while pregnant!

Good info. Thanks!

Neither of us know yet. My doctor has the karyotype and will put it in an envelope at our next appt. for us. DH will probably look at the 8 month mark....

Sorry for the novel!
I'll be 37 when I have this baby. The genetic councelor told us we had a 2% chance of having a baby with chromosomal abnormalities because of my age. We decided to do the CVS because I'll be giving birth at a birthing center instead of a hospital. If the baby had downs or some of the other translocations, there would likely be complications for the baby upon arrival that would be difficult for a birthing center to handle. In that case, I would have decided to give birth at a hospital and have a neonatal team ready to care for the problems the baby would likely have upon birth. The only situation in which we would have considered terminating the pregnancy would have been for the trisomy 18, where those babies are generally stillborn or only survive a day or two after birth. Otherwise, we just wanted to be prepared for the well being of the baby in case of complications.

Whew, that was longer than I thought it would be!
