Good morning ladies!

Good to see the group chatty again! To answer the question about the glucose test I heard it this way....the test shows how your body can handle a certain amount of glucose in a certain amount of time....therefore, if you add any more to that amount of glucose (or sugar) you will throw the test off in a less favorable direction. That's why eating only protein and fat beforehand is better. The office I tested at also said you shouldn't eat anything at all at least two hours before the test....I don't know why though as long as it isn't extra carbs.

Well, my husband thinks he's getting a cold. He took some Nyquil and went to bed as soon as he got home. I didn't even get a kiss or hug goodnight...but I don't want to get it either. It will be amazing if I get away without getting sick these next several weeks. I have to brag that I haven't been sick at all since I started Atkins two years ago....I just don't know if my luck is going to continue...especially since I can't give credit to Atkins anymore for staying well. I'll just have to continue to wash my hands diligently and no smoochies for a while and eat lots of vitamin C foods I guess.

Well, I'm going to make some bread tonight for my sweetie. He's getting low in the freezer and I want to make sure he has some for a while, because I'm not sure I'll be up to cooking much in my last few weeks of pregnancy.

Early this afternoon we are going to take a tour of the hospital we switched to and my doula is planning on coming with, although she is on call so she might not be able to come. I'm excited to see these luxurious birthing rooms for myself!

Well, I guess that is all for now. Have a great day everyone!

I want to sleep on my tummy, even if it's for 5 minutes, I am tired of maternity clothes, and I feel like I'm gonna pop and can't breathe. Oh and did I mention I want more than 10 min of sleep at a time, without having to go pee?

Don’t think I mentioned it but right before Christmas we got our AFP results back and they where good, all the talk about tests Monday reminded me. My next appt is on the 10th & at my last appt they did measure me. Dec 6th @ 17 weeks I was measuring 17 cm from the top of my pelvic bone to the top of my uterus.

Ames ~ Hope that you don’t get sick. Vitamin C & Echinacea usually work for me. then if I feel it coming on I go get an Odawallla strawberry C monster & take a product called "Airborne" www.AirborneHealth.com usually keeps the ickys at bay.

Michelle ~ Thanks for the "fix" it is so wonderful to see her beautiful face without all the tubes!! Hope you get some much needed rest..

Dena ~ Sorry to here that you are bored, I am not bored but tired of not looking PG!! I to hated the crib I chose via the net when I saw it in person, didn’t like the fact that all the silver nuts & bolts showed.

Dar ~ IM me your addy and I will send you a Jack antenna ball. Good for you letting everyone know how it was going to be after your little girl is here. My mom said that she would come stay the week after to cook & clean, but her cooking is OK and she is a bit of a slob, never picks up after herself when she comes to visit. So I am not sure how much "help" she will be.

Emily ~ I guess no new is good news, let us know when you hear something.

Vixen ~ I post on Parents Place but not every day, I shyed away after they all jumped on me about eating LC. Take note of the different induction methods noted we may need them soon!!

Kelley ~ Kristi lives in the East Bay, with her husband who is a hockey player. Did you see the "Hitch your Wagon to a Star" sign?? I just love that!! They had so much more Cowgirl stuff in the store I hope that they add it to the website.

heather123 ~ Thanks for all the hypno-birthing info!!

Penguin ~ Glad your test results came back with flying colors!!

Amy (smiley) ~ Look at you educating others on getting PG.... so proud of you!! Seems like it was yesterday that you introduced yourself to the board as someone who knew nothing!!

Dierdre ~ Do you have any belly shots?? Enjoy the last peek at your little one before she makes her grand entrance!!

Lisa ~ If you check in good luck with your C section!!

Well Victoria's Secret is on my popo list... boy did the room attendant girl piss me off. I was not sure what size to grab as I know my ribcage & boobs have expanded. So I grabbed the Body by Victoria full coverage racer back in a bunch of sizes. The 38DD felt the best but I didn’t like that the racer back because it only had the one hook in front. So I asked her to get me a 38DD in the regular back same style, she looks down at my chest and says "there is no way you need one that big" and she continued to argue with me. Well what do you know it fit just fine, but I didn’t like that there where 3 hooks in back it just looked like a granny bra and if I am going to get one of those I will pay half the price at Penny's. Well she smirked when I said I didn’t like it, so when I tried on another style in the same size I made sure to ask for her assistance to make sure the strap was not twisted in back. She remarked that that one fit me very well and she asked the size.... I asked her to check for me, i wasnt sure. She didn’t say another word to me. Well enough of my VS venting....lol. Hope everyone has a great "hump" day my mission for the day is to start on our refi... blech!!

That's funny about Victoria's Secret. I hate that place as well. I got some fancy lingerie at my wedding shower and obviously the person had never met me, because it was size small! Fortunately, they put the gift recipt in there so I could take it back. Unfortunately, Victoria's Secret wouldn't take it back....they would only give me store credit! I hated everything in that store and it was all twice as expensive as what I got for a gift, so I used my store credit on body wash...what a waste! I vow to never enter that store again!

Good Morning!

Heartburn, a little nausea, feelinf full even tho' I just got up...I guess it must by the eighth month...Ames and Dierdre, do you notice your heartrate is faster? I thought it was supposed to slow down in late pregnancy. Not mine, I guess.

Penguin~ Yay and congrats on the CV test! What a relief. Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl or a surprise?

Aedie~I looked for a Bradley class but couldn't find one, so I found Hypnobirthing (yay!). I hear Bradley is kind of "anti-doctor"...is that true? I absolutely LOVE my doc! She seems to have the soul of a midwife, LOL. Plus she's about the same age as me.

Michelle~Love the coming home pic! We're asleep! Yay!

Chels~I agree that VS is hit and miss, and it's all because of the salespeople. I have found good stuff there, but I went in just before Christmas and I think they could tell by my belly that I was not the customer for them; never mind that I could have been shopping for someone else! I read on another board of a lady who said she wore a black tank dress (from VS I think) during L&D and it worked perfectly...she could pull it up like a nightie to push, and even pull it down to breastfeed right after, and it still looked pretty swank while she was walking the halls of the maternity ward. I'd like something like that since I'm aiming for a natural birth anyway.

Ooh..almost forgot...

What kind of bottles are best and why? I was overwhelmed while registering for my shower last night, so I didn't order any yet, but I know I'll need them.
Also...bottle sterilizer or just dishwasher?

Kelley, we went with Dr. Brown's bottles. Avent raves about how they are just like the 'real thing', but all the reviews we've read said they are better at their pacifiers but their bottles aren't the greatest. My friend uses Avent and I haven't heard complaints, although her son does have alot of ear infections. Could be coincidence. Playtex has a new bottle that lets air in through the bottom (can't remember the name).. they're very 'pretty', but you can't put them in the dishwasher! Dr. Brown's has a straw that allows air in to the bottle. It was highly rated in Baby Bargains, and the girl at BRU (who really seemed to know quite a bit about bottles, we were shocked) couldn't say enough about them. So, she convinced us.

In addition, we registered for both a microwavable sterilizer and for some dishwasher baskets (for nipples and such). I figure that, if we do get the sterilizer, we'll probably use it on those days we don't run the dishes. Not sure if that's realistic, but it's what we thought.

Chels, I can't stand VS, either. If you're not the perfect body type, they don't even look your way to help you. Very disheartening.

Ames, just keep washing those hands. Sucks to not be able to get kisses and hugs, but hopefully you won't get sick. I made sure to keep my hands washed as much as possible last week with the kids here. Poor hubby.

So, I'm about 6 1/2 months, and I've started having days where I'm starving (like yesterday) and can't eat enough, and other days where I'm not hungry at all (like Monday and today). Is that pretty normal? And I'm not sure if this coincides with it at all.. but baby was VERY active all day yesterday (from the moment I woke up), and she hasn't moved much yet today.

Just popped in to say hi...we take Elana to the doctor today so I'm anxious to see how her weight is doing. She slept well last night and I actually feel refreshed today. Might be a good thing seeing I need to call my OB's office as I found a staple they missed last night! Grrrrrrr

Well, I actually stepped on the scale to see what I was facing now that I'm feeling better. I was 340 pre-pregnancy when I started LC last January. Had gotten to 306 the day I went to doctor to confirm pregnancy and as of this morning....and 332 last weigh in at doctor's before surgery. As of this morning....309!!

MadameX....about bottles.....it truly is up to you. I personally don't care for the drop-in style and I've heard nothing but how Avent bottles leak. So we went with the Playtex VentAire's which aren't as intimidating as they look once you get them apart for the first time. I also received a few of the Evenflo vented bottles and they're cheaper and same in use. As for sterilizer or dishwasher.....doctor's and bottle companies now suggest sterilization before the first use (pot of water on stove works great) then hot water/soap and air dry after that or top rack dishwasher.

Hey Michelle! Elana looks precious and congrats on the weight loss. That is awesome!

ETA - how did you put on your pregnancy weight? If I read right, you gained 26 pounds which is great. I'd like to keep mine around yours. I've gained 11 pounds with 4 months to go. How was yours distributed? All at once....middle of pregnancy...evenly throughout...at the end of pregnancy?

You are going to laugh at this question but is 6 1/2 months the same as being half way through your six month?

I get so confused with the month/week thing. I read that and thought, that means I am six months pregnant (since we are two weeks apart)....but I still have four months to go.

I just never know what to tell people when they ask me how far along I am. I try to tell them in weeks, and they say "I don't know what that means".

So tell me, which is it?

Told you ladies I as bored - too much time to think about stupid things.

Well, I just look at it this way. I'll be 26 weeks this weekend = 6 1/2 months to me. Technically, I'm 1/2 way through my 7th lunar month, right? It's all so confusing.. pregnancy is really 10 months, when you look at it that way. But to me, 40 weeks = 10 months.

Like you said, folks don't understand the weeks, months is easier to comprehend.

Not sure if I'm doing it the right way, but it's easier for me to just translate the weeks to months by the good old fashioned dividing by 4.

Dena~that whole month/week thing is so confusing to me too! I realize that only women who have had babies or are PG care about weeks, it's Greek to everyone else, LOL! I would say that you will be in your sixth month at 24 weeks, although technically we're PG for TEN months, and they count the first two weeks before we even ovulate, so...maybe six months at 26 weeks? Is it clear I really don't know what I'm talking about?

Michelle~ Awesome on the weightloss! How cool to end up so close to your pre-PG weight! Lucky girl. Are the Avent bottles the ones with the tilted nipple?

Dar~I will check out Dr. Brown's too, thanks! Babies R Us seems to have less online than if I was just brave and actually went to the store. As for the active baby on some days, you could have been describing my 6 1/2 th month! I heard that they get really active but calm down during a "growth spurt", but that could coincide with your hungry days/not so hungry days! I say eat now, because at eight months you will be hungry but have no room for food. I heard women actually lose weight their last month, now I think I see why. I love to eat, though.

Good morning ladies,
Looks like everyone is doing well . Can someone fill me in on what a CVS test is?

About bottles, I always used the Playtex nursers w/drop ins. I nursed for 13 months but he occassionally needed one while I was away or something. Never had a problem with them.

Sorry about the VS experience, I'm not too fond of them either AND I usually have to wear "granny" bras LOL. Especially when I'm pregnant I need at least 4 or 5 hooks in the back . Good response to her asking what size it was .

Dena....I really wish I could tell you but I did gain most of it long before my 3rd trimester started. By then I was too "full feeling" from the baby to eat much and that's when I saw the losses those couple of docs visits in a row. I consider myself VERY lucky as LC was out the window in the first trimester as most of us find....but I did crave a ton of fruit and fruit juices which probably kept my sugar intake in check. I honestly don't know how I'll go back to LC and give up my fruit again, but thank God for Florida strawberries in February!!

Hope this helps, although I know it probably doesn't LOL....again, I got really lucky this time as I gained 63 lbs. with my son and only ever lost 10 lbs. post pregnancy.

Hi Ali!

Are you considering CVS? Here's what it is:

Quote:
Prenatal Testing Basics: CVS Test
What it is, who has it, when, why, and what it tells you.

When is the test taken?
Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is usually performed between 10 and 12 weeks after your last menstrual period.

Who needs to take the test, and why?
CVS is used to get an early diagnosis of genetic and/or chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome. It's offered when there's an increased risk of such defects, and when expectant parents want early test results instead of waiting to have an amniocentesis (which tests for many of the same abnormalities but is given only in the second trimester). You may be offered CVS if you will be 35 or older on your due date, have had a prior child with chromosomal or genetic abnormalities, or have a history of such problems in your family.
Click Me
If you feel strongly that you would rather have the option of terminating a pregnancy before the end of your first trimester, you should ask your doctor about this test as an alternative to amniocentesis. Be aware, however, that the CVS test carries a slightly higher risk of test-related miscarriage than amnio -- perhaps 1 in 100 for CVS as opposed to less than 1 in 200 for amnio. (Some medical sources say this risk could be as high as 3.5 or 4 in 100, but, to date, no controlled studies have been completed.) Also, you should be aware that CVS cannot test for neural tube defects.

What's involved?
Chorionic villus sampling begins with an ultrasound exam, which is needed to confirm the age of the fetus and the position of the placenta. Then, using the ultrasound image as a guide, the practitioner removes a tiny piece of the chorionic villi, the fingerlike projections of tissue that attach the placenta to the wall of the uterus. This can be done in one of two ways. (1) In a transcervical CVS, the practitioner inserts a narrow tube through the vaginal canal and into the cervix, using gentle suction to extract a bit of the needed tissue. (2) In a transabdominal CVS, a long, narrow needle is inserted through the abdomen and into the uterus to extract the tissue. The type of CVS your practitioner chooses to perform will depend on your individual anatomy and the position of the placenta. The villi sample (which shares the same genetic makeup as the baby) is sent to a lab, where it is grown in a culture, then checked for defects.

The test lasts about a half an hour, but the extraction process should only take a few minutes. It may be painless, or it may pinch or hurt briefly. Afterward, you should take it easy: plan to take the rest of the day off of work, arrange for a ride home, and relax. You may experience mild cramping and slight spotting. Any prolonged bleeding or cramping should be immediately reported to your healthcare provider.

When are test results available, and how are they interpreted?
Results are normally available within 7 to 14 days. CVS test results are more than 99 percent accurate in diagnosing many genetic and chromosomal abnormalities. If you receive "normal" results, your baby has an excellent chance of being healthy -- but be aware that the test doesn't rule out every possible problem. If your test results indicate an abnormality, you will meet with your practitioner and a genetic specialist to discuss your options, which may include further tests.

My concerns exactly! I love fruit! Notice prices going up? That's because I'M cornering the market single-handedly. I think I'm making up for the year I didn't eat much fruit while doing the first stages of Atkins. Yesterday I had: four large tangerines, a grapefruit, and a pear.

ETA: Do you think it's because we're having girls? I know it's an old wives' tale that with girls you crave sweet and with boys salty and sour, but I wonder...

I realize it is different for everyone....but I was wondering if it was realistic of me to think that I could not gain more than another 10 or 15 pounds the next four months, if I paid attention to what I was eating.

I'm not interested in dieting....but if the baby has another 6 pounds to grow, and my boobs are going to get bigger, plus more fluids....that doesn't leave a lot of room for play.

Bottles - with my daughter I used Avent and thoght they were great, but this time around I plan on using Dr Browns. iv'e read nothing but good stuff about them. The Playtex Ventair bottles however the revies I've read have not been that favorable. Nothing wrong with them, just that they didn't live up to the claims.

Weight gain - With my daughter I only gained 3 lbs, but with this baby I've already gained 16!!! That's a pound a week so far! Yikes! My midwife hasn't said anything yet, but I keep expetcing her too. If this continues I'm looking at a 40 lbs gain! I can't do that! I do NOT want to be that high again, no way! But unfortunately my stomach does flip-flops when I think about eating meat. But I can eat meat in small amounts with carbs. For example,
chicken breast w/green beans = queasy
chicken strips with a baked potato = no queasy

Meatloaf w/brocolli = queasy
hamburger on a bun w/fries = no queasy

I can't win ~sighs~ I either don't eat anything because good stuff makes me queasy, and I starve... or I eat bad stuff and gain too much weight. And it doesn't help that I despise cooking... hate it... think it's EVIL.

I'm doomed.

Aedie... no worries really about tornados here... they're soooo rare... I've been here about 5 1/2 years, and this was only the second tornado warning I've heard... nothing touched down yesterday either, so that's a plus... yeah, there was hail and some sighting of funnel clouds, but it wasn't that bad... I just freak out about little things... plus living on the third floor didn't help since we have no place lower to the ground to go.
Tornados have always scared me (lived in Texas for 5 years and went through some bad ones there), but earthquakes scare me more... I literally will not set foot in CA because I'm so afraid of them. With tornados you get the warning, can watch the storm system move in and can always go to a safer place (like a basement or something)... but with an earthquake it's just BAM! There it is! No warning... no safe place to hide... no escape. I hate tornados, but I'd rather deal with them than earthquakes.

I tried a slin with my daughter and I hated it. I always felt like she was going to fall out if I moved at all. I was so uncomfortable with it. I much prefer the front carriers.

Michelle.... I love that picture of little Elana! I hope everything goes well at the doctor today!

Hi ladies...

Just checking in. I've got a major crisis going on at work so it's taking up ALL of time time. Plus after I got the pipes taken care of last week, I got sick for the whole weekend. It was just a bad cold but I was quite miserable! I'm just trying to wade through this week now until hubby gets home on Friday and can treat me like the Princess I've become!

Pregnancy-wise things are good. I definitely feel like I'm growing in my tummy and I'm really getting excited to feel some movement in the next month or so. Doctor's appt on Monday. I think I'm doing the quad screen then (16 weeks). YICK, I hate blood tests!!!

I really need to do a better job with eating. For the last week I've been eating a lot of crap. Fast food for breakfast, soup for lunch, whatever is easy for dinner :-/ I'm slacking way too much on the veggies. I need my DH home to keep me in line!

Glad to hear everyone is hanging in there!

Hi Ladies!

Just checking in. Still preggers.

Starting to get more pelvic pain with walking. Having the classic bowling ball between my legs sensations as well. Suprisingly my back has been doing pretty good lately. No more sciatica. I think it all moved into my pelvis!

I went over to Other Mothers yesterday and found a collapsible bassinet for $15 and a really snazzy diaper bag for $6. I love resale baby stores. I saw a bunch of other stuff I want, but have to wait until I get paid again.

I am taking Friday off this week in order to get my nursery in order and to get our carpet ordering done so that the carpet will be ready for after the baby is born. I can't wait to see my little one and hold them in my arms.

I actually hope that the office pool is right and I deliver sometime next week. I just hope I don't go into labor During morning rush hour (my hospital is in that direction) or at work. DH is carrying his cell phone around at all times now (we only have 1 car) in case I need him in the middle of the night while he is at work. He also won't let me go anywhere by myself unless I am carrying that phone with me (I personally hate cellphones) but I do feel a little safer should something go awry and I am by myself.

Bags are all packed and ready to go. Plans in place. Now I am just waiting for something to come along and screw it up.
