Good morning ladies.
Whew, what a day I had yesterday! I had my prenatal appointment and my doula came with me. We went and toured the maternity ward at the hospital first. It seems like a nice cozy place and the birthing rooms are huge! The tour didn't take that long so we sat in a waiting area and discussed several things before going in to see the doctor. The doctor's meeting was interesting. I had tons of questions this time about the labor process and items I'm concerned with, especially with protocol items. I feel a lot better about a lot of things now, but the one big thing I still don't feel comfortable with is how the doctor tried to portray the semisitting or reclining position as the best for giving labor. She didn't really even give me a reason except that if you have an epidural you have to be lying down flat for the medicine to work. That I understood and didn't have a problem with, but when I tried to counter that semi-sitting on your tail bone will narrow the pelvic outlet increasing the chances for a tear or episiotomy all she said is that position doesn't make a difference. I have read half a dozen or so books and have a doula that think otherwise, and based on my scientific "commen sense" I don't agree with the doctor. I didn't argue with her and just continued with my questions, because I didn't think it would be appropriate with my doula sitting there...I don't want them to think that she has anything to do with my disagreement. But at my next appointment with another doctor I will bring it up again and hopefully get a better answer. In my birth plan I will make this of utmost importance to me assuming my labor is going well. I am very much opposed to episiotomies unless the babies life is in danger, especially when studies prove that it only shortens the labor by 5 to 15 minutes. I have a mother and an aunt that still have problems today because of getting episiotomies so I want to do everything in my power to avoid getting one including trying a better position to give birth in even if it isn't as convenient for the doctor. Ok, I'm done ranting about that for now. Quote:
We got some more light snow this morning and now it is butt cold outside and windy! I hear only a high of 5 on Thursday...brrrr! Oh well, I can handle it, especially since I'm off the next few days, so I can hybernate indoors. Quote:
Good luck to Michelle too! Will you be checking in tomorrow morning before you go to the hospital? Well, I guess that's all for now. I'm gonna work on reading some more of the material the doula gave me. Have a great day everyone! Ames |

Morning!!
Ames.....sounds like you have researched and educated yourself to know what you prefer in your birth plan, good for you! In the grander scheme, as long as you write it out and make it specific to the hospital staff and your doctors staff...all should go well. However, with that said, edcuate yourself on the things you do not want as well because many times our bodies and the baby's have plans of their own which stray from our "Ideal birth plan". Sounds like you're on the right track ![]() GetNSlim......ok lady! Everything I have is crossed for you and you of all people know how hard that is at this point!! I'm something happened overnight or today that will let you meet your little boy!!!Surfdol......hope all is well and that you're holding your little one! Well, it's official....I'm nervous as heck! It hit me yesterday that not only will my daughter be arriving (YIKES in 24 hours!!!) but that I'm having major surgery. I have been through a CSection before and everyone tells me a "planned" one is much easier recovery but I'm also a big girl with a little more weight on me than when I had my son. I just keep focused on the fact that my primary goal is to be out of the bed sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening since surgery is in the morning. I know the trick is the "faster you move, the better you feel" so hopefully I can get through the pain to do just that. I have my list of "to do's" to get done today so that the house, dog and finances are in order so I'm not sweating things when I get back from the hospital. List isn't that long...but still includes packing my bag (oy what a procrastinator I am on that one). Hubby and I had a long talk about his job last night. He suffers from an ulcer which has been acting up for about 2 months now. He lives on Gaviscon due to no medical coverage, but has tried Prilosec and is having a much better time of it lately. Well, it of course flared up yesterday with the job situation. We have decided that this is yet another challenge for us to face....but there is nothing we can do as of yet so we are going to focus on the addition to our family. We survived my work situation, and we will survive his. Good news is, if he doesn't get one of the permenant positions...he can file for unemployment until he or his contract company find him a new job. Plus, we can do a rapid refund since we'll get a tax cut with the baby as well. So while it's not "promising"....we're letting the chips lie where they may and enjoying our baby. If anything, unemployment checks = him home with his little one for a little longer. OK enough of my rambling....Ames, yes I'll TRY to check in before leaving for the hospital in the morning but I can't promise. We literally have to BE at the hospital at 5:30 am, UGGHH. Think I'll get any sleep tonight?? Last edited by BrattyChelle : 12-22-2004 at 05:10 AM. |

Good morning ladies...! Still here and pregnant. At this point I'm not caring...I wouldn't mind going in the day after Christmas. I just DON'T want to be in the hospital on Christmas Eve or Christmas day. Heck, I wouldn't even mind going in Christmas night after all of festivities are over!
Ames- Sounds like you know what you want. I must just trust my doctor alot!! His wife is a midwife and practices with him, and they do great together. I have 2 great births previous to this. Like Chelle said, just write it all down!! Chelle-I'm so happy for you...you finally get to meet your baby girl!! We'll be thinking about you tomorrow!! Dar-Hey there!! Well, I'm off to go eat some pineapple!! I was told the enzymes in it can help you go into labor!! Maybe I'm just believing anything at this point!! ![]() |

Awwww, Michelle, he'll (or she? Sorry, I can't remember) be fine.
Perhaps leave a blankie or something with your scent on it to help. Imagine how much happier he'll be when you come home! Just another tip, don't make it a huge deal when you drop him off. It will only confuse him. Make it happy and joyful, like an adventure. I know it's tough on you, but easier on them in the long run. |

Yeah she has a pillow we have on the couch that she LOVES to sleep on (in fact is now) that I hold onto while sitting on the couch....so I'm sending that with her. Also, the woman watching her MAY come get her from here t'nite and Harliegh loves her so hoping it'll be harder on me than her.

Believe me, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I hate being away from my girls when I'm at work. They have so much love to give, it's addictive.
As Dena had said before, I love my fur kids so much, I can't imagine loving something more.. just wait 'till this kid comes! |

hahahaha aren't you supposed to be at work???? And NO I don't believe it!
OK....the bathroom and kitchen floors are swept and mopped, the bathtub tiles cleaned, as much of the bathtub scrubbed as I can physically bend over and do. Vacuuming I'm going to try to do but there's a ton of crap on the floor from the ceiling repair that I'm not sure I can bend over to get it all up....the bank is still calling my name.....the doggy's ready and waiting and I STILL have to pack LOL. Hmmm another hand of gin on pogo sounds so good about now! |

Sarah...TOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL GetnSlim....I have been to the bank!! Now I'm trying to grab something to eat. With my son we brought a blanket from the hospital home before the baby so the dogs could sniff it. We'll be doing the same with this pup as she'll be coming home on Friday. That gives her almost a day to get used to the baby's scent on the blanket. |

Cute pictures, Mrs. Sarah!!
I thought I'd post a quick update on me -- I had the CVS done yesterday. We did get a nice ultrasound of the Bun and saw two legs and two arms and basic structures (and the all important heartbeat!). They did the CVS through a needle in the belly -- not the most pleasant but it was less painful than I expected. If they're lucky they can get a preliminary result by tomorrow (if they have enough cells). Otherwise, we have to wait two weeks. It'd be great to have a good result by Christmas, though. I know I'll be calling home checking the answering machine all day tomorrow, hoping.... |
