Hi Everyone, I am hoping that someone may be able to help me out. I just found oout that I am pregnant and am SO excited. I would really like to continue restricting carbs from my diet but am not sure if it is healthy for the pregnancy. This is my first ppregnancy and want to make sure that I am doing everything right! Does anyone have any experience with this that they can help me out with?? Thanks!

LOL -ask your doctor which he/she'd prefer: eat loads of high carb/sugar loaded foods OR eat lean protein and veggies w/some whole grains(low-carb) - bet he says eat lean protein and veggies w/some whole grains
Congrats!

Thank you! That is what I thought but then I read something that said that losing weight suring pregnancy is very harmful and that ketones can hurt the fetus. I am in induction phase and assume I should add some things. What should I add? Any suggestions?

There is nothing unhealthy about cutting out sugar and white starches from your diet. Just skip the junk foods and white starch. Eat veggies and fruit along with your protein. Just don't use pregnancy for eating junk food. Congratulations!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, Konab.

There used to be a big pregnancy thread in the Maintenance forum, you might want to check for that. I believe most people go to the Maintenance level of the diet during pregnancy, and you would not be in ketosis at that level, so no worries.

Congrats!!! And yes! You can lo-carb while preggers. I wish I had the sense to have done that, it really would have helped with the weight I am still struggling with.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!!

WOW you must be SO excited!! I too was wondering about this same exact thing the other night, because although I am not actively trying to get pregnant, I don't use any type of birth control, so if it happens, it happens! (And I would be thrilled!)

Good luck with your pregnancy!

Congrats on the baby!!! They don't like you to lose weight but I was so sick with both of my pregnancies (all 9 months) that I lost 20 lbs. with one and 10 with the other. Both babies are perfectly healthy and thriving at 11 and 8 now. Does not being able to keep ANYTHING down count as low carb? LOL

One thing that is really important is to get in your folic acid. If your doctor has already prescribed prenatal vitamins, then I'd pick some up from Walmart until you can get the prescription from him. They sell them in the vitamin aisle.
