Good morning ladies!
I'm doing pretty good considering all the little annoyences of tonight. I woke up about 2 hours before my alarm to go pee and I was freezing cold and my sinuses were all stuffed up. Of course I couldn't get back to sleep then, because of my stuffed sinuses and the baby decided it was time to excercise. Then I forgot to wash my face last night before we went to the movie.....and wouldn't ya know I get an acne break out today. I tell ya that Neutrgena deep clean cream cleanser is my miracle worker for acne...but I have to use it twice a day as per the instructions or I'm back with a pizza face. Then, I've had signs that the heartburn is returning. The last few days it has only been when I lay down to go to sleep, but not bad enough to take anything. Yesterday, it hit me a few hours earlier and I couldn't go to sleep without taking TUMS. I can tell that my uterus is starting to get pretty high as the baby feels like he is kicking me in the ribs now...so I'm sure that's what is causing the acid reflux when I lay down. I suppose this is going to plague me till I deliever now. If it gets worse I suppose I'll have to start taking Pepcid before going to bed.Well, I guess that's all the complaining I can do for today. Have a great day everyone!Ames |

Morning everyone,
Ames, sorry to hear about your rough night...I guess it's just the woes of pregnancy Not much time today, I have a doctors appointment at 11:30, and we had another foot of snow last night!!! Hubby said he shoveled enough of the driveway to get the car out, but I'll believe it when I see it. I think I'll leave myself ample time to get there regardless. Surprisingly, in such a cold and snowy climate, they are extremely bad about maintaing the roads. Salt and sand are too environmently "sick" to use, and snow plow truck drivers have lives too, so they don't work around the clock The basic plan of attack here is to throw some gravel on it and hope it freezes into a non slippery surface Anyhow, wish me luck, I'll check back later. |

Ames, what a bummer of a night! I had a restless night, too, but not that bad!
My dreams kept waking me up, and I'd find myself on my back pinnned down by one of the dogs.Martha, how frustrating! When I lived in VA (on the coast), I couldn't understand why they wouldn't use salt when it snowed. Turns out they didn't know any better since it hardly ever snowed! Hope you have those snow tires on! ![]() Sarah, so glad to hear Tanner is home!! How exciting, although I doubt you got much sleep last night. Well, my DH is so frustrating. I picked him up yesterday, we went home, and jumped the car. So, car needs a new battery right? Well, while we're on our way to take it to Firestone, he says, "why don't we just do this tomorrow.. I have a project to work on." I figure he needs the time, so we turn around and head home.. I had already taken the afternoon off so I worked on cleaning the house. His project only took him 30 minutes to finish!!! ARGH! And so we have to do it all again today.. although today I'm coming back to work. Not that I'm really doing anything, but I can't afford to take another day!Men! Hope everyone else is having a good day so far.. we're 3 for 3 now! LOL... |

Ames~welcome to the third trimester of feet in the ribs, reflux, and heartburn. Those three have been daily constants for me for sometime now. This baby has his feet in one particular spot under my ribs on the right side. It burns almost all the time. When I first started feeling it, I thought I needed to go up in bra sizes again. DH was a trooper and took me shopping several times, but I just couldn't find a bra that hurt any less than the ones I had. That is when I realized that the only way this pain was going away was to have this baby. Don't worry about taking the Tums. Just do it. I had a bottle at work, and two at home...one in the kitchen and one by my bedside. I found I had the reflux quite a bit after lying down. Just sit up and chew a couple. It will make you feel better and help you go back to sleep.
How is everyone else doing today? I am still waiting. My cleaning list is slowly getting smaller, so it is only a matter of time now. I didn't go to sleep until 4am, so I think I am going to head back to bed for a few more hours. At this point, I will take any sleep I can get, no matter the time of day. BBL

Morning Ladies!!
Ames....sorry to hear about the long night. Hope tonight is better for you ![]() MarthaD....OK I'm still jealous about all the snow (she says as she turns down the air conditioning yet again to get comfy...grrrrr) Dar.....MEN geeeeze!! I'm curious, why didn't you go get the battery after he finished his 30 minute project? And about the dogs. Mine doesn't pin me down, but definitely limits the foot space I have!Doing well here under the circumstances. Starting to feel a bit of cabin fever settling in, but the lawyer comes to my house today at 2pm to meet with me. I'm he has good news for me! I'm also considering finally digging into these Harry Potter books out by the pool seeing my house is almost entirely spotless (who is this woman and WHERE did she come from?!?!)Pregnancy wise I'm doing well. I do think I'm bending over/stooping a bit more than I should. I'm finding that at night my lower abdomen is extremely sore and even more so when lil one decides to move about. So after this final scrubdown of the bathroom I'm about to do, I'm going to take a few days of rest. Have a great day everyone, I'll pop in later!! |

![]() Keeping fingers crossed this happens soon for you!! I can relate with the Tums. I find I need them mostly at night when I'm lying down. Problem is...I get up to potty, take 2 Tums, lie down...then baby has the hiccups EVERY TIME after I take the Tums. LOL Doc thinks it's perfectly fine, just extremely funny. I seriously wouldn't have survived this pregnancy so far without my 4 bottles of Tums sporadically placed. |

Oooohhh.. Harry Potter by the pool, sounds like a great day to me! Have you read any of them? I've read them all several times.. I'm a big fan. I also bent over way too many times yesterday sorting through photos and putting away boxes. I was really achy last night before bed. Duh me.. I'm learning I'm no longer superwoman! My friend down the street warned me she better NOT see me on a ladder putting up Christmas lights.. she knows I'm just the type of person to not listen to reason and do it! LOL... |

Hi again,
KarateJen, I hope your time comes soon! Michelle, Harry Potter is great, and the pool--even better! Lets swap spaces! Dar, Men, can't live with em...or without them! Well, as suspected hubby only shoveled 1/2 of the driveway, so I did enough to get the car out, but it was kind of heavy snow, so I didn't finish. No snow tires yet, but the car went well in the snow, it's an Audi Quattro, so the all wheel drive really helps. Doctors appointment was uneventful, we just chatted. She assured me everything that I've experienced is pretty normal, and scheduled me for another ultra sound at 28 weeks in Janurary. I think I'm ready for Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure where I'm going to put the turkey. I think I want to brine it, I wonder if I can put it outside in the brine? Any ideas? OK, here my contraversial question of the day. Circumcision (we don't know the sex yet...but I want to be prepared)--what do you think about it? My hubby isn't, but I worry that an uncut boy growing up in the US will encounter a lot of stress about it. DH is the first man I've ever seen "intact" and I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback at first. Now I'm used to it, but sometimes secretely wish he was cut. What is everyone planning? Cheers! |

Nope, started the first Harry Potter book about a year ago and just didn't have the time to really get into it. Hubby bought the whole series in hardcover for me...then threw himself into them and is dying waiting for the next one. That's why I thought perhaps I could use this time I have to really get into them. Especially now that all that's left to deep clean in my house is the cabinets/closets. The rate i'm going, those should be done any day LOL |

LOL I'll swap with you anyday!! I'd rather read curled up under a down comforter on the couch/bed vs. at the pool any day!! (I swear I live in the wrong state) As for the turkey....I'm wondering if you can do what I do. I put mine in a thoroughly cleaned/disinfected cooler full of salt water and some ice for about 48 hours before I roast it. Of course you have to keep restocking the ice, but it creates a slow thaw and the salt helps draw out all the blood (yuck) and it saves me doing it in my kitchen sink. Circumcision....thankfully I don't have to make that decision this time around. I have 3 experiences with it though so sorry if it's TMI. My first husband was not circumcised....and even he admitted it's a tad more work to take care of to avoid infections, especially in a child. Therefore, when my son was born he was circumcised at 6 months when he had his hypospadis (sp?) surgery. His circumcision has been trouble free and they did a great job. Now, my hubby now is circumcised....but he has the issues some men get once out of puberty. They took too much of his foreskin so when he is erect (god he'd kill me if he knew I was typing this), it stretches it taut and sometimes if erect too long, becomes sore after. All in all though, I'd vote circumcision if it's something you both can agree on....and that's based strictly on hygenic issues (and slightly on the U.S. issue as most boys here are). |

If we have a boy, he will be circumcised. I've done a lot of research on it, and I personally do not believe that it is medically necessary to have a boy circumcised. But, it is part of our Western culture. His dad is, his granddad is and he will be too.....(assuming we have a boy). I think it is a very personal decision, and I would read up on it as much as possible.
ETA - Here is kind of a summary as to what I have been reading.... Are there any benefits from circumcision? Studies about the benefits of circumcision have provided conflicting results. Some studies show certain benefits, while other studies do not. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says the benefits of circumcision are not significant enough to recommend circumcision as a routine procedure and that circumcision is not medically necessary. The American Academy of Family Physicians believes parents should discuss with their son's doctor the potential benefits and the risks involved when making their decision. A recent AAP report stated that circumcision does offer some benefit in preventing urinary tract infections in infants. Circumcision also offers some benefit in preventing penile cancer in adult men. However, this disease is very rare in all men, whether or not they have been circumcised. Circumcision may reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. A man's sexual practices (e.g., if he uses condoms, if he has more than one partner, etc.) has more to do with STD prevention than whether or not he is circumcised. Study results are mixed about whether circumcision may help reduce the risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners, and whether it helps prevent certain problems with the penis, such as infections and unwanted swelling. Some studies show that keeping the penis clean can help prevent these problems just as well as circumcision. Infections and unwanted swelling are not serious and can usually be easily treated if they do occur.

Hi Ladies!
...back from paradise, and just trying to catch up on everything. I will try to read all the threads I missed and post tomorrow. Travelling while PG was interesting...the humidity really got to me the first day and I think I was having braxton hicks contractions...my uterus felt really hard and weird. Let's just say medical care was not up to US standards...thankfully I didn't need to go to a doctor. The islanders suggested I eat green coconuts ("good for baby") and the bananas were the best! They loved kids and PG ladies there, so it was really great. I feel huge. Have gained 5 lbs as of this morning. I think I might be retaining water from the long flight, so am hoping to weigh less tomorrow. I see Sarah and Christina are now mommies! I will have to track down their birth stories. I'll try to do personals tomorrow. Kelley

Good morning ladies. Everything still going fine here with the pregnancy. I can definately identify with you 3rd trimester mommies...you all have described my nightly ritual to a tee!! I can live without TUMS!
Ames-Hope you sleep better...I am so tired all the time now!! Marthad-I'm feeling for ya with the snow issue. We live in Wyoming and are blessed to have good road crews and such. It has been a fairly light winter here for us so far...but it did snow last night. My daughter is so excited and can't wait to go out and play in it! Dar-Sometimes hubbies are just so frustrating! My hubby is actually a work aholic and if he is at home he can't sit still so if something has to be done immediately he usually is the one that ends up doing!! However, since he has been working out of town I have to do alot more. I even had to shovel the snow off the walks this morning!! Oh well, atleast I got my exercise in! KarateJen-Man...if only I could just go lay down and take a nap whenever I wanted!! I remember all too well my pregnancy with my first, and how I could just lay down when I was tired and then after also when I had her!! When I had DS there was DD to take care of so I couldn't...and now this time around I have DD and DS...! DIF-My hubby gained weight as well with my pregnancies! It's wierd, like they don't want to see us outeat them?!? Marthad-My DH is circumcised, and so is my DS. So with this DS he will also be. I too think it is a personal choice and one to be considered carefully. Hello GoJackets and Madame!! Welcome back, Madame. Glad you had a good time! |

Hi everyone.
Everyone getting ready for Thanksgiving? Circumcision - its not in my religion to get circumcised. So DS and DH are not. I don't think I still would, I mean, this is just me, but even though we live in a western society, so what. No one is going to compare down there and laugh because he is/isn't circumcised. I say, leave it the ole natural way. So I guess I'm trying to say that unless it was due to religious reasons, I wouldn't do it. |

Hi everyone!!
Just stopping by to say hi. I'm going to pop in my doctor's office for a quick checkup to make sure I don't have an infection. I'm pretty sure I don't but let's just say things are smelling a little "off". I also scheduled my nuchal transparency screening test for Dec. 13. I wasn't going to do it until I found out my insurance covers it and I get another ultrasound of it. Since I will be 12 weeks then and that's the week I miscarried before I'm thinking that will hopefully provide me with much reassurance right before the holidays. On circumcision, I told DH I would leave that decision up to him and he definitely thinks it's not a good idea to circumcise. He not himself (European) and so it's pretty much a given to him that if you run into problems you deal with it then. Welcome back MadameX! Got any pictures to share with us? Amy, what DPO are you now? Ames, sorry it was a rough night! Hi everyone else that I missed!! Meg

Meg ~ I am either 7 or 6 DPO. The reason why I question is that for a while, FF kept going back and forth. So right now it says 7DPO but who knows.

Hello All,
We did a lot of research on circumcision too. It turns out that the number of families having it done in the US is in sharp decline. Twenty years ago, 60% of boys in the US used to get circ'd. Today, it's down to 40%. The US is the only industrialized country where it is done with any regularity. The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend it. They say there is no medical reason for it. My husband was done because he is Jewish (non-practicing now). DS #1 we had done. DS#2 is not done because he was adopted from Russia and came to us intact. We opted not to with Henry (DS#3). Frankly I just couldn't stand the brutality of it. They're strapped to a board, spread eagle, the connection of the foreskin to the shaft is literally torn apart, then the foreskin is sliced off. All with no anesthetic. I'm not going to apologize for TMI here bacuase if it's hard to read about, imagine what it's like to go through it? Some say babies don't feel pain the way adults do because they don't seem that uncomfortable after it's all done. Others say that's because they're in shock. Anybody who's heard a baby cry from a raw diaper rash knows they certainly feel pain. I equate it to female genital circumcision. If you wouldn't cut anything off a girl, why would you do it to a boy? JMHO. Regards, LizzyD

More pics!
Here's my girl Caena at our practice Sunday.... she's such a good girl! The last pic is of her going through what are called "weave poles", where they 'weave' back and forth through 6 or 12 poles.. and yes, it is the hardest thing to teach since they have to do them a certain way. Most Border Collie's are pros at it.. her problem area is the teeter totter. |

Sarah - So happy to hear Tanner is home and healthy!!!!! Mom2twoboys - I'm 35 and I refused both the AFP or quad screen test and the amnio. I was unwilling to do the amnio becuase I was uncomfortable with the risks. I saw no need to do the blood tests because I wasn't going to do the amnio. Instead, I requested a Level II ultrasound. My dr referred me to the perinatologist and I had mandatory genetic counseling (scared the daylights out of DH) and then the Level II ultrasound. Based on that they were able to reduce the odds of us having a Down Syndrome child in half from the general odds based on my age. The ultrasound also indicated no signs of any other birth defects. DS is 5 days old now and appears to be perfectly healthy. Circumcision - Both my boys are circumsised. I left the decision up to DH since it's more a male issue. Hello to everyone else!! I promised my birth story so here goes.... After I posted last Wednesday that I was so ready to have the baby, I laid down for a short nap. When I woke up around 2 and went to the restroom there was a very large wet spot on my underwear. I thought I could be leaking fluid but wasn't entirely sure. I called DH and he kind of freaked out because he was at work and very busy (he's the shift commander for his shift at the fire dept and they had no stop calls that day). I told him I wasn't positive it was fluid so I would wait and see what happened. I put on a maxi pad and went to pick our niece up at school at 2:45. When I got out of the car and walked up to get her, I was having gushes of fluid and it felt like I was wetting my pants. I decided that my water had probably definitely broke. I got our niece and came home and checked the fluid on the pad. It was sticky (my best friend had said the fluid was sticky when her water broke) so I started trying to call DH and called the dr's office while waiting for DS to get home from school on the bus. As soon as DS got home, I loaded the kids up in the car and went and picked DH up at work. I was only having minor infrequent contractions at this point. We dropped the kids off at a friend's house and drove in to the dr's office. By this time I was having semiregular uncomfortable contractions. When I got into the office for the dr to check me and changed into a gown my pants were soaked even though I had on 2 maxi pads. My dr was off so one of the other drs in the office checked and confirmed that my membranes were ruptured. I got dressed and one of the nurses took me across to the hospital in a wheelchair. The oncall dr checked me at the hospital and said I was 1 cm dilated, 70% effaced and at station -2. The day before I had been 40 % effaced and at station -3. She said we could do the csection or wait a few hours to see if my contractions picked up and if my cervix changed more. She said if I had more cervical change than we could consider pitocin to help my contractions but she didn't want to use pitocin unless my cervix got more favorable. The nurse put in a hep lock and I was allowed to walk the halls with monitoring every 30 minutes to make sure baby was tolerating the contractions. I walked for about 20 minutes 2 different times and then stopped because I was having lots of back labor. At 9:30 the dr checked me again and I was 2 cm, 80% effaced. She gave me the choice to do the csection or try the pitocin. DH, my dad and I discussed it and decided I would try the pit. They got it started about 10 and by 10:30 I was getting uncomfortable. By 11:00 the contractions were really starting to hurt. I didn't want any pain meds yet because I was afraid it would stall me. The nurse recommended I try Dilaudid (sp?) through the IV if I didn't want to do the epidural. After moaning through contractions for a couple of hours, I took the Dilaudid. It made me sleepy and a little spacey so I'm a little off as far when things happened after that. She checked me at 1:00 am and I was still 2 cm but the baby had moved to station 0. The dr came in around 2AM and checked me and I was at 3cm. She asked me about the epidural and I told her I was concerned about stalling. She told me that they use different medications now and that it wouldn't slow down my labor. I decided then to have the epidural because the Dilaudid had not helped my pain much. Getting the epidural was unpleasant but pretty quick. I was able to lay on my side instead of having to sit up and DH held my hand. The anesthesologist touched my nerve when he placed the epi and it sent a couple of sparks down my left leg that felt like I had been shocked. It was a very brief sensation but quite unpleasant. I slept a lot from 2AM to 4AM. I do remember my dad and MIL were watching the monitor and kept saying here comes a one and wow that was a big one. I told them it was a good thing I had had drugs or they would be pissing me off. I could feel the pressure of the contractions but it didn't hurt. About 4AM I got nauseous. The nurse checked me and I was at 7 cm. She gave me some phenergan and I went back to sleep. At 5AM I woke up and had the shakes. The nurse checked me and said the baby's head was right there and I was 10 cm and ready to push. I couldn't believe it. I started pushing and Josh was born at 6:08 am. I had a small tear and the dr had to do an episotomy despite the fact the nurse had been doing perineal massage the whole time I was pushing. The episotomy has been somewhat uncomfortable but not nearly as bad as the csection incision recovery was. Other than being a little sore in my bottom and a little bit tired, I feel pretty good. I ended up gaining 15 pounds total. As of this am I was 6.5 pounds over prepregnancy weight. I need to lose another 30 to 40 pounds after I lose the pregnancy weight though. This week I am taking a break and eating what I want. After all our Thanksgiving festivities end on Friday, I plan on getting back on track starting Saturday. I'm going to try eating "good carbs" and just avoid stuff like refined carbs and junk food, potatoes, regular soda, fruit juice and see how it goes. I don't think I can handle induction or low levels of carbs along with sleep deprivation. If I stall out I |
