This information was posted on another board, it is from Mason, Sarah's husband.

Sarah wanted me to give everyone an update for her.
She was induced on Friday 11/12 at 5 am. She labored all day but wasn't making any progress. We decided to go for a C-section rather than risk wearing out mother or baby. Sarah made it through the operation without any problems and gave birth to Tanner at about 4:30 pm. He weighed 8lbs z.

Unfortunately on the way out he took a breath and filled his lungs with meconium. They did their very best to clean his lungs but he was still having a great deal of trouble breathing so he was rushed to the NICU with me. They worked on him for a few hours but he did not improve and they were forced to place him on a ventilator to help with his breathing.

Things were scary for awhile, but he seems to be doing much better now. His lung x-rays are starting to clear and his heart rate and blood pressure are improving. We were actually able to hold him for the first time last night. The doctors are hopeful that he will make a full recovery.

Sarah will be coming home on Monday. I'm sure she will tell you all much more when she gets back. I appreciate any support that you could give her. This has all been very hard on us both, and we are not looking forward to coming home without our baby. It will be some time still before he can come off of his ventilator and return home.

Thank You all very much,
Mason

Please continue with your prayers.
Praying everything turns out ok.

You'll all have to excuse me today. I'm feeling pretty zombie-like as I only got 5 1/2 hours of sleep and I had a carb fest of pizza yesterday when my parents were visiting. I'm gonna go drink lots of water now....

Ames, I hope you’re feeling better soon and you get caught up on your sleep. I simply do not function properly when I’m behind on my sleep. Hopefully that will change after baby!

Michelle, I am so sorry about all the BS you’re going through at work. You don’t need all the extra stress now… *hugs* How was your shower?

Dierdre, How does cord blood storage work? Do you have to pay monthly storage forever? And what if you move? I haven’t seriously researched this yet, probably because we’ll be moving back to the US, and I don’t even know if it’s available here…

Dena, cute! I made my first purchase last week, but shipped it to my parents house in Michigan. I ordered 4 onesies, a few bibs, a receiving blanket and a diaper bag from www.babystyle.com I love that place—the cutest things at really reasonable prices!

Sarah, I’m praying for little Mason to make a speedy recovery. I can’t even imagine how worried and stressed you must be! *hugs*

Dar, that dressing idea sounds fine. Have you felt baby yet?

Pregnancy wise, everything seems fine here. I’m managing to remember my vitamins a little better. Yesterday I vacuumed the yard for 4 hours and am totally stiff today. At least there won’t be so much spring cleanup next year though. It feels so good to accomplish something in the yard! The weather has been a bit better, but the topsoil is starting to freeze up. I wonder when our first snow will be…

Hope everyone is doing well!

Morning Ladies....

and thoughts to Sarah, Mason and Tanner. What an experience and hopefully their little one will be home with them soon.

My shower was fun. A few people were unable to attend due to illness, seems everyone I know is sick (even hubby's who's home sick today with me). But we had fun and I got some things that I need. Now we just have to go pick up our crib tomorrow night.

While the work situation is still a mess, I'm starting to feel better about it. I have a phone conf. with a lawyer today at 11am. I also spoke for 3 hours to our former Director of Nurses who was wrongfully terminated last week. Man did he enlighten me on some things. He has a lawsuit that is massive (he's literally documented/copied info. for the last year in case he was fired) of which there are 10 other employees, including myself, he is opening the suit to. Some of the things he told me seriously disturbed me and he has evidence I have been discriminated against and punished for reporting them to OSHA. He's also willing to testify to that on my behalf both of OSHA and in the suit. So I'm feeling a little less "alone" in this.

Pregnancy wise I'm doing fine. Was extremely tired yesterday after the shower. Baby is very busy this morning bouncing around so I went ahead and got up. Why always on the only day I can sleep in? LOL

Hope everyone has a great Monday....I'll check in later!

Good morning all~

Prayers to Sarah, Tanner and Mason.

Martha- Cord Blood storage works like a blood bank, but it's your own speciman they're storing. The first year in 1200.00 or so, but then the yearly storage fee after that is only 115.oo. To get the blood to the lab you have your praticitioner collect the blood in the special kit the company supplies you, then call the courier. The courier picks it up from the hospital and flies it to the lab. If you need the cord blood at any time, they have a special courier fly it to you, no matter where you are. The company I'm going with does send work with people internationally. If you're interested PM me. I'm doing it because there is a history of cancer in my husbands family. If anything were to happen to baby, husband or his parents, the cord blood would have the potential to treat them all.

Desperate- I'm glad to hear that there are other people now involved in your fight. It will make it easier in the long run.

I had an interesting weekend... I've been pretty sick over the past week. Well Saturday night started feeling not right. I called the Dr's office Sunday morning and off to the hospital I went. Who knew that being dehydrated could make you have contractions... The pumped me full of fluid, monitered the baby, gave me lots of medicine to stop the contractions and we were home last night, with everybody doing well.

MORAL OF THE STORY~ If you're sick, drink fluids even if you don't want to!!! It's important. ALSO- If you're not feeling "right" call the Dr. even if you don't want to. I didn't want to be a bother to anyone, but my husband made me call.... I had no clue that I was having contractions.

Hope everyone is doing well...

Dierdre

Lots of and for Sarah and Mason and Tanner! Glad to hear he's clearing up, but how scary! I hope he can come home soon.

Dierdre, how scary for you, too! I'll try to remember that!

Michelle, glad to hear things are moving along and seem to be going in the right direction. How frustrating.

Ames, I hear you on the pizza. We had it Saturday for our party, then had leftovers yesterday. DH feels worse than me.. he hasn't been eating carbs so it was truly a binge for him.

I'm not sure. Last night, I was working on my cross stitch (I'm SOOO woefully behind I'll never get them all done for Christmas, darnit), and felt this tap every once in a while. It was in my lower abdomen, and I'm not sure if it was just feeling my own pulse or what. I don't know where I'd feel it.. could it be anywhere? How do babies normally sit? Feet up, right? Who knows. How about you??

I feel like I was so produtive this weekend. DH and I got the flooring in the nursery done Friday. We got the house so clean Saturday.. it hasn't been this clean in a long time, and it felt good. Yesterday, I sorted through our file cabinet, which we're getting rid of, and was able to get rid of so much junk I consolidated two full drawers into one! It was a relief to get that done.. and then I was able to relax, watch football, and work on my XStitch. What a nice weekend.

Allibaba - The Playground is just another one of our many forums.....it's where we go to talk about anything outside of low carbing.....current events, opinions, fun, etc. This is the actual thread that I got the update from. It is possible there may be more updates in it....I think around page four or five is where I found it. They changed the rules a little bit about accessing the Playground...you've been a member long enough, you shoud be able to access it.

ChristinaK and KarateJen - coming down to the wire.....

Marthad - Thanks for the website....I hadn't heard of them and they look like they have neat stuff.

DesperateinFl - Whoo.....:hugesigh: at least you know it's not just you...sounds like this place is about to get knocked on their keister (sp) where they belong.

Nyanchan - Thanks for the advice.....I'm one of those who never wants to call........

Dar - Hope that baby starts kicking away! I'm so excited for you!!

Dar, I think I'm feeling baby sometimes, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm trying to needlepoint a belt for my hubby for Christmas, I'm only 1/2 way there! I need to get cracking too! Then, I ordered two stockings which I have to finish prior to baby's arrival, or I've been told I'll never finish them, and we spent like $300 on the patterns! Good motivation, huh!?

Stopping in to let SARAH know that I'm thinking about her and Tanner. I know how stressful it can be to have a baby in the NICU, thats where Cass spent her first 3 nights, under and oxygen hood. It won't be long and you'll be bringing your sweet baby boy home! WELCOME TANNER!! I can't wait to see pictures.

Big hugs and lots of prayers going out for Sarah and Tanner. Sorry to hear you guys are getting off to a bumpy start Take good care and drop in when you feel up to it.

Just got back from my first real appointment with my new OB. I really liked him A LOT!! Very nice guy, patient and full of info, didn't mind my questions and very pro "mom's the boss" on labor options. I'm so happy to be delivering at the new Birthing Inn in our community. I have heard nothing but raves about it. Even better, he didn't make me re-do all the bloodwork and pap since I just had them done in July and my sonogram last week was perfect. They gave me a huge bag of samples and goodies and reminded me to be sure to sign up for all the prenatal classes and workshops the Birthing Inn offers for after 20 weeks. Apparently they fill up fast. Definitely I'll be signing up for the exercise classes because my weight is definitely creeping up, although my heavy sweater and shoes on may have had something to do with that (or that's what I'm telling myself anyway).

Only weird thing was my blood pressure was really low -- only 98/60. Anyone know anything about low blood pressure in pregnancy? What's very odd about this is for the last 6 months it's been around 112/68 and 2 years ago it was 140/80 and dr. was threatening me with meds. Think I'll head off to research this. Doctor didn't seem concerned so I'll try not to stress about it.

I'll try to pop back in later for personals.

((hugs))

Meg, lately my bp has been really low, and dr. (not my ob) told me not to worry. In fact, she was a bit perturbed that I was concerned about it! She says, "many people would be happy with a bp like that!" Whatever.. my bp used to be 120/80 (about a year ago or so).. consistently. Then it went down to 110/70, last time I asked it was 98/65. Very weird.. but 'they' tell me not to worry. They also told me my thyroid was fine, even though they didn't do all the tests I asked for. Argh.

Miss Gigl - try a "hypotension pregnancy" search on google.

My problem had been high blood pressure.....but from nervousness. Hopefully, we are past all of that.

to Sarah, Mason and Tanner!

To those who were seriously LCing prior to pregnancy... were your families doing it too? My FH and daughter were (though my daughter had higher carbs than either of us), but now that I'm having a hard time sticking to it (potatoes potatoes potatoes!) I'm having a hard time making them stick to it too... my FH has already gained a few pounds and he doesn't have the excuse of being pregnant.

YEP! DH is having trouble sometimes. He's gained a few. Not alot, but a few. And he cheats alot more than he used to. He used to always cheat with way too much ice cream.. but now he buys regular ice cream "for me" (and I'm not even eating it!), then eats it all. And I won't mention our pizza binge we had this weekend when we had our party. And at the same time he's telling ME to watch what I eat because my hips came back? Give me a break! LOL...

Okay, question about ultrasounds...

For a normal pregnancy, is there a pretty average schedule when you might expect to receive one?

I called my insurance company, and they'll cover as many as my dr. feels are necessary, as long as he receives authorization. I feel like I received my last one way to early, only becuase I didn't know any better and he said go ahead and get one. So, now, I'm at 18 weeks and wanting to know what the sex is. My last one was at 14 weeks. DH wants me to get one so we can finish registering and wants me to do it NOW. I'm afraid it might be a little too soon to know the sex for sure.

Anyways, I might have to pay if my dr. doesn't get the authorization and I schedule it anyways. Just wondering what to do.

You should be getting the "big" u/s. Did your doctor mention scheduling you for one? Not sure how yours does it, but mine is done by an independent technician who comes to the hospital to do it. I had to make an appointment with the Tech and another with my doctor.

They usually do it around 18-20 weeks don't they? Where they check the heart, spine, sex...etc. ...looking for defects? I'm having mine Nov. 30th (18 weeks).

Well, I just called to try to schedule one. Unless there is a medical reason, since I've already had two, they can't schedule another one. However, she did reschedule my appointment for the same day the u/s dr. is there, so she said there's a chance I can convince him to let me have one and they can squeeze me in. We'll see... I may just go for the 3D one.

I feel so selfish.. but if I'd known I'd only get two, I would not have gotten the one at 14 weeks.

But is it not medically necessary at 18-20 weeks? I'm confused.....I guess it varies by doctor and policy. So, by their procedures....you wouldn't get another one the entire pregnancy?

Good afternoon to everyone!

My thoughts are with Mrs Sarah and her family today. Hopefully they will have baby Tanner home soon!

I had my first OB appointment today. They gave me a due date of 07/01/04, and put me at 7 weeks and a few days already. A full week ahead of what I thought. I am going for my "dating" ultrasound in the next few weeks. So far so good.

Happy Monday to everyone! This is always the worst day of the week for me.

Take care.

The Emergency Trip bag

It occured to me to post what I packed & what I wished I had packed to take with me on my recent adventure. I now have this bag packed and near the door, just in case!

Items:

1) Directions to the hospital (we forgot to bring these, thank goodness for the blue hospital signs!)

2) Insurance information
3) nightgown/comfortable clothes (in case you have to stay a really long time)

4) Snacks (for yourself or person with you, I brought protein bars & small bags of pretzels)

5) Socks (I needed them, my feet were frozen!)
6) Book, magazines, or other forms of entertainment. (I was having contractions reading Harry Potter)

7) Soft tissues (the ones at the hospital were like sandpaper)
8) Cell phone and charger
9) Cash- to get the car out of the parking garage and for food
10) Hard candy (I really wanted some to keep my mouth moist, they wouldn't give me anything to drink but ice chips!)

11) Sense of humour....

Mine would say:

9) Cash - to get the car out of the parking garage to go get food.

I told DH when I could finally eat after delivery, I wanted a Wendy's cheeseburger waiting on me.

I guess so.. I don't really know. I'll be 21 weeks at my next appointment. What I read online is that 18-20 weeks u/s is to check for abnormalities. Perhaps I should call the dr's office again? I'm not sure.
