Good morning ladies!

Thursday already...boy this week is just flying by. I was just thinking that the baby will be here in just a little over 3 months.....and 3 months ago is when my in-laws visited for a week and it doesn't seem like that long ago! It's funny how July crept by and seemed to never end (when I had the worst morning....ok, all day sickness), but the last 3 months have just sped by. I hope I'm ready for this....I really haven't thought too much about being a mom. I'm prepared for the lack of sleep, diaper changing and breast feeding...but am I ready to be a mom!

After being on the pill for almost 5 years I had one period before trying and then got pregnant on the first month of trying. I had to laugh about the comment from ChristinaK about being fertile mertile. When we started trying I was afraid it would take forever to get pregnant since I was on the pill so long....but since I got pregnant so fast I'm now a bit worried about round 2. We'd like to wait at least a year before TTC again, but I refuse to go back on the pill as it caused me a lot of problems with Candida and leg cramps...so we hope that condoms will work for a year. I can't believe I'm already worried about getting pregnant too fast again after stressing so much about not being able to conceive the one month we were TTC!

I plan on staying on Atkins OWL till I see a positive test result. I would like to lose a little more weight while trying. My doctor was ok with that. He said "Atkins works!". He also said that Curves was great too, but not to over do it.
I took the Atkins Basic #3 with an extra folic acid supplement until my first appointment. They told me to stop those because they are too high in vitamin A. It was only for 4 weeks so I'm not too concerned. I will probably go back to the Basic #3 after I'm done breastfeeding. I did try to go to prenatals after the first appointment, but the morning sickness hit strong and I didn't take anything for a few weeks and then started taking Flinstones children's vitamins much of the rest of the first trimester. After that I tried a few brands, but found the iron and dye made me feel worse. The GNC prenatals without iron worked great though and I took the SlowFE for my iron as it was better on my tummy. This month I've been taking the GNC prenatals with iron and they are fine.

Others may disagree here, but I would try to maintain your weight now. I'm really starting to think that I did myself a disservice by being in weight loss mode when I conceived. I'll admit that when the morning sickness struck I went from eating virtually no carb to all carb because that's all I could stomach.....but to gain 10 pounds in 4 weeks when I was throwing up almost everyday had to be more than just the carbs. I have a feeling if I would have spent the previous months maintaining, by body might not have freaked out as bad. It's almost like my body was saying "you ain't starving this baby". Not that I was starving....but eating less than 1400 calories and virtually zero carbs to eating every 2 hours and all carbs was definately a shock on my body. My goal after this pregnancy is to get back to 145-150.....10-15 pounds above what reached doing Atkins 72' before conceiving.... and then maintaing before getting pregnant again. I have a feeling I won't be gaining 10 pounds right away....but we all know how plans go, LOL!

Anyway....I've written about a book here. I'd better start doing some work now. Have a great day everyone!

Morning Ladies

Ames, wow! 3 months! Sorry about your DH and the leaves...I was raking them wet yesterday, I think the fresh air did me good even though it was misting. How did you learn to cut your hubby's hair? I used to cut my brothers when they were in high school/college...but they had those messy surfer cuts, so it wasn't so difficult...

Michelle, glad to hear your appointment went well, and that mean receptionist got her karmic reward....or whatever you call it. Good luck on the results.

mom2two, glad to hear your'e feeling better about the u/s, relaxed is a good state! Sorry about your in laws, though. Sometimes I don't understand how people can be so insensitive!

Littlebear, glad to hear you're feeling better!

Hi Emily!

Smiley, good luck!

Kelley, thanks for the tips on the bulbs, I've been mixing bone meal in with them. I think tulips are my favorite flower. Its totally exciting to think that when they start to come up baby will be here! That gift basket sounds awesome!

Sarah, hope all went well at your appointment and that things start up soon for you

Hi Suzanne

Jefinner, soup sounds yummy in this cold, wet weather.

Dar, how cool with your u/s! Isn't it weird that I'm 16 1/2 weeks, and your'e 14 1/2 and our due dates are only one week apart? I don't think I'll ever figure out the weeks...

Christina, glad you had a good appointment.

Alissaliz and good luck! I haven't taken the pill in a long time. We haven't had much trouble getting fertalized, though...3 out of the 5 months we tried, we succeeded...but two ended in m/c...Try not to worry too much

Hi Strawberry!

GoJackets, I hope that woman gets the picture! Amazing *shakes head*

Hi Meg, how are you feeling?

Vixen, you're preggie brain cracked me up! I had an u/s at 6 1/2 weeks, but I'd just had 2 m/c's...so far I've had 3, and due for another on Nov 2nd. Sometimes I wonder if so many is good...they say it's totally safe, but who has tested it extensively? Your doc will probably confirm your pregnancy with urine and blood tests, so you can start to believe it

Dierdre, hope you start to feel better. If I had a job like yours (exposure to lots of people and children) I think I would want a flu shot. Have you taken them in the past?

Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Tuesday I ended up sick as a dog. I think I might have experienced a migraine. It started with a splitting (worst of my life) head ache. I took a tylenol and managed to nap for a bit, but then I woke up and, ummm, ejected the tylenol. I felt better after throwing up, but basically felt horrible the whole day. The head ache was so bad it actually made me sick. It hasn't totally gone away, but at least it's bearable now.

Yesterday we had an appointment with my midwife. We heard the heartbeat for the first time, it was 156 bpm. Very exciting! She also swabed for Group B Strep, although I don't know why. Isn't only a danger during delivery? I know I demanded the test...but she's going to do it again around 35 weeks, and what's the point of taking a round of antibiotics now if I'm positive?! Any one know? Otherwise, all my blood work came back good, no diseases or RH problems. She offered to test me for hereditary clotting disorders, because I'd expressed concerns about it...but felt like I wanted to research it more first.

The bummer was she said no to any sort of sleeping aid and to my Tylenol Sinus...basically because she didn't know what it was. I'm pretty bummed about the sleeping pills, because I wake up at 2 am for about 3 hours at least 3 nights a week, and its starting to wear me out. On the other hand, she says absolutely no wine either...which I happen to think is OK, a glass now and then. I've only had a sip, because I'm so worried about everything, and have only taken 2, if you don't count the one the other day, tylenols, and only a half dose at that.

Well, I feel like I've just written a novel. Thanks if you made it all the way through!

I watched my MIL cut my husband's hair several times while we were engaged. Then after we got married I agreed to do his neck and sideburns and his mom did the whole thing in between for a few months. Then one day I got brave and did the whole thing and have been doing it ever since. Not to brag, but I do a pretty darn good job for not having any special training.

I got tested for the Group B strep when I was 10 weeks. Actually they tested me for a number of things, because I was having massive amounts of greenish discharge and vaginal itchiness. The group B strep is what I tested positive for. After a week of oral antibiotics the discharge decreased substantially and the itchiness went away. I don't think I will be tested again since I've tested positive already and the doctor said that I will be getting the antibiotic IV when I check into the hospital since I was positive. That's fine by me. I don't want my baby boy to get it! Anyway...hope that helps!

Hi Mommies,

No word from Lizzy?

Martha, I believe they do the strep B test early is in case you go into preterm labor. Then they will know to get you on IV antibiotics asap. Sorry to hear about your headaches. I had them a lot during the first trimester and I am having some doozies now. Gotta love those hormones.

Ames, breast feeding supposedly makes you less fertile if that is any consolation. A while back somebody on this board posted about an IUD that sounded really good. Wish I could remember what it was called. I thought about getting one until I found out it would only cost $1000 US to get my tubes tied. In the meantime, DH is responsible for birth control.

Hasta pronto,

Suzanne

Hi, girls, very busy again today, but I'll come back every so often.

Martha, did you ask about Tylenol PM? My ob said it was fine.

When I had a really bad headache last weekend, I finally gave up and resorted to caffiene. Not the greatest thing, but I don't drink coffee or anything, so a little won't hurt. I made myself a cup of tea and felt a little better. It was worth it.

Ames, you make an excellent point. I was in early OWL when we conceived, and put on 10 pounds VERY quickly. I don't know what I've gained so far, but it's tapered off to a more level gain. Like you, once ms kicked in.. it was all carbs, and still is mostly carbs.

I think someone needs to wake up Lizzy and SmileyAmy.. they've probably passed out from excitement.

Hi Mommies,

Well, I haven't read any posts since a week ago today, so sorry if I've missed any big news.

DH SWORE to me he posted last Friday afternoon, but it doesn't look like it made it to the right place (hmm , or anywhere for that matter).

Anyway, Henry Stewart was born last Friday (Oct. 15), at 8:31am. He weighed in at 8lbs 6 oz. Surgery went fine (the spinal kind of sucked but that was only for about 45 seconds).

We stayed in the hospital until Monday night, then came home and have been doing nothing except breast feeding and watching the RED SOX!!!!

I'm not supposed to drive for a couple of weeks so it's nice to just be with the baby. My hemoglobin also tested really low (I guess I'm pretty anemic from the surgery) and I have to take iron supplements twice per day in addition to continuing the prenatals, so I'm feeling really wiped out. Doc said that will last for a few weeks.

More later. Hope everyone is well.

LizzyD

Good Morning!

Alissaliz ~ I stopped taking the pill in November 2001 & we were TTC this one from that time until July 2004. I started charting in June 2003 & learned so much & I think it really helped me understand a lot of things. Someone here yesterday mentioned the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" & I would also highly recommend it. It is a very informative book & they also have a website, Ovusoft with information & even charting software. For free on-line charting, Fertility Friend is also a good site. I became a bit obsessive, so I charted with both softwares! I also took a prenatal vitamin for about 18 months before getting pregnant.

Martha ~ OMG, I'm so sorry about your headache! I have had migraines since I was a kid & they are no fun! Luckily I haven't had any "true" migraines since I've been pregnant this time, but I have been plagued by what I call "reglular" headaches. The last OB I saw (I see a different one each time, one of the joys of military medicine) didn't seem to take them very seriously; hopefully I won't see him again! Oh, on the sleeping aid issue, when I was still in Germany, the OB that I saw there told me to take 1/2 a Unisom tablet & Vitamin B6 for morning sickness, but I don't know if you have Unisom there. There is some info online about it, & it always specifies that the Unisom be "plain", apparently there is more than one type. Since it is technically a sleep aid, I thought it may help you if you have it there (& of course get the midwife to OK it!)

Hi Ames!

Hi Suzanne!

Well, I'm off to wash the dishes (I miss my dishwasher!) I'll try to be back later. Hope you all have a good day!

Oops, you guys snuck in & posted while I was posting!

Hi Darlene ~ Sorry you're having headaches, too! Sad to say, I also gained 10 lbs very quickly in the beginning, but luckily it tapered off. It must be the carbs!

LizzyD ~ Congratulations! Henry Stewart! Hope you're feeling better soon!

I wish I could be more technical. Maybe someone could help me out with this one. But not too long ago I read a post on the these threads (somewhere...but can't remember where) about how the body and liver work when you first go low carb and when you first go off of low carb. It was something about the glycogen that your liver stores and something about water. But the thing I do remember is that this process is responsible for you losing up to 10lbs during your two week induction. I also remember the post stating that the opposite occurs when you stop low carbing.

So maybe the 10lb gains some of us had are because of this process?

I wish I could be of more help, but you know I have major preggo brain lately. I am amazed I remember that much.

Henry Stewart and Congrats LizzyD!!!

Good morning ladies!!

We went to our doctor appointment yesterday. All is going well! They did the ultrasound. We didn't get pictures again. He is just too big and there were no good shots. He is facing my back so we couldn't see his face or anything. Anyway, they estimate his weight at 6 1/2 pounds! Doc says that's right on target. I'm 36 weeks, and his head is still measuring big! It's measuring 39 weeks, 2 days... His heartrate was great, 140 bpm. My fluid levels are good. Overall I'm measuring about a week ahead. Mason has said all along that he thinks I am a week further along than I am, so who knows!

He checked my cervix. Um.... OW! Holy moly that is an intense exam. He had to reach WAY up there to feel it. He said I am starting to dialate but am not even 1 cm yet. He said I'm right on track with that as well.

They tested me for Group B Strep... I should have the results at my appt. next week.

So... now we wait! I have another appointment next week and we'll see if anything has progressed.

Ames: Time does fly, doesn't it!! It's amazing!!

Martha: I'm so sorry about your headache. I have migraines and it sounds like that's exactly what you had. I hope you get to feeling better!

Suzanne, Dar, blueeye, MarriedinSept, and Jen: Hi!

HENRY!!! That's my hubby's name!

MARTHA - I'm so sorry about your headache!

BLUEYEDGIRL - Wow... You tried for a while... That must've been hard. I've also heard MANY good things about "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"... Both for TTC and T NOT TC!

DAR - I'm such a doofus. It took me a while to get the "wake up SmileyAmy and Lizzy" comment. DING DING DING! Red Sox!! LOL!

SUZANNE - I wasn't one of those that got less fertile with BF'ing - LOL! Although, I hear it rings true for MANY women. But, you must be able to BF all the time. I was also pumping at work, and it's not quite the same thing.

AMES - You are brave. Hank has asked me to cut his hair, and I flat REFUSE!

Well, things are good here! Had more soup last night. Well, I made a white bean chicken chili. SOOOO GOOD! Man, am I cravin' the soups or what? Now if I only craved that and not cereal too.

Question! Can you provide breast milk to your little one by exclusively pumping? My reason for asking.. I have VERY sensitive skin, and have to use a cream and special lotions just to help keep my nipples healthy. I'd love to bf, but understand it might not be possible. However, I'd prefer breast milk over formula. If you only pump, do you produce enough milk? Just wondering if this is a possibility. I see the dermatologist today, but I don't have high hopes.

Jefinner, I'm also eating soup alot. NOT making it, though! LOL.. I find it's easy to eat, doesn't upset my tummy, and the varieties are endless. I missed soup on LC.

Hi Ladies,

CONGRATS LIZZY!!!! Welcome Henry Stewart!!! I can't wait to see pictures!!

Not much to report here. I'm feeling good so far, just some heartburn today. I should have my HCG & Progestrone counts back this afternoon. Hopefully they will be fine.

Ames, my doctor said the same thing about Atkins 3 my last pregnancy. So, I switched over to Cal-Nate and I really like it a lot.

Martha, my husband and Inlaws are French and we'll be over there for Christmas. It will be interesting to see what the local theory is on wine for pregnant women. On our past trips there we drank A LOT of wine. I suspect I'll have a half glass every few days but it's going to be very difficult!!

Suzanne: Do you know if it's safe to dive when breastfeeding or is it just during pregnancy it should be avoided?

Hi MarriedinSept and Dar20!

Blueyedgrl: Wow, I thought I was bad just using Fertility Friend, using both IS hardcore but I'm almost sorry I didn't think of it myself!!

Karatejen: I put on 10 pounds instantly when I got pg last time and went from 30 carbs a day to about 100. This time I was in maintenance mode when I got PG and I'm watching things more closely.

Sarah: Glad your appt went well. You sound SO CLOSE!!!

Jefinner: OK you made me crave soup. I'm gonna make some tonight for dinner.

Greetings to everyone I missed!!

Meg

Welcome Henry Stewart!

Hello ladies!!!

I'm bummed today. My cat had his surgery and looks pretty bad (he should be fine), and I FEEL NO SYMPTOMS!!!!!

I'm upset, but I don't know if it is because of hormones, my cat or no symptoms.

DH said I should call the doctor for reassurance, but I'm determined to stick this out. Let's just say worse case, I lose another one....there is nothing they can do about it to prevent it, and I'd want it to happen naturally OR the baby is perfectly fine, and I am a freak.

Two more weeks. I can make it!!!

Dena ~ I am so sorry about your kitty. I know how hard it is to have a pet be in pain and because they can't tell us what to do or how they feel, you are in a state of confusion and sadness. to you AND your kitty.

MarriedInSept said the same thing to me - and isn't it sad that I have no idea what my temp going up again means!! She said it was a good thing, but I have no idea why. I am due for AF tomorrow or Saturday.

I'm getting here late...we had rain all day and night, and they told us to expect 2 feet of snow this morning, but it looks like it's only at about 9000 feet, so it missed us! That's s good thing. I hate when it snows on the trick-or-treaters, poor kiddos! Did anyone see the segment on 60 Minutes last night about vaccines? Interesting.

Lizzie~Congrats! Thanks for checking in! We were worried! Henry! That's a great name!

Suzanne~I saw your post about DH's cholsesterol on the main forum yesterday. My DH got his tested before Atkins and after about 6 months on Atkins (it takes awhile to regulate, I hear that if you test it like after a month of Induction it will be high or higher). At the 6 month mark, my DH's LDL (the bad cholesterol) hadn't decreased THAT much, but it had decreased, but his HDL (the good stuff) really increased, and so that changes the overall ratio, which his doctor was really happy with. He hasn't had it tested in about a year, but has kept his weight off. Now I'm curious.

Dierdre~I decided to get the flu shot, after much research and agonizing. They say the flu originates every year in CHina, so if you are greeting people from all over the world it is probably a good idea. I fly a lot, so decided to get it for that reason. I was most concerned about the thimerosol (mercury derivative), but my doctor explained you would get more mercury by eating four cans of albacore tune in a week. That put it into perspective. I was sleepy afterward, had a headache, and felt queasy. I never had a fever. My grandma reported the same thing. The biggest risk of flu during pregnancy is the high fever that comes along with it. WHen I worked out a lot during my first tri, I would take my temp after every workout, and it was about 100.5-101, but would go down quickly. All my books say it's dangerous for the baby if your temp is over 101.5, which it would surely be with the flu. Also, being PG, we can't take much to alleviate symptoms if we get the flu. Those were my reasons.

Desp~I'm still gloating over the receptionist's new job, LOL. I got my frist U/S at 10 weeks, and my second at 13 weeks, and they were able to tell it was a girl. The tech I had seemed really good and confident, plus I wonder if they had a better U/S machine than the regular doctor's office because it was at the perinatologist's.

Dar~Soupl sounded really good to me too with M/S. Campbells now has "Carb Requests" or something. I just went for the chicken noodle.

Dena~ Sorry about your kitty. Please try not to worry about no symptoms; they come and go! I started to feel kicking weeks ago, but as she moves around she gets in positions where it's really hard to feel much of anything. I guess we just have to deal with this uncertainty. I can't wait till you are on our 2nd tri list!

Meg~My good friend is French and she had wine and champagne throughout all her PGCYs. Also soft cheeses and foie gras. (Now I'm making myself hungry). That should be fun!

Hi MarriedinSept,KarateJen, and BlueEyedGrl!

Sarah~Sounds like your appointment went GREAT! Eek big head! LOL.

Jeffinner~That chili sounds good! Especially since it turned cold here.

Ames~I agree the time is flying by!

Martha~I'd second the suggestion for Unisom if you can get it. Maybe they market the active ingredient under a different name over there? I will check my box. It's a class A drug (the safest).

Kelley

Smiley~WooHoo, look at the temps!
