Good morning ladies!
Got some potty problems I'm not sure what to do about. When I was taking the Zofran and living on carbs when the morning sickness was bad I had terrible constipation most of the time. Since I quit the Zofran my stools have been rather soft and I've even started taking iron supplements too and I thought for sure those would bind me up. Well, on the days that I do really well low carb I end up with diarreha now. On days that I've had grains my stools are soft but more normal, but then I feel bloated and retain fluid terribly so I've tried to stay away from the grains so I'm not sure what to do. Is there anything short of metamucil or cheese that would harden my stools more (metamucil I'm sure would give me that bloated feeling and cheese sounds gross to me right now for some reason)? I guess I shouldn't complain too much because I'm not getting cramping or gas...but I hate having diarreha at work you know? I'm sure having diarreha all the time ain't good for the baby getting nutrients either.Any suggestions? Ames |

Ames....sorry to hear your having potty issues. I had them my first trimester as well. Anything I ate gave me diarrhea and I had intestinal issues that remained after my first pregnancy. For me personally, a banana in the morning makes a world of difference. Took my doctor and I awhile to figure that one out, but now I don't miss my banana unless I must. Was hard LC'ing without 'em but everything works itself out in the end. Make sure you're drinking a ton of water because the loose stools will dehydrate you faster.
Fell asleep early again last night. I was waiting and waiting to watch Apprentice and *zzzzzz* off I went around 8:30. I know it was due to more work stress yesterday. I literally ended up in the bathroom at work crying while text messaging my hubby, pathetic I know. I think the emotional hormones are kicking in for me and some of our residents I work with can be so verbally abusive, that I'm finding it harder and harder to let it roll off my back. Let alone feel my pregnancy is 100% safe and I'm supported by Administration. But I need the job until she arrives and I've earned 6 weeks paid time off that I'll need so I must grin and bear it. At least I'm rested....and will be in the AC for a meeting all morning today. I MUST remain awake tonight as I've been on pins and needles waiting for the Presidential debates and I'll be bummed if I fall asleep again tonight and miss the first. Hope all is well with everyone....and hoping we meet some babies soon!!! |

I would love to try the bananas, but I had some about 3 weeks ago for about 4 days in a row and had the worst indigestion and heartburn....I don't get it....I can eat tomato sauce with no problem, but bananas and yogurt bring on the fire. ![]() Ames |

Morning! I'm sorry about the potty problems Ames!! I can't get any rhyme to my system. Sometimes I can't go for a few days, and sometimes I'm up in the middle of the night two or three times. Bananas and heartburn? Wow!! Did it happen just the one time you tried them? Did you have anything else that day that might have triggered it?
Mom2TwoBoys - I've actually had 2 u/s's. One at 7 weeks and one at 9 weeks. I'm not sure why my dr. has been good about u/s's. It's a small community hospital. Maybe it varies by doctor. Generally on you first appointment, they give you one to confirm pregnancy. Some offices don't see you before 8 weeks. My office hasn't set any guidelines like that. So when you go back for your 8 week visit and bloodwork, they do another u/s as standard. Plus, since I lost one in May, she (my dr.) knew I wanted some reassurance. I don't go back for 4 1/2 weeks, but if I was freaking out about it, they would see me sooner.

There wasn't anything different I had to eat on those days and the day I dropped them....no more heartburn! Actually, I think they caused indigestion which led to the heartburn...if that makes any sense. Ames |

Ames~you have been having almost the same problems I had at the same times. The first trimester I was miserably constipated no matter what I ate. Then the second trimester, I turned completely opposite where everything was loose no matter what I did. Now I am in my third trimester and I am leaning back towards constipation (not there yet...but it seems like it is going there). I really didn't find a correlation between what I ate and my BMs. I just wanted you to know that you weren't alone.

Bouncing Baby Boy!!!
Good morning everyone.
This is Kristen's hsband, Shawn. She asked that I post for her, as she is still in the hospital. Our son, Alexander Jude, was born yesterday at 8am. He was 5 lbs, 13 oz and was 19.5 inches long. Baby and mother are both happy and healthy and I hope to have them home by Sunday. Good luck all to all of you mothers(expectant and otherwise). |

Alexander and Congrats to Kristen and Shawn!!! I was not in my best form last night. Took both dogs to agility class since Tuesday was cancelled.. it was stressful. They were stressed, I was stressed, and I was tired, and had a short temper. Not a good combination. I was screwing up left and right and getting so frustrated with myself. I don't get mad at the dogs, but was down on myself. I need to make sure I get a good night's sleep Friday night.. Caena's first trial is this weekend! I'm so nervous. Had an okay night's sleep.. slept funny so now my back hurts, and hubby kept tossing and turning. I'm at that stage now where my clothes don't quite fit, but maternity clothes are way too big. It sucks! My wardrobe gets smaller and smaller each day. Hello to everyone! |

Yay for Kristen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ames - I have a bowl of shredded wheat, the kind with no sugar in it, with splenda everymorning, keeps me quite regular...... Desperate - Sorry about your cruddy work day, i have had days like that......... All women - hello you gain weight when your pregnant, your hips get bigger, duh to the men, Just say to them, what did you think was going to happen, i was going to carry a baby for 9 months and not get any bigger!!!!!!!!!!Speaking of bigger - I have had it with carrying this baby around. I feel like a huge whale. I cannot wait to exercise and diet again........ Not hard core diet, but watch what i eat and be able to lose weight becasue i am no longer pregnant. I so hope to be back where i was by Thanksgiving....... I dread seeing what i will look like the first few weeks after giving birth, ahhhhhhh!!!!!!! But at least i will feel like i can lose weight, i swear right now i could eat nothing and still hold or gain............ Well, I have a stress test at 2:00 then back home. I will post then. I don't think he's coming out before Monday, and Sunday is my 27th BDAY, nothing like spending your special day feeling like Shamu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Alexander! Congrats Kristen, Shaun and Jessica!
LittleBear~Wow, your birthdays will be so close, maybe on the same day! You look great, that would be amazing to be pre-baby weight by Thanksgiving! How much did you gain this pregnancy? (If you don't mind me asking, that is. I'm a little self-conscious because I've quickly put on 10 lbs. in six weeks. Can't keep that up! )Ames~Shredded wheat is a great idea. How about flax meal or All Bran? Maybe it was the spaghetti squash that went right though! Dar~I'm at an awkward stage right now too. I'm going to Target this afternoon to check out the preggo wear. I know they have a lot of stretchy stuff. Right now I really need pants. BTW: Doggie is on the mend (I think! ). Good luck to Caena this weekend!Dena~That's cool that you have such a supportive doc. Have you thought about renting a home doppler to hear the HB? Desp~I worry about you! I hope you are safe. It's probably the hormones that exacerbate the comments, but still no fun. I can't wait to watch the debates tonight either. This election is such a toss-up poll-wise. I hate polls. I watched "Lost" last night and it was surprisingly good! They will have reruns of the first two episodes this Saturday, I think. Hi Sept and KarateJen! BBL Kelley

WELCOME ALEXANDER!!!!
You know what’s funny!? I always thought I had IBS. During all my teen years and young 20’s and such, I was never regular. Then when I went on Atkins, everything was fine. Still didn’t figure it out. (LOL!) My midwife and I finally figured out (okay, my midwife figured it out) that I have a wheat intolerance. If I eat crackers or bread or anything with wheat… I’m gassy, and I can’t “go” for a couple days. I HATE THAT!!! I guess we’re all different. As long as I stick with meat and veggies (and fruits and beans now), I’m good. LITTLE BEAR – It will take a little while, but all the weight will come off. Especially if you’ve kept your weight down. (Not like me who gained 57 pounds the first time, and 45 the second…) Still, I lost 30 pounds in the six weeks after they were born. Admittedly, after that… It takes some work. About appointments and U/S’s… Every doctor is different. When I was pregnant with Allison, they didn’t even see me until I was three months along. (Of course this was 9 years ago…) The last time around, I went through a midwife, so they don’t do an U/S, unless it’s necessary, or you request one. MICHELLE – Glad you got some rest. Rest is much better than TV! ![]() Man, did I want marinara sauce last night. So, I made chicken parmesan without the breading. It was pretty good, and hubby gobbled it all up. It felt weird eating last night, though, because our landlord and an electrician were working on the outlets at dinner time. But, we couldn’t just skip dinner. (Okay, so maybe I should’ve, but the kids have to eat! LOL!)

Good morning ladies...I'm with you all about the weight gain. I'm not even gonna mention how much I've gained! Plus the fact that I still have 3 months to go! UGH!! Oh well, atleast I will have the whole NEW YEAR to get the motivation I need to lose the baby weight! Oh well...like you all said...that is what happens when you are pregnant!! Everything else here is good. Weather is looking yucky today...was hoping to get a long walk in!
Ames--Sorry about the bathroom issues....I wish I knew something that could help!! DIF-You must need the sleep if you are falling asleep so early!! Just enjoy it...here pretty soon you might not be able to! Hopefully you can stay awake tonight! That's funny that you get to be in the A/C today...we are wearing sweaters and jeans here! GoJackets-Good morning!! It is a bummer when you are in the inbetween stages of clothes! Jen-Good morning!! BabyBlue-CONGRATULATIONS ON A HEALTHY BABY BOY! Tell mommy we all say hello and glad everything went well! Dar-Sorry about the hormones!! I hate them. All part of it though!! Good thing hubby hasn't said anything like that to me...I'd probably slap him! I just bought some jeans (or whatever you need for the season you are in) that were a size or two bigger...because you will need them as you are losing your baby weight anyway!! Hello to all who come after me!! GET SOME EXERCISE and DRINK YOUR WATER! |

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I think that I'm like Jefinner. Had what I thought were IBS problems before Atkins and then always regular with no problems on Atkins. All grains I've tried (wheat, oats, flax, etc) make me feel bloated and make me retain fluid. I've been dealing with the diarreha and/or really soft stools now for almost a month (since I've been off the nausia medicine), so I know it's not the spaghetti squash.
The few days that I have had grains my stools aren't as soft, but then I'm miserable with the bloating and fluid retention. Thanks karatejen for letting me know I'm not alone. Hopefully it'll balance out soon. Ames |

So, ladies ~ A lot of potty talk today...if it makes you feel any better, I am really gassy today for some reason. Ugh.
Anyway... Ames ~ Hope you get regular soon and find something that helps with that. Michelle ~ I am sorry you had a break down yesterday. It sucks when you are having a bad day at work and you feel like you are going to break down infront of everyone. I have done it - believe me. Stay safe... Hey Dena and Jen! Kristen!! Welcome Alexander Jude - so little!! Can't wait to see pictures!!MarriedInSept ~ Hi! Darlene ~ Sorry you had a bad night with your pups. They must have been so sad to see you flustered. But, they love you anyways, right? Amy ~ I hope something happnes soon. You must be dying right now...Good luck at your doctors appt. Hi Madame! Jennifer ~ Ooo, your dinner last night sounds yummy...Mmmm. Hi GetNSlim! Okay, so another charting question...I have notice that the past few days my temp has been exactly the same - is this normal? 97.70 is the temp I have been getting. I am afraid something is wrong with my thermometer.

Thanks, Amy. Yeah, when I get upset, they get more stressed. They can sense it. Molly was SUPER happy with her birthday present, though. We got her a monkey that makes monkey sounds (instead of just squeaking). It's SO annoying, but she loves it, and she KNOWS it's hers. She played keep away from her sister all evening and even this morning.
I think it's normal your temps are the same. You're better off than me.. mine were all over the chart! If you have a regular mercury thermometer, you can check against it a few times a day just to be sure. My version of IBS pre-Atkins was different. I'd eat something (never did take the time to figure out what caused it), I would have to run to the restroom within half an hour, if not sooner. It was awful. Since getting pregnant, I've had the opposite problem until I started eating my cereal. Even with eating things that I think triggered before.. potatoes, bread.. I haven't had the problem. I think because I'm not eating the quantity I ate before. I haven't done FitDay in a while, but I figure I'm about 100 carbs/day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Kelley, glad to hear puppy is feeling better!!! Last edited by Dar20 : 09-30-2004 at 09:17 AM. |

Smiley- Those are called flat temps. Make a smooth little line on your chart. I see lots of charts like that. I on the other hand, as you can see from my chart have Rocky Mountain temps. They go up and down and up and down. UGH! They seem to really be bouncing up and down this month. Post a link to your chart and I'll take a look!
