Good morning ladies!

Praying for labor for our overdue mommies SOON!

My husband bought me a spaghetti squash today and it is huge! I hope it fits in the microwave. I'm gonna have to freeze some of it. Not much else to say today I guess.

Have a happy hump day everyone!

Morning everyone!

Ames, spaghetti squash sounds good! I don’t think I can get them here, though….maybe some other sort of squash, though.

Lizzy, thanks for the tip on the Honda, I’m looking into it!

Dar, I’m beginning to fear induction, the more I read, the more it seems to be a vicious cycle of break waters—still going slowly?—start pitocin—oh, too much pain now?—get an epidural—oh no, baby’s heart rate is going crazy (because of the epidural)—better do an “emergency” c-section.

Pauline, I hear you on the bad system. It’s like that here, only you are guaranteed to have a stranger for delivery. I’m going to try to hire a doula to help thwart any issues that come up. Maybe you can try that next time… (I thought you were from LA too!)

Kristin, Good Luck!!

Christina, that’s crazy about your dietitian! Can you get a different one who is easier to work with? If someone said to me what she said to you, I would probably have a bit of a breakdown!

Suzanne, I had a friend in CT who would not consider getting pregnant until she found a doctor that agreed to do a c-section no matter what. When I saw her last month, after the birth, she confided to me that the only reason she demanded one was b/c of a rape she had endured in the past. But I do know a lot of women who want to keep their female parts unchanged… Hope all went well at the midwife!

I’m supposed to go to a book club meeting tonight, but I’m not sure I feel like driving to a new place in town in the dark…we’ll see. Other than that today is my “go to the big nasty store for toilet paper” day. *daydreams about Charmin*

Hi to all to come!

*mails marthad a case of Charmin*...can't imagine going with nasty toilet paper. I get enough of the "institution quality" stuff at work, ewww.

All's well here. I meant to pop in last night and catch up on yesterday's thread to write some personals today. But ummm....I fell asleep at 8:30 last nite. YIKES! I'm sure it's from the heat/humidity and stress levels at work but we did get AC back in our building yesterday. YAAY for those who get to enjoy it LOL...still keeps me outside. Thankfully Sept. is almost over and soon we should be looking at cooler weather!

Curious to know when you last trimester ladies had the whole "going to bed early/always tired" syndrome kick in. I'm starting to wonder if I'll have the energy for holidays, shopping, preparing, cooking and baby stuff before this lil one arrives. In a way I'm kinda' glad we only have me, my hubby and son at XMas time...we have no family whatsoever in our state and the parentals are coming down after she's born to help out. So maybe that'll help with it being small.

Still praying for those mom's who are expecting any day!!! And g'luck to Kristen today!!!

Morning all!

Still pregnant Even the full moon couldn't help me!!!!!!!!

Martha - Keep looking into that Honda! I have read some of the same horror stories regarding induction on the net, which is why i am nervous, but what else am i supposed to do if the kiddo won't come out on his own? I suppose i could wait till he comes on his own, but i feel in my heart he would either then be too big or it would get dangerous for him to stay in past 42 weeks.....

Desperate - I started getting the constant tired thing about 3 weeks ago. But there were still spurts throughout the day when i could get something done. Youl will still have energy to get through the holidays, but you might have to prioritize.... and you need your sleep.

Metroames - yum yum, send me some.

Suzanne - Hope you get labor or 2 cms......

Be in later today

Amy

Hi, girls, can't stay long.. couldn't pee last night. I mean, I'm talking a couple drops and that was it. I was able to finally get a trickle this morning by leaning back as far as I could. DH suggested standing up... when you have a 'shy' bladder to begin with, that is too hard! OB's office opens in 5 mins, so I'm calling him. Called my PCP, they said to talk to him.

* sigh *

Morning Mommies -

Good luck Kristen!!

Blowing labor dust to ALL those waiting at the top of the list!

Hope all the FL mommies came through ok. We're getting the remnants of the most recent storm up here in Boston now (I think it's Jeanne)

Hey Ames - I hear about spaghetti squash all the time, but I've never actually seen one. How exactly do you cook it so that you feel as though you're eating real spaghetti?

Christina - you should fire the dietician from hell, let her know why, and let your doctor's office know why. Thanks to Dr. A you know how to keep your blood sugar steady. I would just do maintenance levels of Atkins, cutting back a little on the animal fats an replacing them with some more monounsaturated fats (cooking and salad dressings done with olive oil and peanut oil, etc.) with carbs coming only from high calcium dairy products (like Hood Lo-Carb Milk, yogurt, etc.), and extremely low-glycemic fruits, veggies and whole grains, nuts, etc., enter it all on FitDay, chart your glucometer results and show it all to you doc at the next appointment. What can they complain about. Tell them this is what you can stick to without gaining 1,000 pounds and making yourself sick. The worst thing that can happen is that you and the Doc agree to disagree. Good luck!

Martha - I think it was LittleBear who suggested the Honda (I found it too small for 3 kids plus cargo). I suggested looking into the Nissan Armada if you can't find an Infiniti dealer over there. Good luck on the car search. It can be fun but also frustrating. BTW, you've got the induction railroad down pat. That's exactly what often happens. If the body is not ready to go, then it ain't gonna go. What book are you reading for the book club?

DespFl - I started getting REALLY tired around week 33-34. You sound as though you have an awful lot on your plate, even with NO family visiting for the holidays. My personal policy is to clear the decks for at least 4 weeks straight around the due date. I don't agree to any social engagements, school volunteer activities, etc. for the four weeks around the birth. You need to sleep, eat, drink, nest and avoid stress. That's where I start my list of priorities, and most everything else falls to the weighside. I've discovered the rest of the world survives without me quite well I even turn off my phone and record an outgoing message that says something to the effect of:

"Hello, the baby isn't here yet, but we will record another message when he/she arrives, so please feel free to call this machine back and check. Also, please leave a message at your own risk. We're sure you'll understand if we don't get back to you until next year some time, he he he "

Most people really cut you a break during this time of life. Take advantage of it!

Dar20 - sorry about the peeing situation. I've felt like that more and more toward the end of this pregnancy. I'm sure it's just the position of the baby. You should check anyway though. Let us know what the Doc says.

Hello to all those who sign on later!

Regards,
LizzyD

Hello ladies...

Ames ~ I haven't ever had spaghetti squash - bought one once but never cooked it. I heard it is a lot like the real thing.

Martha ~ Um, hope you get your Charmin soon!

Michelle ~ So, do you at least feel rested after going to bed so early? I hope so...

Amy ~ Hoping today is the day!

Darlene ~ I hope this whole "pee" thing gets cleared up soon. You must be so uncomfortable.

Lizzy ~ Do you really have that message on your answering machine?? Oh, and isnt' the rain here in MA nasty? I can't stand this - I couldn't even imagine living in FL when this came through.

So, question...is it bad that I didn't take my temp this morning? DH and I overslept and before I knew it I was freaking because he had to leave in like 10 minutes. Then I remembered that I was supposed to take my temp right when I get up - I figured that I was way to wound up to take my temp. Is this going to screw me up big time??

Talk to everyone later.

Praying for Suzanne too...

Good morning, ladies. I'm sitting here just WISHING I could eat something. I am so hungry, but I can't eat anything because of the glucose testing! Oh, well...all to ensure the baby is okay. MORE WATER! MORE WATER!!

Amers-I love spaghetti squash with marinara on it. Mmmm...I think I might have that for lunch!!

LittleBear-Hoping your baby comes soon!!

DIF-Yay on the AC...too bad you don't get to use it!!

Marthad-Ewwww...I'm feeling for ya on the toilet paper issue!!

Lizzy-I like your idea about the answering machine. I might just have to try that!

Dar-Hope you get everything worked out at the doc's!!

Hello to all who come in after me. I'll be back to post after my doctor's appointment!! Talk to you all later!

Good Morning!

~*~*~*~*~L A B O R V I B E S~*~*~*~*~
To those who need them today! Suzanne and LB, that's you! Good luck Kristen!

Well, I went to the dermatologist yesterday and he did decide to remove the mole I was concerned about. I'm really fair and many people in my family have had skin cancer issues. He used lidocaine. Turns out it's a class B drug. I had researched it before I got there. He said if I was still in the first tri he would have told me to wait, but it's the same anesthetic that dentists use, and sometimes PG ladies need root canals and such, except he used a mere fraction of what they would use. I still feel bad about it though. I found this great resource for drugs during PG:
http://www.perinatology.com/exposures/druglist.htm

I am hearing such mixed signals about the flu shot! The CDC recommends that all PG women get one, but my friend's OB said they wouldn't give a baby under 6 months the flu shot, so why subject your unborn baby to it? I also can't confirm if they preserve it with mercury still or not. If I worked around kids, I would strongly consider it. I do fly a lot, though. I have gotten it the last three years and never had the flu, but I don't think I got the flu before then either. I just felt so bad about the miniscule amount of lidocaine yesterday, I know I'd fret worse about the flu shot.

That said, I did sleep very well! DH was gone, so I slept in the middle of the bed. Very comfortable!

Ames~Squash is so good for you! You could bake it all at once and then freeze some of your mongo squash. Was it from a farmer's market? Any more hurricanes on the horizon?

Martha~Good luck on the TP quest. I love acorn squash. Do they have that there? I remember paying about $50 in Paris for a real pumpkin around Halloween so we could make a jack o'lantern once. It took days to even locate one, LOL. They just cut them up and sell the wedges. How do you make a jack o'lantern from that? About the car thing (and I missed some episodes) How about a Saab wagon? Don't they make them there? We test drove a wagon last year and it was nice and spacious.

Dar~I'm sorry about the peeing thing. It does sound like baby is sitting on your bladder instead of an infection, but you're wise to call your OB. When I feel that baby is in an uncomfortable position for me (usually right when I wake up) I get on my hands and knees and kind of arch and hump my back a few times. Hets her off the owie parts most of the time. Good luck!

Hi Lizzy! Sorry you have rain today. We do too.

Kelley

LIZZY - Spaghetti squash is a fall squash that is oval and yellow. It's really hard on the outside. You cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, cook it (I bake it face down on an oiled cookie sheet for about an hour on 350.), and scrape the meat out with a fork. It comes out in strings. It's not just like spaghetti by any means, but I really like it.

LITTLE BEAR - At least there is an end in sight!!! Hopefully, your little one comes before then, but if he doesn't... You know when you can expect him!

MARTHA - I haven't had a flu shot in years. I don't get them, because I rarely get the flu, and when I do, it doesn't last too long.

GETN - Sorry you can't eat!

AMY - I'd help, but I know nothing about charting.

MICHELLE - In the first and last trimester you are ALWAYS TIRED!!! LOL!

AMES - I love spaghetti squash! YUM!

Last night, I made some lentil soup for the first time, and it was SOOO GOOD! It was so filling too. DH ended up finishing mine, because I couldn't eat it all.

I also had to take Miss Anna to get her immunizations. I hate that. I know they're for the best, but I still hate watching her get poked.

LOL, I've got to disagree with you ladies about Charmin. That stuff might be soft, but it leaves stuff behind that makes me itchy! I used to use Angel Soft, because it was soft, but it didn't leave lint behind...but then they changed it and now it's as worthless as Charmin. I've been using Big Roll lately and have been very happy. I'll take the "institution quality" stuff anyday!

I take it and poke it with a fork a hundred times...throw it in the microwave about 15-20 minutes for a small to medium squash till it cuts easily with a knife...then I slice it in half...scoop out the seeds....then take a fork and scrape the "spaghetti" out and eat with sauce and parmesan cheese...yum!

I'm gonna have to freeze a bunch of it...this thing is huge and has been cooking for over 20 minutes and is still not done!

Lisa it the only tropical system out there that I know of....however, this is the time of year to be looking for development closer to home in the gulf and Carribean...so it wouldn't take long for something to brew and cause problems.

Well, I'm gonna go divi up my squash...I'll check back in a bit!

Hi again

Michelle, thanks for the thought!

Dar, I hope everything is OK.

Hi Lizzy, I just joined the book club, so I didn't read this month's book...I think it was "Under the Duvet" I love your voice mail message!!

Smiley, I don't know anything about charting. I went straight to the Clear Plan Fertility Monitor and watched my cycle for about 8 months before we started to try. It says not to, but we used it (successfully) as contraception too.

GetNSlim, hope the glucose test goes well!

Kelley, no kidding! $50 for a pumpkin! I haven't tried to buy one here...yet. Last thanksgiving though, I wanted to make pumpkin pie, and it cost something like $25 for the ingredients to the simple back of the can recipe! Pumpkin is not popular here for some reason... About the flu shot, my midwife/doctor here said it is not reccommended for pregnant women, so I won't get one, regardless. I've never had one in the past either, though. Thanks for the link, I'm going to bookmark that!

Hi Jennifer

Don't worry about it. Just try not to miss a day around when you expect to ovulate. You're early for that. yes?

Well, I assume that I ovulate on day 14, and that wouldn't be until next week. So as long as I am not one of those women who ovulate on day 7 or 10, then I should be fine. I think...

Hey, girls, I'm back. Don't you hate when you waste half a day for a dr. appt. and they just tell you what you already know? So, they took a urine sample and will test for infection. If that's not it, then I'm just running out of room down there until my uterus moves up. It seems to be better now... after I move around a bit and have a bm. I guess it makes more room.

Ok, off to catch up on work. Today is my Molly's 3rd birthday! (she's my Aussie, the beautiful dog standing in my avatar)

Good morning ladies! Well, another night of pretty good sleep! I did wake up about 5:00 this morning and just kind of dozed for a couple of hours, but I feel a lot better than I did on Monday. Still tired, but not exhausted, does that make sense? I think the tiredness is just something that you go through in the 3rd tri.

Ames: I have been meaning to try spaghetti squash. So many people rave about it!!

Martha: Love Charmin!! It's a must have in our house!!

DFL: I started feeling tired about the instant I got into my third trimester. But, it has really intensified this last week or so. I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow.

little bear: Dang that full moon! I was hoping it would help!!

Dar: I'm glad you are calling your OB. I hope it isn't anything serious!

Lizzy: That answering machine message is a riot!!

Smiley: It's good to temp everyday, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. Just make sure you do it tomorrow morning.

GetNSlim: Good luck with your glucose test! I hope you pass!

Kelley: I am really confused about getting a flu shot too. I get one every year, but I'm not sure if I should get one this year or not...

Jenn: I'm glad your soup turned out good!!

Good morning ladies!!

Ames - how do you cook your spaghetti squash? I've thought about trying it but was not sure how to cook it. Oh never mind, I see you already posted it. I'll have to try that. It sounds good.

Martha - Good luck figuring out what kind of car to get. That is crazy about the price of stuff to make pumpkin pies!

Desperate - I was having quite a bit of low energy before my gestational diabetes diagnosis. I have perked up quite a bit in the last few days since I have been watching my diet. I'm sure I will get more tired again closer to the end. It seems like with DS#1 that the tiredness etc really set in the last 4 weeks.

Little Bear - I know you must be tired of posting still pregnant! I'll keep sending you labor vibes.

Dar - the lack of urination issue sounds uncomfortable. Hope the dr can figure things out and gets the issue resolved.

MadameX - I've been wondering about the flu shot too. I work from home so my personal exposure to people is low but DH is a firefighter and around sick people all the time and DS is in public school so I figure they are both germ magnets. Guess I need to talk to my dr about it and see what she says.

Jefinner - sorry about the immunizations. I always hate it when I have to let the dr give DS a shot. I felt so bad when I took him for allergy testing a couple of weeks ago. He cried and cried but it really was necessary.

Smiley - I've never charted but I would think that getting yourself worked up about missing a day would be a bigger deal than the fact that you forgot to take it today.

Lizzy - Thanks for the advice. I talked to DH last night and that is basically what I have decided to do. I am going to cancel the followup and will tell them why. The nurse will call me tomorrow to check my levels so I will let her know what's going on then and I can tell my dr about it at my next appt. I am going to eat protein, dairy, veggies, lower glycemic fruits in small portions, and some lower carb whole grains. This is what I've been doing so far and my blood sugar levels have been good. My fasting was on the low side of acceptable levels this am so I think I needed to eat a little bit more last night. I intended to have a bedtime snack but laid down to snuggle with DS and fell asleep. I am not going to chart stuff in Fitday though because I get nutty when I have to do that kind of stuff. Just writing down what I eat is all I can handle without getting obsessive. I don't think that my dr will object to this since what I am doing is basically the advice her nurse gave me.

Ok, back a little bit for a few personals.

Spaghetti squash.. you can also boil it. The key is using the tines of a fork to scrape out the meat. That's what helps make it like spaghetti, but after it cooks, you will see it naturally comes apart that way.

Here's my story of this morning.. got up at 4 am as usual to pee.. got a few drops then nothing! Worse than just a trickle.. this was nothing. And I tried everything I could think of. So, frustrated, I went back to bed but couldn't sleep. Not only that, but I had only gone to bed at 12.. hubby and I were on a computer hunt last night that blew up into stopping by a friends' to help them install a ceiling fan cause their a/c went out, and the hubby is a computer guy so the men talked about computers. After finding nothing at Best Buy and Circuit City, we ended up ordering online late last night.

But I digress... woke up again around 5:30, tried again, no luck. Woke up dh to tell him, and we both couldn't get back to sleep. Finally, I tried again around 7, and dh says, "try standing up." Yeah, right, well instead of that I leaned back as far as I could and got a little out. After a few tries at that, I finally emptied my bladder.

I felt so silly at the dr... It just seems so trivial, but they'll check for infection. If it's not that, I guess I just have to deal with it for now.

Amy, I also missed day here and there. Just make sure you check it tomorrow, and you can make an educated guess what today's would have been.

Martha, do you do a book a month or something? I'm so far behind on my reading.. between pregnancy books, baby books, and recreational reading, my nightstand is like a library right now.

We don't bother buying pumpkins down here until the day of or day before Halloween if we buy at all. They just rot too quickly. Michael's has those ones that are fake and can be carved, but they're flammable! Duh...

Sarah~If I were you, I don't think I'd get the flu shot before you deliver. My reason for that is that I don't usually get my flu shot until around November/mid-November anyway, and haven't ever caught it before that. After you deliver, you can decide if you want it then, but they still wouldn't innoculate your baby with it until six months, so it would be mostly for you (except for the breast milk thing). I do wash my hands a lot whenever I get home; especially from the grocery store (shopping carts! ick!) and at the airport. I also carry around those antibacterial wipes and use them a lot. Maybe people think I'm obsessive compulsive.

Christina~Good luck with the dietician and nurses!

I am having doggie problems. Dar, maybe you can help? My dog is acting strangely. She didn't eat nor did she show interest in what I was having for dinner last night. She went to bed (in the guest room~not normal for her) at 7:00 last night. Then, she moved to the side of my bed after I got up this morning. Just now I heard her go back to the guest room, so I checked on her. She was shaking. She did have a diarrhea accident inside yesterday. This is very rare for her. She is usually very social and stays right by me. So, I took her out to potty just now. She did her thing, and even seemed excited to go out. She was alert and acted normal. We came in, and she ate her canned food right away. She is still shaking though. Nose is cold and wet, I don't think she has a fever, but I don't know whether to call the vet!

I know it will only be worse if the the baby gets sick! I am such a basket case. I don't know if I can handle it!

Kelley, sending you a PM. I find I wash my hands alot more frequently now than I used to. Can't really afford to get sick, and not being able to take anything would suck. A friend of mine had a cold the last 3 months of her pregnancy, and she was miserable.

Product review time! Due to our computer hunt last night, we didn't have dinner before leaving the house. So, starving, we dug into the freezer when we got home and made Red Baron's CarbWorks French Bread cheese pizza. It was really good! Nice and crunchy and very good flavor. In my opinion, it could have used more sauce, but I like lots of sauce on my pizza.

We've also had their pepperoni pizza. The crust was a little weird, but overall good. I prefer Chef Antonio's low carb pizza, though.. more pizza like taste. However, 1/2 a Chef Antonio's is a serving vs. a whole pizza for Red Baron as a serving. The Red Baron is smaller, but not that much smaller.

That's my PSA for the day.

Hello to all-

Extra special labor vibes to all the overdue mommies out there. Just know that you can't be pregnant forever. (I'll remind myself that I said that when it's my time!)

It's funny that your talking about being sick. I'm actually home today because I have an intestinal bug. I've been doing a modified BRAT diet. Bananas and rice is what I've been eating. However can't even keep them in. GROSS. I feel really bad after eating, but am so hungry that I've got to eat something. I read my book and it said that I shouldn't worry, just to keep hydrated. The baby has been moving a lot so I'm not too worried about her. Poor baby is probably just a touch hungry! I hate being sick and I really hate not going to work!

I've realized recently that I'm a workaholic. I love working and love what I do. Before my vacation I worked at 12 hour shift and had a great time, didn't even realize that I had worked that long! Does anyone else worry about how your new arrival will effect your work schedule? I have daycare setup, so I've got that covered.... Any thoughts from anyone else??

I forgot who asked me ?? about the cruise, but I'll talk about it all you want!! Just send me a PM!

I have a fetal echo-cardiogram today at 3:45. I know that this is just another one of those tests that they do because I'm of "advanced maternal age", but come on! I guess I'm just tired of feeling like an old science project. All these tests make me feel like my Dr. is just waiting for me to explode! (rant over!)
