Pregnant LC'ers?
Hello!
I just wanted to kind of poll the many ladies that I have seen on here who are currently pregnant... My husband and I have begun trying to conceive and I have some concerns about eating a low carb diet during this time while we attempt to get pregnant. What changes to your diet did you make when you became or started to try to get pregnant? I don't want to go back to the way that I had been eating, but I am concerned about the amount of nutrients (esp calcium) that I am getting. Does anyone have any advice for me? I know that if I go to my doctor, she is going to tell me to move to a more balanced kind of eating (probably low fat/cal...yuck). Thank you so much for any help! I am so excited and nervous and need any help that I can get!!! Oh yah...and cross your fingers for us! I ovulate soon! ![]() |

I think what is generally recommended is to follow the maintenance Phase of Atkins if that is the LC program you are following. At least, that is what is suggested when you confirm that you are pregnant. I am not sure if it is necessary to switch to maintenance while trying to conceive, unless you feel there is some nutrients you are really lacking.
Take a pre-natal vitamin as your multi while TTC and eat healthy. Good luck! |

Woo hoo, how exciting! Please stop in to say hello to us over in The Maintain Lane. There is a daily thread for those who are pregnant and those TTC. We'd love to add you to the list.
While we were TTC, I stayed on my early OWL levels I was eating at. I had no concern about vitamins.. I took my prenatal (you should get a prescription for it, even if you are just TTC) in addition to calcium supplements. As soon as my test came back positive, I switched to maintenance. You will find out from many of the girls that we try our best.. sometimes nausea makes you crave really bad stuff and sometimes all you can do is eat high carb foods in order to keep anything down. For others, it's a breeze. I was also very worried, but added in fruits and whole grains. I've gained a few pounds already, but I'm trying not to fret. I know that I'll lose it again. I had tons of questions, and still do, and the girls on the preg. thread are wonderful! See you there! |

How exciting to be having a baby. I tried to eat LC several times during my last pregnancy, but I constantly fell off (Baby needs a strawberry shake - lol!). Babies need lots of good fat for brain development - olive oils and fish oils. Eat lots of leafy greens (I CRAVED sauteed kale sprinkled with vinegar). No doctor is going to tell you that subbing a salad for the fries is bad, so just use your own best judgement. You know what kind of foods your baby will need, (not cake!) so trust yourself to make good decisions. And if you fall off a little its okay. Pregnancy is hard, uncomfortable, exciting, long and stressful, just take care of yourself as best you can.
