Good grief this computer is giving me fits. I hope I got all the corrections made.
I am feeling so much better these days, athough when I get up to pee the second time I get kind of nauseous so I am taking one pill then with a few animal crackers...and then I toss and turn for an hour or two after that. I'm starting to get some mild hip pain which is kind of making me waddle a little bit from the soreness. I gather it is from laying on my side as I was a stomach sleeper before. But it hasn't bothered me before and I've been sleeping on my side for over a month now. Had a little bit of a scare this weekend. I asked the doctor last week about about prenatal vitamins, but she didn't have one to recommend as the iron and stool softeners have made me ill with the last ones I tried. So I told her I'd go to the health food store and see what I could find that was more natural. She was ok with that. I started taking some prenatal vitamins that I bought from the health food store since they were dye free and supposedly had a type of iron that in non-constipating in it. I was a little leary about buying them as it had several weird herbs I've never heard of in it, but the lady at the store assured me that they were in small amounts and were meant to strengthen my uterus in preperation for child birth. Well, I took them for 3 days with no problems, except they had quite a nasty taste going down. From the first day I took them though, I started getting mild pelvic floor spasms. I didn't think much of it until after the third day of taking the vitamins the spasms were getting uncomfortable and I woke up with my heart about pounding out of my chest. I got up and had my husband take me to the closest pharmacy. I asked the pharmasist about the vitamins and if there was a different one I could take. She told me to definately not take one with the herbs. Finally, she recommended that I take a multi without iron and when my morning sickeness is finally gone to maybe take the Slow Fe brand of iron, because it is suppose to be easier on the digestive track. I thought all regular multi's had too much vitamin A, but she showed me one that had just a slight amount more than the prenatal vitamins of the same brand. I plan to start taking them today and then ask my doctor about the Slow Fe at my next appointment. The good news is that the pelvic floor spasms have disappeared since I stopped taking the vitamins the other day and I haven't had the heart pounding either. This weekend I broke down and bought some bigger shirts. My bust is just getting too busty for my other shirts. I got a few maternity shirts and then several 2x large shirts. I'm really only about a large to maybe 1x, but all the shirts were cotton so I know they're gonna shrink, plus I'm growing in the belly anyway. I feel a lot more comfortable now with my belly well hidden, instead of the shirts riding up my butt or my tummy, LOL!Well, that was my fun for the last several days. Everyone have a great day! Amy |

Morning everyone!
Things are fine here, still nervous, but feeling better, and getting excited to go HOME!! We had one of my husbands old friends over for dinner last night and did some grilling--greek salad w/ romaine from the garden, grilled leg of lamb marinated in rosemary, olive oil & garlic, and grilled eggplant & zucchinni. It was really great, I haven't had much appetite, but that really hit the spot. They had strawberry sundays for dessert and I had strawberries and whipped cream. Desp, that u/s sounds great! Glad everything was ok for you! Suzanne, your day yesterday sounded like something out of a sit-com! Ames, that was crazy about the herbs. I guess you can't be too careful... Nicole, I've been losing weight too, I'm only 6 weeks, but I think I've lost 5 lbs...I'm going to ask the doctor about it on Thursday. I'm eating healthy, whole foods w/ enough fat & protein, so I can't imagine it's bad....still in ketosis most of the time though, even with the fruit and occasional whole grain. Hi Ellen, You're getting close! Hope your b/p goes down for you! Pauline, sorry about the funeral, hope you're feeling better. Have a great day, everyone! |

ick I woke up soooo tired and with the worst case of heartburn. I surely hope I make it through my work day without falling asleep...man I wish I was drinking caffiene about now!! Amy....glad to hear it was the vitamins and it stopped once you changed. My doc recommends Flintstone's chewables for kids if prenatals don't settle with you. Martha....how much longer until you go home? I can only imagine how excited you are!! Congrats on the loss. |

![]() Got the confirmation from my blood test yesterday that I'm indeed pregnant. I don't know why that mattered to me.. you'd think the 3 hpts were enough. Anyways, she said it was positive but very early, which didn't surprise me since I went in the very day my period was due. So, now I have the all clear to see my ob on Tuesday.Still no major symptoms for me.. I've been a bit tired, slightly crampy, but nothing big. I guess I should be happy, right?! No m/s yet, so I'll consider myself lucky. I just wish I felt pregnant! LOL... The pound that I had gained I now have lost. Suzanne, sorry about the crappy day! |

G'Morning Mommies,
Ames, surely your morning sickness will pass soon. First pregnancy, mine was gone at exactly 12 weeks, this time it lasted 17 weeks. I guess a bit of improvement is better than nothing. Dar, congratulations on the confirmation from your doctor! My m/s didn't begin until the 7th week this time so you might have a grace period. After I started feeling sick, all I could eat was carbs. I saw your questions yesteday, and I remember feeling exactly the same way about the weight gain. I conceived two days after I hit my goal! The good news is, that even when all I could eat were carbs, I gained very little weight. Maybe 5 lbs in the first 17 weeks. After I was able to add some protein to the carbs, I gained weight much faster. The one consolation for me is that at least now I know how to lose the weight. As for artificial sweetners, I use Splenda in my tea every morning and I was drinking a diet coke or two. Now that I am hyperthyroid, I don't need the caffeine boost. I didn't even know about soft cheeses and I have used bleu cheese several times but always in cooked foods. Desp, I hope your heartburn stays gone. You all should have bought stock in Tums before I hit the 3rd trimester. Martha, have a good trip. Hopefully I will have a baby when you come back. Hi Smiley! Wari, where are you? It seems like we haven't heard from you in a few days. Pauline, let us know you are still pregnant! I meant to add a few days ago that I am sorry for your friend's loss. My father died 8 years ago and being pregnant makes me miss him so much. I'm debating doing the laundry before the remnants of TS Earl hit us. It may come over as a tropical wave tomorrow morning. I'll have to study up on the satellite photos to see if I have enough time to dry everything on the clothes line before the first showers hit us. Hasta pronto, Suzanne

Good Morning Mommies!
Nothin' much goin' on here ... except we've been really enjoying watching the olympics! Amy - I'm so sorry your digestives troubles are continuing. Yours has got to be one of the worst cases of m/s I've ever heard about, with the exception of one friend of mine. This was 21 years ago. She was so violently ill throughout the whole nine months that she was admitted to the hospital several times for IV fluids and nutrients (none of the anti-nausea medications could touch her m/s). By her ninth month, she weighed 98 pounds (she's about 5'4" and normally weighs about 125lbs), but she gave birth to a healthy boy who weighed over 6 pounds. He went on to become an NCAA All-American in soccer, and just graduated from Middlebury College last year. So, take heart. Our bodies have amazing ways of protecting our babies, no matter how miserable we feel. I commend your efforts for continuing to try to get those vitamins down though when many would have given up and quit! Good for you! Marthad - have a great trip! And Dar is right, we do have internet access over here too, so try to log on occasionally! Most public libraries have access (often for free). That grilled dinner sounds delicious! My husband and I have totally splurged and hired a Brazilian lady and her daughter to help me around the house three half days a week with my two boys, cleaning, laundry, cooking and shopping (and then also with the baby once he arrives). The best is turning out to be the cooking and laundry help. The last few weeks I've been eating this really incredible Brazilian food. No idea how to pronounce it, or most of what's in it (all whole foods though), but my God, I'm in heaven! Desp and Smiley - Hi! Where's Wendy? All of the vegetables available around here this time of year are native grown and so fresh!! We're surrounded by several vegetable farms in our town (they sell to a lot of the restaurants in Boston), and they have terrific road-side stands for so cheap! One of the best August salads is corn on the cob (freshly picked, steamed, and then cut off the cob), chopped fresh tomatoes, fresh chopped basil, a little chopped sweet vadalia onion, some apple cider vinegar, olive oil, a little salt and pepper. OMG!! To die for. I haven't been too concerned about carb intake lately. I'm not sure what's going on with my weight, but I've been hovering between 181.5 and 184.5 throughout the entire pregnancy (I'm now at week 30). The baby seems to be growing at the appropriate rate, but I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. It's not like I've had m/s or been limiting my intake in any way whatsoever (believe me!) Anybody have any thoughts? Should I be concerned? Cheers, LizzyD

So, today is rough...started LC again.
I have to get this off my chest. About a month ago, I decided to stop doing Atkins and try Weight Watchers. I have gained 20lbs on WW!! So, I decided to go back to Atkins. And, now after having a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs with ham and cheddar cheese, and a coffee with cream I am wondering why I quit in the first place. So, here I am, day one...hopefully it isn't as hard as when I first started LC. I know that LC changed when you become prego - but how? What do you all do now? Do you have to change it if you breast feed?

Amy, digging the new siggy!
![]() All I've done so far is added in fruits, Triscuits, Wasa crispbread, peanut butter, and cottage cheese. I'm also not limiting my veggies like I was before. I had been on early OWL levels before, so this is heaven! Like Suzanne said, I don't have m/s yet, so I'm able to stomach whatever I ate before. I just want to take in more carbs and more fiber to keep me out of deep ketosis and to keep me regular. Hubby is also watching what I eat.. he's lc'ing, too, and he's making sure I eat enough veggies. So, for right now I'm following the carb ladder. I hope I can continue to do that. I'm trying not to treat this is a 'free pass'. I think it's suggested that you stay out of ketosis at least until you're done b'feeding. Some folks stay in ketosis, but there's no research yet done to study the effects it has on the fetus. I'm sure that the baby will get all its nutrients from you somehow, but I personally don't want to "diet" during pregnancy. I'd rather not starve myself. Also, I know that Amy (metroames) just posted on the main lobby she's having a rough time finding things she can stomach. She's havign a really hard time with m/s. Good luck getting back on the wagon!!! |

Well, in my year of LCing, I only ate 20 carbs a day. How much would I need to go up while pregnant? I have heard some people say 100 or so...is that correct?

HI Everyone -
Have been busy with my brother and his family visiting us. THey arrived on Saturday and will leave tomorrow morning. They were hoping I would have the baby while they were here, but no such luck. Today is my last day at work and I have a few things to get done before I leave. My work e-mail is being forwarded to my house so I will still be able to communicate with everyone from work. I have asked them to e-mail rather than calling me at the house. E-mail is so much easier for me. Don't have a lot of time for personals today, but wanted to say I am still around just busy today! Once I am home the remainder of the week I will be able to post more. I am being induced on the 23rd of August. That is my Dr.s first day back in the office. Wendy |

"Morning All!
Well, I was going to post a triumphant "I think my morning sickness is gone!", but I just threw up. I didn't take my pills last night because I thought I felt so good, but I guess I still need them, even though they make me feel crappy in a different way. Amy (metro), I hope you feel better. I read your post in the main forum and while you got generally good advice, it looks like there's the occaisonal wierdo who has likely never been PG much less had m/s. Amy (Smiley), 20g for a year! Wow! That's dedication. I think you could go up to 80-100g carbs while PG, you just shouldn't be in ketosis. I currently have 175-200g carbs per day! I'd say I really follow maintenance (it is higher carb but lower fat, it seems), or kind of a "Sugar Busters" WOE. Like Amy, I eat whatever stays down, and that's usually whatever sounds good, and I usually won't know what it may be until I am ready to eat! Hi everyone...BBL! Kelley

Morning ladies....
I feel like I'm running running running. I have so many errands to take care of, and such a limited supply of energy with which to do it. Today I need to go drop off my letter for work about my leave, run to about 4 different stores to get things, and go to Costco (an adventure in itself). As far as LC'ing, that has pretty much gone by the wayside as my pg progressed. I started with the best intentions, but I've found that I cannot eat the amount of protein or veggies that I was eating before while pg! So I just sort of try to eat healthy and hope it's ok. I'll be back on LC soon enough after delivery. Hope you all are staying cool and having a good day...

Yeah, tell me about it...I couldn't believe I had gained so much in only a month!! Everyone told me I would gain a little and then it would plateau out. Well, guess what - It never did!! I worked so hard to loose the 50lbs. I didn't want to gain anymore back than I already had. I think I just need to be more creative on this WOL - with regards to the food. Ya know? |

Amy, have you checked out the recipe room? We try to get creative. Once a week, I'll try something new. (Once a week is about all I can handle.. LOL) Like last night I made something from LindaSue's website. The week before I used Dana Carpender's cookbook. The rest of the week is either leftovers, go out, or the usual staples.
And we try to get creative with the usual's, too. For instance, our favorite thing to do with grilled chicken breasts is wrap them in bacon and melt havarti cheese over them. MMmmmmm.. we never tire of it. Is DH lc'ing, too? |
