Welcome SmileyAEE and lil miss!

About trying for a girl...here is what I've heard. The X-sperm swim slower, but live longer and the Y-sperm swim faster, but die sooner than than the X-sperm. Therefore, the closer you are to ovulation when you baby dance the better chance for a boy. Sperm live something like up to 5 days. So if you baby dance within 2-3 days or so of ovulation your chances for a boy are better, but if it was 2-3 or more days before ovulation your chances for a girl are better.

Unfortunately, this will only work if you have a predictable cycle and can pinpoint ahead of time when you will ovulate. I had wacked out cycles before I was on the pill and I was only off the pill for 2 cycles when I got pregnant. I only knew I had ovulated when my temperature rose (yeah I charted). The first cycle was 37 days and the second cycle was 41 days...and aunt flo never showed! Looking back at my chart I know that I conceived about 2 to 2.5 days after we baby danced....so I guess my chances for a boy are probably 50-50....yep, I'm hoping for a boy...can't wait to find out next month!

Good Morning Girls~

Sorry my participation in this group has not been very active, I've been away from the computer for several days due to severe morning sickness. I'll have to go back & read the last few threads so that I can get caught up!

We've got a lot going on here for the next few weeks, so I really hope this m/s lets up a bit! We're shipping our car back to the States tomorrow morning & the movers are due to come in & start packing up in 10 days. I have my first pre-natal appointment on Tuesday & I'm hoping they can give me something for the constant !

Going back to read up on the previous threads. I'll try to be back in a bit.

Good morning. I'm here very early for the west coast. Can't sleep due to a severe cold. I've been sick since Saturday and, if anything, it seems to be getting worse. My head HURTS! My nose is all stuffy and I keep sneezing. Saw the dr. on Monday and she said no infection, just a cold. Cannot take much of anything. I got up at 3 am today and had a cup of tea, but now I can't get back to sleep.

Welcome to anyone I missed. Hi to all the regulars. I'm off to take tylenol and pray that I can sleep a little bit!

Teach~I hope you start to feel better soon.

Amy~ There may be some truth in your how to have a boy/girl theory. We baby danced on the day I ovulated and I am having a boy.

Good Morning to everyone else!

Thanks for the info metroames!! It is all a bit confusing to me right now...I haven't the slightest idea about how to track anything!! And I assume if you want to track it, you need a few months of planning...right?

It is cool to see my name up there, listed as trying!! I am so excited.

Well, it is official...last night I should have started my new bc pill pack, but had a talk with DH about whether I should start a new pack and wait another month or if I should stop taking it now and just use back up until I talk to my Dr. next Friday. He told me to stop!! So, I guess this is it! We are really serious. So, maybe soon I will be a real memeber of this pregnancy thread and listed as pregnant with a due date!! Yipppeee...

Smiley,

Here's some helpful websites:

Stuart Prenatal

March of Dimes

Basal Body Temp FAQ

The more things you track (temperature, mucus, cervical position, etc.), the more you will learn about your body's pattern. Remember that going off of the bc pill might also affect your cycles to start out. Don't let that frustrate you.

Thanks for the info.

About the bc pill - I have heard different things. I have heard some people say when you go off the pill, it could take a while to get pregnant because of the hormones still in your system, but on the other hand, I have also heard that some people get pregnant on the first time because of "missing" pills. I am sure it just depends on the woman.

Hi Gang,

Smiley, I had just come off the NuvaRing which is chemically the same as being on the pill. I got pregnant my 3rd month off it (2nd month TTC) so in my case it apparently didn't affect me. I had been in bc for about 4 years too. They say for some people it can take months to get back to normal ovulation. Personally, I'm convinced that low carbing helps get/keep you on track.

My first cycle after coming off was very short - like 24 days, my second was 32. On the 3rd (successful!) cycle I ovulated around day 18. The Taking Charge of your Fertility book has a chapter in it on how to increase your odds of a boy or girl. Good luck!

Teach, hope you feel better!!!

Blueyedgirl, good luck with the move and I hope you can get a break from the m/s!

Amy, I can't wait until I find out next month too! I think we got pregnant the day before ovulation so odds are in favor of a boy there, but my hunch says girl. We'll see!

Dar20 and karatejen, wave!

Have a great day all!

Meg

Good morning ladies!!

Viki and Smiley: Okay, I emailed DH's grandma last night to ask her about her trick to have a girl. I'll quote exactly what she said... I have no idea if this works or not, but she swears it does.

Quote:
I'd be glad to, that's how I had Debbie.
Girl sperm travel faster when the woman's body is acid and boy sperm travel faster in alkaline. So even though it is the man's sperm that determines the sex of the baby, it's the woman's body that depends who gets there first to fertilize the egg.
So I ate everything that would make my body acid and bought some lactic acid at the pharmacy and put a little in water and drank it and also douched with it in the water the night you have sex.
I ate sauerkraut, oranges, Yogurt and you can get lactobacillus Acidophilus at the health food store. That's a good acid and I use to take it and I wouldn't get fever blisters on my lips from the sun.
Do this at least three weeks before you want to get pregnant.
I read this in 1952 in an old medical book from the 1800.
It worked with me, after Dave I had Debbie.
So have your friend give it a try. More boy babies are born because most women are Alkaline.
So, there ya go. I think I just learned a whole lot more than I ever wanted to know about my Grandma-in-law.

Also, Smiley- You can get a digital basal body thermometer most grovery stores and drug stores. I would suggest getting one. They are about 10 bucks or so. You take your temperature as soon as you wake up (try to do it at the same time every day) but you do it before you ever get out of bed. Just getting up to pee can raise your temp. You track your temps everyday to see when you have a temp spike, this usually indicates ovulation. You will also check cervical mucous to see when you are fertile. There is a ton of info online, and those thermometers come with a little pampthlet with some info.

metro: Good morning!

blueye: I hope you feel better! The doc should be able to give you something to calm your tummy.

Teach: Yuck! I hate colds! Get some rest and take care of yourself today!

Jen and Dar: Hi!

Nothing new here. The baby was kicking a bunch last night. I think I'm going through another round of stretching. The sides of my belly were really sore. I've been sleeping much better the last two nights, it's been much cooler. I'm loving it!

Oooo...sounds good. I might have to try some of that. Mabye I will write the stuff down and ask my Dr. if it is okay to try. And with regards to the douche...did she do it AFTER sex? If so, how long after? I am sure you don't really want to think about that, but hey...I need to know these things. Also, don't you think douche would was the sperm away??

I have heard about the acidity thing before. So, maybe it is true. I also hear that if you want a girl, you should have sex missionary (this has to do with your cervix being high acid and if you do it missionary, apparently, it gets the sperm farther in and helps keep the girl spermies away from the acid) and do NOT have the big O. I forget why...

Morning Ladies!

Ugh! Could I be feeling round ligament pain? I just sneezed and about doubled over! Way down on one side. Owie! Well, we have so many ripe tomatoes, I guess that's what I will be eating today, and this whole week, LOL. Why do they always get ripe at the same time?

Well, I looked at websites all night last night for chromosomal abnormalities, just because I'm convinced I'm the 1% that may have this. I cried a lot, but DH does not know. I think its just part of my worrying process. I wonder if I will somehow find some peace before the amnio. I know the wait will be he!!. I feel like such a raincloud, I will try to not harp on this for the next month, I promise. Thanks for your words of support, ladies who have been there.

Teach: I hope you feel better soon. Can you take sudafed? I know Tylenol and tea just doesn't cut it.

Sarah: That is so funny about your DH's grandma! They sure knew a lot back then! What detail.

BlueEyedgirl: Good luck with the move. M/S at 5 weeks is starting early! I hope it ends early for you too.

Hi Everyone Else!

Kelley

Smiley, this is kinda TMI, but when you have the big O, it "sucks" the sperm up into the uterus faster, thus giving the boy spermies an advantage because they can swim faster, but not as far or as long as the girl spermies, LOL.

Which are you trying for?

I can't imagine douching after sex?!?! Then again, I spend the next 30 minutes after keeping my feet up so nothing 'falls out'. I tend to leak alot (sorry.. TMI!), but maybe I'm just weird. Edited to say that I know that anything that leaks out doesn't have a chance for fertilizing, anyways, but I also want to give those at the head of the pack a better chance. And it keeps me a bit cleaner!

As far as position, I consider myself lucky enough when hubby says 'ok, let's go' that I forget about position!! Whatever he wants (usually me on top) I'm willing to do. And no O?!? To heck with that!!!!! LOL!!!!

Smiley: I believe she douched before she had sex to make sure that she was very acidic. You are right, if you douched afterwards you would just wash the sperm away.

I've never heard the "O" thing before. I'll have to remember that next time, cause I want a little girl too!

I REALLY want a girl!! Really, really bad. I know nature works in it's own mysterious ways, but a little girl is my dream! This may be horrible to say, but if I were to find out in an ultrasound that I was having a boy, I would probably cry, sad tears at first. I know I would get over it, but the initial shock would make me sad. Does that make me horrible...has it happened to anyone else?

Regarding the "O" - that makes sense too.

No, kidding - but anything I can do to get a girl, I will do. You can always "O" later....

Kelley...I may be new, but don't feel like a raincloud or that you are bothering us. I think if I were in your position I would want to "bother" people too. If I understand this group of ladies, I think they/we are all here to help and support our fellow mommies to be and anything we can do for you, we will. If that means lending an ear or a shoulder to cry on, so be it. I am still learing about all the things having to do with pregnancy and I am sure I will be asking a lot of questions - I would hope you would help me and I will help you any way I can! Keep your chin up and harp away if need be.

Kelley: I know how easy it is to let our worries get the best of us. I know there really are no words to make you feel better. But, it is fact that those tests are notoriously wrong. Have you decided if you are going to have the amnio?

Good morning to all! I was wondering if I could join the list of those trying. We just started trying for our second last month, which was a bust. We have a 4 year old DS and finally decided that our family was not yet complete, so here we are trying again.

I just wanted to add, that I have been lurking in this thread for a while and you are all so very helpful and encouraging. I remember when I was pregnant I felt alone on occassions, but you are so supportive to one another

So, if there is an open spot, would you please add me to your list of trying?

To the other new girls just added, I would strongly encourage charting your temperatures. When we started trying for #1 is took us a 2 years to conceive him. I started charting two months before giving up all hope, and low and behold we were pregnant. It helps you get a good grasp on your fertile times.

Good Morning everybody,

Wow, everybody has a lot of info on picking the sex of the baby!! I wonder how accurate these methods actually are? My grandma is convinced that it depends on what side you do it on. She asked DH and I... like I even know when we got pregnant. It was around Christmas and New Years, we were drunk and horny and could have been upside for all I remember!!

Got up at three in the morning to take my mother to the airport. She is off to Denver to visit her family. Hope she has a good time.

I'm sore! Yesterday I woke up with a leg cramp that lasted for about twenty minutes. I woke up screaming- my poor husband thought I was going into premature labour or something! Ouch it is painfull!! I still can't put much weight on my leg. I've been icing my calf and trying to massage it, but it really does hurt. Darn pregnancy leg cramps.

Welcome to our group AZ and lil Miss. It will be good to get some new trying and preggo's on the board seeing as a bunch of us will be going in the next couple of months!!

There are a bunch of ladies we haven't heard from in ages. I wonder how Bozo is doing? She should be having that baby pretty soon. And all you other lurkers that we haven't heard from in ages... come in a post a little. We are all interested to know how your feeling and how pregnancy is treating you!!

It is so nice to hear from all the new mommies too. I love it when you post pics. Avalon and Fluffi, your babies are such cuties. Kaden is still so tiny!!

Thanks for the tips on having a girl. Buying the acid, that sounds complicated. Would any pharmacy carry it?

Have any of you relied or used the chinese birth chart?

Yes, I will have the amnio, because the risk of m/c from it (1 in 200) is less than the risk of having a baby with a chromosomal problem for me now (1 in 100). I feel like I couldn't NOT do the amnio now, although I wish I'd never agreed to do the first tri screening in the first place. The good thing is, at least I will know for sure if we are having a boy or a girl! (Hopefully a perfectly healthy one )

Well, I am absolutely convinced that this baby was meant to be. Not only did I get up right after sex (and let all fall out that could), I believe I may have douched (not sure, but it could have happened).

Smiley~I wouldn't feel bad about wanting one sex or the other. I really wanted a boy and I actually questioned in my mind how I would handle the u/s if they told me it was a girl. I think I would have been in denial, just hoping they missed seeing his thing. But I spent the 20 weeks before the u/s trying to convince myself it would be a girl, just so I wouldn't be disappointed. I was actually shocked when they told me it was a boy. Guess I had to psych myself out.

madameX~sounds like round ligament pain to me. I had mine for about a day, but it has been gone since. I hope yours is short lived too.
