Morning Ladies!!

Ugghhhhh I've officially woken with the worst cold of my life!!! In one respect I'm glad I have to be outside all day in the rain (covered, of course) but I know it's just gonna make it worse. Packed my box of Kleenex and soup and we'll see what happens.

Other than that, everyone in this area is jumping for joy as it's the first day of school!!! My son keeps rubbing it in that his private school doesn't start till the 24th...altho I think he's ready.

Have a great day Mommies!!

Well, I did it again. Slept two hours, got up to pee, slept another 3 hours up and wide awake and took a 2 hour nap before work....ugh! I wouldn't mind the getting up to pee, but I just can't fall back asleep after the second time. It must be because it is the middle of the afternoon and my melatonin levels go out of wack waking up to the daylight. I have it nice and dark in my bedroom, but I can't hide the sunlight in the hallway. Boy, it would be nice to have a bathroom right off the bedroom...oh well, I guess I'll live. I'm making it through work without feeling deprived of sleep so I guess I'll go with the flow....although it sure seems like a waste to spend half the day trying to go back to sleep.

Well, my chest size has officially gotten huge. I've gone from a 38C to a 42DD. I swear I'm gonna have to start wearing maternity shirts soon....not because of my tummy, but because I'm busting out of all my larger shirts already! My husband isn't complaining much. Since they've been so sensitive it has been mostly look and no touch though. Poor guy. I'm a little frightened at how large they might get by the time I deliever and then after, when my milk comes in...good lord!

Everyone have a happy Tuesday.

Amy

Hi Mommies,

The ultrasound went fine yesterday. The radiologist still says I am having a girl and we still don´t believe it. Not after what happened last time. Other than that, all the organs are fine and she/he is growing perfectly. The estimated weight is 2.5 kilos (5.5 lbs) at this time and that it is a BIG baby. The last doctor not only thought my son was a girl but that he was going to be a 9 lb girl. So I am hoping that this doc is wrong and that I am having another 7 1/2 lb baby.

Gotta go get started on my monthly shopping.

Hasta pronto,

Suzanne

Well I am bummed. My first trimester screening blood test came back with elevated risk for chromosomal problems. Now I have to wait two more weeks for the amnio and then another two weeks for the results. My risk isn't that much higher than it would have been anyway given my age, but i worry like nobody else I know. I feel like I won't enjoy being PG these next few weeks (month!) at all. I feel robbed.

Good morning ladies!

Well... I have my first pregnancy stretch marks. I have 4 tiny ones right around my belly button. I am now the lotion queen. DH took another pic of me last night. I can't believe the changes in my belly in only two weeks!

I'm scared to think what I'm going to look like by the end of this!!!!

FL: I'm sorry you have a cold! Take care of yourself today, and feel better soon.

Amy: I'm sorry you are having trouble sleeping. That sucks! Can you take any kind of sleeping supplement? Maybe call the doc?

Suzanne: I'm glad your u/s went okay!!

Kelley: Try not to stress. Those tests are often times inaccurate, so try not to worry.

supportinghubby: No cloth diapers for us. With us both working, I can't see how it would work for us.

Morning everyone!

Madame X—I went through the same thing you’re going through with the AFP and I can completely relate. They told me that the elevated risk (for Downs) was 1 in 287 vs. the normal risk for a woman my age of 1 in 500. It might help to realize that these are just stupid statistics and really 1 in 287 breaks down to ½ of 1%. If someone had told me that was my risk initially I would have thought, “Those are GREAT odds!” I have a 99%+ chance of having a healthy baby. Great news! It’s just that couched in terms of an ‘abnormal test’ it seems scary. And don’t get railroaded into an amnio if that’s not what you want! I know it’s the best choice for some moms but 1 in 200 chance of miscarriage scared the he!! out of me. Anyway, I can’t say that I don’t have a nagging fear that will only go away once she’s born and pronounced healthy but I’ve achieved some peace of mind by realizing it’s just numbers and talking to lots of other moms who had ‘abnormal’ results and perfectly healthy babies.

Fun? But don't you actually have to "do" something to make the baby? I wouldn't call that fun - more of a chore.

Thanks for inviting me. I feel funny being her because it isn't a reality yet. I can't wait to be able to say "I am" rather than "we are trying"!! I see my Dr. next Friday and then we will take it from there.

Anyone have any words of wisdom as to what I can expect at the Dr's or soon after?

Morning Mommies,

Hope you are all off to a nice start today!

Desperate - I feel for ya. I'm just getting over a chest cold myself. Cough, cough, cough, very annoying and crummy-feeling in the nice weather! Holy cow! Why do you guys go back to school at the beginning of August? Around here most/many go back the day or two after Labor Day. When do your kids get out of school in the spring, April?

Amy - I often think it would be more convenient to be cathetarized at night! After I had my c-section they put a cath in in for a couple of days and I swear I got a better night's sleep both nights than I ever had before or since And, not to scare you or anything, but as for the boobs, I started out my first pregnancy with 34D's. By the end of the pregnancy and into the nursing phase I had gone up to a 42DD/DDD (I'm 5'4" and at the time weight around 160). After my son weaned I kept waiting for them to go down. They sorta did, but the skin didn't retract, so the bottoms of my boobs were touching my waist band. The day I went to get measured properly at a specialty bra shop and found out I was actually a 38H/I was the day I decided to have breast reduction surgery, which I did three years ago, and haven't regretted that decision for an instant.

Hi Suzanne - I think you are so right to take those estimates with a grain of salt! What's the plan for your delivery? Did you find a midwife and a house to rent for the delivery? Wherer and when?

Madame X - Were you getting an amnio anyway because of your age? If so, you can probably forego a lot of the screening tests ahead of time since, if anything comes back abnormal, they just confirm it with an amnio anyway. Also, Trolly is right. About the statistics, and that you have every right to decline any test you wish. We were taught in our Bradley Prenatal classes that if the results of the test won't cause you to change the course of your pregnancy (i.e. terminate), then ask yourself whether the risk of the test itself (miscarraige) is worth it to you. If certain results would cause you to change your course, or if you just want to know, then by all means, go for the amnio. For me, a positive would absolutely have meant terminating the pregnancy. But the waiting does suck! My original due date (it's since been moved up a couple of weeks) was on my 43rd birthday. Since I knew my odds of delivering a child with age-related chromasomal abnormalities (and my dh is a carrier of Goucher's disease) I was sweating bullets from the day I found out I was pregnant (week 2), until the end of week 18 when we got the ALL CLEAR amnio results. Anyway, this is an incredibly long-winded way of saying, "been there, feel for ya, and there really isn't much anybody can do or say to make it better until you get those results (if that's the path you chose)". Even though many of us have been through it and support you, it's still kind of a lonely time. My best to you and feel free to PM if you need to talk.

Supporting hubby - I'm with you on the friut, but can't say I'll be going anywhere near cloth diapers . Too lazy.

Mrs. Sarah - OMG you look adorable. I know what you mean, it seems as though, if the old tummy projects any further forward, we'll all just topple right over. Somehow we seem to muddle throught hough. DH is coming home from a long business trip on Sunday. Maybe after he catches up on everything I'll have him snap a belly photo I can post.

Trolly - Hi there!

Smiley AEE - Welcome

Regards,
LizzyD

Morning all,

Hi Suzanne, I am so glad that the ultra-sound went well. Is she still breech or is she presenting. I am apparently having a big baby too. Woudn't it be funny if the two of us both had normal sized boys instead of these monster girls everybody is predicting for us? I am a little leery of all these predictions. I am far more prone to believe the little old lady off the street who has felt my tummy, than some of these doctors.

Welcome Smiley. How long have you guys been trying for? Everybody can expect something different after seeing the doctor, depending on age and time trying to conceive. DH and I spent a while trying, so my doctor ordered a sperm count done and had us both go on a low-carb diet. He also had me track my temperature in the mornings and graph it. It gives you a good idea when, and if, you are actually ovulating. Got pregnant in less than three months while on Atkins!!! Thank goodness, because my husbands sperm count results weren't very good, and the doctor was talking about different fertility treatments. Two days after we found out about the pregnancy, my husband had an appointment with a urologist. Boy, was he glad he didn't have to keep that appointment!!

Hi Sarah, cute belly pics. You sure are growing!! You also look really happy. Thankfully no new stretch-marks for me. I am making good use of all my old ones though. Really glad I lost the fifty pounds pre-pregnancy.

How are things going Trolly? Still "enjoying" this third trimester? Me too!!

Wow, you Floridians have a really short summer for the kids. Children here don't go back until after Labour Day.

It must be so hard to wait for those test results Madame X. I'm thinking good thoughts for you!! I am really glad that I opted out of all those tests. I don't like to worry about things that I figure I cannot control anyway. I was really annoyed with way the doctors push some of the tests like AFP. Each of my early appointments, I explained that I wanted as little medical interferance as possible, and would under no circumstances ever abort my child- but still, at every appointment I was asked if I wanted any of the tests. They offer you these tests, but then don't offer adequate support to tell you what any of the results actually mean. My friend's mother had amnio because she was considered a "mature" mother and the results came back with a high likelihood of a neural tube defect. All she was offered was an abortion or some rather puzzling statistics. She was stressed through the rest of her pregnancy and, low and behold, baby was just fine.

Supporting, I am going to try cloth-diapers at the beginning at least. My friend used them, and she said, especially with newborns, they were less messy than the disposable. Apparently baby poop has a nasty habit of shooting up baby's back with the disposable diapers, but remains well contained with cloth. Anyhow, I figure it is certainly worth a try.

Amy, I had the same boob problem. I always joke that at the beginning of the pregnancy I went to bed a 36C and woke up a 44DD. I seem to have stabilized at a 42DDD or E, but yikes!! And how about those nipples?!! I couldn't believe how enormous those suckers (quite literally) got!! I didn't have the bladder trouble until just a few weeks ago. Now I'm peeing all the time. Baby uses both my bladder and my stomache as punching bags now, especially at night. Little bugger has run out of room, so she has to make her own fun, kicking my ribs, punching me in the crouch. The but up under my ribs is another lovely sensation!!

Hope the cold goes away quickly Florida. It sucks to be sick when you can't take any medication. Are you taking some time off work?

Nicole

Smiley: You don't need to feel weird at all. When I was trying, these ladies were absolutely wonderful. They answered all of my questions and all of my "do you think I'm pregnant" questions. It was awesome. We can add you to the trying list up top and hopefully soon you'll be joining us with a baby on the way!

The doctor will probably give you a good once over to make sure that you are healthy, etc. I was due to go in for a checkup when I got preggo, so I don't know exactly what they do. Someone else in here might though...

We actually haven't begun trying. We decided a couple of months ago that we thought we were ready. I knew I had a Dr's appointment this month so we decided to wait to make sure we really were ready and I wanted to speak with my dr.

Yeah, that would be cool to see my name on the trying list!

Thanks for not thinking I am silly. I am sure I will have a lot more questions when we really start trying/I see my dr/I find out I am pregnant.

So, I do have one question - Anyone know how to have a girl?

Hi Lizzy,

We were posting at them same time. How are you feeling? I've been really tired lately!!

I've decided to take the doctors advice, depending on what my blood pressure is like on Thursday when I see him, and stop working. My husband was furious with me for arguing with the doctor last week. He couldn't believe that I wouldn't trust one of the heads of obstetrics at the hospital and would want to keep working. I'm not sure what I was thinking either. I should listen to the doctor when it comes to the health of me and the baby. The good new about my insurance is that I'll get paid medical employment insurance until the baby is born and then I'll still get my full year paid leave for maturnity and parental. Really, not a bad deal at all. I'll end up with a year and a couple of months off!! Now watch, since I've made this decision my BP will be fine on Thursday!! And I'll keep on working It will be just my luck.

Hey Smiley - where in Massachusetts are you from? We are 17 miles northwest of Boston. Is your house in mourning because the Red Sox have traded Nomar? Ours is

Hi Nicole - I'm feeling big, hot, and tired and running around after two little boys (4 yo and 5 yo) isn't helping in this heat and humidity. But other than that everything is actually really good. Healthy pregnancy so far (knock wood), no major difficulties, swimming a lot (or floating around the pool, rather), eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies, steaks on the grill and chicken salad. My one starchy vice is fresh, local corn on the cob. I know Dr. A would say it's not great, but the season is so short, and I'm doing really well with my weight, so carbs-be-damned!

Regards,
LizzyD

We aren't in full mourning because we aren't big sports people - only watch the big games - but I am a little upset that Nomar has left. He was a great player and I did think he was cute.

Smiley - we are in Concord. Welcome to the board! I'm sure you'll be preggo before you know it. And fire away with any questions that come up for you. Nothing is too gross or too detailed for this group!

Later,

DH's grandmother has assured me that she's going to tell me exactly how to have a girl for the next time we get pregnant. That ought to be interesting! I'll let you know what she says.

Hi Mommies-

Talkative group today. It always seems like Tuesday is the day with the most posts. I don't have time for a lot of personals today- My coworker is on vacation (poor thing in the carolina's w/ hurricane Alex- which is kinda funny since that is what I might name my son) and I have to do two jobs this week.

I do want to say welcome to Smiley! Good luck ttc!!

I am taking Jessica to a sibling class today at my hospital. It should be nice -she can see the rooms where the baby will be deliveried and get an understanding of where I will be. I hope that they have some babies in the nursery!!

Update- I don't know if you remember but I am worried about the nurses and staff striking at my hospital. They have decided to hold a one day strike and if that works fine if not then they may go on a real strike. The one day strike will be August 24th. I hope they get everything resolved. I don't want to worry about this- I have enough crap going on!

I will try to come back later for personals!!

Greetings gang!

My brief pink spotting stopped within a few hours and doctor said it was probably just from my cervix being sensitive. She said if it continued more than 2 days, turned red, or cramped started to come in for an ultrasound but thankfully none of that happened.

Smiley: Welcome! I got preganant pretty much instantly thanks to 2 things: low carb diet and charting my temperatures. I would highly, highly recommend a book called Taking Charge of your Fertility. It worked for both me and my sister who had been trying to conceive for over 2 years. Hopefully you'll be reporting suspicious symptoms to us soon!

DesperateinFL: Hope you feel better soon!!

Amy: I'm with ya -- I used to be a 36DDD and now heaven knows what size. I just ordered some 40G's and we'll see if they fit! My hubby is pretty much making fun of me busting out of my bras daily now.

Suzanne: Glad the U/S went well. So who is starting the betting pool on whether or not she's having a boy or girl?

Sarah: OMG you look gorgeous!!! What kind of lotion are you using on the stretchmarks?

Kelley: So sorry to hear about the test results... what a stressful thing to have on your shoulders now. Positive thoughts coming your way.

Supportinghubby: Lately I'm eating more fruit than usual. I'm trying to cut back on refined sugars but I'm not doing very well. I really need to rein things in AND start exercising more or I'm going to skyrocket back to my pre-Atkins weight. And that's a very, very scary thought.

Trolly: /wave

LizzyD: Can't wait to see you new photo!

Nicole: That sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me! Good luck with your bp check!

Babyblue: I love the name Alex but my husband nixed it I hope the nurse strike doesn't affect you!

Back to work for me. Hope everyone is doing well!

Meg

Meg: Right now I'm just using regular lotion. I've gotten some recommendations to get Palmers Cocoa Butter though, so I'm going to pick some up.
