Happy Friday Mommies!Congratulations again Jenn Payton!

Wendy, good job on the weight gain. Are you eating LC now?

Sarah, I have to control myself at Sam’s and Costco, too. I don’t NEED anything for this baby, but my list of WANTs just grows and grows.

Angela, hope your bp goes down again and that you deliver soon.

Viki, sorry to hear about your interrupted sleep. I rarely notice it anymore, I just sleep walk into the bathroom about 20 times every night but I don’t feel like I’ve missed sleep. Last night however the acid reflux kept me up for 3 hours. Ah, the joys of pregnancy! LOL

Chris, that is wonderful news about the twins. How are you feeling?

Karate Jen, congratulations on the BOY!

Jeffiner, Anna is such a cutie!

Nicole, I am with you 100% about the "normal" birth proceedures, episiotomy, pitocin, epidural, etc. That is why I don't want to go to the hospital. We have very good hospitals in the area where I plan to deliver, but Mexican doctors have such a backward attitude. Most women here WANT cesareans. I guess to them a cesarean is preferable to having a man look at you genitals.

FL, the first flutters feel like someone is taking the edge of their finger nail and gently moving it across the inside of your belly. That’s the best way I can describe it.

Hi Shandril! Sorry you didn’t get the house, sounds like some tough bidding wars.

I am getting a late start this morning after being awake from 2:30 AM until 5:30 AM with acid reflux. My sister brought me all these great natural remedies from the US--papaya extract, Digestive Enzyme Blend, Nux Vomica--and I couldn't find any of them in the middle of the night. DH got up this morning and they were right behind his brief case.....I have found that papaya really works well, if I eat a piece before bed I don't have any acid. But I don't always have fresh papaya on hand so I am hoping the papaya extract and other remedies work well.

Besides my "white coat" BP at the doctor's office, she said the baby has turned and is breech now. She must have turned the first night in Cancun because her back was on my left side when I got there, now she/he is all turned around with her back on the right. Gotta start doing my pelvic tilts....My sister also brought down a doppler so we can listen to the baby's heart beat. DH wants to practice all the time. He's really taking me seriously when I say he might deliver this baby. At least if my midwife isn't back for the birth, we can check the baby's heartbeat and stay at home as long into the labor as possible. I also lied to my doctor and changed my due date by a week (my midwife thought that was so clever). And I told her that I am allergic to local anethesia so I can't have an episiotomy.

It's still sad to me that most of these things are "normal" now... I'm so happy that we have the medical technology that has saved many mom's and baby's lives, but I don't necessarily agree with using them for "convenience" sake. Personally, a cesarean scared the crap outta me.

It's also funny, because I've had women who find out that I had Anna in a birthing center, and had her naturally with no pain meds... They think I'm Superwoman. Little do they know that, IMO, it was much easier than when I gave birth to my oldest in a hospital WITH the epirdural. But... That's just my opinion! LOL!

Also... I didn't get fresh papaya very often, so I would take one of two things... I had some papaya extract chewables, or I would just eat pineapple. I love pineapple anyway, and it REALLY helped. Even the canned stuff.

I'm glad you found a midwife you like too. I loved mine. As a matter of fact, I still have to get her a gift... ACK!

morning girls!

not much new on ttc front, but on a different note ... we bought a boat yesterday!!! i'm really excited about it! my husband called me at 3:45 yesterday and said "hey, do we have $7500?" and "to get ready that he's picking me up to meet with a guy about a boat" !! lol he's actually been looking at boats for a while now and was REALLY excited about this one (condition, price, etc) .... mind you, we weren't planning on actually buying a boat for about 3 years when the boys were a bit older ... well low and behold, we are now boat owners!!! it should be a lot of fun ... even though i know NOTHING about boats!

back to topic ... i'm going to be taking a pg test tonight ... just as a routine test due to depo ... i not really expecting a positive, actaully i would be really surprised if it was! what a great surprise that would be if it actually happened!

later,
susie

Hi all, just found out yesterday that I am preggers, been ttc for almost 3 years, and LC for 6 mos. I have a Dr. Appt on the 28th, but I think I'll be due in March. Since we were ttc, I test often & I have PCOS so I don't have regular periods to go by, but I could be as early as 2 weeks pregnant, or 3 mos like when I found out I was pg with my daughter, lol. Anxious to begin my journey with you gals.

Susie, good luck with the test tonight, maybe you'll get a pleasant surprise. As the proud owner of 3 boats, I'll give you DH's definition: A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into. Fortunately, our boats make money sometimes, too

Amen! Not to be a downer but I would love to get rid of ours. What a money pit. But it is FUN when you are out on it! I don't want to be a downer. Enjoy it--your husband sounds like mine!

Good morning everybody,

Long day at work. My office is at the top of a long flight of stairs, so I am forever going up and down stairs at work. I swear they've added five or six extra stairs since the day before. By the end of the night I could hardly make it up to the top!!

Congratulations NaturalMama!!! You'll love this board! We've got the nicest group of mom's - everybody is so supportive and helpful. Good luck at the appointment.

Great to see you Jefinner!! I can't believe how big baby is getting. She is adorable. I like using the papya for heartburn, but actually found pineapple made things worse. Something about it's acidity. Last night I woke up with terrible heart burn, was about to go take something for it, and somehow just feel back to sleep. I woke up to the alarm thinking "wasn't it just 2am, where is my heartburn?"

Thanks for the support Suzanne. A lot of women everywhere seem to want medical procedures for their birth. My doctor told me that cesarians weren't as bad as the media is making out... yeah right, maybe if the baby is in that horizontal breech position or weighs 20lbs, but come on!! I've spoken with so many pregnant ladies that have their C-sections planned and seem just appalled that I want as natural a birth as I can. When I mentioned to one lady that I was going to do most of my labouring at home she actually accused me of being irresponsible for endangering the life of my baby!! I live about a three minute drive from the main hospital, in a city with full 911 service!!

You and DH are following the Susan McCutcheon Bradley Method book too aren't you? Have you been doing your exercises? DH has been great, except he won't let me sit in my "comfy-chair" now, he insists that I squat!! We also got the book "Birthing from Within". It is a great book-- New-Agey without being too goofy. You know, belly-casting, poetry, sketching, but other stuff too. They go through a way to practice relaxation techniques using ice-cubes to simulate pain. Wow... we tried it the other night and you wouldn't believe how painful two ice-cubes behind the ears, or on your wrists can be. I need to work on my focus, because I couldn't take a full minute "contraction" with those ice-cubes. I do like it when my husband "practices" the Bradley massaging. That kind of work I can handle.

Congrats on the boy Karatejen... there are gonna be a whole bunch of boys soon, huh? Suzanne, Lapretty and I seem to be the last of the girls, and even then Suzanne and I seem to have our doubts. Just because the ultra-sound doesn't pick up anything.... I was told that if my a$$ is spreading, I'm having a boy. I asked DH and he told me that he wasn't going anywhere near that question. He said answering it could be suicide, what with my pregnancy hormones and insecuities on weight gain. Smart man. Took him a while, but he's finally learned.

Good to see you looper.

Congrats on the boat susie and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be pregnant. You probably are... just because DH just sunk eight thousand dollars worth of baby clothes, furniture, etc into a boat

Chris- so happy the kiddos are out of NICU!! Hope you are healing up nicely!!

bye for now!

I was told that "all-over" weight gain was a girl, so I just felt that I was having a girl because I have put weight on all over (especially the legs and butt). So I am not sure what to make of the old wives tales.

Hi Kristen!! I hope you have a great weekend!! Relax and enjoy. I get the weekend off too!! It is supposed to rain, but DH is in the finals for his roller-hockey league, so I'll be indoors watching the games.

Hi Karatejen! It is so hard to know what to believe. And everybody always has an opinion no matter what. "you're carrying low" "you're carrying high" "is the baby's heartbeat slow or fast?" and my favourite "which way were you leaning when you conceived?" I had a dream that I was having a girl, long before I had any ultra-sounds, so I'm going with gut instinct!!

I noticed yesterday that my ankles are swelling. There is no pain, but I look swollen enough for sprained ankles.

Anybody else have this at 20 weeks? Should I be concerned? It is scaring me a little right now.

Hi everyone.

Nicole, I always go by my instincts too. I don't believe in the old wives tales. WIth DS, I had a dream that it was a boy, and he was! I haven't had any dreams yet about this one.

With the discussion on natural v ceasarean, I would try for natural this time. I had ceasarean last time. I was trying for natural delivery, although I did get the epidural and will again this time. The after pain of ceasarean is what I'm not looking forward to. I rather would have it natural and get it over and done with. It is disturbing that people are opting to have ceasarean straight away. I think everyone should try to deliver vaginally and use other methods only if you can't deliver.

Hi, everyone!
I am officially on maternity leave! If they won't let me work from home after my 12-week FMLA leave, today would be my last day forever!!

Chris - Glad to hear your twins are doing so well!!
Wishing you a speedy recovery from your c-section!

Wendy - Let us know how your test went.

Jen - Congrats on the boy!! Sorry about the swelling in your ankles. Mine's not too noticeable - usually goes away when I elevate my legs. I know others here can help you more.

Jefinner - Anna is adorable!

Nicole - I created a birth plan, but it wind up being so long that I thought they would miss the most important things. I'm just planning on telling them that I want it to be as natural as possible, and i have to always ask what they're doing before they try to do anything to me. I will ask DH to be my guard, too.

Suzanne - Sorry about your HB. Now you got me craving for papayas!

Hi, Viki!
Ellen - Good luck at your appt!

Susie - A boat! How cool!!

NaturalMama - and congratulations!!

Hi, Sarah!

Kristen - Enjoy your free weekend!

Hi Girls!
Well, my Dr. appt went really well yesterday, though I don't really know anything. I had a bunch of tests done and I have to go back on Tuesday for another blood screen, and then wait to see how my hormone levels are doing. I get to have an ultra sound in 2 week to make sure its a "viable pregnancy".

That freaks me out so much - any advice to calm me down?!? I know that even this early in the game, my worry and stress can't be good for me or the baby.

Oh - I do know the expected due date! 3/13/05! Maybe a St. Pat's baby?

I will have to start catching up on personals. I am so preoccupied, I could hardly write out a check this morning!

Hi again... back from my drs. appt.

Well, some things were just ok. My blood pressure was up a bit (140/85) and there was a little sugar in my urine test, but the dr. said it was ok as long as it didn't keep happening. I see the dr. every 2 weeks now, and go in twice a week for fetal testing. Had my first biophysical profile today, and he passed!! I love getting to see baby, and now I'll get to see him twice a week. Yay!!!!

Jenn: I was just like you are. TOTALLY nervous that something bad would happen. You are right, it's not good for you or the baby. You just have to realize that what happens will happen whether you worry or not. I'm so happy that your doctor appt was good. You will love that first u/s... it makes it all seem so real!

Teach: How awesome to see your baby every 2 weeks. I can't wait for that!!!
