birth control and low carb??

I have a question I have read in the past on the boards that when you take birth control there are 7 pills considered sugar pills. Will this affect my weight loss? Does anyone here not take those pills?

Also if any of you know the difference between ortho tri cyclen or Yasmin please let me know.
The Yasmin says that it redues sodium and water in your body and gives you more potussiam but the ortho tri clears up your skin.

Please let me know which is the better of the two in your opions.

TIA

The 7 "sugar pills" are the 7 ineffective pills you take while having your period. I'm not sure if they're made from actual sugar, or if this is just their name. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure you can skip all 7 pills (they're just there to remind you when to start taking the 'active' pills again), or you can use the Ortho-Evra patches like I do (instead of 7 inactive pills, you just don't wear a patch for a week).

Talk to your gyno.

If you don't mind me asking - has the patch effected your loss at all that you've noticed?
Thinking of going on it.

Yep - they are just a placebo. They're there so you don't get out of the habit of taking a pill.
You absolutely don't have to take them.

I've been on the patch for about a year now, and just started induction. So far, I've lost 12 pounds these three weeks, so I don't think it's having a negative affect. Also, my gyno told me it shouldn't hinder the process any significant amount (plus, I'm using it as hormone therapy for a killer TOM, so I'll take slower weight loss rather than those cramps).

You don't have to take the sugar pills. No idea if they affect blood sugar or not, but they are just a placebo - just to keep you in the habit of taking pills. If you can remember when to go back to taking pills, just skip the other 7.

Has anyone had a stall due to BC pills? I read on the atkins website that they have the potential to slow weight loss, just wondering if anyone has experienced this?

I was on the patch for 3 months prior to starting low carb... and I was constantly hungry. often gave in to it... gained 15ish pounds in that time.

I lost about 7 on induction... then it slowed to a crawl... at which time I got off the patch... and started to lose a little faster!

If you don't want to take the placebos just flush them daily at your normal taking time to stay in the habit of "taking" them. I'm not on the pill now but when I was I never took the placebo. I felt AWFUL when I was on it i was on ortho tri cyclen BTW!

i was on the patch about a year before LC. i purposely stopped using it before i started LC because of the water retention and bloating. i only used the patch to regulate me and not for birth control anyway so i'm glad to have the option not to be on it. but my friend just started using it and the water retention is really bad. she gained alot of weight with it.

I hated Yasmin SO much. I was a completely other person on it. However, I seem to be of the minority, as many others loved it.

I'm not particularly fond of it, either. Have been on it twice and both times it KILLED my libido (what makes it clear up complexion is the fact that it suppresses testosterone--good for skin, bad for sex drive). I did like how it helped my chronic water retention issues, though.

I just started the Nuvaring on Sunday and have already found that I am weighing more, thanks to more water in my system and I'm nowhere near AF. But my libido is better, so that makes both my DH and I happy...guess I can deal with the excess water in exchange for a normal sex drive, LOL!
