Morning Jen! Hope you enjoy your 1/2 day off!!!

I know I am only almost 33wks but can I say I am DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE Anyway I am DONE with this pregnancy crap.

Wanted to see if I could get any ideas from you all on something I could do with Erin for her birthday (June 29th). We usually celebrate it 4th of July weekend and I am usually really creative with themes/decorating etc... but I just can't do it this year. Every day the child asks if its her birthday and unfortunately we learned all about calenders, months, weeks, and days this past year so she KNOWS when it is. I thought about going to my parents weekend lake house and just invite the immediate family. Which are probably all meeting up there all ready. BUT the lake house is 1 1/2-2hrs from here and 3hrs from the hospital. I would be 36wks - do you think I should chance it going up there? It really seems to be the only solution to the problem b/c I don't think I could handle the zoo in the heat/walking or anything like that. I just don't know and I have so many other loose ends around here I am having a hard time concentrating on ONE thing and finishing it LOL (I MUST be pregnant or something) Anyway let me know if you all have any ideas.

Morning!

Jen, enjoy your half day! President Bush has given DH the day off as well

Angela, have you ever gone into labor early? Are your labors really short? If not then GO to the lake house and let EVERYONE else do the work. You just kick back and direct Wonder if your OB could check your cervix before you leave, just to set your mind at ease?

We had planned on a camping trip this weekend, although who in their right mind wants to camp when it's 90 degrees outside is beyond me! It looks like both DD's have sore throats and stuffy noses. I know that DH is trying to think of a way to phrase the question, "Can't you give them some decongestant and some hot tea so we can STILL go??"

Happy Friday!

Melissa - Congrats and ! What a great thing you're doing!! Where abouts in Illinois do you live? I live in the Chicago 'burbs. You don't want to see my typical menu - all I can say is that ice cream is in it pretty much everyday... LC ones, so not too bad, I guess. What we try to do typically is add fruits, whole grains, more veggies, and milk.

Jen - Enjoy your 1/2 day! Luckily, we have summer hours here, so we have 1/2 Fridays in summer months. Yay!

Angela - My OB said no traveling past 36w, and I'm not sure if they meant no travel by air or what. Lake house sounds wonderful, but your history w/ ctxs and being high risk, not to mention all the loose ends, I don't think if I would go if I were you. Although if your OB checked you out and gives you the thumbs up, then I would probably go. I'm not the best party planner, so I really can't help you w/ any other ideas. Sorry!

Stephanie - Camping in 90-degree weather doesn't appeal to me either. Have fun if you wind up going!

Kristen - The room is just too cute!!

I lost 2 lbs since last week! Woo hoo!!! I knew it was just water when I gained 6 lbs in 2 weeks! So I gained about 33 lbs so far. I hope I won't gain that much anymore.

Forgot to add, Tracy, I hope this is your weekend!!!

Suzanne - I'm glad your appt went well, and the bump was just a cyst.

Have a great weekend!

Stephanie: You know I didn't even think to have the dr check me! Thats a good idea. Unfortunately I had PROM & PE with my 1st at 36wks (12hr labor though), 2nd had PTL at 32wks then induced at 38wks w/PIH (1hr labor, 15min pushing). I think I am in denial that maybe this isn't the best idea... but I do have the brethine/terb if I contract. Anyway - I see you are in Pensacola! I love the panhandle - we usually head down there every year. We love the seafood - I have such a hard time eating seafood inland (I am originally from Charleston, SC). Geez, I could really go for some shrimp and scallops right now

Kristen: The room is the EXACT same color that I painted the girls LOL I love that color! Jessica is getting sooooo big and her hair is getting super long!!! I just love her curls - wish my girls had them!

Katie: Hey! Great job on the weight! Thank you for being my voice of reason even though that is not what I wanted to hear Like I told Stephanie - guess I am in denial

Suzanne: THAT is good news on the lump!!

Tracy: Did the stripping do anything for ya?

Good Morning Ladies!

I'm just checking in here...I think I have the first twinges of morning sickness! Oh no! It's more of an "Am I queasy or am I not?" rather than running to the bathroom. Also, I have been going from the OTHER end ever since my BFP. Is that normal?

Jen: Thanks for adding me to the list of PG ladies!
Angela: I usually got to the Martha Stewart site if I need ideas for stuff like that, but Martha may be a bit "busy" this year LOL!
Kristen: That is just the cutest little girl's room ever! Did you paint the dresser? Your DD looks so pleased!
Shenandoah: Yup, camping in 90 degree heat would not be my cup of tea either!
Tracy: Does stripping membranes hurt? It sounds like it would! Your little one will be here this weekend I bet! How exciting.
Suzanne: I'm glad to hear that's just a benign cyst. Nothing like adding to all our worries anyway during PG!
Ellen: I am sorry, but your BBQ story made me laugh! I would have had to leave the table too LOL.
Shandril: I need my backsplah done too, can you come over now that you know how to do it? We remodeled our kitchen TWO YEARS ago, and that has still not been done! You get to a point where it's functional, then the little things fall by the wayside. Can you tell this bugs me LOL?
Wendy: Is that glucose stuff sugary? What does that do if we are already LCing? I think I would be bouncing off the walls! Can you post a sample menu that your doc approved?
DFL: Happy (belated) B-day! And you're having a cashew!
Viki: Target had some darling little girl's clothes

I will post later to catch up. Not sure what this weekend will hold for me but it probably includes yard work! Yuk!

Hey Katie:
I noticed you're doing a low GI diet through PG too: what types of thing are you (or are you not) eating? Is it basically a Maintenance diet per the book?

Thanks! Kelley

Kristen: Well Michael just needs to HURRY UP LOL... We thought the girls would have a good chance with redhair. Here is what I found out in my research on the redhair recessive gene LOL: in order for redhair to appear in a generation both parents need to carry the gene... I have rh but it skips a generation in my family, Mike has rh and it is in EVERY generation of his family. With that being said and finding out that girls tend to take on more traits of the father's side and boys take more from their mother's (don't know why though) we definitely thought the girls would have redhair.... but now with a boy I have a feeling he might have the dark (Black Irish) hair that runs on my side of the family. Anyway that is my genetics lesson for the day I know you have the redhair gene on your side of the family - does your dh? If so you might just get a little redhead.

Kelley: I hope the MS stays away for you - its not fun! As for the other problem I did not have it early on in my pregnancy (some do I know) I am having that problem now since I started contracting..... wonderful

Good morning ladies!! I'm sorry, but I don't have much time this morning for personals...

All is well with me today. We are leaving tonight to go camping for the weekend. I'm really looking forward to it! It's so relaxing.

I still haven't felt much movement yet... in fact, I'm not even sure that I have felt it. I hope I feel it soon. I'm dying to! The baby's heartbeat is still so strong. I just love listening to it every night.

Kristen: Love the pictures! What an adorable room!!!

Hello Mommies,

Suzanne - What a relief about the cyst! Good luck on the thyroid issue. Hope it works out.

Angel - I wouldn't go, given your history. It's just too far from the hospital, and I'd hate to see you on the news as one of those moms who gave birth in the car at the side of the road

Do you have any relatives (like your hubby, Mom, sister, SIL, etc.) who would be willing to take on the planning and execution of the party so you can basically be a guest instead of the hostess? It might not be a bad idea to arrange something lika that anyway, just in case you go early, so she can still have her party as planned.

Welcome to all the newbies. Wow, forgive me if I don't get all your names right now, there seem to be so many of you.

A couple of people have asked for LC suggestions for pregnancy. I'll copy a page from the Brewer Diet below. I've found it a very good guideline, it's quasi-low carb with some fruits, milk, vegetables and whole grains added in. I don't add back as many starches in my diet as he suggests, but it should be fine as long as you're getting enough protein and you're not in ketosis. Instead of five servings of grains, I have more veggies and/or fruit, and allow myself one or two servings a day of things like a fresh ear of corn on the cob, or 2 slices of low-carb bread (used in a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato, bacon and avacado, yum).

Dr. Brewer's whole reason d'etre is to prevent pre-eclampsia and eclampsia (toxemia). His diet is supposed to be effective at preventing and/or reversing the symptoms. If nothing else, it's at least a very healthy diet. Here's the link to his menu web page:

http://www.blueribbonbaby.org/ifyoua...nt/index.shtml

from that, you can check out the rest of his site. In case the link isn't working, I've pasted below what the suggested foods for a healthy pregnancy are:

What Is A Good, Nutritious, Balanced Diet?

Every day of the week, you and your baby must have:

1.) One quart (4 cups) of milk. Any kind will do: whole milk, low
fat, skim, powdered, or buttermilk. If you do not like milk, you can substitute one cup of yogurt for each cup of milk.

2.) Two eggs.

3.) One or two servings of fish, shellfish, chicken or turkey, lean
beef, veal, lamb, pork, liver or kidney.

Alternative combinations include:

- Rice with beans, cheese, sesame, milk
- Cornmeal with beans, cheese, tofu, milk.
- Beans with rice, bulgur, cornmeal, wheat noodles sesame seeds, milk.
- Peanuts with: sunflower seeds, milk.
- Whole wheat bread or noodles with: beans, cheese, peanut butter, milk, tofu.

For each serving of meat, you can substitute these quantities of cheese:
- Brick 4 oz. Longhorn 3 oz.
- Camembert 6 oz. Muenster 4 oz.
- Cheddar 3 oz. Monterey Jack 4 oz.
- Cottage 6 oz. Swiss 3 oz.

4.) One or two servings of fresh, green, leafy vegetables:
mustard, beet, collard, dandelion or turnip greens, spinach,
lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, kale, Swiss chard.

5.) Five servings of whole grain breads, rolls, cereals or
pancakes: wheatena, 100% bran flakes, granola, shredded wheat, wheat germ, oatmeal, buckwheat or whole wheat
pancakes, corn bread, corn tortillas, corn or bran or whole wheat
muffins, waffles, brown rice.

6.) Two choices from: a whole potato (any style), large green
pepper, grapefruit, lemon, lime, papaya, tomato (one piece of fruit, or one large glass of juice).

7.) Three pats of butter.

Also include in your diet, in addition to the above (i.e., don't count one food in two categories):

- A yellow- or orange-colored vegetable or fruit five times a week.
- Liver once a week, if you like it.
- Table salt: SALT YOUR FOOD TO TASTE
- Water: Drink to thirst.

It is not healthy for you and your unborn baby to go even 24 hours without good food!

Hope this helps. BBL.

LizzyD

P.S. I forgot to add, I don't eat liver either

I TRY to do low GI. I have a book on GI and GL. Some facts are very interesting. This author actually recommends eating 200-300g carbs a day (I'm sure I meat that recommendation ). Did you know table sugar has medium GI? And acidic foods have lower GI, like sourdough bread (when compared to regular bread)? It's the white flours and starches that are high in GI. So I stick to whole grains (sprouted and stone ground flours have lower GI), and eat protein, fiber, and/or fat with my high GI foods. I stay away from high GL fruits and veggies like bananas and white potatoes, although I have some occasionally. Because I have reactive hypoglycemia, I pretty much know which foods give me problems. Although sugar is medium GI, it does affect me quite a lot, so I try to stay away from all medium GI stuff, but it hasn't been very successful. Fructose in real fruits are OK with me.

Sorry I wrote a book, but HTH!

Angela - Your girls are sooo adorable! I want a girl, darn it!!!!

Sarah - Enjoy camping!

Lizzy - Wow, I feel sooo guilty now. I seemed to have developed a little bit of aversion to veggies lately. I see 2 problems - Camembert cheese and liver. First is probably unpasteurized, which PG ladies should not be eating. Liver is not recommended because, I think it contains a lot of contaminants (think of what our livers do) - it was in What to Expect book. How is this diet going?

Katie,

I agree with your input about the liver and camembert. Soft cheeses, liver, and now mercury content in certain fish are to be avoided during pregnancy. The Brewer Diet was created before those health warnings came out. That's why I adjust (and add more veggies) as needed.

- Sorry I am not that talented or organizied. We actually purchased the furniture like that from Value City. I wanted to get Jessica a really beautiful expense set from Levin Furniture but my husband was afraid she would ruin it. So we compromised and I got her this. I am happy with the room but I am sure when she is like 12 she will HATE it.-

Thanks Katie and Lizzie foe the menu suggestions. I guess I need to have more milk products. I should probably cut out the CarbCountdown chocolate milk (which I love) and add in the real thing.

Kelley,

I would compare the nutrient contents of both products. If the protein and calcium contents are equal, but the carb count is lower in the choc. milk, I'd stick with the chocolate.

TGIF everybody,

Welcome all you new mommies to be!! I'm so glad we are getting more and more people. I was sad that we were getting a little small when a bunch of women had their babies!

Alexia is beautiful Cyn... and I agree with the others, so are you!!

Angela-don't overdo it for Erin's birthday. Maybe you should just throw a party and get a bunch of people to help you. Are there any local water-parks you could let loose a bunch of kids on? That is always a fun summer activity! Or mini-golf!! I think you should definitely stay close to home! Your girls are so cute!! I think they'll enjoy having (and picking on) a little brother.

Lizzy- I've still be keeping close to the Brewer diet, but I don't eat enough eggs daily and I still am eating too many refined carbohydrates. I need discipline!!

Kara- have a good longer weekend!! I'm jealous! I work tonight and then work again on Sunday. No rest for the wicked.

Kristen-You did such a great job on Jessica's room. Wow, it looks amazing. I'm too lazy. I have all these great ideas for the nursery, but when it comes down to it, I don't have the energy to decorate. Maybe that nesting feeling will hit soon. I still am not completely convinced that the baby is a girl... you know the reliability of ultra-sounds, so I'm holding off on the pinks and purples for now.

Suzanne- it is really weird. I read a post from you about pain in the right side when your walking... the next day I get a pain in my right side when I walk. Guess what I noticed under my arm, in the shower this morning. A lump!! I guess I felt it a little last night, I just thought that my bra was rubbing the wrong way. But I have a smallish, tender lump in my armpit. I'm glad you're okay and the lump isn't anything to worry about... but am I that open to suggestion? If I start having some thyroid problems I'm really gonna worry. We might have some kind of pychic connection. Or pychotic connections, as the case may be

Desp-Sorry about the food poisoning!! I wish you a very speedy recovery. Happy belated birthday!!

Hi Kelley... I hope you don't get morning sickness too badly!! I lucked out and was only sick for the first trimester.

Tracy... I hope things are finally going. Sorry about all the cramps.

Shenandoah-Good luck with the camping. I don't camp. I like my creature comforts far too much to camp. Last time we tried to camp, I made DH get a Band B after only one night tenting!!

Hi to whoever I've missed!!

Nicole

Good morning everyone! Thank god its Friday. I so do not feel like working today.

Hey, I forgot to ask you expecting moms, how much time are you going to take off of work (if you are going to return to work)? I would really like to take at least 3 months off this time if not more. It'll all depend on our financial situation.

Kelley, I've been drinking a cup of vitamin D milk. Its got the less carbs of all the milks but if the lowcarb stuff is working for you, go ahead and stick to it. I believe it has all the nutrients and stuff from regular milk but less carbs. Actually, now thinking about it, I may just switch over too.

Angela, I would check in with your doctor too. Especially since you have a history of delivering early. Have you thought of having it at a CHuckee Cheese or something? That would seem the easiest way to me. The kids will have a blast and the best part, no cooking, cleaning up or preparations for you! Your girls are so cute!

Sarah, I don't think I felt the baby kick until later on in the pregnancy. Beginning of my third trimester I think. Probably because I had no idea what I was supposed to be feeling until it was really obvious!

Kristin, Jessica's room looks great. Love the colors. If I was a little again, I would love to have a room like that.

Hi to everyone else. Better go check my work emails.
