Morning Guys,

Pfgal--We actually dipped below 30 degrees and have a thin layer of ice over the grass; that's about as severe as our weather gets. But then I guess 105 degrees in the summer is pretty severe! Sadly I'm going to be at my most pregnant during August, which is the hottest month.

Heid--That picture is one to frame!

Thanks for all the answers on outgrowing clothes. I went to Target and found a really cute outfit for only $30. The winter sales right now are great and I figure I'll need stretchy clothes for next winter.

Have a good humpday all.

Good Morning Ladies!

I hope all is well with everyone.

I'm doing okay. I slept with one of those disposable heating pads on last night and it was such a relief. I felt a zillion times better this morning.

I'm getting ready to go to my 23 week appointment in about an hour. I'm not sure what is going on today beside just asking questions about how I'm doing. I wonder if I'm getting an internal exam. I haven't had one since my first appointment. Does any other of you ladies have to have internal exams?

Well besides that nothing excited to write about so far. Me and my SIL both have dr. appts today so after our appts we are going to lunch. I guess since DH is going to appt we might let him eat with us. LOL

Take care and have a God Blessed Day!

Morning Ladies,

A cold front with cool, dry north winds blew in last night. I actually had to sleep with a sheet over me. It will surprise me if it gets above 80 today. This is the kind of day when I am not sorry I can't dive---too cold for me out there.

Cyn, with #1 I never had an internal exam until the week he was due. I have a new doctor now so I'll find out as time goes on.

Everybody have a great day!

Tiger - Since you're in nursing ... what do you think of this?

Pregnancy: Preliminary studies suggest borage oil has a teratogenic effect and that its prostaglandin E agonist action may cause premature labor.

Teratogenic: Of, relating to, or causing malformations of an embryo or fetus.

LAUREN - YAY! No more snow and ice!!!

TROLLY - I hear ya... I'm a TX girl too! Where are you at in TX? I'm in Dallas (Plano, actually).

CYNTHIA - I haven't had an internal exam yet. I don't think I will until 36 weeks, but I’m not sure.

As for those heating pads… I hear they’re a godsend. I know a lot of women who use the ones for menstrual cramps, and they don’t have enough good things to say!

THININMEX – I would envy you, but I’m starting to go through those hot flashes now, which actually makes a TX winter almost enjoyable. It’s not severely cold, but it’s been anywhere from the low 30’s to the high 50’s (it got up to 69 this last weekend… Of course, being in TX, the next day it got down to 28! LOL!)…

Hank was disappointed last night. I made him skip our childbirth class because he was sick. (I don't need to infect a room full of pregnant women.) Of course, this was the class where we covered emergency childbirth... If the baby comes too fast to be delivered by the midwife. I gave him a nice handout with all the instructions, and I told him the short version that our instructor (one of the Midwife Assistants) told us... 1)Catch the baby 2)Keep the baby warm. Simple enough, huh? LMAO!

Okay, so I don't want this to happen, and most likely it won't, but I guess you should at least be aware and prepared.

He was very sad because he missed "the good stuff". I told him not to worry... Next class is about breastfeeding! LOL!

Oh, one more thing... I keep thinking about this dream I had the other night… I’d had Little Anna Vista, but she was so quiet, that I kept forgetting about her… Forgetting to feed her… Change her… All that jazz. WTH is this bothering me? I mean, I’ve taken care of an infant before… Heck, my first job was taking care of infants in a nursery. Just one of those things that keeps nagging at me. UGH.

good afternoon ladies!

We had another sonogram yesterday. OMG! It was incrediable!

Both babies moving like crazy, but in different ways. They are/stacked one on top of the other. The top one was dancing just the same way Daddy dances! So cute. The lower one was done vaginally, it was really low, now I know why I have so much pressure right there. The lower one was rolling, everytime the Dr would get all lined up and ready to freeze frame, it was like she knew it and rolled. Absolutely amazing how fast they move. All arms and legs were going a mile a minute. I did have a caffenated tea like 40 minutes before we got into the sonogram.
We told the Dr that I am declining the anmio. It wasn´t like she was trying to talk me into it, but she was still explaining the need for it. I am sorry, after the last scare and bedrest with loss of liquid. I cannot.
So she took all kinds of measurements (we spent like 45 minutes) She made measurements of the fat pads on the back of the necks. Told us if it measured 3mm or more and a flat face, she would reccomend anmio. Both babies measured 1.6 and 1.3 and the face and noses look wonderful.
So I was a relieved happy camper!

We have another sonogram the 23rd of Feb to find out sexes. I would lay bets that the lower one is a girl.

oh, both of my first boys were also born face up, I did not have back labor at all.

Have a wonderful day!

Sorry girls for not posting more. It's crazy around here lately as I'm getting ready for this little guy to come.

I've been taking the borage oil for 2 days now and feel crampy about 1/2 hour after I take them. I've lost 2 chunks of my plug but not feeling anything else other than cramping. My sister sent me a link, though, and has me worried about it possibly causing birth defects so now I'm kinda freaking out. I hope Tiger can put me at ease. I know her kids are normal but defects don't always show up right away, ya know? Need to do more research.

Gonna go eat breakfast ...

W/my last pregnancy they didn't start interntal exams until after the 30th week (I think 34 weeks or so). I think they'll do the same thing this time, even though I'm with a new dr.

Good Morning!

Cyn: My midwives don't do internal exams until 36wks. They usually don't like to "stir things up" unless they HAVE to. Have a great lunch!!

Suzanne: 80 degree weather sounds wonderful to me right now. I keep telling dh that this cold is in my bones and I am never going to get warm again (even with the heat on).

Jenn: Poor Hank, hope he feels better!! As for the dream - its just a dream, don't read to much into it. LOL Maybe its just saying you are going to have a sweet quiet child who likes to lay around looking at everything and doesn't cry much Unlike both of MY girls LOL

Chris: So happy the twins are doing well and their measurements were great!! We are on the same week and I was wondering exactly what I would see if I were to have an ultrasound now - they have all their little facial/body features, how neat!!!

Heidi: Interesting about the Borage Seed Oil - let us know what you find out! Maybe the problems you have found if the oil is used over a progressed period of time???

Hi Lauren - Hi Trolly!!

Red - Glad to hear you had such an awesome sonogram!!!!

Heidi - I hope you get the answers to your borage seed oil question. I was hoping to use that stuff myself, so I'm anxious to hear what you find out about it.

Jenn - Poor Hank! I hope he gets feeling better soon!

Heidi I've never heard of such a thing. Could they be talking about taking it early in pregnancy? I'm not sure where you got that link but midwives have been using evening primrose and borage seed oil for a long time to soften the cervix. In addition, OB-GYNs regularly use prostaglandin E gel on the cervix to ripen it for induction. Also, of course, semen has prostaglandins in it. Yes, prostaglandins can precipitate softening of the cervix, thus opening it, thus indirectly causing premature labor. However, you are not premature. You are full term so no worries there.

I suggest you do your own search on "borage seed oil" and "cervix" and see what you come up with.

So I'm not sure how or why prostaglandins would be teratogenic. Let's think about it for a minute. Teratogenic implies causing birth defects and it's impossible to cause a birth defect at this point - your baby is full term and fully formed! It's not like his arms and legs are going to suddenly shrink to flaps, kwim? I feel I've done enough research and I feel comfortable with my decision to use it. But of course if you are worried about it, don't take it. I suggest consulting with a midwife or herbalist if possible before taking any herbs, or at least buying a good herb book.

Hi!

I had a friend give me some red raspberry leaf tea at the beginning of my past pg and told me it was good for pregnancy and to drink it all the time, her midwife highly recommended it

So I drank a few cups, figured, what could be dangerous about a red raspberry leaf. But then I checked it out online and found TONS of sites that said, "danger! this tea can cause miscarriage in the 1st trimester, don't drink it" Well of course I stopped, although I know there are many midwives who recommend it throughout pregnancy.

During my last preg I was in a HUGE hurry to go into labor, but would not do anything my doctor did not approve of. I have heard too many stories about women taking things into their own hands with disastrous results. I felt comfortable with having lots of sex because that is a natural act and my doctor told me to.

Honestly if it were me I wouldn't take anything your doctor doesn't know about and approve of. It just wasn't worth the risk to me.

I agree with mrstigerlily that the borage seed oil most likely couldn't cause the baby's body to suddenly change, but other things could happen, we just don't know.

And there are always stories of women who do all sorts of stuff that is highly dangerous when pregnant and their babies turn out fine, but that doesn't mean your baby would. I'd check with your dr just in case.

Have a good morning everyone! I need to go exercise while the kiddos are occupied playing or it won't ever happen!

You know, I could find probably a hundred links on the internet that tell us Atkins or other low carb plans are going to cause kidney failure, kidney stones, osteoporosis, etc. As we know that is misinformation or it is research on something else that has been twisted to SOUND like the correct information when really it's taken out of context.

I haven't seen or heard of this problem with prostaglandins and it seems pretty silly to me as semen has prostaglandins in it. I think it we all mull this over we will realize it to be true. Yes, there are women who do "all sorts of dangerous things" and their babies turn out ok but we are not talking about that here. I'm NOT saying something ridiculous like "oh, it's ok to shoot heroin the last few weeks of the pregnancy since the baby is fully formed it won't cause birth defects" even though that might actually be true. No, we're talking about an essential fatty oil which is essential to the body, just like flax or omega-3 oils found in fish. These oils are found naturally in our food and they are extremely beneficial.

http://www.go-symmetry.com/info/borage-seed.htm!

My nurse-midwife I had last pregnancy recommended borage seed oil or evening primrose oil in the last few weeks to ripen the cervix. This time I have an OB-GYN and he has not. That's not surprising though, as midwives prefer the natural route, OB-GYNs the medical way. If Heidi is scheduled for an induction at the hospital they will apply prostaglandin-E gel to her cervix, send her home, have her come back the next day, give her a cervical check to assess ripeness, then hook her up to an IV with pitocin to make the uterus contract. A midwife will recommend borage or evening primrose oil and less invasive and more natural interventions.

Personally, I'm with you, Abbysmommy as far as preferring the natural route. I don't want pitocin and I don't want to be hooked up to an IV. Softening the cervix with oral prostaglandins is the best route (in the case of taking something with prostaglandins in it or giving your husband oral sex and swallowing his semen daily - sorry if that's TMI but that's really the best way), the second best way is to have prostaglandins applied directly to the cervix (in the case of the gel or in the case of intercourse)

Now, I'm not big on performing oral sex especially right now. I prefer the borage seed oil! Now I suggest everyone else do their own research and if you have a midwife instead of an OB-GYN, ask her what she thinks. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Tigerlily

Thanks Tiger. I hope I didn't offend you, I never implied that you would give me bad information. It just had me a little freaked. That is the only article that I saw that suggested it could cause problems. All others say it's perfectly safe (and cheaper than EPO) to use in the last days of pregnancy. I'm going to keep taking it as I feel the effects of it working (I lost some plug last night and some more this morning with pink streaked toilet paper)! There is no way I can tolerate oral sex right now, or otherwise, so this'll have to do. Thanks for your input. It's good to have someone so knowledgeable around for us.

I feel like doing absolutley nothing today. It rained last night and looks like it's going too again today. I just feel like a big lazy lump. I'm going to have DH take Kayla to her grandma's again today to play with her cousins that she watches and I'm going to take a nap. I was awake last night for almost 2 hours for no stink'n reason. Now I feel exhausted.

Good morning. I am so glad to have the day off today, though I'm awfully busy running around catching up on errands.

Morning sickness is still pretty bad. I'm trying to be good with my eating, but I find I'm craving junk food that is bad for me. Cheeseburgers or chinese noodles, at the moment. Might have to give in and get some.

Other than that it's thankfully a quiet day.

Ellen,

I feel so sorry for you. I am hoping not to get the morning sickness this time. I had it my last pregancy and actually ended up losing 14 pounds my first trimester.

Angelhope- Thanks
