Women Only-Please
Ok. So after the last pregnancy NONE of my bras fit right. Then with the fluctuations of my weight...they are all out of wack. And just the other day my one GOOD bra broke. So off to Lane Bryant I went...they were having a sale. So I go in looking for a 40D. I get up to the counter and notice a measuring tape around the lady's neck. So I asked her if they do measurments. She said yes, and we went into the dressing room. (*NOTE: This was my first time actually being measured to get the RIGHT size.) She does the first measurment and tells me that I am a 38. I thought ok, that sounds about right. THEN!!!!! She does the second one and tells me that I am measuring at about a DDD!!!!!!!!
I couldn't believe it! Shock of the year!! I would have never guessed. Now it has been a few days. The funnyness has yet to wear off yet. Bob keeps saying it's not like they have changed...but yet they have. I thought maybe you guys could use a laugh. But here is my question. Once I start to really shed off this weight, will I lose some of these too? Because I can't imagine what I would look like weighing 150lbs with this huge 38DDD chest. Bob probably wouldn't mind but I don't think I would feel comfortable. Thanks for your thoughts!! Amanda

Amanda, how old is the baby?
I remembered after daughter came i had more than a year to fit into my old bras. So be patient. Its depending from your hormonal stats. When losing weight, take care not to loose to fast. Yes woman loose very fast at the breasts, some loose *only*there! Dont care for now. the next C-cup is in sight! ALex |

I'm a 36F right now (but have to wear a 38 DDD since you can't just walk into Macy's and buy a 36F
). My DS weaned almost 18 mos ago after nursing for 2 years.I've always been large busted and at my thinnest I was a 32DD. I lose weight around my ribcage but not in my breasts themselves. Maybe it will be different since I have actually "used" my breast tissue now. I'm eager to see where I end up at my goal weight. If they're still big then I'm definitely getting a reduction. My childbearing days are over so no more purposeful boobs. lol And don't be so surprised about needing a bigger cup. Lots of women who finally get measured find that they've been wearing the wrong bra size for ages. Just because we can squeeze them in doesn't mean it is the right fit. ![]()

I had a breast reduction 17 years ago at the age of 30. The turning point for me was when I was measured for a custom strapless bra (had to have one for a bridesmaid's dress) and the lady told me I was something like a triple F. She did say that the custom size measurements are different than regular ones, but I left there in tears and had the reduction 3 months later. I had been wearing store bought double D's, but my "cups runnethed over"
Btw, at the time, I had just lost over 100 pounds and was only about 30 pounds overweight.Linda |

I've always had large breasts as well. As my torso gets smaller my cup size increases (which is normal for bra sizes). I did find that eventually my cup size started to decrease -- but that was after a LARGE weight loss. I guess I'm saying there is always hope!
One thing that helps a great deal is a very well made bra. I used to wear LB bras and frankly I don't think they are very good. Try a WACOAL bra. They are very pricey but last a very long time (if you care for it properly by not washing it in the machine) and they specialize in proper fit for large breasts. Once you wear a VERY good bra like WACOAL you will never be able to stand those cheap bras again. It makes a huge difference in comfort, fot and even posture. Give them a try. At least go try one on and feel the different it makes when you have a GOOD bra. You will be amazed! WACOAL is available at Nordstroms and in the midwest they have them at Dillards. There are proably available at other high end department stores but I'm not sure where exactly. Good luck! -Kirstin ![]()

I'm worried about this but in the other direction. I'm a size B and have 30 lbs. to lose. I'm afraid I'm going to end up wearing a training bra!!
"As my torso gets smaller my cup size increases (which is normal for bra sizes)" I don't understand this... how is this possible? |

Yep, you'll lose some of your "breasticles". (That's what I call mine...they hang down and look funny!)
But if you're like me, the first place you'll lose weight is your fingers, toes, ears and nose! All the places you WANT to lose weight...NOT!! Tonya |

***SIGH***
Well, I started out a full 42C and after losing 54lbs I am in a 36B. sniff...sniff...sniff... I would have been happy staying a C. I still have another 18lbs until I reach goal. Hopefully there will be something left. I have had 3 children(only nursed the last one) and got up to a very full D cup with the last one. Unfortunately, the "girls" were the first to go.
Oh well, I can get some good "lifters" and still look good in clothes!!! LOLJill |

This reminded me of not too long ago, I had a coupon for $5 off a bra at Victorias Secret. I wasn't going to use it, as in the store, they only stock up to sz 40 and I usually bought 42Cs or 44Cs, depending on the brand. VS runs small too, so I knew there was no way! The little bitty gal offered to measure me and she told me I needed a 48D!!!! GOOD GRIEF!! I about died! I told her, "give me the biggest one you've got and I'll try it" It was a 40 D and guess what, the cup was too big! The band was a little snug, but it did go on. I would've probably bought it if they'd have had a 42C...what I always bought! How in the heck she got a 48D, I'll never know!! She asked how it fit and I told her the 40 went around me, but was a little snugger than I like. She looked at me like there was NO way a 40 could fit someone who "supposedly" needed a 48! lol! No commision for her!

I have permanent indentations in my shoulders from the last five years.
I gained all my weight from 1999 -2003 ... and went from 38D to 48 DDD. I looked heavier than people who weighed fifty pounds more than I. So far, in a year, sixty pounds gone and I'm down to a 42 DD ... thank goodness.~jezzie Last edited by jezzie : 01-25-2004 at 10:51 AM. |

The only time I have ever had a decent chest is when I was over weight. I started my last pregnancy at my highest weight ever and ended up huge (for me) at 38 D. Now I am back down to a 34 to 36 C. My husband is a bit disappointed but I am so much more comfortable. I am also pregnant again so I am not throwing away my 38 D nursing bras just yet.

I am sure they will shrink once you start losing some more weight!
If you are looking for some really comfortable bras I suggest Victoria Secret's Body by Victoria (the ones with the thick straps). They are quite expensive though (about $40), but I feel they are so comfortable that they are really worth it. |

*grins* Ah yes - the boobs.
I would look at the women in you family (mothers AND fathers side) to figure out if they are going to shrink. My family on both sides have very large breasts - my mother (who is 5 inches taller than I am) is a 40DDD. My aunt was a 42I - she had a reduction years ago. My greataunt is 5'1 and wears a 34DDD, so I pretty strongly suspected that I wouldn't lose much in the cup region. I've lost 50 pounds so far, and I've gone from a 42DDD to a 36DDD - but I have to wear 38DDD because I refuse to spend 40 bucks on a bra that I'm going to shrink out of. Another way to get a general 'grasp' on how much your breasts may shrink is to simply palpitate them. The plastic surgeon I went to for a reduction consult told me this - the 'lumpier' your breast's feel - the more actual breast tissue there is, and the less likely they are to shrink. The 'smoother' they are - that most likely means they are mostly fat, as as you lose weight, they too will shrink. I'm waiting until I'm close to goal to go in for a reduction as I'm large enough that I might be able to talk my insurance company into paying for it - but I've already hit that most frustrating point where I can no longer wear button down shirts that actually fit! And to think people PAY for this?!

After losing some weight my torso size is now 36, but my my breast measurement is still 42. SO now my bra size is 36DD(ish). My cup size went UP even though my torso size went DOWN. Sooooooo if your torso gets smaller but your boobs don't shrink your cup size increases (not decreases). Now if your torso AND boobs shrink that your cup size may decrease as well (or stay the same). Does that make sense? I'm quite the bra expert as I am constantly searching for my perfect (holy grail) bra: I think WACOALs are the best out there for large breasts. Most women wear the wrong size bra and it really can make a huge difference to get measured and get the right size. Hope that helps! -Kirstin |

I debated sharing this experience with you guys, but now I am glad I did. It was very informative...not just for me but others too. Today I wore one of the new bras and I felt very supported. It's amazing what a difference the right size can make.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts...and support !!!Amanda |

I have to break down & get measured. I keep buying bras, they fit in the store, but as soon as I put them on at home & bend over, I literally fall out of them. I was in (I think) either a 42 or 44 D, now in a 34D, as long as I don't bend over. I HATE bra shopping.

Is it suppose to hurt?
I've lost a lot of weight around my ribcage and my D cup "girls" are enormous. The last few nights, they really hurt. I started wearing a sport bra to bed for the support.
When they shrink, are they suppose to hurt? They're fine when I get up and put on a regular bra, but still a little tender. Has anyone else had this experience? |

For big boobs....
try a Goddess brand bra. I buy mine at a lingerie store, but I think they also have a website. They have big bras that fit nice and DON"T have underwires!!! Which is really important to me. They do look like they were designed by someone with a structural engineering degree.
But at least they fit. I have never had any luck buying bras in department stores. I highly recommend finding a lingerie shop that sells just lingerie, and getting fitted for a bra. It makes a world of difference in how you look. Quote:

The only time I even felt tender was just before TOM. Maybe that's it. Vitamin E and B Complex helps. Anyone know if you measure with or without a bra (for cup size I mean)??

When I've been measured it's always been without a bra, and bending over. it's not the most dignified position, so be sure that you like your saleslady.

I'm resigned to the fact that the girls will shrink. I've already lost a half inch *sob*. The part that really irritates me is that my almost 11 yo DD is wearing the same or bigger size as me.
I bought some bras this summer for us. 34-36 B&C cups, since we were both kind of between cup sizes. Well, I'm not going down from 36 to 34 band size and she is going from b to c cup. Pretty soon all the bras in my drawer will be in hers and all her training bras will be in my drawer. She must get it from her dad's side, since there's not a decent set on my side, even if you put us all together. On the bright side, I can wear the cool boots she bought with her Christmas money when she outgrows them soon. ![]() |

Dang
Dang to all you Dolly Partons out there.
When I lose - I lose what little boobs I have first. I'd give anything if they would stay the same. I have never been formally measured for a bra, but that is on my list of things to do when I get to the mall. Only thing is the people that work at the Victoria's Secret here are all 19 year old girls that weigh 90 lbs soaking wet and I don't know that they even know how to measure someone. I know they know how to unlock dressing rooms though. Might get measured somewhere else, then use my gift certificate to VS that my dh got me for Christmas. I am tempted to wait though until my current bras get too big.

I've been a 36C for as long as I can remember. But after 30 lbs. of loss, my "girls" seem more petite. My bras are still fine (I think), but I just feel smaller. I usually lose weight proportionally everywhere, so I guess I should be grateful that I'm not top-heavy now. You guys have big boobs! Most of my friends wear bras in the AAA-B range. In fact, mine have always been the biggest of the bunch ("ample" as one of my friends says).

new motivation
All this talk about growing bigger twins with weight loss is motivating me.
I have always been a good B shy C, so maybe when I lose my 25 lbs I'll be a "D" - yippee-, and if not, I'll lose another 10 or so. I kinda like the way that bra system works. |

I will be undergoing reduction surgery next month, since it is obvious that weight loss will not get rid of these beasts (or the saggy-ness). Some women lose from their bust-line when they lose elsewhere--I am not one of them. Do you have dense breasts and did they enlarge a great deal when you were pregnant? If that is the case, then you likely will also not lose much with weight loss, unfortunately. If you are at all interested in a future reduction, a r |
