Birth Control Question
Im going to be getting back onto birth control here soon after being off of it for almost a year and a half. Im just very concerned, because the last stuff i was on, It was called Mircette, made me gain about 15lbs! Im doing so well on this WOE, and the last thing I want is to gain weight from birth control. Does anyone have suggestions for a pill that doesn't make them gain weight? I know everybodys body reacts different to it, but I would like to see if a lot of people are using one certain pill and it is not making them gain. Also, has anyone heard any good or bad stories about the patch? Any suggestions are welcome!

I am on the Pill(Nordette) and havent experienced any weight gain yet. They say the Patch works best if you are under 180 lbs which you almost are so maybe check into that?

I've been on the pill for about 2.5 years. Its a very low dose. Its called Low-Ogestrel-28. I was concerned about weight gain when I started , however my doctor explained to me that it will not cause weight gain, it may cause increased appetite, so if I controlled what I put in my mouth, I should have no problem.
I've lost 122 pounds in that time, so I'd say she was right I would suggest you talk to your doctor about your concerns of weight gain and see if a low dose pill will work for you!

I haven't heard much about weight gain with the patch but I have to say, you have to be ready and committed to changing your sites and putting it on/taking it off at the right times.
I am on low-dose pills. They were called Lo-Estrin, and then Microgest and they just changed the name again--its all generic stuff. I think the Lo-Estrin was the brand name. I don't use it for birth control, which is good because it's a low-enough dose that even taking it faithfully I sometimes ovulate. So you need to weigh in also the risks/benefits of the different doses. I believe like the other poster that as long as you watch what you put in your mouth you should be fine. You have the great eating habits now of LC'ing so that is on your side. |

I'm on a low-dose as well. It's called Min-Ovral and I have just moved from the 28 day to the 21 day. Figured I didn't need those duds (some are sugar pills so make sure to check when deciding on a new pill)

I'm on continuous dosage of Levelan and not had a problem. Again, it's something you may want to talk to your doctor about before making a decision. Good luck!

I've been on Estrostep FE for about five years with no weight problems. And that was my main concern when I started it back then. In fact, I think I may have lost 1-2 pounds after starting it, and I get a lot less bloated around TOM. Of course, every pill affects women in different ways, so sometimes trial and error is your best bet.

Thank you for the responses everyone...
Is it correct to assume that if you are on a low dosage birth control that you could become pregnant more easily than on a regular dosage of BC? This low dosage thing just sounds great to me. Because the stuff I was on before not only made me gain weight, but it made me really emotional also. I will definitely talk with my doctor about this. Thank you all for the birth control suggestions! I will mention some of these to my doctor as well and check with my Insurance to make sure if any of them are covered on my plan. |

Yasmin may be a good choice for you. It is a relatively low-dose combination pill and is the only that can actually help a woman lose weight, since it helps prevent water retention.
I am switching back to Yasmin after having been on Micronor (Progestin-only "mini-pill") for the past 6 months to control my endo and adeno--I'm sick of 20 day cycles with 10 day periods, since Micronor is a constant, daily dosage (with no break) and isn't regulating my cycles, as I had hoped it would. Good luck. Sometimes the best way to find a form of BC to work is thought LOTS of trial and error. I had my tubes tied so that I could avoid the pill, but then my uterine issues were discovered, so now I'm back on the pill to help control those...stinks bein' a girl, sometimes.... Kirsten |

I've been on the patch (OrthEvra) since I had my daughter. Lemme tell ya, I'm fertile myrtle. I was preggo 3 times within a year and half trying to have my daughter. I've been on the patch for 14 months now and absolutly love it. My cycle has shortened to 3 days and ightened signifigantly. I didn't notice any effect of my weight or appetite. My pregnancy high was 256, I got down to 205 without doing anything, then now 180 with this new WOE. I've only had the edges peel up on me one time during the summer when I was outdoors sweating alot. I changed it to be safe, but have never had it fall off. I was on the pill (OrthoTricyclin) in college and the patch wins hands down in my book.
