Hey gals!!! We have a definite girl...there were still no parts there yesterday!! When Dona, my friend's Mom, was looking at me she still couldn't get a wonderful angle, but could see enough to tell there were no boy parts. Then another U/S tech came in to grab her coat and Dona asked her to look too - that tech said girl as well. So - I'm feeling much more confident about going with a girly-fied theme!! Yeah!!

Tracy - I'm not feeling the baby on a consistent basis AT ALL!! I really thought I would be by now, so it's weird! I don't feel her everyday, and when I do it's when I'm sitting still, driving, or whatever. I haven't ever felt movement while I was up walking around or anything.

LessCarbsMoreMe - I didn't read your thread yet, but from the title it looks like all is well!!! Whew, what a relief!! I'm so happy it's all okay!!!! {{HUGS}}

This is going to seem like a really dorky question, but I need to know the average size of a newborn head. I've looked online and can't find it anywhere! My Mom is making a bonnet and the last one she made for a newborn was too big.

Awww Lauren, that's great! I had to come check first thing this morning to see what you found out. My neighbor looked at my U/S pic and said she thought she saw boy parts. I am seriously thinking about going and having another $59 U/S done to be sure also. I would really hate to do the nursery all in pink and then find out at my 4D that she has a taliwacker. LOL.

As for moving, it's been 4 days now that I haven't felt her I guess they just go through periods of rest and growth. I don't drink any caffeine, so maybe I should just to see if I can get her moving. When she does move, I REALLY feel it now. A lot of rolling on the left side of my naval. Her heart was around 150 BPM last night.

Anyway- that's wonderful news! Glad your not wondering anymore!

Hi to all mommies!

You got me there. Have her go with her little measure tape thingee to Sears and measure a preemie hat next to a regular newborn. She could then average a size between. There may even be head measurments on the tag

I'd definitely have another one...you never know!! Has your neighbor seen a lot of sonograms and do you consider her a reliable source?? Just curious! I'm still debating on whether or not to keep my 4D appointment. I really don't care about the facial pics, etc... but just want verification that it's a girl. I feel pretty confident about it, but I dunno...we'll see! I'll have to think about it, haha!

Lauren- no, she hasn't seen that many. She does have two little boys though and one girl. The lady that did mine is so popular (and her machine is so clear) that there's a 3 weeks waiting list to get in. I saw the 3 lines when I was there, I think my neighbor is just trying to inflict a little doubt in my mind

I am really excited about the 4D. I will post some pics as soon as I get them. I still wish I had had the 20 week U/S to look at all the organs and bones. I just think that is so wrong that the military won't do that.

Hi Guys,

I haven't check in for awhile but I have been lurking. I woke up this morning feeling queasy and like a truck had hit me...exhausted! Did any of you guys wake UP feeling exhausted in the first trimester? I imagined getting sleepy in the afternoons, not right when I first wake up! Also, I feel like I've been gaining weight too soon because I've been going crazy with the carbs. Ugh. Any advice on how to keep it in check would be appreciated.

6 days 'till my first appt/sonogram!

Pfgirl--It's a girl! Congrats on knowing for sure.

Hi Tracy!

Trolly,

I tried to stick to carrot sticks with ranch, rolled up ham, cheese squares for light snacks. Eat often. I would avoid the crackers if you can help it. You may also want to try some wheat toast with peanut butter. I like bananas and cheerios. I dont worry to much about carbs Atkins won't let you have as long as you are getting lots of vitamins and protein. Skipping meals will make your M/S worse. I never had any this time around, so I was lucky!

Good luck at your U/S!

Hi Ladies,

I was out of comission for about 24 hours. I came home Monday afternoon with a SEVERE headache, I've never felt anything so wretched. Also Monday I wasn't able to keep any food or any liquids down and just felt plain icky. I took Tuesday off of work to recoup and am doing much better now. I just still feel a little worn out, but other than that I'm good.

I noticed today and yesterday that the 2-3 pounds that I had gained since becoming pregnant are gone. Thats not really a problem since i'm still early in my pregnancy is it?

Trolly: YES! I felt exhausted upon waking during the first couple of months all the time. I thought I was going to die having to go to work every day. I was just exhausted all the time.

Lauren: That's great that you got further verification of a girl I think I'd have the 4D done just because I think they are so darn cool.

Tracy: I'm jealous you are getting to feel your baby move. lol I know it gets closer each week for me... but I can't wait to feel my baby squirming around in there!

Hiya Everyone!

Lauren: Now you can start decorating fun fun fun!!!!! As far as the size of a newborn head... my girls were both 8 pounds some-odd ounces, Erin's head measured 34.5cm and Maggie's was a little smaller (she is more petite). So I would think that size would be on the LARGER end and smaller for the 6 and 7 pound babies. Gymborees newborn hats always ran big on my girls, they would finally fit correctly around 3 months.

Tracy: That is MEAN of your neighbor!! LOL if its one thing a pregnant women doesn't need help with its her IMAGINATION... I still can't believe the military won't do a 20 wk sono - crazy, that is when you can pick up a lot of the abnormalities etc... Wonder why they won't do them? Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen, since I thought the were suppose to give the same quality care that civilians receive!! Crazy... luckily I did not have to live the military life very long since my dh's time was just about up when we married, I don't think I would have conformed very well LOL.

Trolly: LOL I felt like that almost everyday from week 3 to week 9... and sometimes I still wake up tired. I also felt like I had gained 20# in the past four weeks b/c of this carbfest I have been on (the only thing that I can actually swallow), but I found at my 2nd midwife appt yesterday I had only gained 2 lbs (still too much to me, but I know its water weight)!!! The nurse also said just eat whatever you can during the first trimester b/c its better than nothing. You can always get it back under control once you feel better.... or in my case get my appetite back. One thing I have done is tried to just buy whole-grained pastas, cereals and breads, eat fiberous fruits, limit sugar intake/substitute with splenda. Snacks I try to eat yogurt, cheese, fruit, etc... however that occasional cream cheese muffin gets slipped in or peach cobbler (my downfall right now) BUT I am TRYING LOL So I say - don't stress out about it, its worse than gaining the weight!!

Check back later!!!

Angel- I know what you mean about being tired. I thought it got better in the 2nd trimester I wake up tired and am tired ALL day long. I think the cheese, yogurt and raw veggies are a great idea when it's hard to keep anything else down. I also like green grapes and cantelope mixed with nonfat plain yogurt. Great calcium! (that's what I should have had last night at 11:00 instead of a sloppy joe in bed) lol. Cravings are powerful!

As for the military care- for the most part they are pretty good about covering all bases. I don't understand why they wouldn't take all precautions against having a baby born with something wrong they could have detected. The triple screen was normal, so they are through with testing for abnormalities

My daughter was born anemic and had to have a blood transfusion. I read that women can develop low iron toward the end of the pregnancy and not know it. We still don't know what happened with her or how to prevent it again.

Hey Mrs. Sarah!! That's such good news!! I would have mr DR do a blood test today!! They would be able to tell for sure. I wouldn't wait any longer!

Tracy: That is scary about your first little girl!! Nothing worse than having a baby you have waited for for 9+ months and having to hand it over to the NICU!! My first dd was in the NICU for 5 days and it was traumatic leaving her there and going home without her. As far as the iron, a lot of women develop iron deficiencies during the latter part of pregnancy, my drs office checks my iron levels several times during that time - did they not do that with you? If not, just make sure to eat lots of meat/protein during that stage. Strange that they couldn't offer you more info! It will go better this time around!

Oh and THOSE cravings are awful!!! I just HAD to have Chinese last weekend .... and I am not a BIG fan of Chinese food ~ weird. Sigh, and not the best in low carb. I have also had this thing with soup, why in the WORLD would ANYONE crave soup!!??!! I never really had cravings with my previous pregnancies.... well ok, I did HAVE to HAVE ribeye steaks once a week with my first (that got a little expensive LOL), but other than that, this is a new thing for me! LOL

Morning everyone!!

Sarah! WooHoo--no TOM yet!!! I don't see how you function at work. That would be ALL I could think about!!!

Trisha- I think the weight fluctuation is normal. I wouldn't worry about it all. My weight can vary 5 pounds in one day due to water, etc.

Sorry I can't respond to everyone....I was just on Old Navy's site. They are having a great clearance on baby clothes. They have some really cute things!! I ordered a coat for this little girl too--I hope she can wear it next winter--if not I guess I'll be e-baying it but it was 1/2 off and very cute! I got 6-12 months..she'll be 9 mos at xmas so I am hoping that will work!
Check out the sales!!!!!!!!!!

Angela,

they didn't check me during the last trimester for an iron deficiency. In fact, she was born emergency c-section for fetal distress and they thought nothing else of it. She went to the nursery for testing and 3 days later, as I was going home, they stopped me and told me her hematocrit, which was supposed to be between 50-60 was 18. She was 24-48 hours away from a massive heart attack because of the strain it was putting on her heart.

Someone didn't bother to check to the blood work after it had been done The pediatrician that was on call happened to catch it, on her way out the door

She was taken by infant transport 15 miles away for a transfusion. I would have thought if I was anemic, it would make my count low, not hers
I will make sure they check this time. I am not really a big meat eater either.

Sarah- how many days are you late now?????? When was the last HPT?

Laura: I will have to check out Old Navy. I have also been getting a LOT of great deals on spring/summer clothes right now for the girls on EBay all namebrand/boutique!!! I will also have to check out BabyGap, they usually have good deals during sales.

Tracy: I am so sorry you had to go through that with your little girl. Boy I am glad that they finally DID catch it before you left the hospital!!! That is one of my worse fears, that SOMETHING will be overlooked! Scary Scary stuff... a get a little paranoid when pregnant I know you and your dh were hopping mad at the hospital staff!!! I would have been, between crying hysterically LOL I will say a little prayer that things will go more smoothly for you and your family this time

Sarah: I just couldn't wait if I were you..... LOL.... go bang down their door!!!

Thanks Angel (for the prayers) it is very very scary when something like that goes wrong. I was single at the time and very scared. They shaved a bunch of her black silky hair to try to put in an IV, I counted 10 places where they tried and failed It was so sad!

You said your little boy stayed in NICU 5 days? What happened?

Hey- how is Heidi doing? She was sick last time I was on.

Ok... well if the doc won't do a blood test till next week I certainly think you should try another home test! Its been 2 or 3 days hasn't it? And those hormone levels are supposed to double every other day or something like that I think.

Tracy it is very scary when things you never think about go wrong. You always think - I will go to the hospital, stay a couple of days, and go home with baby... its heartbreaking when it doesn't go like that. You probably look at that little girl everyday now and think "what a wonderful miracle". It was my oldest daughter, Erin, that was in the NICU. My bp shot up and my water broke a month prematurely. Even though she weighed 8lbs6oz (they considered her premature, LOL) her lungs were not completely mature and she could not get all the fluid out and infection set in. After having her I kept her in the room with me, then she started wheezing and not eating... the last nurse came in, didn't really say anything except she was taking her to the nursery and then we got a call from the NICU (which is in the hospital) saying they weren't sure WHAT was the problem with her but she was having problems breathing and they had to put her on a ventilator and feeding tube. Luckily they caught it soon enough AND treated it quickly - stressful. I remember practically living in the NICU until they released her, and then we had nurses come by the house for a week after that to give her shots (morning and night) and to monitor her. I always count my blessings that it wasn't something worse than an infection.... that was scary enough. Its awful to see your newborn hooked up to all of those machines!!

They great thing is ~ my 2nd baby, Maggie, was PERFECT. I had anxiety that the same things would go wrong, but they didn't. I think I can relax a little more with this one. Every delivery/pregnancy is different...

Hi Katie!!

My weight fluctuates and varys by about 3 pounds a day as well, but I take that into consideration when I mean I'm back down. I am down a couple pounds past the low end of what I have been fluctuating the past month or so...
I don't think it probably matters too much either though seeing as how I'm still at the begining of my pregnancy. Despite the loss I can still tell my belly is bigger (even though nobody else can)!
