Okay, what type of bc does everyone use/recommend?
I don't want to be on anything hormonal because it slow's loss and such. Condoms aren't a real good solution for me since my bf and I both hate them. (we have been living together for a year now, std is not an issue). I've been told diaphrams and curvical cups aren't very reliable after you've had children. I asked bf about iud today since I don't know much about it. He said it has a high failure rate and causes miscarrages! Not sure if that's true but figured I'd ask people here what they recommend. Thanks!

IUDs have changed a lot in the past few decades.
I recommend you talk to your doctor about them (I'm assuming your bf isn't one.) |

I was on bcp's and lost 3.5 lbs the first month on this woe, so I stopped them for 2 months, lost 30ish pounds and then just this week I got an IUD. This one is good for 10 years and I am thrilled that my weight loss will not longer be affected by the pill and that I no longer have to take the pill!!

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen and suffering 3 or 4 pounds of water weight gain every month. Now I'm taking Yasmin--which has a mild diurectic component due to a spironolactone-like effect--problem solved!

If you don't want anything hormonal, chech that an IUD that you pick doesn't have a slow release hormone in it. There are some out there that do.
I take min-ovral 28 pills and have had no problems losing. They have a lower dose of hormones than regular dosed pills. |

You may be interested in this article I ran across the other day:
http://www.womensenews.com/article.c...ontext/archive Run Date: 01/08/04 By Kathleen Nelson WeNews correspondent A woman's weight can affect her birth-control options. Weight is being studied as a factor in the reliability of birth-control pills, while women over 198 pounds face higher failure rates with the contraceptive patch. (WOMENSENEWS)--Most contraceptive failures are chalked up to inconsistent or incorrect use. However, not much is known about the characteristics of women for whom contraceptives fail. Recently, medical researchers have begun to probe whether a woman's weight can be a factor in the reliability of her birth-control method. More than 10 million women in the United States use oral contraceptives, making them the most common reversible method of birth control. Although these pills are popular, reliable and well tested, they are not infallible. About half a million women using the pill become pregnant each year. Researchers have found that body weight may affect metabolism sufficiently to compromise contraceptive effectiveness. Victoria Holt, an epidemiologist at the University of Washington, categorized women who filled out a health survey into four groups by weight. Women in the highest body weight category--above 155 pounds--had a 60-percent increased risk of oral contraceptive failure compared with all women of lower weight, according to Holt's 2002 study published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.
