Good morning gals!! Last night I was absolutely useless!! Mac had a dental appt. at 5:30pm, and after that we went home and ate a quick dinner. Dean got her in the tub, and I took a shower and a nice long bubble bath. I read the Girlfriend's Guide in the tub...I just love that book! By the time I got out I was sleepy and we got right to bed around 8:30pm. Usually Dean is a night owl and stays up later than me, but last night he was right there with me, lol!

Good Morning, Ladies,

I woke up this morning with a horrible cold - achey head, sore throat, plugged ears, cough, tender glands, basically the works. Can anyone tell me if there's any over the counter medicine (cold medicine, cough drops, etc.) or natural remedies that are safe to use during the first trimester? I'm planning on calling my doctor but he doesn't have hours until 9:30 on Tuesdays. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

PFgal - I had one of those useless nights last night too. I think you need to have one every once in a while!

Well, I hope everyone has a great day. I'll check back later.

Sunnie

Hello everyone!

Today is starting off to be a great and glorious day!

Even though it is cold as heck out side. We had our first snow yesterday. It was crazy because just Saturday we had 70 degree weather.

Oh well....Lauren- glad you got some rest your body must have needed it. I was in the bed by 8:30 myself. But then again that is nothing new for me.

Well off to get some work done!

Take care ladies!

Sunny I believe you can take Robitussin. Also try some good old fashion Chicken Noodle soup

I hope you feel better

SunnieGirl, If you have a fever, Tylenol is OK. I did hear Robitussin is OK as well, but there were mixed opinions about regular Robitussin or Robitussin DM. Sudafed for congestion is fine. I hope you feel better!

After jumping from induction to maintenance, I gained a few pounds (water weight), but today, I lost a few. But my pants have been tight. Where am I losing weight from?

Cynicalcyn, it looks like you got our weather! It usually hits Ohio a day later. We also had a 60+ degree weekend, and yesterday, the wind chill hit 7! We also had flurries but it didnt' stuck too much. It's typical in Chicago though. We will be moving to Ohio, around Toledo where BF's family is. I haven't told work yet.

I really lost motivation to work. There's been too much cost cutting initiatives. We had a mini layoff last week and lost one of our guys. They won't be replacing him, and I am very pi$$ed off. We were short-handed before. Now, we get to take on more responsibilities! I can't wait until I tell them to shove it!

Well, back to work. Have a great day!

Here's the question of the day. Would you rather find out the sex of your baby ASAP or keep it a surprise?

Find out ASAP!!!!!!!

With my daughter I was DYING to know but they couldn't tell in either of the 2 sonograms.

With this baby I want to know and Dean has mixed emotions. For a while he was 100% against finding out, but I think has since changed his mind. We're going to find out - I should get my 20 week sonogram in mid-January!

Hi all,
I haven't have much time to come here lately. But i am still doing good. I had my 1st gyn/obs. appt... it went really well, i could hear the heartbeat... That was awesome!! She said that my uterus was very large, thought i was maybe 13 or 14 weeks instead of 12.... or i was carrying twins.... So i booked an u/s for the next day to find out there was only one (thank God) and i was at 12 weeks. So i just have a lot of amniotic fluid...

I could see the little one.... what a cutie. Looks like her mom...hehehe I can'T wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl.... (to answer the question of the day!!)

I had my interview yesterday. it went good, but wasn't super. My supervisor told me it would be an informal interview, her and me... turned out to be herslef with another supervisor and the REAL interview, with the writing part I wasn't prepared for that but we shall see.... I think it was ok. I'll keep yall posted!!

Morning everyone!!

My answer to the QOD is ASAP!!!! I actually hope to find out Monday FINALLY!! I'll be 23 weeks and have been waiting forever for this ultrasound.

Sunny: All I know we can take is Tylenol...granted, thankfully I haven't been sick enough to ask my doc. He did mention that I should not take Sudafed BUT I don't know why bc everyone else I know was able to take it Something about causing uterus to contract--I dunno. He suggested saline spray for stuffy nose (which is worthless to me).

Speaking of weather--it is starting to be really chilly here in the mornings especially--What are you ladies doing for coats??? I hate to spend alot on something I don't plan on wearing again...but I want something I feel good in too.

Lauren: I love "useless" nights....I took a long warm bubble bath too.

I went to the chiropractor yesterday. I have a pinched nerve in my back and boy it hurts....I am going again tomorrow. I don't want to be miserable over the holiday.

I am off work tomorrow through the weekend so if I don't post--I'l be lurking.....I hope everyone has a great T-giving!!

Take Care-
Laura

Good Morning everyone.

I had a few colds over the course of this pregnancy. I did not take any medications, but what worked for me was LOTS of sleep, extra, extra fluids (chicken broth, lots of tea, hot apple cider) and running a humidifier. Also I would take lots of hot baths. It was hard to get through, but I got better. Kindove made me realize that I do not need to take medications when I am sick. Though they make it easier because they help mask your symptoms.

I want to know the sex, 100%, but the only ultrasound I had they were not sure....so I am up in the air.

My work decided to throw me an impromptu shower today. So we are having a big feast at lunch today. Probably not good for my weight gain. I have my next Prenatal apt on Friday with today's feast and Thanksgiving in between I am not looking forward to that scale!

Oh well.....I am in a good mood today regardless...hope everyone has a great day!

MISBADU - How sweet of your work!! I hope you guys have a blast at lunch, it sounds great!!!! I'm with you on the medication thing, I've felt funky a few times but have resisted the meds. If it got super bad I'd probably take something, though, b/c I can't afford to be totally out of commission with a 4 y.o. to take care of! So far so good, though!

SUNNIE - My midwife gave me the name of a homeopathic medicine for cold and flu that's great. She said it was totally safe. It's called Oscillococcinum. It really helped, and I didn't feel any of the side effects like I do with regular meds. Even Hank tried it and liked it. Here's what it looks like...

It helps take care of your symptoms... It doesn't just mask them. Also, just make sure to get plenty of warm fluids.

LAUREN - Useless days are good! Take advantage of them if you can!

CYNTHIA - I totally understand about the weather. I live in TX, where the old saying goes, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute... It'll change." So true.

KATIE - The job market totally sucks... I was really lucky that when Hank was transferred here to Dallas, my company was able to move me here too!

GEN - Good luck!!!!!

LAURA - Most docs do say it's okay to take Sudafed, but I refuse to, because it has psuedoephedrine in it, which is a cousin of speed, and they use it to make Meth. Can't be good, IMHO. (BTW - If you ever see someone buying two or three packages of the stuff, they probably don't have a really bad cold. LOL!)

MISBADU - That's so cool of your work to do!!!

I finally went through the rest of Hank's neice's clothes, and I'm a little disappointed that her jeans don't fit. They're so cute. Really, if I could just lose thismuch off of my thighs, they'd fit. Heck, I'm just thrilled that her clothes fit me. I always thought she was smaller, but she did gain quite a bit with this last pregnancy.

Oh, have any of you ever seen the Friends episode where Chandler and Monica get married? You know when Chandler is trying to dance with Monica, and his shoes are too new and slippery? I had that problem today. Our office is carpeted, so it's cool here, but I almost busted my butt BIG TIME in our bathroom and kitchen. I may see if I can scuff up the bottom a little.

QUESTION...

I started FitDay'ing again today so that I can get some sort of handle on what I'm taking in per day. I'm not eating terribly, but low-carb is a diet that I Just cannot follow at this point.

What is so bad about diet soda, anyway? I usually drink diet, but have been drinking 1 or 2 regular sodas per day. Regular sodas are a good way to really pack in the carbs..in a BAD SENSE! I am trying to drink more water but do find it challenging, especially in the colder weather. I haven't eaten super bad today, but am at 124 carbs already (after counting my lunch), which is high!!

Mainly because of artificial sweetners and caffeine. Of course, Splenda-based Diet Rite, which is also caffeine-free, is OK. It's also because it's practically all chemical.

As for caffeine, I read that 1-2 cups of coffee per day isn't harmful. Diet sodas contain far less than coffee, so I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I drink Diet Rite occasionally. I like the fizz. I also drink club sodas. Moderation is key...

The only thing that I would find bad about sodas (and this is only too much) is the caffeine and the Aspartame. Now, most people say that you can have a cup or two of coffee (I don't know how much caffeine is in a soda) a day and be fine, and the jury is still out on artificial sweeteners. I will have a small cup of coffee every once and a while, especially when I can't "go", and I put a little bit of Splenda in it. For the most part though, I eat more whole foods. I try to stick with foods that are the least processed. I just feel it's better for me and my baby.

Although, my midwife seems to be more concerned with artificial sweeteners than she is caffeine. I'll ask her why...

Also, I would stress that if you are drinking caffeine that you UP your water. I try to get at least three liters in a day, if not four. I just want to make sure that my baby is hydrated. The more water you drink, the better condition the amniotic fluid is in.

I had a friend who just WOULD NOT drink water. I even tried to get her to drink kool-aid, and she drank some, but she was so hooked on freakin' sodas, that her little baby came early. Water, protein and salt are the most important things you HAVE to provide for your body during pregnancy. Of course, not too much salt, but you know...

Hello Ladies,

Wow! Lots of reading to catch up on

Answer to the question... I can't wait to find out! I'll find out as soon as they can tell me (and if they can!). My cousin who is an ultrasound tech and 20 weeks pregnant herself, said to drink part of a Mt. Dew before I go in for my ultrasound so the baby is moving! lol

I had my 1st OB appointment today, but only met with the nurse. She was very nice. We just went through my medical and family history. Then she went through the basics of what would happen over the next few months. I also got to pee in a cup and got stuck in the arm. My DH skipped his first class to come with me. I think he was kinda bored, but he said it was fine!

I have my 2nd appointment next Thursday. I'll meet with the doctor then and she will do a pap and also an ultrasound to determine a due date. I'm very excited about the ultrasound! I can't wait to see the baby!

Ok... I'm going to get back to work, think happy thoughts, and pray for no more nausea and heartburn today!

OH... About finding out... I do. I still need to schedule my U/S though... I'm only getting one, and I want to make sure they can find out. I'm going to bring a videotape again so I can tape my little critter! That's why I might wait another few weeks or so.

No caffiene for me - I haven't touched it since I found out I was pregnant, so no worries there! I'm definitely curious as to why artificial sweeteners are so horrid, though!

There's a big debate about aspartame... Some research has shown that when it's heated to above room temp. (like in the trucks) it actually releases formaldahyde. (I'll have to recheck my source, but I do believe that's it.)

EEwww, funky! I am not a big drinker anyway, but in general I used to drink 1 or 2 sodas per day. Now I have things like ginger ale or orange soda. Water is better in general, but I have a hard time drinking water with meals. I need some flavA!! LOL!
