Hi ladies! Thank you all for the birthday wishes. It was a nice day. I went to dinner with DD and DH to Islands. Not the best choice but I was craving the spicy chicken soft taco's in a big way. DH is taking me out again on Saturday night but I don't know what he has planned yet. Probably just dinner and a movie since we NEVER go out anymore. It'll be nice to go on a "date" again. My mom and sister are taking me out on Sunday so this is like a week long b-day for me. DH got me a really pretty silver, velvet lined, heart-shaped box with "Children Are Treasures Of The Heart" engraved on it and inside was a mother's necklace with a little birthstone girl for Kayla and a little birthstone boy for the new baby. This has to be one of the most special gifts he's given me because I know it came from his heart. Oh and I got some midnight nookie too.

Jennifer - Your belly is so cute! You look wonderful, even with black holes for eyes! LOL. Great picture!!

Sinnrah - Girl, I'm jealous. You look right where you should be for a first baby though but that's how I looked at 117 when I wasn't pregnant! I wish I could get that skinny again but I'll settle for 125. Great picture ... where's your face??

Kitimat2000 - Welcome! We're very close in due dates!

Lauren - We've ya been? The boards are slow without you! We miss you.

Sylv - I sure hope you're holding your sweet little one right now!!

Is anyone swelling? I swear that my face is like a marshmellow. I have no neck!! Okay, I'm exaggerating a little but still ... it's not pretty. This happened with DD too and I was just told it was "pregnancy induced edema". Great. Any ideas on how to get rid of it aside from having the baby?

Gotta get to work ... I'll check back later. Have a great day!

Good morning, gals!!!!! I'm sorry I've been MIA this week - and I really even haven't gotten to read much ! Today won't be any better, as there's a meeting all day, then a potluck luncheon, then a surprise baby shower for a coworker due 12/31. I'll get on later this afternoon/tonight, though, and post! This week hasn't been that busy at work, but I haven't been in my office a whole lot. And at home they've been finishing work on our screened porch and deck, so that keeps my evenings busy. This time change is still kicking my hide...it's dark SOOOOOO early and makes me get tired fast! The only reason I'm up this early is to finish my dish for the stankin' potluck!

We had a good Halloween and Mackenzie won best kiddie costume at our neighborhood party - she was the cutest little poodle!!!

That's all for now I suppose. I'm still at a 4-5 pound total gain depending on the day, and I'm eating whatever carbs I want right now. I'm still very finicky, so eating a low-carb diet would make me crazy right now. I'm not eating a ton or binging, though, so even though I'm eating carbs my total caloric intake isn't excessive - maybe that's what's saving my weight gain status at this point, lol!

I'll be back later today - miss you crazy gals!!!!!!

Neato Dorito!

Did ya'll see the new little spot for 'stats' under our avatars. I like it!! Although, I put an asterisk by my current weight and explained it in my signature...if I don't it'll look like I've made NO progress . I was within my goal range of 140-145 when this pregnancy bit started...now I'm creeping up and out!

Morning everyone!!

I took the day off from work yesterday so never made it on the boards. I laid on the couch all day! It was great!

When is it really important to be sleeping on my left side...I am a stomach sleeper but since I got my body pillow, I have started sleeping on my right side--I can't get to sleep/or comfortable on my left....Does it really matter???

Heidi: Looks like you had a wonderful b'day!! I am glad. I am not as far as you so the only swelling I have right now is my hands---I have increased my water the last few days and that has helped. Hope you find some relief!

Lauren: Sounds like you are busy--glad you checked in! Your daughter is so cute!

Jenn: Cute belly pic!!!!

Sarah: Get busy *******sending lots of babydust*****

Sylv: Can't wait to hear that baby has been born!!! Eagerly awaiting!

Gen: I have never smoked so can't be much help with the stopping. I remember when my mom stopped though--it seems like it is really tough. Good Luck!

Tracy: As far as acne, I was getting bad breakouts on my chin but that is it--they have actually gotten better since I hit 2nd tri.....all I know to do is to clean your face really good daily--hopefully it will get better as you progress.

Sinnrah: Cute belly! You are such a tiny girl........I envy you at 117!!! You are going to pop one day and have this round little belly--cute!

Hi Stacy, Sara, Misbadu !!! and Welcome KitiMat !!
and hi to anyone I missed!!

Laura

Good Morning Ladies!

Hope everyone is doing well today. I am hanging in there. Feeling better today than I have lately. I actually got a good nights sleep for once. I did wake up 3 times to pee, but basically slept well other than that. Thank GOD! The hardest thing for me has been the lack of sleep, and I know that is only going to get worse when the baby is born so I am not very pleased about that. Having lots of pillows does help. Now I sleep wedged between two pillows. One wedged under my belly and another against my back, it seems to support me more. I have to re-adjust constantly because I toss and turn a lot, but still it helps.

Heidi - Water retention (swelling), My midwife tells me if you are swelling to drink lots more water. Some swelling is going to stay just due to all the extra fluids in our system, but drinking more water will help your body flush the excess fluid. I too have some swelling but only in my feet and ankles. I try to drink a TON of water though. Which makes me go to the bathroom way too often, but it has really helped me keep my swelling down, plus just makes me feel better. Just typing this reminds me I need to get going, I have been slacking this morning so far.

Well I suppose I should get some work done. I will check back in later this afternoon!

Lauren - Mac looks adorable! It's no wonder she won ... what a cutie!

Laura - Good for you for lounging around all day. I'd love to do that! As far as sleeping on the left, I have no idea. I'm more comfortable on the right and I keep finding myself waking up on my back, which I know can't be good. How do we keep ourselves from rolling over? I guess extra pillows, huh?

Misbadu - Glad you're feeling better today. Thanks for the water tips. I was really swollen with Kayla. My feet were awful! I had to buy bigger shoes and even those left indents. I'll try up'ing my water and see if that helps. I need to anyway, I've been bad about that.

Morning everyone else. I'm off to sleep now. Hope you all have a great day!

Start Date: Who the heck knows...
SINNRAH - Your tummy pic is so great! You'll pop out before you know it, but since this is your first, it might not be for a little while.

TRACY - This is my second, and during my first pregnancy I didn't show for quite some time. No maternity clothes until the 6th month, or so. Actually, I wasn't showing with this one until a few days ago. Then this kid just hit a growth spurt! Thank you for calling me skinny minny though...

SARAH - Sending lots of fertile vibes your way.

HEIDI - About your edema... My midwife has said to drink lots of water, but she's also put me on Dandelion Root. (Or you can drink Dandelion Leaf tea, but I can't find it, and it's just as easy to take a capsule.) It's helped with my swelling, and I can tell a difference when I forget to take it.

Plus for me, I think that wheat doesn't agree with me. Oats I can eat. Wheat bloats me, makes me retain tons of water, etc... BLECH...

Oh, I forgot to comment on this... I can't believe how many people think they have the right to make rude comments when you're pregnant. I remember the one that made me sooooo mad... "Wow! You're at that stage where you just wake up bigger, aren't ya?" I might have flown off the handle then... *whistles non-chalently* LOL! Luckily, most people have been really nice to me about it... Well, Devon (DSS) told me I was getting bigger, but we had a talk with him not to say that stuff to a pregnant woman. (I understand he's a kid, and doesn't know any better) We told him that he wouldn't know if I would fly off the handle or cry or what... He learned about pregnancy hormones that day.

LAUREN - Must really suck being so busy right now, but we understand... Mackenzie looks adorable. (I love the name too... It's my daughter's middle name! )

I really need to finish out the roll of film where we took pics of Allison and Devon before their Halloween Party.

MISBADU - Cherish those nights of sleep. I think us not being able to sleep during pregnancy is God's way of preparing us for a new baby. We don't sleep then, either... LOL

LAURA - I've heard that sleeping on your left side is better for blood flow, but I know what you mean... I'm SOOO much more comfortable on my right side most nights.

Shoot, did I forget to wish you happy birthday Heidi? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! They're supposed to last a full week anyway in my book.

RE swelling, my feet ballooned up a couple of times this summer when it was really hot but it would go away. Now I've been swollen for the past month or so and it only subsides a bit overnight. By the end of the day, my ankles look like Bam-Bam's. I try to drink a lot and also to put my feet up, but it hasn't helped much. My midwife said it's to be expected at the end of a pregnancy, as long as it isn't accompanied by high blood pressure. Oh, and my hands also swell up to the point where I can't make a fist. Coupled with the carpal tunnel, it don't feel good! OK, enough complaining.

Lauren, Mac makes an adorable poodle!

Laura, I too seem to favor my right side for some reason. They say your left side is best for circulation I think, but I wouldn't worry about it. I used to wake up sleeping on my back out of habit at the beginning but it soon became uncomfortable because of the baby's weight. (Now, just rolling over is difficult!)

Well, my appointment with my midwife went well yesterday. She did an internal exam for the first time and I was 1 cm dilated, 75% effaced. She was able to strip my membranes a little near the cervix, which wasn't the most comfortable procedure, but it did trigger some extra contractions for the rest of the day, plus a little bit of mucous plug. Progress, eureka! All's quiet on the Western front now, but I picked up some evening primrose oil which apparently helps to rippen the cervix. So does sex from what I'm told, but Brian feels a little unsure about that at this stage.

Anyway, we're definitely getting excited that the time is getting very near!

Sylvie

Thank for al the compliments ladies. It is so weird..when I lay on my back you can see the roundness of my belly but when I stand up it is gone. You can see some growth compared to my other belly shots..but I always had a little pooch..and now it sticks out more than it used too.

PfGal-I am eating just like you are...whatever carbs I want..but I dont really binge too much. I find that if I eat when I am hungry that really helps w/ the overeating.

Heidi-glad you had a good birthday. I am going to settle for after pregnancy weight of like 115 or so. LOL And if I can get lower then great..but if not...beggers cants be choosers I guess.

Jen-I like your belly pictures better. LOL

MsBadu-glad you are feeling better too..

Looper-sounds like you had a relaxing day....on the couch all day huh? sounds really nice

Well I have nothing special planned other than still trying to get that two mile walk in. LOL But DH is suppose to go w/ me. We will see how that works. LOL

Take Care

Old Wives Tales

I thought this would be fun to post...

Is it a boy or a girl?

1. If you're carrying high it's a boy and low, it's a girl.

2. If you're carrying in front, it's a boy and wide, it's a girl.

3. If you crave sweets, you'll have a girl.

4. If you crave meats or cheeses, you'll have a boy.

5. If you get red highlights in your hair, you'll have a girl.

6. If your belly gets hairy, you'll have a boy.

7. Dark nipples mean you're having a boy.

8. If you have morning sickness early in pregnancy, it's sure to be a girl.

9. If you look a little "rough around the edges," it must be a girl because girls steal their mother's looks.

10 . If your skin breaks out, you're sure to have a girl.

11 . If your right breast is bigger, it will be a boy. If your left breast is larger, it will be a girl.

12. If your hands are dry and chapped, it will be a boy.

13. If your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy, you're having a girl.

14. Suspend a needle from some thread and have someone hold it one inch above your hand. If the needle swings back and fort, a girl is in your future. If it moves in a circle, you can count on a boy.

15. Hang your wedding ring from a strand of the father's hair over your belly. If the ring moves side to side, it'll be a girl. If it swings, it will be a boy. Also, be sure to count the rotations that the ring makes to find out how many children you'll carry in your lifetime.

Morning mommies!

Sylv - I'm extremely jealous and yet not envying you at the same time! It's gotta be exciting knowing that your delivery is right around the corner, but the waiting must be frustrating! Can't wait to hear that you've done it!

My complexion the past couple months has brought me back to my teenage years. My forehead is absolutely terrible, but other than a daily cleanser I haven't done anything about it... just figure I can cover it with bangs.

I'm also having trouble sleeping on my left side, and just sleeping in general. Between my kitties that are always ready for breakfast and my bladder, I rarely get more than 3 hours of straight sleep. I also figure I better get used to it.

Regarding those old wives tales that Sinnrah posted, a LOT of them come out true for me, which is just further convincing me that I'm having a boy AND a girl! Tomorrow morning I have my ultrasound and will finally know once and for all whether I'm carrying one or two. I cannot wait!!! I'll keep you posted.

Christie

Good morning all!
wow it's a beautiful chilly fall day here today! Speaking about getting large my belly is getting so big I burnt it on a cookie sheet coming out of the oven last night!! I can't believe how much bigger I am from my first baby, I wonder if it has anything to do with that I'm having a girl. Hey can you guys in the States find out what your having when you go to your ultra sounds? I had to drive to a different city to find out. We have a large population of a certain ethnic group out here that will abort if they find out it's a girl so you have to go elsewhere to find out.
Hedi I have that swelling problem too but I still try to go for a walk by the river every other day. I'm trying to combat my 10lbs a month weight gain that i've been experiencing lately. Damn chocolate!
HAve a great day all

Just thought I would pop in and say hi to Christy! I posted to you on yesterdays thread, but I don't think you made it in there yesterday.

Based on those old wives tales I must be having both a boy and a girl too, because some on each side apply. Mostly points to girl though. Oh well have to wait and see.

Good afternoon everyone!

Just got back from my 36 week appointment. This starts the first of my weekly appts....before was every 2. Everything was good...blood pressure, urine, babys heart beat. When the doctor felt my abdomen she noticed that the baby's head is really low. This kid has been head down for many weeks so I wasn't surprised that it is head down, but she said really low. And then when she did the vaginal swab for the Group B strep she said the head was so low she could feel it with the swab. So the internal exam comes and she says my cervix is really thin and I am dilated to 1 cm. So based on the degree of thinning of the cervix and how low the head is she said I will probably have an early delivery. Now, how early no one can say, but going until Dec 2 or beyond is highly unlikely. Guess I should get myself going and get those last few things done that I need to take care of! Oh, and maybe we should decide on some names. That way I'll be prepared no matter when this baby makes an appearance!

Heidi- Sounds like you had a great birthday with more to come this weekend! Sorry I can't help with the swelling problem. I haven't experienced any of that (yet).

Kitimat2000 - Welcome to the group!

Lauren- Your daughter looks so cute in her costume! No wonder she won.

Laura- I think sleeping on either side is preferable to sleeping on the back. I flip from side to side during the night, probably spending equal time on both sides. I cannot wait to be able to sleep on my back or stomach again!

Slyv- Sounds like there's progress! You guys must be getting so excited.

Sinnrah- I'm about half and half on those old wives tales, so they didn't help me out any. I know there's only one baby in there but can't determine from the list boy or girl.

Christie- Good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow!

Hello to all the other ladies I missed. Hope everyone has a good day.

Niccole

Hey Misbadu... I did see your reply yesterday, thank you. Very cool that we're relatively close neighbors, started Atkins on the same day, and now both doing the pregnancy thing at the same time! You're way ahead of me though. We'll have to get together for a *medium*-carb lunch one of these days and share stories!

Jefinner, I can't avoid it sometimes. I've removed more than a couple heads from people in the last few months!

Niccole, sounds like you might beat Sylv! I can't wait till I'm that far along!

Kitimat, yeah, generally here they ask you before they start the ultrasound if you want to know the gender or not. Sometimes discovery can't be avoided even when you don't want to know, and other times you might WANT to know but the baby crosses its legs and refuses to cooperate.

Hi everyone,

I hope you all have a great day!! I sleep on my right side all the time. No matter what side i choose to fall asleep, i always land on my right side. For the swelling, i had my share while pregnant with Anthony. On the 1st of July, it was horribly hot and i was only 5 months far... Well i was so big it wasn't funny. And it went away 2 months after i delivered... But i had high blood pressure so was in hospital for 2 weeks before i gave birth, they were waiting until i got to 36 weeks... was induced and had a big premie baby (6,8lbs) Everuthing went bad, from the start with that pregnancy... Now everything seems to be normal, so far. i am only at week 9 or so and can't hardly wait to deliver. I hate beoing pregnant, i hate how bad i feel all the time, the lack of sleep, the getting bigger part, but can'T wait to see her little face... (it should be a girl, did Sinnrah 's tests... LOL)
