Hi girls!
I'm so exhausted. I had to work a split shift yesterday. I slept for 4 1/2 hours before going in for the afternoon shift, and then only slept 2 hours before going in last night. I'm not getting much sleep today either because I have my doctor appointment in the morning and then my daughter has a Halloweeen party in the afternoon. I wish I could have some coffee to help me. ![]() I'm dreading the doctor today. I have to do my glucose test but I think I can take it home and do it later in the day. There's a lab right by my house so I don't have to wait at the office. But, I'm really dreading the scale. Wednesday I ate a burrito and fries and a KrispyKreme doughnut. Yesterday I ate a little package of doughnuts (don't know why I'm on a doughnut kick lately) and a philly cheese steak sandwhich (which would have been fine if I just ate the inside and not the bread too). I don't know what's gotten into me! Lauren - Your belly is adorable! I seriously look like that NOT pregnant ... I think I said that about your last picture but this one is more accurate. You're lucky that you're so tan because it really hides the stretch marks well. I'm ghostly white so they're really visible on me. They're not red (well the ones on my upper thigh/hips are but not the ones on my belly - yet!) so I guess that's a plus. Can't wait to hit the tanning salons again! I need to go back and read through yesterday’s thread again. I’m having a brain fart. |

Morning Mommies-
Do you ever feel like being pregnant has taken over every aspect of your life? Its like every thing I think, feel, or do now is somehow touched by being pregnant. I was fantisizing last night about having a day off - just not thinking about it and going back to my selfish, wrapped up in my own stuff, life. I want to be pregnant, dont get me wrong, but I find it mind-blowing that so much of me is changing already. We could make a movie - "The baby that ate my life..." And yes I know, it only gets more intense from here... Anyhoo, those are my silly thoughts. Still eating badly and expecting to pay for it... Still nauseus, and still tired. Waiting for the mood swings... Although I can be such a B***h normally I'm not sure how anyone would notice! Happy Day All!

Sara - You're too funny. I'm the same way with the b*tch factor but believe me ... people notice!
I agree that being pregnant takes up every aspect of your life. I often fantasize about life before being pregnant and even before my daughter too but I wouldn't change it now for anything. There's nothing better than coming home from work with my daughters arms out, running up to me for a hug and saying "I love you Mommy". Makes everything worth it, ya know? But I hear ya ... I'd love to be selfish for at least just one day! I hope your nausea eases up soon.I don't know if this was mentioned yesterday or not (because I haven't gone back to look yet) but I remember a fundal height topic. They measure it laying down and as far as I can tell, it's from the pubic bone to the top of where it gets hard at the top of your belly. I always measure about a month ahead of schedule but my daughter was normal size (7 lbs 11oz ) and I expect this one to be somewhere in the lower 8 lb range. I just have a big uterus. I'm worried about Summer ... wasn't she in the hospital not too long ago? Last edited by Heidi-M : 10-24-2003 at 06:30 AM. |

Morning Mommies-
I have a question. How long should I keep tanning? I have been tanning for years and one of the girls that tans at the salon I use is 6 months pregnant and is a nurse. She said the rays only go skin deep and are harmless to the fetus Since I am only 6.5 weeks- can't I continue on until 6 months or so?Hope everyone is feeling well. Still holding my breath MS doesn't set in. I am loving how I feel right now, other than be very very tired at night, and none of my clothes fitting. I have moved on up to 12's from 8's and 10's to allow for a little more room. Will post a 7 wk belly pic next week that I took last night (prior stretch marks and all) Lauren, you won't be alone there! Hey, Sarah- have you tried the medication prescribed for nausia? I forgot the name now. Maybe it will help, your dr can tell you what it is. I heard it is a God send. And I love your post about feeling that your whole life has been taken over by this little being. Is there a single thought throughout the day that does not involve being pg? And Heidi- remember (YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR OWN RIGHT NOW) you have no control over what you crave. It's only 9 short months of your life- afterward, it's back to getting into shape. For now, eat what ya want within reason Noone is going to tell a pregnant women she can't have a donought or even worse, that she is fat! At least not if they value their life! |

Heidi - eat what works for you. You have a small allowance for extra calories and if a donut fits the bill so be it! I cant wait for the "I love you Mommy" part. That must be so cool.
Tracy- nowhere in all the reading I have done does it say that tanning is a no no. I think alot of the prohibitions are conserned about risk for infection, chemical exposure or overheating - tanning dosent do any of that. If it makes you feel good why not? I'm using seabands for the nausea - I dont throw-up just a general queasiness that sometimes is worse that others. I think overall it is improving, just last night I didnt get up to pee so I didnt eat the snack that I had put out. Eating every few hours helps a ton. I actually woke up but I'd heard the cat puking somewhere and I didnt want to get up and step in it, so I went back to sleep! How lazy is that! ![]() |

Sara: No I feel like nursing school has taken over my life! I seriously forget I'm pregnant a lot of the time (except now it's getting obvious and I feel the baby move) so that is a little distraction. But if I weren't in such a demanding program, I would probably feel that way. I felt a little bit like that with my first daughter but I was in school then too so I was really busy.
Tracey: Well 11 yrs ago I was pregnant with my daughter and bought one of those tanning memberships and I continued to go once or twice a week through the fifth month. But then I quit when they started looking at my stomach funny when I came in. Didn't seem to hurt my daughter although she is super olive skinned (her dad is Mexican) but they are nearly the same color, she didn't get much lighter! Coincidence, lol? One thing I did notice was that lying in there the heat got the colostrum flowing around the 4th or 5th month and I used to drip when I was in there. Tigerlily

Just got back from the doctor, showed him the ultrasound pic, he said BOY, then wheeled over the office ultrasound and took a look and we saw immistakably scrotum and penis from several views.
Guess I have to get used to saying "my son" after 11 years as a girl-only mom. I am SO EXCITED. eeeeeeeeeee. Tigerlily |

DAMMIT!!!! I just lost my post...
Yep… Hank and I are married… Everything went SOOO well! It was small, a little corny, very emotional, and so perfect for us. We were the only two there, besides the reverend and the church wedding coordinator, and that's the way I've always wanted it. I would've had the kids there, but if we couldn't get Devon, then I didn't want to bring Allison either. I know he feels left out enough as it is. We do have pictures, but they still need to be developed... I'll do that this weekend. The whole day was kind of cool... We met the coordinator at 10:30, did paperwork, paid them... Looked at the chapel, and it was so small, cozy and pretty. Afterwards, we ate brunch at this little Brazilian cafe... YUMMY!!! After that we headed home, and Hank tells me that he needed to run an errand. "For what?", I asked. "I can't tell you!" He replied. He came home with the prettiest bridal bouquet with white roses and lilies. I try to fix my hair, but I swear, I look like the Texas version of Marilyn Monroe. BIG HAIR!!! I tamed it some, and that turned out okay. Then we headed to the church, and I mentioned that we needed to take our rings off. He said that he would, but that I didn't need to. I knew right then that he'd bought a band. He'd said earlier that he didn't have money for a band, and asked if it would be okay if we waited... Turns out he had the band (a white gold band with diamonds) all along. Turdhead. The ceremony was so cool... I laughed as I walked down, and neither of us could wipe the huge grins from our faces... Not even when we teared up... (It was the first time I'd ever seen him tear up! AWWWW!!!) We exchanged vows, the coordinator took pictures with Hank's huge ass camera, and we kneeled to pray afterwards... So, now I'm Mrs. Meineke... WHOA! That's still weird. We've been calling each other "husband" and "wife" ever since. Oh, and he even carried my chubby ass over the threshold. He carried Allison too. (Well, he basically married both of us, I guess you could say!) LAUREN - Cute tummy pics! TRACY - I dunno... I haven't heard one way or the other about tanning... SARA - I'm hormonal anyway, so now I'm just SUPER hormonal... YIKES! TIGERLILY - YAY FOR A BOY!!! HEIDI - I have to admit, that I've had coffee occasionally... Just not too often... Maybe 4 - 5 times since finding out. See you girls later!

Hi all!
I went to my first real prenantal appointment today, and the doctor couldn't hear the heartbeat. I thought I was less than nine weeks, so it was too early but I hoped She sent us for an ultrasound to check my "dates" and we got to see the baby! Hearbeat, little arms, legs, etc, so amazing. The ultrasound tech said everything looked good. We even got three pictures! Anway I only weighed in about a pound and a half heavier than my first visit at 4 weeks, so I feel I am doing well. Of course I got Sonic on the way home, and am making homemade cinnamon rolls. Arggh. Talk to you all later. Lauren, are you around today?

Tiger - Congratulations on a Boy. Thats wonderful news.
Jennifer - Happy Marriage to you! Sounds like everthing happend just as it should. I'm really happy for you. Abby - How cool to see your kid! I'm glad you could see recognizable things in your ultrasound. In mine she is happily clicking and zooming away and I had no idea what I was looking at most of the time... Iam SOOOOO glad it is FRIDAY!!!!! ![]() |

Tracey...well I went for my official 20 week ultrasound on Wednesday where they check all the organs, measure everything, etc. But Friday I had my follow up appt at the doctor so he could review the ultrasound and give me my monthly checkup. When I showed him the pic he said, "Looks like BOY to me" but he has an ultrasound in his office so he said, "We'll just take another peek" The one in his office isn't a big fancy one or anything but it was good enough that we could see what we needed to see!

Hi ladies, I just found out I'm pregnant and I'm wondering how many carbs I should be eating a day. Also I want to know what would be an average weight gain in the first trimester. I'm about 2 weeks pregnant and I'm already up 2 pounds. I'm fine with it all but just wondering what would be the suggested amount of weight? Also I'm 40 years old and this is my first one.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Maybell-
Welcome and congratulations! Maitenance levels of carbs varries woman to woman but I've heard people say they have had increased to somewehere between 60 and 100 carbs a day. For those of us with morning sickness that goes out the window and we eat whatever seems appealing and is likely to stay down... They keep telling me I'll be able to do better in my second trimester. I think normal gain first trimester is somewhere around 5 pounds, but less is fine. My guess based on your start weight is that you will gain 25 - 35# total. This thread is a great resource - but we tend to be more chatty on weekdays. Hope to see you soon! |

Hi Maybell, congratulations. I noticed a LOT of fluctuation the first trimester, up a pound, down a pound, up two, down one, up one, down two, etc. Overall I ended up gaining 3 lbs at 13 weeks. I'm now 21 weeks and at 8.5 lbs gained, which I'm pretty happy with.
I recommend you raise carbs slowly to at least 50-60 to get out of ketosis. Some people say it's ok to be in ketosis during pregnancy, I'd rather err on the same side. Beyond that 50+ you can add if you feel necessary. I think between 50-100 is a good range and very manageable. Over 100 and I start gaining more rapidly. You might want to add things like more veggies, some fruits, yoghurt, a little whole milk, low carb breads/pastas/tortillas, etc. Tigerlily |
