TOM is here, but not really (women only)

TOM made the most briefest appearance of my life this week and I'm not certain it is normal, so to be safe I've already scheduled an appointment with my gyney. In fact, it's not normal, for the last 2 years, I've experienced shockingly heavy TOM. Without getting too graphic, this week was like a drop. Literally

I'd like a little reassurance (if there is some to be given) that this might be a normal sign of my new way of eating. Or should I be very worried?

I wouldn't be worried. A woman's period can be affected by just about anything........diet, stressors, age...and fluctuations are totally normal.........but it's a good idea to be checked by the doc just in case.

Good luck (but I'm sure you're fine)

Hey

My period (which, for the past few years has been a long monthly nightmare) has gotten much lighter since I started this WOE!

Thank goodness.

I WOULDNT BE TO WORRIED. BEFORE I STARTED ATKINS BY TOM WAS HORRID. SICK, PAINS AND ALL THE OTHER YUCKYS. I WAS ON INDUCTION FOR A WEEK AND A HALF WHEN MY TOM ARRIVED AND I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE THAT I WAS ON IT. TOTALLY CHANGED! I WAS NOT SICK NO PAINS. IT WAS GREAT!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My period has been a mess ever since I started Atkins.

Its either so heavy and long (21 days), or its just spotting. Last month I went for 5 days with only spotting. Month before it was very long and extremely heavy.

I went for a pap, and everything is fine!

Hang in there, the experts on this board say it will work itself out!

Hi, just want to add that i am doing unduction since the 1st of september. Tom arrived that same day. it was my first time on this WOE and since then, no sign of TOM... I thought this WOE could be the reason why i didn't receive his visit yet... But i am not pregnant (i hope!!!) and i had all the suger/salt cravings and pimples on my face, but that'S it. And i gained a few pounds in the last week or so, still doing the same thing, no cheat. I really hope he get here fast... But after reading this, i am almost sure it is "normal". I'll wait a few more days before i get all worried.

I would worry much about it unless you suspect something else is going on. Before Atkins I was heavy for 7 full days. Now its not as heavy and I am down to 4 day I love it!!!!!!!!1

I had my TOM 2x this month...but at least they were both very light. Only with the "real" one did I get all the other symptoms too...food cravings, water retention, etc. I'm hoping it'll work itself out soon.

This is a little off the tangent, but I have a TOM question too. I've been LCing for 2 1/2 weeks now, TOM started yesterday, and I feel incredibly bloated (I usually never feel this way). I've been drinking about a gallon of water everyday, can I cut down to half of that until I get rid of thsi retained water???

I also been having insomnia and am not hungry. I'm only getting like 3 hours of sleep each night. I'm not sure if the insomnia is a WOE thing or a TOM thing. Which do you think?

are you getting enough water in? I know that when you don't consume enough water, your body will hold on to it. The fact that your on your TOM will also be a contributor. Since this is your first TOM during this WOE, I'd consider how the next one is.

As far as the insomnia, honestly, I believe I was having sleeping problems as a result of consuming too many carbs. My sleep patterns have improved dramatically since I started this WOE. Are you still in induction?

Anyone else care to chime in?

I don't sleep as much anymore either. I think it is ketosis and all the extra energy. I sleep maybe 5 hours a night and jump right out of bed in the morning and I never did that before...

yes, carbaddict I'm still in induction. I thought a gallon of water a day was doing pretty good. I used to drink like 3 cups of water a day before doing WOE. This bloating is pretty bad, would anyone recommend Midol?

what a timely discussion for me. I've been on Atkins since mid February. In the beginning, my periods were much much lighter. In the last 2 months, they have become increasingly heavier and closer together. In late August a close family member was killed in combat 'over there' and since then, life here has been turned upside down, not to mention that my low carb lifestyle has been put to the test and low carb did not always win. I'm hoping that the combination of stress and not being as strict with my carbs has caused my periods to act strangley. I started September 3rd and bled for 7 days heavily, started again on the 17th for 3 days very lightly (I've never had this happen before) and started again on October 3 and I am still going. I'm not quite sure what to make of all this but really do hope it's the stress and the not so strict low carbing. I'm giving myself a kick in the rear to get back to strict induction tonight. If anyone else has had similiar experiences with their TOM being wacked out like mine, please let me know. I'm concerned but don't know if I should be.
Thanks...

Want2getfit2003: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Please know that there are many of us that do not take lightly this person's supreme sacrifice for our country and liberties.

As for your TOM, it seems like it is due to stress. I certainly hope that as time goes, your body will become accustomed to your new way of eating.

Another thing I've got to consider is my age. I've asked my mother if she experienced the same patterns at my age. Much as we may not like it, heredity plays a big factor I believe.

Cheers

I don't really know if this is a possibility...

But I normally have very heavy periods, and one month I had (like you said) literally a drop. Turns out I was pg.

Good Luck!
