Menstruation problems
Sorry to bring up a strange topic for my first post, but I'd like to know if anyone else has encounted similar problems. I started the Atkin's diet about 12 weeks ago and have lost about 22 pound, some of it rather quickly. The first period I had lasted a day and was so light. I now have them again and it seems to be following the same path. Can anyone tell me if this can happen? I drink lots of water and apart from the diet, I'm no different.
I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks Linda |

Your hormones go a little wonky the first couple of months when you make major changes to your diet
It should straighten out pretty quickly now. If you go 3 cycles, you should check with your GYN and make sure it's just diet change related![]() |

First 3 months..I had it all..first month..had 3 toms..second month..NONE! by month 4 it mellowed out. If longer then 3 months..I agree with Dottie..never hurts to ask your doctor. Also want to add..if you are losing fast..chances are your estrogen levels are high. This is because estrogen is stored in fat..and when you release it..you also release the estrogen. This is why libido( either more..or less) can also be effected on any weightloss program

RE:
I was wondering the same thing. Mine is now 6 days late, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm pregnant or if my system is just out of whack. I was 4 days late last month before I started Atkin's, and I thought that was unusual, but 6 days is really long for me. I've been crampy off and on for a week and really have no pregnancy symptoms, so I think it's just the nutritional changes affecting me.

The first month I sarted this WOE my period was HORRENDOUS! Before the flow started I was having the worse cramps of my life. I was literally rolling on the floor in pain. My husbands heavy duty pain pills did not help. He wanted to take me to the ER but I knew it was my period and it would eventually pass. It felt like I was in labor! Anyway, this lasted for a couple of hours, with no flow, and then......WHOOSH! It was like a damn broke and I flooded like crazy. We were on our way to my parents for Thanksgiving dinner and I was driving. The pain stopped immediately when it happended but I ruined my clothes. I had to take one of the baby's diapers and stuff it in my pants to catch the blood. It was a nightmare. If I hadn't already had my tubes tied, I would have thought I just had a miscarriage.
Anyway, this month was similar but not to the extreme. I was having extremely painful cramps but no flow and them I would flood and the cramps were gone only to start over. That lasted about two days and my period only lasted 4 instead of 5. I'm losing wt quickly this month as opposed to other normal period months when the wt was crawling off.

RE: late
I did go buy a pregnancy test this morning. And it was positive. So I guess I won't be low-carbing for a while now. I'm so excited even though I was hoping to lose a lot of weight before getting pregnant. I'm definitely not going to load up on so much high-carb junk though. I will add fruit, whole wheat bread, and probably cereal and milk and try to keep my carbs intake healthy.
