Birth Control Pills - Which one is best?

I have a friend who has to take birth control pills for bleeding. She had been doing Low Carb for 9 months, and when she started the pill, she started to gain weight and crave sweets. What is the best BC pill to take to complement Atkins or Curves Low Carb program? I know you guys know this. Thanks for your help.

I was on depo---that made me FAT!!! (That's the reason I'm on the WOE!) I switched to Aleese, which is a low-dose birth control pill and doesn't interfere with my weight loss. I think atkins recommends any low-dose type in his book.

I'm taking Yasmin which is a low dose BCP. It's working fine and I don't think it's hurting my weight loss.
My lack of exercise.....now THAT'S slowing my weight loss

I take Ortho Novum 7/7/7 and have for many years. It is a low dose tricyclical (sp?) pill, which means that it has different doses of the hormones for the three separate weeks you take it - more closely resembling how your body naturally works.

I know everyone is different, but I haven't found any adverse affects from them at all. Now chowing down on chips and ice cream did give me adverse side affects, but that's a different story!!

I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen for a long time and it was great.. I think in ways it actually helped me lose weight because it stabilized my hormones, and it also tremendously cleared up my skin.

I'm on Cilest now (which is apparently the UK equivalent of Ortho) and I still don't have any side effects, in fact, I mourn period weeks (like this week, ugh) when I'm off the pill because I can immediately feel the lack of hormones

but then, I've been on other BCPs before (Ortho Novum 777 and I forget what else) and I've never had any side effects, so I could just be lucky

I'm with Veracity on this one.
Have your friend to her doctor to determine which method of BC is right for her.
For the record, I take Lo-Estrin, which is supposed to have few side effects. I was gaining weight like crazy *before* I started it (thank you thyroid LOL) and I am now a slow loser, but I think its thyroid related and not pill-related.
Caveat with the Lo-Estrin. It is very low-dose, same dose for three weeks, and I take it religiously at the same time every day, never miss a pill, and I still sometimes ovulate.
The doctor said that this pill is very low dose and that can happen. I think he said something as well about the pill not working as well on women over a certain weight, but please don't quote me. I could have read that somewhere too.

Loestrin works best for me. I've been on it throughout my weight loss without any problems.

I've heard Yasmin is supposed to be best with weight loss. In fact, weight loss is common when starting it. My DD is on it already due to off the wall TOM (possibly PCOS rearing it's ugly head). If your friend is on it for bleeding issues, that may be what the problem is for her too.

None!

LOL! Well, that's my opinion anyway! I've had way to many problems with hormonal birth control so I've called it quits on all of them.

But some women can successfully lose while on the pill. My last 2 gynos told me that my "obesity" was too problematic to take hormonal bc...ha...so i can't give you any suggestions.

I was on the "Ring" for a couple of months and had no problems with weight gain or cravings. It did mess with my mood a bit though. The ring is great b/c you don't have to think about it very often.

I take Levlite with no problems but, as others have said, it's an individual thing. Good luck to your friends!

Othro Tri-Cyclen, Nordette (aka Levora) and Zovia have all worked well for me. I'm one of the lucky women who didn't gain weight when on the pill. No side effects whatsoever.

I have taken Aleese for two years with no problems with my weightloss. Its a very low dose, my dr. gave it to me because I expressed my concerns of weight gain.
You may want to talk to your doctor about which is best for you.
