women only (sorry guys)

I'm a newbe, so hello to all! I have a question for the ladies; have you found a difference in your monthly period on Atkins? I sure did, (the first month) and thought at the time that something was wrong with me. I did some reserch and found it is not all that uncommon. Any input on this would be great.

I just answered another post like this today.

My TOM was very heavy and long (talking 3 weeks one month) for the first three months of this WOE. I went to the gyn. She said that it is normal when losing weight and the hormone balances are strange (fat and estrogen are connected). I waited it out and now they are basically back to normal. Also, my doctor said with Yasmin I could skip the TOM week and just start the next pack, and I tried that for the first time two months ago, and I'm really liking avoiding the whole thing altogether.

Def check with your doctor if you are at all concerned.

Happened to me when I started this WOL so I researched it. Estrogen is stored in fat so when you start burning fat as fuel- the estrogen is released into your system and there is a surplus of estrogen. So, it makes sense that when your hormones are out of whack (i.e. estrogen levels increased) it affects your cycle. My first couple were painful, messy, heavy and thick. My last one was really normal. My NEXT one is coming soon and I am hoping that it will be normal as well.

Hang in there, it will stabilize and consider it a sign that you are burning fat! I will say, that if it continues to be bad over several months, you should see your doc.

Good low-carb thoughts to all!!

Hey I have a weird thing too.

I just started Atkins about a month ago and my breasts are very VERY sore. I am PMSing right about now, but I have never had breast soreness before when I would PMS.

I guess I am sorta freaking out because I know that it is also a sign of pregnancy and I DO NOT want to be pregnant. Has anyone else had worse PMS symptoms since starting Atkins?

What do you guys think:

A year ago I went to the gyn because I've had no periods for about a year. I had gained much of my weight at this time, ballooning up to 215 (I am 5'3). He said I most likey have polcystic ovary disease--my ultrasound was normal, all my blood tests (TSH etc) were normal. I had no extra hair growth. I did have some skin tags. I was kind of skeptical about the diagnosis but oh well. Prior to this I had no problems with my period whatsoever. (I am 35 yrs old)

Anyway I went on this WOE this June and have lost 28lbs so far. June I got my period--normal duration and flow. Skipped period in July, and August. This september I started spotting around the 2nd week, then got my period after 4 days, I still have it. For the past 2 weeks almost, ugh. Now heavy flow, just light, but there lol.

I hope my menses get regular again after a few more months.
