Pregnancy Question~~PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, I have a couple questions about Atkins and pregnancy. I am doing well with Atkins and have added things to eat since induction but am still keeping the carbs to 20-25g/day. If I were to get pregnant now how would I go to maintainance level?

Also, does ketosis mess with your monthly cycle or can it alter the results of a pregnancy test? I am one week late and have some symptoms, but a negative test. I am at the most ever 3 days late.

Please HELP!!!

Thank you ladies,
Kris

KRIS:

Yes, ketosis has been known to mess with womens cycles (it did mine) as well as rapid weight loss.
As far as getting pregnant and continuing Atkins, it is suggested that you jump right to the maintenance phase and keep your carbs between 60-75 (or even higher) a day. Basically by adding fruits, more veggies, more protein and some dairy (cottage cheese is good), you can continue to stay away from bread, pasta and potatos (although whole wheat bread is a good alternative). If you are pregnant I would focus on growing a healthy baby and put the weight loss on hold.
Feel free to join us on the Pregnancy Thread on the maintain lane.

Hope that helped.

I'd take another test in a few days. Sometimes if you are just little late the pregnancy test will show a negative when you are in fact pregnant.

I would eat at maintance levels of carbs. I do agree not to focus on weightloss but focus on health and eating maintance lowcarb is a good way to possibly avoid gestational diabetes and have a healthy baby.

Thanks for the replies. I do have a DD 2. When I got pregnant with her my first test was positive within one day of my missed TOM. This time however I am not sure what to expect since I am now doing Atkins. I think that if I do not start TOM by the end of the week I will try to get in and see my OBGYN.

LOWCARBINMAMA~ If you do not mind me asking, did Ketosis mess up your cycle really bad or was it just off a bit?

I am still wondering if being in Ketosis can give a false negative on a home pregnancy test? Does anyone know? I look forward to joining you ladies on the pregnancy thread. Thanks again for your help.

Hi!

I do know that ketosis should NOT give a false negative on a pregnancy test

But, as others have mentioned, you still could be pregnant and the test may just not show it yet. It depends on when you ovulated and how sensitive the test is

If you ovulated later in your cycle it may be too early to tell.

I have noticed something about being on low-carb and I have gotten pg twice while low-carbing. I notice my urine always seems diluted due to how much water we drink and how we don't retain too much water on this way of eating

You might want to try limiting your fluid intake today so the first morning urine is really concentrated tomorrow morning,

let us know how it goes!

When I first got into ketosis and was really losing weight, I didn't have a period for almost 3 months. It was SO annoying, my cycle was really screwed up.

I agree, I don't think that ketosis has anything to do with a false pregnancy test. Maybe you could go to the Dr. for a blood preg. test?

Thanks for the info! I started my TOM today, so I was 8 days late, which I guess is not that abnormal for this stage of weight loss. DH and I will just have to try again.
