Pregnancy Thread 9/8 thru 9/14

Did everyone have a nice weekend?

We ended up buying the crib on Friday, and Mike put it together yesterday. How will I ever wait to get the bedding?

LAURA: Sears gave me the run-a-round and after waiting for them to call 3 other stores we ended up not being able to get the Justin II crib. I really like the one we ended up getting. Shoot, I forget what it's called, I'm gonna go look up the name on the website. BRB.

Morning Stacey! Sorry you didn't get the crib you wanted but I really like the one you picked out. It is very similar to mine. I like that it turns into a day bed and then a regular bed.

The last three nights I have dreamt that I caught my husband cheating. Last nights dream was the worst. He fell in love with someone else and was moving in with her. These hormones are really starting to make me a little wacky!

Does anyone watch Sex in the City? I was so disappointed that Big went back to his old self after that night they spent together in bed. I really want them to end up together!

So, I started my third trimester! I am now officially in my 28th week (i think i am counting right!)!! Just this week I have really noticed a lot of discomfort and I am finally not able to move around as easily as before. I guess its time to slow down a bit. We are setting up our home computer so that I can start working from home a few days a week to lessen my commuting time in the car. I am so afraid I'll go into labor during rush hour traffic.

I have a question for those of you with kids already....

WARNING: this question contains matter of a very personal
nature!

I was reading a book called "How to survive the first year of motherhood" and it references, ahem, pooping yourself on the delivery table. Ok, I had NO idea this could happen and now I am deathly afraid of that happening too! Honestly, did this happen to any of you? Is it as awful as it sounds?

Ack Poop!

sjoy, I've heard of this, too. I think it's why some hospitals ask you if want an enema and used to discourage you from too much eating / drinking during labor (even though you really need to keep your strength up.

Frankly, this terrifies me more than the "pain" of childbirth... it's just too humiliating.

Can anybody make us feel better about this? More information? anything? Help!

OMG Summer that is my biggest fear; pooping on the table. That happened to my mom and to a few of my friends. Everyone says that we won't even notice, with all the pressure going on down there the Dr. just wipes it up and keeps on delivering. But still, how humiliating. Ugh.
Are you reading the Girlfriends Guide to the First Year?

I watch Sex And The City but I missed last nights episode, we taped it so I'll watch it tonight. That show cracks me up, Mike loves it too.

Yeah girls...I am glad I am not the only one that is totally afraid of pooping myself!

Stacey: it is the Girlfriends Guide. I love her books!

In regards to pooping while delivering... I didn't... Of course, I was induced, so I had to stop eating at midnight the night before (no wonder I was so exausted having her at 7:45pm! I was hungry dammit! ), and I did my own enema right before we left. I was scared of that too. It didn't though. (Although pushing a baby out sorta feels like you are... I know... TMI!)

Oh, and we've agreed on names... Thank goodness...

They're pretty old and unconventional names (well one is), but I like them.

Penelope Vista
Vista was my grandma's middle name. This woman was, bar none, my favorite person as a child, and I still miss her. She passed away this past January, and I still miss her bunches.

Ezra David
Ezra has been one of my favorite names, since I was little. (It might even have something to do with the fact that I had a crush on this adorable guy in 5th grade, and his name was Ezra, but...) Also, David is Hank's dad's name. Hank worships his dad, so it's fitting.

STACY- Guess what? We ended up picking the exact same one!!! We could barely get someone to wait on us at Sears but they did confim that Justin II was discountinued and they had the floor model but it was ragged out bad! My husband was looking at the Delta one and we decided we liked that one --actually, we like the dresser better on that set anyway so it worked out good. Since it was on sale and we were worried it would be discontinued too, we went ahead and bought it We haven't picked it up yet though bc we weren't driving my husbands truck to haul it in....can't wait to pick it up though I know it is kind of early and we weren't planning on buying anything for a couple more weeks-----but oh well
I think we'll end up with the Moon and Stars bedding from PBK.

We had our 2nd DR visit today. Had another ultrasound and he/she was moving all around, flipping and waving. It was just SOO cute!!! We could see the heartbeat and it was really strong--he said we can hear it at our next appointment....we also have the Triple Screen next time too. That makes me nervous.

I have heard about the pooping thing too....my friends say it happens but it is no big deal with everything else going on. They remind me that nothing embarasses you much anymore when you are to the point of labor But like you, I am worried!

I love Sex and the City too. I don't want it to end!

Have a good day!

JENN: I really like your names. I forget, are you guys planning on finding out the sex, or will it be a surprise?

SUMMER: I love the Girlfriend books too, they crack me up! This weekend I finished reading "Diary of a Mad Mom to be" it was pretty funny too.

LAURA: How funny that you ended up getting the same crib. Mike ended up putting it together yesterday, I really like it. We went ahead and bought the matress too, they were all 20% off, so we bought the Sealy Extra Firm.
I really like the dresser/changing table combo, is that the one you like too? We need to wait a couple months before we buy that, I think it was around $400!!
Great news about your Dr. visit, and how cool that you got to see your little bean wiggling all around.

Stacy--Yep, we got the dresser/changer and the 5 drawer chest that matches....the dresser was on sale for $369. Believe me-that put a hurting on our baby fund for a couple months!!

Stacy - I haven't checked out the Girlfriends' Guides yet... Any of them... I know that when I was pregnant with Allison, "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" was a complete godsend! It was just awesome for me being a young first time mom to be.

I love your bed too... Gosh, we don't have anything planned yet... I guess I should wait to find out the sex, and then we'll go from there (yep, we want to find out).

Summer - Congrats on getting to work from home... That'll take a load off...

BTW - Thanks for the compliments on the names. I know I'm only 9 weeks along, but I was so worried that we'd never agree on a girl's name. (He, at one point, suggested Velouria... After a Pixies song... He thought it would be cool since my daughter is Allison, and they also have a song titled, well... "Allison"... I nixed that one pretty quickly... Just like he nixed Lola and Sailor... turdhead. )

Sarah - I'm still keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!!!

Question: Do any of you know which bottles you are using (if any)? I plan to breastfeed, but I know that I'll also use a pump and let Hank feed the baby by bottle sometimes. (Plus, I'm not sure how long I'll breastfeed.)

I used the Playtex nursers last time, and I liked them. I've heard a lot of great things about the Avent nursers, but now they have a new brand of Playtex nursers... ANYWAY... I'm still leaning towards one form of the Playtex brand (maybe just because of familiarity and ease), but I'm just wondering what you girls are doing?

Jefinner: I am also going to nurse but plan on introducing a bottle around 7 weeks old. I am going to use the Avent nurser only because that is what my SIL uses and she loves them.

Hello everyone.

All this talk about cribs makes me think I should start to consider some of these things. I have not even given any thought to furniture yet. I still have a few months, but I should start thinking about these things.

As far as the whole poop during birth thing, I too have been worried about this. I read all this literature and done research on all the aspects of birth and it sounds like there is no real answer here. I read that if you opt for an enema it can cause your labor to be more painful. If you opt to fast that can cause nausea and obviously hunger and weakness. If you do neither you will most likely have a poop during delivery because of all the pressure. None of these options sound so great to me!

Though I talked to a few girlfriends and all of them say that it happened and they did not even know, but that their husbands pointed it out to them later. They said its not worth worry because you can not control it and stressing over it will just make you more uncomfortable.

So anyhow...I am with you all on that one...yet another unpleasant issue to have to deal with.

I spoke to a friend about the poop issue and she told me she just went to the bathroom towards the end of labor and was fine when delivering. My midwife explained during a prenatal course that the baby's head literally squashes your bowels when it delivers so it's natural that it would take along anything left in there. I'm not too worried about it. They're prepared for all those body fluids and have plastic sheeting under you to catch everything and clean it.

I never answered the question about names! We've had a very difficult time agreeing on this, and it's one of the reasons we wanted to know the sex. We're having a girl, and her name will probably be Rebecca. We haven't decided on a middle name, but we'll be adding my family name in her middle names, which I think is kind of cool. Brian would still like to come up with something more out of the ordinary than Rebecca, but it was one of our initial picks and we keep coming back to it.

Just had a midwife appointment this morning and after feeling my belly, she guessed that she'll probably be a fairly large baby, like around 9 lbs if born at 40 weeks. The good news is that her head is down, BUT she's facing up, which could mean back labor if she doesn't flip over. Yikes. Apparently crouching on all fours could get her to turn around... Guess I'll be hand-scrubbing my floors for the end of my pregnancy!

Hi all!

Stacy - I love the crib! I wouldn't be able to wait on the bedding either. We're re-using the one I had for my daughter because it can kinda go both ways. I got it as a shower gift but registered for it as soon as I was able too.

Summer - ROTFLMAO! I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh but I had the same fear as you. Yes, the hospital should offer you an enema. I decided against it and still managed NOT to poop on the table. I really felt like I had too though so I thank God that he saved me from that humiliation. I was totally disappointed in Big too. I SOOOO want them to end up together!! That's great that you'll be able to work from home a little. Sorry about the discomfort. I'm already feeling some myself.

Jenn - Those are very cool names, I really like them. DH wants an old fashioned name for our boy too but we'll see. There's not a lot of trendy names that go with Martinez!

Laura - Yeah on the U/S! I get another one on Wednesday, I can't wait!!

Sarah - Thinking of you.

Jenn - I used the Avent bottles when Kayla was little. They offer different nipple styles so that was a plus. But as she grew I just used the kind that are bent so less air gets trapped. I breast fed too but she self-weaned at 4 months because my supply was running low due to working and not having a very good pump.

Sylv - Rebecca is a beautiful name! Gosh, 9 lbs ... yikes! Hopefully she turns for you.

I'm 18 weeks now and felt the baby move on the outside for the first time today. Very soft but I still felt it. Now I gotta see if DH can feel it too. I listened to the baby yesterday with the doppler and Kayla tried to put it on her tummy too ... so cute. Then she kept doing it to me. Kids are so funny.

I have my diagnostic U/S on Wednesday. I wish I could see my doctor too because my left breast is considerably larger than my right and it hurts something fierce. I'm a bit worried. I see him on the 25th though so I guess I can wait.

Nothing else going on here right now. BBL ... Ciao!

Heidi,

I bet that was exciting feeling the baby move for the first time. I cant wait for that to happen.

My left boob has always been larger than my right boob. LOL But if you are worried definitely get your doc to look at it.

I was wondering..have any of you who are further along got furniture?

I am thinking of going w/ one of those expensive cribs that converts into a toddler and even adult sized beds...what do you all think?

POPPY: We always start a new thread at the beginning of the week. I just read your post from last week, how did your Dr. appt. go?
Sorry that you thought you disappointed us, it wasn't that at all. *hugs*

HEIDI: How exciting, I can't wait to feel my little one move. It's got to be one of the best feelings ever.

SARAH: Did you get the tests yet?

JENN: I was just looking at bottles yesterday, I like the old Playtex bottles but I might try the new ones they have and maybe even the Advent bottles. Is it good to buy a few different kinds and just let baby decide which they like best? Or should I just stick with one kind? Although I'm planning of breasfeeding to start with.

SYLV: I love the name Rebecca, good choice.

SINNRAH: We got the convertible bed from Sears (same one Looper got) and it wasn't terribly expensive, $279 and very good quality.

What do you guys think about drinking the pre-made Atkins shakes while pregnant? Do you think they're okay or would I be best to stay away from the processed stuff? They just really keep me full, it'd be nice to have for a morning snack.

Poppy - I'm so sorry you thought that... I noticed yesterday that the two threads overlapped... It was nothing to do with you! (((HUGS))) I hope everything's okay!

Stacy - I loved the Playtex with Allison, and experimented with different nipples (they have three or four different types). That was the thing I liked about them... The versatility... Yet the Avent bottles seem to be getting some great reviews too. We shall see.

SINN!!! How'd the appointment go!!! Inquiring minds want t
