FIrst of all...congrats! I know you are looking forward to your new little one.
From everything I have read, low carb eating is not conducive to breastfeeding. When in ketosis, those ketones can be passed on thru the breast milk and that is harmful for the baby. That being said, I am sure you could at least begin by cutting out "bad carbs", sugar, white flours, etc. But still keep your intake of good carbs high enough to keep you out of ketosis. That and breastfeeding will probably help you to shed pounds, BF is a natural slimmer! |

I believe the 'official' line to do do Maintence while you're BF'ing. Mainly because of the ketones that the baby can't handle, and also because you shouldn't really TRY to lose weight while you are BF'ing - of course, if you are very overweight that's a moot point.
Also - BF'ing alone (esp. if you don't supplement) burns A LOT of calories - you are making your childs FOOD. And considering how fast babies grow, they are getting plenty of calories! |

There is a pregnancy thread, and a "Bouncing Back after Baby" thread on the Maintain Lane. Plus, there's a "Nummies Challenge and Support thread for Nursing Moms" on the Challenges Board. These are great places to find out what other LC'ing moms are doing. You will find some moms following induction levels, and other moms who are at maintenance levels. This is a decision that only you alone can make, b/c there is no "set" right or wrong answer!
