Just when you least expect it...
Thanks everyone! I am very happy! Just last month I said to my DH, "geesh, I didn't think it would be this hard... This just isn't fun anymore"
So last month... nothing. (well maybe once ) and all of a sudden Wham! I'm BLESSED! This morning I thought... "that came out of nowhere" So JADEDONE, don't give up, cause it's like everyone kept telling me, (and I'm sure you've heard it too...) "... Just when you least expect it." |

That is AWESOME news! LC has a way of inducing PG, that's for sure! I was inertile before I went LC. I followed a complex carbs only diabetic PG diet while I carried my kids and I had all of the weight plus some off in under a month. I was a gestational diabetic but I followed the diet before I was diagnosed at 20 something weeks the first time and almost right away the second time.
I ate 15 carbs for breakfast and 3 snacks and 60 carbs for lunch and dinner. |

Good info, thanks, but was that 15 carbs for breakfast INCLUDING three snacks, or 15 carbs for breakfast, then snacks w/ carbs also? Then 60 for lunch and another 60 for dinner, or just 60 for the two combined?
sorry so ![]() |

Oh, sorry I was unclear. That was 15 at breakfast plus 3 snacks at 15 carbs each. Then, I had 60 carbs for lunch and 60 more for dinner. So I guess that's a total of 180 carbs all day long. It felt so easy after eating LC!

WOW! That sounds like a LOT!
That sounds like a LOT of carbs! Is it because we can't have any artificial sweeteners while PG? Did you eat bread? *blushing* Sorry to pick your brain, I should probably just GET A BOOK! *laughing* Should I eek up to that much or just say to heck with it and make the jump?

It is a lot when you're used to LC, lol! I ate fruit, beans, whole wheat bread, milk, veggies and whole wheat pasta for my carbs. Oh, yeah, and popcorn which I love! I stayed away from high glycemic index foods like white bread and chips. A lot of people follow Suzanne Somer's plan when PG.
I just went on the diabetic diet right away. I am very insulin resistant, I have PCOS and have a ton of diabetes in my family. So I knew I would probably be gestational. I was grateful for the extra carbs because sometimes the morning sickness was soooo bad, I had to find soemthing palateable to eat. |

BTW, I forgot to mention that Splenda is safe when you're pregnant. It doesn't pass through the placenta.

That's great! Most scientists would urge you to stay out of ketosis because there are no studies showing it's safe for the fetus. You don't have to jump all the way up to 180 grams of carbs a day, and you don't have to eat sugar or refined grains. Just make sure you're getting plenty of veggies (as many servings as you can--don't limit nonstarchy veggies), protein, dairy, and fats, especially omega 3 essential fatty acids, which are critical for fetal brain development.
Eat nuts, especially walnuts, which are crammed with healthy fats needed for infant development! Avocados and leafy greens are great too for fetal brain health. Oily fish are also good sources of omega 3 fats, but there's so much pollution in fish, most scientists recommend limiting fish consumption while pregnant (no tuna steaks, swordfish steaks, or other big fish such as walleye or lake trout. One can of tuna fish a week may be safe, and salmon is probably also safe, but no more than 12 ozs a week.) Grains are fine if you like them, but there's no need to start eating refined sugar and flours. Atkins for Life, or Atkins Maintanence, are good for pregnancy. The Atkins website has some good articles on pregnancy and breastfeeding. The critical thing to remember is: get lots of nutrients in the foods you eat, and don't try to diet while you're pregnant (but also don't let yourself gain more than your doctor says is ok). Avoid known toxins, such as cigarette smoke, alcohol, transfats, charred meat, pesticides, insecticides (ie, don't use DEET containing bug spray--studies in Missouri have shown that the children of women who used insecticides during pregnancy have 800% higher incidence of brain tumors--which are still extremely rare, but who wants to take the chance? It's safer to wear long sleeves and stay in at dusk when mosquitoes are out). Don't microwave food in plastic while you're pregnant, and wear rubber gloves when using household chemicals--or better yet, get someone else to do the cleaning (all these things contain chemicals which can disrupt the developing fetus's endocrine system, ie her hormones.) Congratulations again.! |
